MBP Some applications wont start

When I try to start Miro or MS Office they wont start and want to send error reports. I send them but it doesnt solve anything.  All the other applications open fine.  I started another user on my mac book and tried to open the applications and they worked fine. Has anyone had this problem? Sould I just start a new user, and if I do how do I transfer all of my file.  Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

before you can try: open your mbp and take out one of your ram's and start, if beeps still occure take out this ram and put in the other you removed before ...
take care that ram seats properly !
p.s. look in your manual, how to open your mbp you can keep it open for this procedure above but take care that it's on a clean soft-cloth; also keep in mind what screws are where !

  • Macbook Pro - Applications wont start without External Display

    Hi all,
Apologies if this question has already been answered, but I have spent a lot of time Googling to no avail...
I have an early 2011 15" MBP with the following spec:
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro8,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          8 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP81.0047.B24
      SMC Version (system):          1.69f1
AMD Radeon HD 6490M / Intel HD Graphics 3000
Snow Leopard Mac OS X 10.6.8
I normally use the MBP with a 27" Cinema Display connected (mini display port/thunderbolt connector) and the clamshell shut. All is fine.
However, if I remove the external monitor and want to use the MBP with just its own display, some applications will not start. They bounce int he dock for a while and then hang, and need to be forcibly killed. Not all applications behave this way, but so far I have experienced this with Aperture 3.2, Omnigraffle, Parallels, Pixelmator.
Does anyonw have a clue whats going on and how to fix?
    Thanks

    Hi Grant & Bob
    Thanks for your responses.
The adaptor has been removed from the Mac, and I have tried all the obvious solutions (like using detect displays), but to no avail.
I will try and investigate some  other scenarious (like using a different external display) and see what happens.
    Thanks

My new (I've had it one week) MBP 17" wont start. A program froze (a casino game). I tried force quit and that didn't work so I turned the computer off & tried to re-boot. Now when I turn it on I get a plain white screen and a series of three "beeps" from the left speaker. I've tried the suggestions from the manual but it keep getting the same response. • Nokia 5530 - Applications wont start

I sent some games to my Nokia 5530 via bluetooth, installed successfully and working, so then i made a folder in Applications directory and moved all the games onto that folder. The next day i turn on my phone, start a game it wont load up, none of the games would start in Games folder, the default games such as Bounce does start, what could be wrong?

if you move the games ( or apps) to a new folder in file manager(because you want to be organized), the phone is trying to find the file under the old location. Either put them back in the old location, or reinstall them from their new location. Hope this helps.

  • N-gage application wont start

I was playing some n-gage came at class today, exited the app and put my phone down. 20 minutes later when I wanted to start the n-gage app, it wouldn't start.
It starts to initialize, the screen empties, but instead of the application coming up, I'm right back where I was, and the application is not running. I even get that "running little blue arrow" next to the n-gage icon, then that disappears as well.
I even tried installing the app again, restarting the phone, removing the battery etc nothing changed.
I have an N82, not that it's relevant atm.
    Any ideas?

    Unfortunately, you cannot. Sorry.

  • Some applications wont open or will 'quit unexpectedly'

I don't know what is wrong. Everything was fine, then some 'Widevine Media Optimizer' started popping up and quitting unexpectedly. I didnt know what it was so I just ignored it. Next thing I know, I can't open Pages, iPhoto, iMovie, Spotify, iTunes, or Kindle (maybe more that I havent tried) Kindle will open for a split second and then 'quit unexpectedly', the others will just bounce for a few seconds and then stop. I dont know what's' wrong and I need Pages for school. Someone help please! haha
    i use a Macbook Pro 10.6.8

Widevine Media Optimizer is a browser plugin ...
    Try ...
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/WidevineMediaOptimizer.plugin
    and  /Library/Internet Plug-Iins/WidevineMediaOptimizer
Move the WidevineMediaOptimizer plugin to the Trash.

  • Some applications wont open - mail persistently wont respond

Some apps, specifically iTunes, Spotify and mail don't respond when I click on them in the dock. Spotify and iTunes jump up and down suggesting they're opening but eventually they stop jumping but don't open. When I right click it says application not responding.
Mail opens fine on startup (I have it opening automatically) but when I notice a badge showing new mail then click on it to show the app, nothing happens. Right clicking again shows application not responding.
Restarting my mac sorts it out for a while but then after a few hours the problem is there again.

