MBP very hot after firmware 1.5 update

Hi.
Anybody else had this issue ?
I think it started after i updated the firmware on my MBP 2.4Ghz to v1.5
Now idle temp is around 62c all the time and the fans starts to run very fast
only with little activity.
I did check if anything was running the CPU 100% "Activity manager"
Nothing. CPU 3% with 5 apps running. And i also ran the Diagnostic disc (AHT)
Before the 1.5 update i never heard the fans really but now they starts
a lot more often and that means the heat went up (Ofcause)
Anything to do ? I want it back to the old behavior much more quiet and nice.
Not to speak about in the long run. It will last longer that way i´m sure.
Would love to hear if anybody have some ideas.

Crazy. All this started after a stupid firmware update. I mean. How stupid is that.
My MBP 2.4Ghz was clean silence and not this hot. Its from Feb 2008.
After the 1.5 firmware it got hotter for sure.
Mine is lifted 10cm over the table and still very hot idle.
CPU temp 62c
CPU core 1 & 2 is 63c-64c
And this is only idle ! before it was a lot cooler.
I remember i never heard the fans and thats why i found out something was wrong.
Now i hear the fans with only small things like browsing with safari and burn a DVD.
Check here.

My model should be between 45c - 52c that would be more normal for my 2.4ghz model.
Could i go to Apple and get a new computer with this issue ? would that be enough ?

My MacBook Pro is running very hot after lion install.  Are there any hardware changes that will help? What can I do to get it back to normal?

I get the impression that most of the users on older hardware experiences similar temperature issues on Lion for a long time now. Awaiting for confirmation from the original poster.
In the meantime I'm just cautious with regards to pushing the machine to such extreme temps, since something tells me such behaviour which includes monitor flickering and the likes is nothing but abnormal for any type of use...
Any clues if 10.7.5 does anything on this? If not I'm afraid i see myself going back to SL for good...

I got my 2nd iphone 5s brand you, it s getting very hot after 10 min of usage

It means take it back to where you bought it from. If you don't want to do that you'll have to be more specific like how long you've had the phone and how you are using the phone when it gets hot. That kind of information. The more we know about the phone the easier it is to diagnose and offer suggestions.

Possible hardware issue by Ip4s. I would call support on this and this would be possibly replaced. Verify this with them.

  • Black Macbook runs very hot after installing MS Office 11.5.7 update

I don't know if the two events are causally related, but my black Santa Rosa Macbook is now running scorchingly hot (74 - 85 degrees C) after I installed the MS Office 11.5.7 update tonight. Won't cool down. When turned off for twenty minutes, then re-booted, it begins to run very hot again within a minute or two, despite SMC fan control being on.
Activity monitor says a kernel task at the root level is using 160.46 gigs of real memory and 1.24 gigs of virtual memory; something called "mds" also at root is eating 43 megs of real memory and 733 megs of virtual; a "database daemon" under my user name uses only 23 megs of real memory but over a gig of virtual, and "netupdateagent" which may or may not have something to do with Intego updates uses a whopping 2.9 gigs of virtual but only 6.9 of real memory.

  • Safari 3.1 doesn't work after Firmware 1.5 update

Hi. After downloading the Firmware 1.5 update, I can't use Safari 3.1 anymore. I am able to connect on-line (e.g., I can search successfully for updates), but I cannot web-browse. I reloaded my ISP software, and that is not the problem. I also have cleared the cache on Safari and that didn't help either. Please help. Thank you!

If you were actually right don't you think that Apple would put a proviso on every software update to repair permissions before and after install in their release note? Or perhaps even automate the process for OSX user as part of install process?
Do you Verify your disk occasionally? Apple could automate that as part of chron scripts, but they don't. In fact, the chron scripts themselves only run if you leave your machine active overnight. There are plenty of things that Apple could do, but doesn't. Why? Only they know.
But, the OP has an app that is not opening, and DU help states: "If you have trouble opening applications or documents, or if your computer is running slowly, the user permissions for some of your files may be set incorrectly. Permission problems sometimes happen after you update your system or install new software. With Disk Utility, you can repair these problems."
    Ewen wrote:
That's another matter, but you didn't actually suggest it first in topic. OP can easily test this by Verify permissions. Repair permissions probably won't hurt but I'd hate for a Mac user to start performing a troubleshooting step with little or no logical reasoning behind it.
No, why would I? S.U. suggested it, and the OP asked how to do it.
    Ewen wrote:
so if you answer every question with this as a suggested course of advice you will be right some of the time, but not all of the time.
Yes, and we all know a broken analog clock is accurate twice per day. But I don't advise this all of the time, most of the time, or even some of the time. Rarely would probably be the best descriptor.
    Ewen wrote:
I think its just a waste of time unless actually a permissions issue may be present. Permissions issues do crop up (and may explain OP issue) so if you answer every question with this as a suggested course of advice you will be right some of the time, but not all of the time.
I would argue that Verify Permissions is a waste of time, since if incorrect permissions are found, the next step is to Repair Permissions, right? So why not just Repair? You imply that somehow that Repair Permissions step will have negative consequences. What is your evidence for that?
    Ewen wrote:
I think its just a waste of time
If the only negative consequence to Repair Permissions is that it's "a waste of time," honestly, what's the harm? I think that anyone who has followed this thread down to this point now has a very good understanding of what "waste of time" really means!

  • MBP very hot and now battery is fried ?

To all the MBP experts out there......maybe you can help ?
    1. My MBP (46 months old) has been running VERY hot........that is, if you use it while putting it on your lap (bare skin contact), you'll get burned after a short while.
    2. My battery (only 1 year old, 170 cycles) is dying, and the MBP switches itself to sleep mode when the charge reaches about 40-50%. From full charge, it only takes about 30 minutes to reach 40-50%.
Here's the tricky one.......Coconut battery could say that max capacity is 55% one day, and 80% another day, and then 35% another day..........what's with the variability ??
    Help...........I'm confused.........time to get a new MBP ?

Since your Mac is fairly old, nearly 4 years, it is more then likely clogged with dust in the fan intake and exhaust area.
First thing to do is clean the dust out.
Second thing to do is take it to and Apple Genius Bar or AASP and have it checked for the Bad NVidia Graphic chip as your model is one of these.
    MacBook Pro: NVidia Failure
    Good Luck.

  • Sleep makes MBP very hot.

    10.4.11
Most times, it seems, when the MBP is put to sleep, it is very hot when I pick it up, later. anyone else experiencing this?

This has happened to me a couple of times too. According to my IStat widget, it's the CPU and CPU heat sink which are hot. The explanations in other replies that talk about some process hanging up seem the most logical. Another indicator is that upon wake-up from this scenario, a shutdown takes an unusually long time. Unfortunately when I came upon my computer in this state, I didn't think to run the IStat widget which would have told me what the CPU was doing.
Though this may be wrong (more learned advice welcome), I take some comfort in the fact that the temperatures, though hot, were within ranges told to me by folks on this same discussion forum as being tolerable -- roughly 60-70 degrees centigrade.

  • IPhoto slideshow is very very very slow after the latest software update

As the subject states, iPhoto slideshows are very slow: after clicking on the slideshow-button first nothing happens, after a while the screen goes black (that lasts about a minute or so) and the (finally) the slideshow starts. which is very annoying because it displays no options screen at first as it used to do, it just starts using very annoying standard music... quitting slideshow again to go to the options menu takes ages!! this problem started after the latest software update... way to go Apple...
    suggestions anyone?!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Well I haven’t seen this problem.
    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    2. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • 09 Unibody getting very hot since 10.6.4 update

    Hi.
I've recently updated my macbook (late 09 unibody) to 10.6.4, no problems working fine. However I've been noticing recently that the macbook has been getting very hot since the update. It's been reaching temperatures of 94C recently. It's never got that hot before and I'm not doing anything different either. It's been noticeably hotter whether it's been on the desk, on the laptop dock or on my lap.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    -Matt

    These fixes worked for me:
I downloaded and reapplied the combo updater.
I booted to safe mode, twice, and then went back to normal, and that combination has my macbook temp back down to normal levels. I also did some work on my iphone, definitely itunes was heating it up somehow.

  • MacBook Air late 2010 very hot after installing Mountain Lion? Can i back to Lion?

My MacBook Air, late 2010, is very hot and the vans are going too speedy after installing Mountain Lion. Can I deinstalling Mountain Lion and returno to Lion? What are the steps for this deinstallation? Thank you.

Technically, there is a way, but it is definitely not something I would recommend, as downgrading isn't usually supported/encouraged.
I found a website that has instructions but it clearly states it's not for the inexpert, so proceed at your own risk.  Also, I don't think you can download Lion from the AppStore anymore?

  • SMC update MBP very hot

I updated the 1.3 SMC firmware for more than a week and notice it getting really hot. For some reason in system profiler it says 1.27. That's not the problem I just want to know if there is a way to rev up the fan speed?
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.27f2
    Serial Number (system):
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled

.....and notice it getting really hot
Do you have a utility to read the actual temps? Sometimes what "feels hot" to us is within specs for an intel laptop. I like this Dashboard utility for temps:

  • MB won't run from battery after firmware 1.1 update

I know this post is similar to many others on this forum, but I have scoured the other entries and can't find one with my exact problem (or a solution). Sorry if this is a repeat.
My MB has worked fine since I bought it in July. After I installed the MacBook SMC Firmware Update v1.1, however, it randomly decided one day not to run off of the battery anymore. If I plug in the AC adapter, it will boot, run fine, and charge the battery (the menu indicates a 100% charge), but as soon as I unplug the AC adapter the entire system shuts off.
The problem is that I am living in China through July. After working at Apple for nearly 4 years, I was wise enough to purchase AppleCare ... but I can't exactly just hop in the car and take the machine to an Apple Store. Is there a solution for me? Because I'm traveling throughout China, my machine is essentially useless if it has to be plugged in. I'm going to be very upset if an Apple-recommended firmware update rendered my machine unusable.
All applications are up-to-date (OS 10.4.8, Build 8L2127, 2ghz Duo with 1gb RAM).
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have a the same problem, at the Apple genious bar a different battery did not work, so they sent my computer in to the subcontractors in Memphis. They kept it less than 10 hours and sent it back with a new battery. The new battery worked for about one month. The funny thing is I am not getting an x on my battery icon anymore. Coconut battery says it is a good battery and is fully charged. I calibrated the battery the first thing when I got the unit back. The system profiler says the battery is present and charged, if the battery should go down just from sitting still, the power adapter will recharge the battery. But, The computer will not run on the battery. If the power adapter is unplugged, which happens about 50 times a day because of the magnetic attachment, the machine turns off. I too developed the probem only after downloading the firmware update that apple said I needed. It is clear from these posts that there is a problem between the motherboard and the battery, and maybe a problem with the battery's calibration software. Judging from the varied responses users have gotten from Apple, and the complete silence about the problem on the Apple support site, it is also clear that Apple either doesn't know what the problem is and therefore can't fix it, or Apple is trying to turn a blind eye to the problem hoping it will go away. These posts have been viewed over 100,000 times, this is not a small problem!
