MBP runs smoother while charging?

When my computer is plugged into it's power source, everything runs smoothly, but when it's not charging some things seem sluggish. For example when I plug in my laptop and click "Applications" on the dock it opens very smooth and quickly, and sluggish/laggish while unplugged. Could this be a battery problem?

• Firefox does not run smooth while loading websites.

Firefox does not work smoothly when it is loading any webpage. Specially, when I open new tabs and load new websites while it is still loading last website in other tab, the situation becomes worse. Main problems that occur are - page will not scroll, or scrolling hangs for a sec or so, works a little bit and it happens repeatedly, new tabs will open but not smoothly, website loading also gets affected in similar way. The dot that revolves on tabs while loading any webpage gets really annoying. It revolves intermittently. Imagine a car engine not starting, it starts, stops, starts, stops. That's what happens with Firefox. But once all webpages are completely loaded and scrolled 2 or 3 times from top to bottom of the page, then it is all good. All the problems occur when page is still loading in fore- or background in any or all of the tabs. I tried to run Firefox with all add-on and plugins disabled, tried to refresh Firefox from troubleshoot information. But nothing helps. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. I guess my laptop is not having memory issues. I am using Windows 7 x64 based system. RAM is 4 GB. All other software work well. Most importantly, Chrome has no such issues in comparison to Firefox. Also, when IDM (internet download manager) takes over some downloads, the Firefox hangs for few seconds. Please help.
Thank you.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance

• Running smoothly?

just got my new macbook pro
are there any tips to keep my computer running smoothly? on windows i had to defragment the hard drive? should i be concerned about storing large amounts of data on my drive space?
thanks

are there any tips to keep my computer running smoothly?
Well, I consider myself to be a fairly knowledgeable user (perhaps knowing a little more than the average person) and I'll tell you exactly what I do to keep my MBP running smoothly...
Nothing at all!
Honestly, I used to Repair Permissions and all that jazz fairly routinely on my older iMac (in say, 2003) but I don't think that stuff is at all necessary anymore. The truth is that I've had this MBP for 7 months now and I have not repaired permissions a single time or run any other maintenance software, for that matter. And, it still runs exactly the same as it did on the first day I got it.
The trick, I think, is to just use the machine. OS X is smart enough to do what it needs to do to keep things operating smoothly by itself. It automatically defragments files on the fly (as you use them) and does its own maintenance during the night (or when you turn it on if you don't leave it running).
I would say you should just use the machine. Charge it when it needs to be charged, close it when you aren't using it, and open it when you want to use it. No need to shut it down at all unless you need to conserve battery power over a longer period of time. Just open, use, and close. You can start forgetting all those worrisome things from Windows now!
And, no, you shouldn't worry about storing data on the drive... it was made to store large amounts of data! Go for it, but as Luke says, leave 20% or so free. OS X needs that space to keep things running smoothly.
Keep asking questions if you have any!

• Fanx running at max while charging

Hey everyone.
I have a mbp 15.4" 2.4ghz.
My fans reached 6000rpm yesterday while charging. This is the second time its done it. I think i onlhy had 5% battery before i charged.
is this normal?

My fans will rev quite high also when I start recharging, but they settle down after a few minutes. If yours keep running high through the whole charging cycle, there may be a problem.
Try resetting your SMC.

• I can feel the earth on the body of the mbp while charging, is it safe ?

i feel a kind of low electric charge on the body of the mbp, while its connected to the charger, and mostly all time its connected.
i googled and found the reason that, its because the pin of the charger is 2 pin and it doesnt have the earth pin in it . tht current isnt dangerous i think , as it feels good to rub on the surface.
But my question is , is it safe for the mbp. ?
i am afraid , tht it may affect the internal parts, something like that.
Pls advice me.

I feel the same in my iphone4. While charging through electricity i can feel the charge in the headphone slot.
For ex- when i am charging my phone and talking at the same time my ear is in contact with the headphone slot which is on the upper part of the iphone. And i can feel the charge in my ear. Charge is low.
Plz lemme knw if its fine or do i need to visit the service center.

• MBP 15" Retina MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is extremely hot while charging? Help

MBP 15" Retina MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is extremely hot while charging? Help

Both the system and the charger are still under warranty. If you feel you have a defective part you should take both into apple to be checked out and replaced if found defective.
I also sugest you buy the applecare extended warranty before your standard one year warranty expires, you can only buy it during the original one year warranty. Once that has expired you can no longer buy it.
To fix any mac computer once out of warranty is expensive and even more so for the retina models.