I'd try and do some basic maintenance steps on your HD.
-check the filesystem is intact using disk utility. If there's damage, run disk utility from the Mac OS DVD (from the installer menu select 'utilities>disk utility'.
-repair permissions (again with disk utility).
-clear out caches, with onyx (free download) or something similar.
-open the console application (utilities>console) and look at the log when these applications fail to open. The log ought to indicate why this is the case.

  • Some applications wont open

i was installing a software update and as soon as i turned on my external hard drives my screen turned black and said i need to restart my computer. the software update didnt finish. when i turned my computer back on, it seemed fine except now a lot of my applications won't open. some will, some won't. Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?
    thanks

If I read your message right, you turned on external drives during an update? That message to restart is a kernel panic and I am sorry to say, I am not wholly surprised: trying to mount disks while an update is in progress is not the tidiest way of operating.
My initial reaction would be to suggest reaching for the installer disks and putting on OS X again, using the Archive and Install option. In that way, you will preserve your data and settings (although I would still back up to be sure). It might also be worth your while thinking about a total reinstall (see if the Archive and Install works OK first, but be ready).

  • Applications wont start

its a G3 most of the applications will no longer start, i've tried starting up from a different source from within the OS and from holding down the alt-shift-option-delete at startup but nothing will work. I'd like to scan the drive since i thing it must have errors. Any adive would be appreciated.

Look for: Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Open it, select your hard drive and click repair permissions. It will run for about five minutes doing stuff that seems completely inscrutable.
If the problem is not solved, you will need to boot from a System/Install CD, but do not proceed with the install! Instead, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. Select your hard drive. Click Repair. If errors, repeat the repair until clean (or stuck). If clean, click Repair Permissions.

  • Some applications are starting up as if just installed them

Started up my Mac this morning as normal and when I opened i-photo it acted as if I just installed the program. When I clicked ok to open i-photo all pics in my library were gone. I checked the original photos in my i-photo library folder and they are there but not within the application. Similarly, I'm have parallels installed and when I tried to start that program, it acts as if I just installed it (i.e. it wants me to install my windows cd). this problem is not for all my application, for example i-tunes is fine and still has all my music and playlists. MS word, excel, and powerpoint are fine. anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Some applications starting slowly / hang for a minute after launching

    Hi!
For some time now, some applications are starting really slowly. The ones I could identify by now are Apple Pages, Microsoft Excel and Wofram's Mathematica. When I click the respective icon to start the application, the dock symbol jumps and everything looks fine, the system doesn't hang but when the just started application is active (its name appears on top, next to the Apple logo), the mouse cursor turns to the famous spinning beach ball when I move it to the top of the screen. The same happens when I just close an Document and create a new one (when all Pages documents are closed, the program presents all the templates; when I choose one, it hangs).
This behaviour doesn't appear everytime, but very often, so it is repeatable. I can't identify some point in time when this started, I don't think it has something to do with the 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 update. Pages is the newest version, as is Excel. Mathematica is version 5.2.0. I absolutely have no idea where to start to look for a reason for all this. I hope that someone here can help me!
    Thanks in advance,
    Marco
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi!
    Thanks for your answer too!
    1) Run Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on your hard drive.
Did that, some permissions were corrected (as always...)
    2) Boot from your Tiger install disc and run Disk Utility and use the Repair Disk option on your hard drive.
After checking the disk, the Utility said that everything is fine.
    1) You mentioned that this problem has been going on
for some time now. Can you think of any software
that you installed or software that you updated at
the time that you first noticed this behavior?
Unfotunately, I can't. This started about 3-4 weeks ago but I absolutely can't remember installing or doing something special that falls into the same region of time.
    2) Do you run any kind of system hacks/optimizing software?
No, not as far as I know. I don't think that I ever installed some piece of software that really alters something in terms of the system itself (except for TinkerTool System, but I didn't start that in months)
    3) What programs do you typically have open all of the time?
Mail and Safari are running all the times; other applications I'm using frequently are TextWrangler, X11, XCode, Terminal and World of Warcraft, among others.
(Almost) Sure Fire Solution to this problem: [...]
I knew that this was coming up
Of course, a complete reinstall is a solution I don't really like. I got my iBook last October, so this installation is running for 9 months now. But as everything else is fine, I really don't want to format my HD and do it the hard way.
By the way: I tried a few more applications and surprisingly, Apple Keynote, MS Word and MS Powerpoint don't hang after starting up. I also deleted all iWork and MS Office related stuff in ~/Library/Preferences and still no luck...
