MBP Sleeps When AC Disconnected

I realize fully that I need to disconnect my AC on my 2010 MBP and run on battery for a time at regular intervals. I have been negligent in that regard. Moreover, I know this issue is a common one that's been posted here before but a search does not yield the exact issue I am having.
When I disconnect my AC power, my MBP immediately goes to sleep even though I am showing near full battery charge. When I re-connect the AC power, it wakes up right away. Can someone walk me through the steps necessary to solve this "immediate sleep" issue? Is this a faulty battery calibration?

With the computer running on AC power, go to Apple menu > About This Mac > More Info, click "Power" in System Profiler's left sidebar, copy the charge information that is reported about your battery, and paste it into another post here, like this:
Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 4179
Fully charged: No
Charging: Yes
Full charge capacity (mAh): 4406
Health Information:
Cycle count: 132
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 410
Voltage (mV): 12485
That will help us assess what may be happening.

  • PB sleeping when power disconnected

    Hello,
I have a nearly brand new PB 15" with the enhanced video memory to run an external 30" display.
Recently, it has been going to sleep when I disconnect the power cord while it's closed and driving the external monitor (with external keyboard, etc.). It never used to do that, and I have no idea how to make it stop. It's really bothersome because sometimes I share that single power cord with (say) my sister's iBook when she comes over.
Furthermore, it also seems to be waking up when the plug is plugged in.
This is very bothersome behavior and I would really like to be able to run the laptop on battery power with the external montior.
Second problem is that the monitor power button does not wake the computer from sleep. Nor will bluetooth mouse when the power is unplugged.
    I welcome any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Doug

The iPod won't turn off unless the headphone jack is unplugged or the dock cable removed from the bottom of the unit. I'd suspect that even though you turn off your car, a small amount of power is still supplied to your stereo. So as far as the iPod is concerned, it's still plugged in and it will happily continue to play. This wouldn't surprise me one bit since most electronics NEVER actually turn off. Car stereos still need to keep the time and radio station presets so they are always powered from your car battery. The iPod is likely detecting this power through the headphone jack.
You may have to resort to manually turning off your iPod, no hidden settings that I can think of. It seems to be doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing!

  • I have a new MacBook Pro Mid 2012 and it goes into deep sleep when I disconnect if from AC power.

I have a new 13" MacBook Pro mid 2012 and it goes into deep sleep when it is disconnected from AC power.  I have to press the power button to wake it up.  Is this a known issue or is there something wrong with the MacBook Pro?

There are a few threads about this around. Its a known issue for 2012 non retina users, not sure about Apple. It should not work this way and Apple has not put out an update to fix it yet. Check out these threads for some workarounds. I think I saw if you reinstall and don't update one of the updates you get normal functionality back. Otherwise there are some terminal changes you can make to make it operate mostly normally. I made some changes in terminal.

  • My MBP recently started logging itself out.  I narrowed the problem to the external monitor which is connected with a Thunderbolt adapter. When I disconnected it, the problem went away.

My early 2011 MBP laptop (OS Yosemite 10.2.2) recently started logging itself out.  I narrowed the problem to the external monitor which is connected with a Thunderbolt adapter. I installed Thunderbolt firmware update 1.2, that did not correct the problem. When I disconnect the external monitor, the problem went away. Is there something I can do to be able to use the external monitor again?

    Try Function F1

  • When I disconnect my MBP from my Thunderbolt display and reconnect, arrangement resets.

I have a MBP Retina and a 27" Thunderbolt display. When I disconnect from the Thunderbolt display and then reconnect, my arrangement is reset and I have to set it again.  This has been happening for the last day.
I am on OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite and I just updated the Thunderbolt firmware yesterday.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, there seems to be a bug in iOS 8 or iTunes 12.1.1 that cause this problem and I have not seen a solution

  • Macbook pro not turning on after SMC reset. I have the following problem. Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011does not sleep when closing the screen. smc due loud fan and an X on battery symbol

Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011 dos not sleep when closing the screen cover. Today I Turner my laptop in. However the fan was working loudly and stayed loud. After Start I noticed an X on Battery symbol. Clicking on it, it showed 'no battery.' I found out that a potential solution for this problem was SMC reset. I also noticed that the leds on magsafe was not lightning. Despite this I tried to execute the smc reset as described on apple support site. Switching off, plugin the magsafe connector, pushed the buttons shift + alt+ ctrl + power. Then i pushed the power button, but my mbp is not turning on. I pushed several times on the power button but nothing works. The magsafe is also dark meaning the leds not lightning. Can anyone here help me on this ?

