MBP wakes from sleep as soon as ac adapter is plugged in

My MBP recently wakes from sleep after this series of events:
1. Use MBP on battery power
2. Close lid
3. Sleeps (light pulses so apparently sleeping)
4. Plug in AC adapter (while the lid is still closed)
5. Wakes at that moment the adapter is plugged in (while the lid is still closed)
6. Sometimes the MBP recognizes the lid is indeed closed and then goes to sleep itself; other times, the MBP goes to sleep, then immediately wakes, then goes to sleep, then wakes, etc., repeatedly (this happens all while the lid is closed as if it's demented), until I open the lid, wake the system and then close the lid again. Then it will finally sleep.
"Wake on AC change" is set to No (see below). I was wondering if anyone knew how to set it to Yes. Maybe I just need to switch the setting back and forth once.
I can recreate the problem, so I can just take it to the Apple Store and let them figure it out (Applecare is still in effect), but I was just wanted to give it a shot here first.

You don't have the same problem, you have the 'I damaged my Mac by spilling water on it' problem.
it will probably fail.

Trashing noise when mbp wakes from sleep

oh now i've started posting i keep thinking of new things that don't seem right!
for the last few months i have noticed that when i wake my mbp up from sleep, it always makes a few strange noises much the same as when you empty the trash bin as it crunches stuff.
has anyone else had this and might know why its doing it - is it serious?
also, just going through my system profiler now to check some things - i have had the spinning ball again for quite some time which i hardly ever used to have.
when this starts happening, is it a sign of something serious with the machine and can i do anything?

However, i am sorry if i have caused any offence but I am terribly confused about how i might have offended anyone by my use of shortcut language - the only thing i can see I've done is use the macbook pro initials which isn't unusual on this forum as i can see and not capitalise some of my letters.

MBP Wake from Sleep - VRAM corruption

Just moved from G4 -> MBP. When the computer goes to sleep, ~20% of the time when I wake from sleep (opening the screen), I get a flurry of ASCII like characters that move across the screen forever, only cleared by a hard reboot (maybe a soft reboot if I could see the underlying graphics window, but I cannot).
Any thoughts... my guess is a bad graphics card, anyone else have this problem or have an idea?

I had a similar issue. Wake from sleep sometimes the computer would reload but the screen would simply not turn on...
Just had my MLB replaced for the whine issue and that issue appears to be gone as well...with the MLB, you get a new CPU and GPU as well.

MBP Wakes From Sleep With Lid Shut

My MacBook Pro (only about 1 1/2 months old) wakes from sleep while the lid is shut. I close the lid to put the computer in sleep mode and wait until it has fully entered sleep mode (the white light pulsates). If I then pick the computer up and rotate it some, more often than not it sounds as if the hard drive kicks back on and the apple logo on the top of the screen briefly illuminates. Sometimes I have even noticed that the screen will illuminate; however, the most consistent things I've noticed are the hard drive and logo. This is all while the lid is still closed.
I spent around 1 1/2 hours on the phone with Apple support yesterday with no result. I thought I would see if anyone has an explanation or idea here before I send the computer off to Apple.

And - I checked it just a minute ago - i works ! My MBP
goes to sleep when lid is shut and does NOT wake, when I
open the lid. After pressing a key, it comes to life again.

Library/Preferences/System Configuration Folder.
Is there only one file for Energy preferences or
did your system create another one, when you tried
to change settings via System Preferences ? I saw
this one time a few weeks ago, but I don't know
the exact conditions under which that happened.

Ext. hard drive ejects when MBP wakes from sleep

When I wake my MBP from sleep (by clicking the space bar), the ext. firewire hard (MyBook 500 GB) drive ejects leaving the msg. that it was not properly ejected and data might have been lost, etc. Is there a better way to wake it that won't cause the ext. hard drive to eject?

MBP wakes from sleep in bag, plus other issues?

So, I pulled my MBP out of my knapsack today and it was crazy hot, fan going at full speed; it had somehow woken in my bag. I have it in an isolated compartment; nothing would have been pressing against it. I'm kind of concerned that this could damage (or already have damaged or degraded) my computer and display. What's going on here?
Also, last week I opened my computer from sleep to find it rebooting. Could these issues be linked?

MBP wakes from sleep, TM backup fails

Since updating to 10.5.6, whenever I open my MBP, it immediately begins to try to do a Time Machine update to my Time Capsule. This quickly fails. If I look in System Preferences>Time Capsule, in addition to showing that the backup failed, it shows the next scheduled backup, which comes and goes with no backup. The NEXT backup will usually work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, guys. Here is a report log. I removed the gateway address numbers from the log since I am both paranoid and not especially computer savvy. Maybe this was unnecessary.
I have one possible theory of the crime. Months ago, I set up an action in Automator and put it into iCal as a plug-in scheduled to go off at 3 am everyday. It is an action to backup a bunch of files from my local iDisk to another file on my iMac. Now, when I sync by iCal, this plug-in gets synced to my other two computers, and every morning, when I wake them up, I get a little alarm telling me the action could not be completed on those computers. Well, of course, since it is set up to copy files from one place to another on ANOTHER computer. Couldn't figure a way around this, so just kept it, and would click OK on the alarm. Caused no problems for months, and may not be the culprit now. Just thought I'd mention it.
Again, this is not a major issue for me, this TM backup problem, as it does eventually backup. I appreciate whoever goes over this log below. You should really have some of your genes frozen or something for future generations.

