MBP Retina wont go to sleep, help!

My new MBP Retina 2.6 wont go to sleep, and when it does it takes a while before it wakes up again. Closing the lid also sometimes cause it to crash. Installed programs: gfxCardstatus, Vlc and Chome.
Im reading about similar problems, and it doesn´t seem to be related to chrome, at least not for them. They also say something about xcode, whatever that is. Help!

  • MBP Retina wont boot from USB HD

    Hi every1,
I used my old macbook(2009, 10.7) created a couple of bootalble images on my USB 2.0 external hard drive, they all 10.7. one of them was installed on one partition, all the other were cloned by CCC on other separate partitions. they all can be booted from my macbook. then i got the new Retina, tried to boot them from it, i got a crossed circle instead, none of them is booting, but they still bootable on my macbook. any1 knows the reason? much appreciated!

    thx Clinton.
the problem is that all the images(10.7.4) in my HD are for reimaging some old macbooks and iMacs at work.
the Retina was work issued, so was my macbook. i had to give away my macbook, since i got the Retina. The Retina is the only Mac i got at work at the moment.
what i want to do is modify some of the images(10.7.4) in my USB HD from the Retina, then to reimage those old macbooks and iMacs. hence i do not have to go to Mac rooms or borrow one of the Macbooks from where they belong.
P.S. i already free updated my Retina to mountain lion via app store.

  • MBP Retina wont detect headphones

    Hey guys,
I just recently got my laptop back from repairs after being water damaged.
Everything seems to function fine except my headphone output won't detect when I plug in a 1/4" jack.
Tried alt/opt clicking the sound icon as well as going to the sys. prefs. with no luck.
As far as I can remember it works fine in bootcamp Win 7, but nothing happens in mac os.
Will post if I am remembering wrong as I use external sound cards most of the time.
Just blows to not be able to use headphones elsewhere when on the road.
I suppose this would be software related, but I have no idea how to solve it.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Jamie

Apple has 90 days warranty on all repairs.  Take the computer back to the repair shop along with the headphones.

  • MBP Retina Wi-Fi disconnect during sleep

My late 2013 MBP Retina 15-inch (Software  OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)) loses Wi-Fi when it goes to sleep, about 80% of the time.  I can quickly reconnect by choosing "Turn Wi-Fi off" from the menu bar, and then turning it on again, but it's still a pain.  My iMac does not drop Wi-Fi, so I don't think it's the Airport router.  Any suggestions?

  • How long is your shutdowntime from MBP Retina 13" ML? (and more)-Please help!

    Hello everyone,
I have been searching in this Support Community for a while, but I cannot really find a solution/answer to my issue(s):
Note: If you do not feel like reading my whole story, PLEASE only post your shutdown time from your MacBook Pro Retina 13", 2.5GHz, 8GB with Mountain Lion.
I have bought a new MBP Retina 13", 8GB, 128GB (basic model) at the 23rd of DEC 2012 and I have not got the chance to really use it because it keeps getting problems (trackpad was not working well, battery health never 100%, shutdown time of 23secs and more - will tell). Called Apple Care within 5 days: Told me this all is not the way it should be, advised me to go to the Apple Store to let it check (traveling time for me is about 2 hours).
Went to the Apple Store in Amsterdam (I live in the NL) with these issues (bought this MB at a reseller abroad though - cannot go back): Genius told me some hardware should be replaced because this is not a software problem (tested). I mentioned the DOA Policy, because I did not even got the chance to use my new precious rMBP and I mentioned this problem within the 14 days. He told me I could NOT get a new rMBP from them, because I did not bought it straight from Apple (Apple Store online/offline). Okay fair enough, I let it repaired: new SSD 128GB including top case, new trackpad, new battery. Found it a little bit doubtful to replace this kind of hardware from a 2-week old rMBP.. Picked it up 7 days later.
Tested it somewhere in a quiet place nearby the Apple Store. Trackpad was working as it should be, battery health was 100%, shutdown time was still 23 seconds.. Rebooted that thing, waited for 5min (staring at it) and shut it down again; 23 seconds. Started it up, opened only Safari and iPhoto, shut it down right afterwards, 23 seconds.
Went straight back to the Apple Store. Told a Genius at the Bar what was going on. He tested it, told me this is NOT normal. Took it to the technician room, they tested it for like 15min, came back with the technician man, told me that this was NOT normal, BUT they could not find what causes this and told me they have never seen/heard this issue before. Got the 'manager' to talk to me (his nametag did not tell he was the manager though) and suddenly it was a 'non-issue' and told me to go home..?!
I told him the whole story - again, mentioned that I had also shut down some MBP Retina's 8GB in different Apple Resellers and this particular Apple Store, and ALL shut down within like 3-5sec. He said I could not compare these models with my rMBP because those probably (probably) are all demo models. Okay, so what is he telling me, that I got fooled by Apple; their show models are working better than the one I bought?
Anyway, got over this, I thought if everything is working well then I just leave it this way. Then two days later the battery health drops to 98% with 2 load cycles, and System Information and Coconut Battery gave a different battery charge than the one in the right upper corner of my screen (5% higher on the screen).
Also, my storage gets fuller and fuller by the day, while my rMBP is still empty from files. The only thing I did was installing iWork '09, MS Office 2011 and Coconut Battery. And the only thing I did those days was surfing around to find answers for my issues (instead of studying). So only Safari has been used. My storage space left at this moment is 88GB from my 128GB, so what is happening? I checked a lot about this at this Community, tried a lot, nothing works.
And third, my shutdown time is still 23 seconds, while a friend of mine owns a new MacBook Air 13", 4GB SSD, Mountain Lion and his shutdown time is like 4 seconds. All my Macs with Mountain Lion shut down within like right away, 4 seconds. And they do not even have SSD and 8GB. So how can this be 'not an issue' (manager did not used the word NORMAL) with my NEW rMBP?
I am familiar with working with Apple Products since a very long time, I have been using iMacs and other MacBooks for the last 6 years and I have never (ever) had this much trouble with an Apple product. I am highly disappointed and I think I have the right for a new rMBP - since replacing 3 major hardware parts, speaking with Apple Care for 6 times and going to an Apple Store twice, within ONE MONTH is not solving all these problems. I think a MacBook worth €1800 (in the NL) should not be like this!
Thank you for reading this whole story. I thought I should tell you everything in detail so you have all the information you might need to help me out with maybe one of these problems.
I thank you very much in advance!

Well to update my own thread just for the people who are reading or for the people who are also searching for an answer:
I was sick of it that Apple Care told me to go to the Apple Store and Apple Store told me to call Apple Care.. So I decided to tell my story to.. Tim Cook. I know.. but I did email him, and I know.. he won't be reading those emails himself. Anyway, wasn't expecting to hear anything from Apple HQ any time soon, but it already gave me a better feeling to email this.
The very next day I got a call from the Apple Store right away: I was getting a new rMBP! And I am typing on it right now. Everything works perfectly fine and the shutdown time is sometimes 3-4 seconds and sometimes it takes a little bit longer, like about 20 seconds.
But the shutdown time wasn't the only issue that I emailed for - I know this thread was about the shutdown time so I am coming back on that.
The conclusion I can make based on my experiences with Mountain Lion on different Macs in this house (and my two Retina's I worked on) is the same as what already is mentioned before; it has to do with Mountain Lion.
BUT, in MY case and the reason why I opened this thread, it was NOT Mountain Lion. It was my rMBP for sure.

  • MBP w/Retina Display Problem After Sleep

I have bought a MBP Retina Display 15" in July 2012 and until recently I did not have any problems with my Mac. However, I am having the same problem as the one in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt0tS8KJKuQ
There seems to be no problem if I don't leave my mac on sleep for so long but what is the sleep function and power nap for in the first place. Is there any solution to this.
    Thx

Hardware does fail occasionally, but part of why I would take mine to an Apple Store would be for an opinion on whether the problem was hareware or software. Since it has been less than a year since your bought your MBP-R, it is still under warranty, just not eligible for free phone assistance. If you have neither an Apple Store nor a trusted repair facility available to you, that will make it tougher.
Do I understand you to say this only happens after it has been asleep for a longish time? You can keep it from happening by waking it up sooner or by shutting down when you expect to be away for a longer time? I'm not sure what that tells us, but it in interesting.
Do you by any chance have a bootable copy of your system on an external disk? Preferrably one that was made before you started experiencing the symptoms. If so, does the MBP-R present the same symptoms when booted from that copy?