Problem solved by my own. But do not how :) magsafe again working and the laptop tooo

  • MBP 13" does not sleep when plugged in and wifi on

    Hello,
    I have a new MBP 13'  core i7 @ 2.9Ghz  -750Gb HDD.
My mbp does not want to sleep when it is plugged in and wifi is on.  I close the lid and nothing happens.
On the other hand, if WiFi is off or the mbp is simply not plugged in, I close the lid and it goes to sleep.
Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this ?

  • MBP 13" - Going to Sleep when moved

I have a new 13" MBP and I noticed last week that it just went to sleep when I lifted it off my lap and placed it on the table.
I was downloading an update at the time and also using iSquint to convert some video clips for my iPod so the machine was warm but hardly over stressed.
I tried to recreate this a few times afterwards and it seemed to work everytime I moved the MBP. I disable the Sudden Motion Sensor - cured it. Re-enabled the sensor and it seemed to stay cured until last night when I was doing the same thing again (Mac OS and Safari updates and iSquint).
It's not like these are particularly sudden movements that would be causing this.
Are they supposed to sleep if they get too hot? Could it just be overheating?
EDIT: I should just mention that since this has happened it's also become very unreliable with sleeping. It goes to sleep when it shouldn't and when I try to wake it I get a blank screen. Seems I have to open and close the lid a few times to get the screensaver logon box to appear again.

  • Stop MBP from sleeping when lid is shut - for watching movies on Apple TV

I recently bought a MBP and Apple TV both work fine but because the MBP is connected to an external monitor, the MBP is always in clamshell mode (lid is shut) So the thing keeps going to sleep when I'm watching movies on the TV screen. I have the 'wake for network access' set to on, this doesn't seem to work either.
Basically how can I keep the MBP from going to sleep when the lid is down and no activity has occurred, so I don't have to get up halfway through a movie to start up the Mac again, cos the homesharing connection has been lost because the MBP has gone to sleep again!!!?
    Thanks

Is it possible to set up the mac against one user account so that when that account is open the macbook does not go into sleep if the macbook lid is shut? However I would want the other user accounts to set the mac to sleep if the lid is shut.
You might be able to do it with Insomniax. I haven't tried it in the way you asked but it might be able to if you se it up to run in one account and not the other.
Also is it possible to tell the mac to go to sleep if the lid is shut when running on batteries but to stay awake with the lid shut when running on mains power?
    None that I know of.
The MacBook will go to sleep if it is connected to an external monitor and you close the lid. Once it is closed you can wake it up and use it. The two links referenced in the other post show how to do this. You can also do it with just a wireless blue tooth mouse and no external keyboard. Just set it so the bluetooth devices will wake it. You also can use your Apple remote to wake it with an external display connected. It will allow you to use Front Row with the lid closed on the external display.

  • MBP won't sleep when charging

My 15" i5 MacBook Pro won't sleep when charging; a reset of the SMC solves the problem temporarily, but it always recurs. Interestingly, the sleep indicator light pulses as if the machine is sleeping, but I can clearly hear hard drive activity; the drive sounds like it keeps spinning up every 10 seconds or so. This is not an issue when trying to sleep when running on the battery only. Any advice?

I would just buy a wall charger for the touch and leave your MBP alone. If you really only wanted to charge it from the MBP, just make sure it doesn't sleep when plugged into the power adapter.

  • Using NoSleep for MBP going to sleep when lid is closed

    hy,
Is there any problem if  I Use Nosleep (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/37991/nosleep) to keep my mac from going to sleep when lid is closed?

    1. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405

  • Airport looses AX when the MBP sleeps.

I had problems maintaining my computer's connection with my AX back in Novemer & December. Enough hints and enough fumbling around and I got a constant connection.
Then yesterday I changed the identity and password of my AX. Now anytime my computer sleeps, when it awakes Airport has lost the connection. My AX is set for WPA2/personnel and cloaked identity.
Coincidentally, I updated to the latest version of the Airport Utility. Connection?
Any ideas? Others with similar problems?

    More information:
If I turn Airport off then back on, Airport connects to my AX.
I checked my Keychain. There was an entry for my old ID which I deleted. Made no difference.

  • MBP won't sleep when shutting lid

For about a week now, my Macbook Pro won't go to sleep when I close it.--It stays running, and gets hot.
However, using the power button to put it to sleep or choosing sleep from the Apple menu works fine.
    Any suggestions?

This issue has been covered extensively in Macfixit.
I would make sure though that you aren't running any applications in the background or have any third party peripherals connected when you close the lid. Make sure also the Energy Saver System Preferences Options has Wake from Sleep for administrative access unchecked. It is found in your Apple menu -> System Preferences.
If you find that you aren't able to stop it from happening, make sure your firmware version gets up to date, and your hardware test tests fine:
