MBP - Very dim green light and won't turn on

I left my mbp running, and drained last week (overnight). after which, I tried using it, and it wont charge anymore (it shows a very dim green light only when connected to the charger) and it doesnt power on either.
My brother opened it up, took out the battery and connected the charger, but same thing - just the faint green light. I also tried using the charger in my sisters macbook and it was working fine so i know its not the charger...
Weeks prior to this, i noticed i had to wiggle the cord at times before it shows that its charging but i just ignored it.
Could this be a port problem? My brother is considering a logic board failure as worst case scenario, but my mbp is just over a year old, and i dont understand why that would happen. I really took good care of my laptop.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
More than a port issue, I think it's related to the logic board. It looks like the charger is not detecting the battery, meaning that the battery connector is damaged, but the problem is that you can't turn on your Mac, so it means a logic board problem. Anyway, if it's a port problem, you will need the logic board replaced.
It's a very expensive repair, but if your Mac is in warranty, you will get it repaired for free. Take it to an Apple Store or reseller to get your logic board replaced. You didn't lose anything from your hard disk

Thank you for your detailed troubleshooting attempts.  Very helpful.  Sorry, I cannot read "logs."  My eyes just glass over on those things.  Hopefully, a knowledgeable user will come along shortly to decipher for you.
I noticed from the pics that your location setting is "untitled."  Have you tried the "Automatic" setting?  Run the diagnostic test?  Results?
    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

  • Macbook Pro Mid-2010 15" is not charging with dim green light

    Hi all,
I have spilled a bit of water on the keyboard of my Macbook Pro this Monday. It continued working just fine.
So, I took it home, and 2h later, when I pluged the charger in, the light turned into a very faint/dim green light and it was not charging anymore. It does not consumes battery power, because it's plugged in the outlet, but it does not charge either (says "not charging").
    I have tried the following:
Plugging it in to a different outlet
    Trying other MagSafe chargers
Making sure it's the correct charger (85w)
    Resetting SMC
    Resetting NVRAM
I have opened the back, and although I could not dismount it anymore because the lack of appropriate screwdrivers, I could find no sign of humidity or water damage.
Checking the system information page in the MacOS, I could notice that, when the charger is plugged, amperage information gradually progresses from ~ -2000 to 0.
And it does not seem to recognize the charger. See below:
    AC Charger Information:
    Connected:     Yes
    ID:     0x0000
    Wattage (W):     0
    Revision:     0x0000
    Family:     0x0000
    Serial Number:     0x00000000
    Charging:     No
Do you guys have any other suggestions?

If you are lucky, the power adapter is faulty.  I suspect that there are problems inside the MBP.  I still advocate a trip to an Apple store genius bar.  Your MBP has a hardware issue and they (Apple) can diagnose it and tell you exactly what will be required to repair it.

    Hello Everyone,
This is my first time using the forum. My macbook battery will not charge. I have tried unplugging and doing an SMC reset but it did not seem to change. I have yet to try another magsafe charger. The charger has a dim green light while plugged into the computer. What should my next steps be, besides trying a new charger as well as being the most cost effective?
    Thanks

    Hi ..
    The battery may need replacing.
Check the battery maximum cycle count > Mac notebooks: Determining battery cycle count
And check the adapter >  Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters

  • TS1367 My charger connects with my macbook with a very faint green light (not the normal orange light) and can maintain the computer turned on but does not charge the battery.

My charger connects with my computer with a very faint green light (not the normal orange light) and can maintain the computer turned on but does not charge the battery. The power source to keep it on is the power adapter and that it's "Not charging" on the battery settings. And my charger seems to charge other computers fine.
The part of my mac where the adapter (L-shaped, magnetic) attaches is a bit damaged - a small piece of the white case/body around the part where the adapter attaches is broken off, but that's just an outer damage.
I don't know what's wrong with my computer, and if anyone has had a similar experience or knows what's going on, it'd be tremendously helpful!
    Thank you!!

    Hi Christopher,
Doubtful an upgrade would fix a hardware issue. If you are thinking of upgarding to Lion, best to do all necessary maintenance first.
Try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • My Macbook pro when plugged in will hold a green light and not be recognized by the computer to charge.  SMC reset done several times.  Any help?

Our MBP bought earlier this year when plugged in to charge will hold a green light and not be recognized by the computer as charging.  Sometimes if we turn it around or plug it in multiple times will work.  We have reset the SMC several times and will work for a little while then go back to the same problem.  Any help or ideas on how to fix it would be great.