• While Charging get screen of death. SHUT DOWN BY HOLDING Key

Hi This is my first time posting a question regarding my MBP a couple of time's now I've left my computer on and the charger plugged in I've left it there and instead of stopping charging when it's full I think it's not sometimes I come back and the screen says warning shut down computer by holding down power button for 6 seconds. I unplug the charger it's super hot and the mac is past boiling point. I mean it runs hot sometime but when the problem has happened it's really hot. Also I never hear fans
1)Has this happend to anyone?
2)I did a hardware test and got an error 4SNS/1/40000000: 'TmOP'
Thank you.

Well, I had my MBP sent out for repair they changed the logic board and the thermal unit also the keyboard. And it also came back with some scratches and also on the left side at the seam where your arm/wrist rest is loose so it squeeks..plus is was dirty.
Called Apple Care got someone who said they couldn't replace it because it was past 14 days, so I didn't like that answer and then they gave me to a product specialist. He said the they needed a resonable number of attempts to fix it. I ask him what a resonable number was? He couldn't answer. So each time you send it back your without your computer for 10 days. I said just send me a new one. He said he couldn't but if after some undetermined number of returns then he could. So I said just give me a refund. And that he could do. So I'm returning my MBP and going to wait for the second generation of MBPs that don't run so dam hot. Unfortunatley you have to get a little extra firm to have them do anything.
Oh yeah, he also said if he sent out a new one that it could have the heat problem to. And that the Engineers are working on it but DO NOT have A SOLUTION YET.
It's a bumer cause I like the computer. They should make it big enought not to have a heat issue and also to fit a dual layer burner for $3K. I don't need the thinnest computer just one that works comfortably on the desk in the lap etc. without excess heat issue, airport issues, and high pitched noises.
Apple dropped the ball on getting this to market before the bugs were worked out.
So I will wait, check these disucussion boards from time to time until things are running smoother. Good luck to you and don't cave into these folks trying to tell you the heat is ok or the noise, etc....you paid top $$$ expect the best and don't take any bull**.
Peace,
Time for a Margarita.

• MBP i7 battery wont charge above 95% (9-day-old)

hi guys,
i have a a Brand new MBP 17" i7 with SSD, and for some reason after 9 days of using the MBP it won't charge over 95%. the charge indicator is green & the apple battery status says 95% but won't go any higher, the last 3 days it has maxed out at 97% and i can handle that but for it to drop so quickly is making me nervous, especially because i rely on it for work and i know i can't 'just replace' the battery.
are there any tests or things i can do to reset the battery?
istat also says:
cycles: 6
health: 99%
capacity: 12921 (max 13000)
j4y

That's not an unusual occurrence as the charging circuitry shuts down once the charge level hits about 95%. Try removing the charger and let the battery run down a little, say to 90%, then reconnect. Eventually it should hit 100%. You should calibrate the battery to assure the charging circuit is properly calibrated for your battery.

I recently (Jan 2012) acquired a MacBook Pro (MBP) running 10.7.4 and an AirPort Express. I also have an old PPC G4 tower (Digital Audio model) running 10.4.11. The OS software on both machines is totally up to date. AirPort Utility on the G4 is 5.4.2 and on 6.0 on the MBP. I bought a used AirPort card for the G4, I believe it is 802.11b compatible, and the wireless data rate is specified at 11 Mbps. Being a newbie to wireless, it took me many days to get these two machines to link up. This network is not connected to the internet, and there no other networks in the vicinity.
My last problem to solve is the very slow file transfer speeds between the two machines. The transfer time seems to vary depending on which machine I use to initiate the transfer, and which direction the transfer is going. For example: If I initiate the transfer from the G4 and send a 5.4MB file to the MBP it takes 1:32 (min:sec), while the same file going from the MBP to the G4 takes 27 seconds. On the other hand if the transfer is initiated on the MBP, going from the MBP to the G4 takes 2:56, while going from the G4 to the MBP takes 1:59. I realize that these times are not actual wireless transfer times but includes the entire transfer process.
Both machines and the AirPort Express are within a 4-foot radius. Both machines are set to radio channel 2. The AirPort Express is set for 802.11n(802.11b/g compatible) with WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security.
Any help would be appreciated.
CEU2

BDAqua,
Thanks for the response.
Apple has used the term "Digital Audio" to identify this machine. System Profiler has the following information:
Machine Name: Power Mac G4
Machine Model: PowerMac3,5
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
Memory: 768 MB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.3.3f2
Serial Number: XBxxxxxMK9
Sales Order Number:
Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet. The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing. With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

• Timewarp / time remapping not running smoothly?

Hi, I've got a problem with speed variation. I got 25fps exr footage rendered out of 3ds max which I want to add some speed variation to it in AE. The problem I'm facing is the footage stutters when using time remapping. basically what I was trying to do was to render the scene out very slow so I can crank it up in AE. I've even tried different blending modes (pixel motion).
Here is what happens when trying to add some speed variation (when slowing it down to the footage initial speed)
1. time remapping causes stuttering.
2. while timewarp gives strange interpolation errors (looks like blurring error) speed goes like 100-->150-->100 and errors occurs when going back to 100
system:
windows 7 64bit, i7 2600k, 3,4GhZ, 16GB RAM, Geforce GTX 580
AE CS5.5

this 1 got timewarp ( and speed is cranked up, not slowed down)
thats the interpolation frame
that's without timewarp
time remapping brings same error but for RPF files looks like it works for EXR
looks like stuttering is not a problem anymore. i ran another random speed variation test and it'd run smooth. Have to double check it with the intended speed variation
I'll try to post a similar project where file size is smaller

• Feeling electric shock while charging Mac book Pro

Hai everyone!
i just bought a Mac bookPro 15 inch 2.53 Ghz.
i am feeling a mild tingling/ vibrating shock while charging my mac book pro. i can feel the sensation all over the aluminium unibody part- especially while using the Mac book as well as charging it at the same time. is it Earthing/ grounding problem? or is it any voltage problem? or is it any problem with my Mac Book Pro?
Thanks and Regards
Chaitanya.A

"I bought my laptop from the US, but i am using it in Spain , with the aid of a plug converter (3 pong to 2 European one)...
"1) is this problem i am experiencing due to the plug converter?"
Yes and no. Outside of the US, the AC line voltage is twice as high, and that's why people outside of the US generally experience the "shock". If you use a 3-prong plug adapter inserted in a properly-grounded AC outlet, the problem will be resolved.
"2) I am staying in student resident, and so i doubt that the MBP is not properly grounded.. That would be dangerous, no??"
If you are using a 2-prong prong adapter, your unit is not properly grounded. Using an improperly grounded computer is not dangerous.
"3) Aside from being extremely annoying sensation, is it bad for the laptop??"
No.
"Because if not, i can always use another keyboard.."
You mean, "if it IS" a problem , you can use another keyboard. Using another keyboard is does not change the grouping scheme of the computer.
"I am not saying whose fault this is, but i only felt this shock with the mac book pro (15 inch).. i owned a power book and a 13 in mac book, and never felt a shock like this before... Could it be because of the placement of the battery on the laptop?"
No, it's because you're using a metal-cased computer, at a high AC input voltage.

• Sync with iCloud while charging crashes WiFi

When i try to sync to iCloud while charging my iPhone 5 my WiFi goes down, not the phone but the router. After restarting the router it works again. Syncing manually while running phone on battery and wifi everyting works fine. Anyone else got this problem? Discoverd this because phone hadn't made any nightly backups for two weeks. Thats when i installed iOS 8.

Gee, why didn't I think of that? For those that may be keeping track this is a dlink Dir-655 (ON LATEST FIRMWARE).
I had no problems with my iPhone 5. I have no problems with my iPhone 6 EXCEPT when I let the phone attempt a full iCloud backup. I don't know what encryption or protocol this fires up but whatever it is it crashes the router. I am hoping others with router crashing can benefit. The seemingly random crashing some have may be when the phone attempts a backup.
Because i use I jumped phones and iOS versions at the same time I don't know for sure which is to blame but I suspect it is the iOS creating malformed packets. My router wont packet capture and I don't have $2000 for a wifi N capture adapter. So there is not much more troubleshooting I can do.
MY Apple fanboy co-workers have airports and don't have iphone connectivity issues. so maybe routers do need to catch up with some wonky thing Apple is doing. I am not against buying a new router if I knew it would fix the issue but I don't have spare cash to spend right now just to make the attempt. If a new router doesn't help I will have spent money for nothing on a non-returnable item.

Hi,
I just upgraded my iMac and MBP from the Mac OS X ML 10.8.5 to the latest OS X Mavericks 10.9.3.
The new system does not run smoothly.
No matter it's the iMac or the MBP, the screen freezes for a very short of time whenever I try to switch to a different running program(especially when I try to switch to other programs from the Safari).
So what's causing the problem? What should I do about it?
Thanks.
