MBP slow performance post upgrade
My MBP has become brutally slow since upgrading to 10.7 from 10.6. My daughter is experiencing the same issues.
MBP, 2.2G Icode I7
16 Gig Ram
1TB hard drive
I ONLY upgraded to gain some application support.
I have a FEELING that this problem stems from manufactures making their apps SLOW to make the users upgrade hardware!
Comments?
Sorry, she's at college; I've been using Macs since they first came out.
My first computer was an Apple ][+.
I work in IT.
I need a real answer, not something out of the playbook please.
Engineering?
Or is my knee jerk reaction correct? New hardware?
BTW, I had to do a total reload when I upgraded to 10.7. Seems this is a typical problem????? 10.7 is problem release? Like Windows 95 and Windows ME?

MBP slow after Mavericks upgrade?
Ever since installing Mavericks (or maybe it's unrelated, who knows) my MBP just seems sluggish. My impression is that the sluggishness is related to disk IO. I've thought about upgrading to an SSD since I know that would help, but I think it would jsut be masking whatever the underlying issue is here (barring hardware failure). Below is my EtreCheck output. Any ideas?

You might try removing some of it using the developer's uninstall instructions. You also might try running fewer programs at the same time or increasing your RAM.

Imac slow performance after upgrade to 10.10.2
Following the installation of 10.10.2, my imac (circa 2010) is super slow to launch apps and in general just is under performing. A security update seems to be installed every time I reboot.. has anyone seen similar behavior? Tips ?
Thanks !1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
[Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
Please close this window.
[Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

I'm having a problem on my iMac early 2008 (2.4GHz Core 2 Duo 4gb SDRAM) after upgrading to Mac OS X Lion.
The animation such as mission control and full screen and especially, launch pad performs really slow.
Sometimes, mission control doesn't even show the animation.
This is terrible and I want Apple to fix these problems or otherwise this is just making my mac useless.
Does anyone experience having similar problem?thanks for the reply!
I've checked the activity monitor but nothing was taking up the space expect for Flash Player (Safari Internet plug-in, which takes up 29% of CPU)
here's my screenshot. can you see any problems?

Slow performance after upgrading stations to win8.1 on 2012 server
Hi all;
I've just upgraded some of the stations on a 2012 server network from winXp to win8.1
There are other stations with win7. No more WinXp stations.
The new stations running 8.1 are now running slower than the old XP machines.
The app is written in VFP9 SP2 with hotfixes applied.
I believe we also turned off smb3 and smb2 a while ago to relieve the index corruption problems we were experiencing.
Anyone has any suggestions to increase performance? I'm considering to re-activate smb3 since there are no more XP machines but I'm kinda worried about corrupted data etc.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.Any other ideas for Aleniko?
Thanks!

Why is my mac mini slower performance after upgrade to OS X Mavericks.
Since I updated my standard mac mini mid 2011 ( CPU I5 2.5 GHz , 4 GB 1333 DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 6630 256 MB DDR5 , 500 GB harddrive 5400 ) to OS X Mavericks it starts up slower , operates slower when working on it and shuts down slower then when OS X Lion was installed.
In short for me it does not perform as it has been advertised , being the better, easier and faster new OS X.
Is this something that will be resolved or is this it ?Here's the result of etrecheck maybe somebody can tell me if there is a problem :

Really slow performance after upgrading to OSX 10.4.3
After I upgraded to 10.4.3 my PowerBook started to take really long time to start running after turing it on, it stays on the first screen with the apple and the thinking circle for really long time before actually promting for the login password, is that normal with the upgrade or did I did something wrong.
just in case it is a powerbook, 15'', 1.67 ghz, 1gb ram

Power Book G4 Mac OS X (10.4.3)
Power Book G4 Mac OS X (10.4.3)Hi Benjas,
Welcome to Apple Discussoins
One thing you might want to do is run some "cron jobs"/maintanence scripts from OnyX. Before you do that I suggest getting more information about that type of Utility from past post like this one.
I hope that helps,
Jon
PS I usually repair permissions and do the daily, weekly, and monthly scripts and thats it. -
Excessive reads affecting SAP ECC 6 performance post upgrade.
We just recently upgraded SAP to ECC 6, r2. We are using Windows Server OS 2000 for both database and application servers, and SQL Server 2000 sp4 is the DBMS. While the SAP application is performing its work and producing results, it is taking longer to complete and thus the perception is that this new version of SAP is not working!
I say 'excessive reads' because when you look at the transaction load via SM66, there are many more sequential reads occurring than were occurring before the upgrade.
Help Please as I just heard a person ask if we could roll back to 4.6c. Any suggestions are most appreciated.Hi Carla,
I suppose you have done all the necessary stuff like update statistics. Please check note 155413 and analyze the statements. The step from 4.6c to ECC6.0 is not only big, it is huge (concerning changes within the application), so the perception of your users is not that wrong. You are running the latest version from SAP on the oldest supported versions from Microsoft - that doesn't really make sense. A quick gain would be an upgrade to SQL Server 2005 (better optimizer, better tools,...). If this really affects your production environment, open a call at SAP.