  • Freeze after waking from sleep mode on MBP retina

After waking from sleep mode my MBP retina freezes for 3-5 seconds. Mouse and touchpad don't work. I wonder if it's mountain lion problem or hardware problem. Anyone faced this?

Just got a brand new model and OS X 10.8.2 (12C3012) and face the same issue, almost everytime it sleeps for too long. This is not a 3rd type SDD, this is a standard Apple SSD. I turned off the BT, I removed the almost every option from the battery saver mode. The current test is to disable the power nap - I will let you all know the result in a few hours.

Help!! I'm using a Mid 2012 MBP retina 2.3Ghz i7 with 8GB of ram 256SSD. for the past 2 years my write speeds has been consistently on 400MB/s and up via black magic test. but now it only have 100MB/s going down to 80MB/s. what should I do???? I have already cleaned and even restored my MBP still it's on 100MB/s. please help. I have to finish tasks on a timely manner.

No. This requires completely repartitioning the SSD. You can do that only by using the Network Recovery method or the method I outlined. My method preserves all your data and doesn't require doing a slow Network Recovery. But if you wish to do that instead. The purpose of the whole exercise is to "clean" the SSD of garbage collected during use that tends to cause the SSD to slow down as you've described.
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button. Set Zero Data - one-pass, click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Sleep leads to shutdown - MBP Retina

Lately, Sleep has led to my MBP Retina shutting down. Happens when lid is close or when Sleep is selected.
Tried some variations on type of hibernation without success. Tried Safe Boot, tried turning off wake for network access, tried letting hard drives sleep.
    Suggestions? Thx.
    MBP Retina Mid-2012 (MacBookPro10,1)
    OS 10.8.2

If it was doing it some time after going to sleep, I would suspect a power issue, probably battery.
Since you say even selecting "Sleep" shuts it down and you have to do a full boot, then something is preventing it from going to sleep. Have you modified settings? Any terminal commands that might have changed the behavior of sleep? Any power management programs you installed (Caffein, etc.)?

Then i press it for few seconds then it shutdown. I try to turn on again same result...plz anyone have solution for this ...help me

    See Ogelthorpe's link:
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • MBP C2D WONT SLEEP AUTOMATICALLY!

my 15 mbp c2d will go to sleep when I close the lid, and will sleep if i command it to, but it will not sleep when it is scheduled to after my desired time. the screen goes black but the indicator light is solid, it isnt "breathing" like it is supposed to, and the screen just turns back on by touching the mouse pad..
    Any suggestions?

actually, I think I figured it out..
I had the desktop pic changing every minute, which kept it awake... strange... I wonder if apple is going to fix this in the future.

  • My late 2013 MBP Retina battery gets only about 4 hrs. What might be wrong?

My late 2013 MBP Retina battery gets only about 4 hrs. What might be wrong?

    I found a solution!
Perhaps this is just temporary, but I have my display up and working again.
Although the symptoms are different were a bit different, the solution here worked:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/120259/grey-screen-after-login-blue-scr een-of-death-from-cmdr
As I was able to connect to my HD via an external monitor, in the finder, I went to:
    1. Macintosh HD --> System --> Library --> Extensions
    2. From there I moved all of the files that started with ADM and ATI (19 in total for me) to a folder on my desktop. (You will need to enter your admin password for this)
    3. Next was a restart.
    4. Then my display started working again.
    5. After that, I transferred the files back into my Extensions folder.
    6. I then did another restart with my fingers crossed and breath held. It worked.
Also... During the last few days of trying to find a fix, I restored a Mavericks backup to my computer away from Yosemite.
I'm very sure this problem occurred when I put my MBP to sleep, disconnected the power in its sleep, while something was connected to a USB port and unplugging the USB device (for me an iPhone charger) while the MBP was closed.
I hope this helps the next person.

  • How to record MBP Retina with External Capture Card?

I want to record games on my Mac, such as Minecraft and Amnesia, with my Avermedia Live Gamer Portable (in order to reduce the lag I get with using Quicktime), but whenever I try to it will not let me record. I have been told that this is because there is HDCP on the HDMI port on the MBP Retina. So I was wondering if anyone knows how to get around this?
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi there,
If I'm not mistaken, I think you need to have the power cable in for clamshell mode to work.
If you make sure the power is in you should be able to wake the MBP up from sleep mode with it shut and plugged into another display.