    Hi Why must I,
I'm sorry to hear you are having charging issues with your MacBook Pro. It sounds like you have been on the right track in troubleshooting this issue; SMC resets are often an appropriate step for battery or power issues. My macbook pro (late 2009) model has a dim green light on the charger. I took the back panel off, unplugged the battery from the motherboard, plugged in the charger, the turn on chime sounded. I unplugged the charger, plugged the battery back in and the computer came back on.
My problem is that its sitting on a 0% charge and the charger still has a dim green light! Help!!!

    Hello PcktRckt37,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I'd like you to reset the SMC as is outlined in the article below to try and resolve this issue of your battery not charging correctly.

sounds like you broke the display when you dropped it.  There's nothing we users here can do for you.
Since the iPhone warranty does not cover accidental damage, you will have to pay to have your phone repaired or replaced.  You can bring it into Apple for an out of warranty exchange in the country of purchase, or you can find a 3rd party iPhone repair store in your area.

  • Red light and won't charge

I got my bb 9300 a couple of weeks ago. my problem is that it suddenly shuts off and the led would turn to red light. it won't turn on. I thought it was just battery empty or something so I charge my phone, it them keeps on having red light and then keeps on having this image of no battery or something. It did turn on one time then vibrates hard and then turns off again. After that it won't turn on. just red light, no battery. Please help.

If you tried a wall charger (that previously worked with your shuffle) and computer ports, the most likely cause is a problem on the iPod.  At seven months, it may not be the battery (although it sounds like you use it a lot every day), but it sounds like the battery is unable to charge.
Does the iPod still appear in iTunes when you connect it?  If it does, you can try doing a Restore using iTunes.
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
If the wall charger is something you did not previously try, it's possible that the computer's USB port is not supplying enough power.  As a test, shut down (power off) your computer and disconnect all USB devices (including any hubs).  You can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  If the computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter so that it's not running on battery power.  Put the shuffle power switch in the OFF position.  Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on the computer.
At seven months, it is still under warranty.

  • My ipod shuffle 2nd gen suddenly stops playing music after 15-20 mins.First it flashes green light and then flashes red light rapidly. Any solution to this ?

My ipod shuffle 2nd gen suddenly stops playing music after 15-20 mins.First it flashes green light and then flashes red light rapidly. Any solution to this ?

A 2nd gen shuffle is about six year old at this point.  The likely cause is a battery that is worn out, with greatly reduced capacity or inability to hold a charge.  The initial green light shows a good charge.  The red light means the battery is drained.
Since the shuffle still appears in iTunes, you can try doing a Restore in case the cause is related to corrupted software on the shuffle.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.
Also, when the light becomes red and the shuffle stops playing, try turning OFF the shuffle for at least ten seconds.  Then, turn it back ON.  This resets the shuffle.  Does it play again?  If it does, let it play until it no longer plays again.  Repeat turning it OFF and ON until it no longer plays.  Then, connect it to power and charge it to full.  See if that makes any difference.
If that does not help, the solution is to replace the battery.  If you have a repair shop do it, the cost is probably uneconomical, compared to the cost of a brand new 4th gen shuffle ($50) that has more features, and a new set of headphones, plus a one-year warranty.
If you are good at such things, this web site has repair guides

The model 2,1 MacBook has an easily removable battery. You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

    Removing the battery:
Shut down the computer. Disconnect any cords connected to the computer.
    Turn the computer over.
Locate the battery latch on one side of the battery.
Use a coin to turn the latch a quarter-turn clockwise. The battery should pop up slightly.
    Lift the battery out.
    Installing the battery:
Place the right side of the battery into the battery compartment at an angle, as shown below.
Gently press the left side of the battery down until it sits flat.
While holding the battery down, use a coin to turn the latch a quarter-turn counter-clockwise. The battery should lock into place.
Note: Keep in mind that once the new battery is inserted, you will need to press the power button to start up the computer.

  • Macbook Pro suddenly shuts off. screen goes black and won't turn off till after a few hours.

    Hi everyone!
So I've had this problem from my macbook since months ago. It sometimes just shuts off by itself, the screen turning black and won't turn on until like after a few hours (sometimes a day, but sometimes you could also immediately open it just like that.)
When it shuts off and you plug the adapter it is still charging, the lights on the side of the macbook book still lights up just fine if you press the button on the side. the only problem is that it wont open until after a few minutes, hours or days (very unpredictable) (also tapping the macbook helps, I dont know if it "really" helps or not, but it works sometimes.) But when it open it will be working fine until another couple of weeks or 3 or a month (again unpredictable)
I dont know what's wrong with my laptop, please help me. It would be greatly appreciated! thank you so much in advance!

Hold the power button down for 10+ seconds.  Then bring the MBP to an Apple store for an evaluation.
    Ciao.