VERY Slow performance after upgrading to v4.5
Since I upgraded to to v 4.5.138 my VZ BB 8830 has slowed to a crawl. Even trying to make or receive a phone call I get a spinning hour glass for several seconds. It gets worse over time to the point where I have to take the battery out and restart.
Then it is OK for a few minutes but gets progressively slower. Very annoying.
Also, I can no longer sync, either with PocketMac or with the new BB DTM, despite uninstalling everything and reinstalling.Holding the power button turns the phone off.....
alt, shift, del resets the phone.
When turning the phone off, the phone is in a low power state I believe....I don't think it actually turns completely off. As you can set it to come on at certain times.
A reset is the proper way to go.
It actually mimicks removing the battery. -
Slow performance after iOS 7.1 upgrade, please help.
My kids have iPad Airs. One of them has a serious slow down in performance after upgrading to iOS 7.1. The others work fine. It is so slow that it is unusable. When you type a single character, it takes several seconds to show up on the screen. I'm rebooted and did a reset in Settings. Any other ideas? Please help.
I called Apple Support (800-275-2273) and they also recommended a reset: "Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears".
It came to a screen with a USB cable and arrow to iTunes logo. I had to connect to my PC and lanuch iTunes. iTunes recognized the iPad in restore mode. My only option per Apple Support was to restore to factory defaults. It appears all data is lost.
The Apple Support person would not admit that this is a known issue with iOS 7.1 even though you can go online and see that may people have slow performance after upgrading to iOS 7.1. -
IPad slow performance on iOS 7
I've notice on my iPad 3 that dictation sometimes doesn't work at all, and downloading Youtube video's is slow. Using iOS 6 these fuctions were fine.

Another "horrible performance after upgrading to Lion" post
Hi,
Sorry for yet another "my computer has horrible performance after upgrading to Lion" post. I did search the forum before posting.
I have a relatively new Macbook Pro, 8 GB RAM, 2.8 MHz Intel i7 CPU. I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, then Lion to 10.7.2.
The first time I upgraded, I no longer had my user account, so restored from Time Machine back to SL. After a month or so, I hoped Apple had fixed the bug, so I redownloaded and reinstalled, and this time the upgrade succeeded.
Ever since the upgrade, my MBP runs like a dog. I get the spinning beach ball constantly, across all range of applications, both Apple and 3rd party. Occasionally it doesn't wake up from sleep (close, open lid) and I have to kick it in the head by holding down the power button.
I've tried booting into the recovery partition, running disk utility, and repairing disk and permissions. I've read elsewhere (Google hit) that doing a completely clean install fixes the performance issues (for those users anyway).
I know this is a fairly generic post, but any advice on how to maximize machine performance under Lion, or should I revert to Snow Leopard? Do I really have to wipe the disk, install fresh, restore all non-OS files (don't accidentally wipe a required OS file), then reapply the 10.7.2 maintenance? Yuck.
Thanks,
Scotttry an SMC reset if you are not seeing any weird spikes in Activity Monitor and you've deduced that none of your third party drivers or apps are interfearing with the way lion works.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

First off, i think it's sad that i have to use my non apple device to post this question... Why has my iPad become absolutely useless after updating to iOS 8.1? I am unable to use my mini because it crashes, slow performance, major battery drain.
Restore iPad to Factory Default; do not restore from backup. It may be the cause of the problem.

MBP Slowed so much after upgrade, added RAM, now it crashed many times
Hi,
My MBP slowed so much righted away after I upgraded to OS X Mavericks, I upgraded to 16GB RAM as suggested, and the problem of slow got resloved, but now it crashed all the time, totally crased over 10 times within couple days(only few hours of using), I am pasting my MBP info here, please help to identify the crashing problem, is it the bad RAM? or some program caused it? I brought my 16GB RAM at macsales.com.
This was my old thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/23847638#23847638
I use VM Ware. The crash only tell me "your computer had a problem" or something like that, but it won't say which program caused it. Sometimes I was using firefox, it got crashed, sometimes when I try to open VM Ware, it crashed, sometimes, I leave my MBP there, it crashed itself.
The following is my computer info. Thank you very much for your help!

Recent upgrade, slow performance, shown in Activity Monitor
I have been experiencing gradually slowing performance in the last couple of weeks, the only thing I have done a couple months ago is upgrade to Leopard, though the timing does not indicate it's this precisely.
It is most noticeable in Safari and PS CS3 and Bridge, the programs I mostly use.
In Activity Monitor, when this occurs there are a couple of offending processes, and they are always hanging when the slowing phases happen. They say, in red:
UserEventAgent (not responding)
and/or
coreaudioid (not responding)
Does anyone know what this might be? How I can correct whatever this is?
thxThat thread indicates the cause points to various plug-ins primarily from Pro Tools. I do have PT installed, and I have now uninstalled it. We'll see if things improve. Otherwise I don't know how to isolate the cause, for example another random plug-in, so the thread was of limited value. Good start though, thanks.
Pro Tools LE 7.x is apparently not yet compatible with Leopard, joy.