MBP w/R glitchy wake from sleep.

When my late 2013 Retina MBP wakes from sleep I have this horrible glitchy screen flash up before asking me to enter my password as normal, it doesn't cause any problems, it just shouldn't happen. It doesnt' appear however if I close the lid, and open it back up within roughly 5 minutes, it must be left. I am running the latest general release of mavericks. Is anyone else experiencing this? If so any ideas as to the cause?

Try a SMC reset. It controls sleep/wake events among other things.

Is it normal to black out for 3 seconds on wake from sleep?

When my MBP wakes from sleep (usually from opening the lid), the wake from sleep sequences is pretty mystifying. At first I see my desktop screen, but then it goes black for 2 or 3 seconds, and then I can see my desktop screen again and start using the computer. Is this normal? If so, why is this?

I went into the Apple Store when this first started happening to my computer. They had just received a bulletin about it, calling it "safe sleep". It's supposed to keep the things you had on your desktop "safe" in case your battery gets low or something else happens to your computer. So it is "normal". I do find it annoying, however. It actually was happening less after I updated to 10.4.8, but I just did a firmware update (to Boot ROM MB11.0061.B03--check your system profiler) and now it occurs every time I put my computer to sleep for more than 1 minute. I do find it quite annoying, since I would rather have my computer "wake up" immediately when I open the lid (one of the usual bonuses of having a Mac). I noticed that someone said it could be turned off. I'll probably call Support and ask them, since I have AppleCare. I'll get back to you if I have any luck.
Also, remember to download all updates--it really does tend to fix problems that arise. Good Luck!

Connection Lost After Wake From Sleep

I am using a Macbook Pro and Linksys WRT150N W/L router. Every time my MBP wakes from sleep, I lose my internet connection. My menu bar still shows that I'm connected to the network, but I lose all connectivity. I cannot connect to internet or my router settings unless I do a complete restart. Network preferences shows connected to network but no connection to my router IP address under TCP/IP tab in the advanced settings. I also have a drop out of signal a few times an hour. My iMac DV does not experience the drop outs or connection loss at anytime. I have reset my router numerous times and used default factory settings all with the same results. Does anyone have an idea what the problem may be? Thanks.

I was always experiencing drop outs as far as what my signal was showing in my menu bar. It would drop out even if I was on top of my router. I had upgraded to 10.4.11 and the day after I did that, the problems started. I thought I might as well upgrade to 10.5 to see if that might help it. I think the 10.4.11 had done something to my W/L card and upgrading to 10.5 wouldn't have helped it unless I upgraded from 10.4.10 to 10.5, skipping 10.4.11 all together. I'm gonna bring my router and MBP into the genius bar and see what they can tell me about. Thanks for replying. I'm glad and sad to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing these symptoms.

MBA won't wake from sleep while connected to VGA Display

Since a few days I'm using a VGA Display connected through the official Apple Mini Displayport - VGA Adapter. However, when I put my MacBook Air to sleep and then close the lid (otherwise closing the lid will just continue on the display). Keeping the monitor attached, it won't wake from sleep anymore. Disconnecting the adapter at that moment won't make any difference. What troubleshooting steps can I make?

I usually...
Take out the charger
take out the battery pack
reinsert the battery pack
Then click the power switch
(if you have low battery I'm sure it would be a good idea to plug in the adapter again

Macbook won't wake from sleep - replaced logic board and batteries already

I have a 13" White Macbook on 10.5.5 that occasionally won't wake from sleep. This will happen with nothing plugged into the Macbook except for the AC adapter. I have done the firmware upgrade, reset the SMC, reinstalled Leopard from the DVDs twice, brought it into Genius and had the ram, sleep switch, and the logic board replaced. There are no bluetooth devices attached to the computer.
I've searched the forums but haven't found a definitive answer yet.

I've experienced the problem as well. I have the new aluminum macbook with all factory specs and no mods, except that I changed it from smart sleep to the original old mac behavior of instant sleep. It is intermittant and with mine, I've noticed that when the screen is open, the computer appears to be completely off, but when I close the computer the light on the front of the computer comes on. The only resolution I've found so far is to hold the power button for 5 seconds for a hard power down and then push it again--everything works fine.
There is indeed a sudden drop sensor, and in fact, it did happen after I accidentally hit the corner of my mac once on a tv while trying to set it down. That could be the answer...we might have to try disabling that because quite honestly, if I drop my mac while its on, I'm going to be more worried about the screen, the case, even the cute little plastic apple than the hard drive (I have backups galore).

No wake from sleep mode MBP later 2011

On my MBP late 2011 build, with OSX Lion Preinstalled. I upgraded to Mountain lion recently, and all went smooth until I closed the lid to put it too sleep. When I returned, opened the lid, it would not wake from sleep. I have to force shutdown and then boot up. This happpens regardless of on or off hte AC adapter. I have already lost some data from this problem. From the online forums I have seen others with this issues, but have found no resolution. Please HELP!

Well after calling Apple support, they determined it was some sort of software issue., so then i took it to the university tech depot and the tech did all the things i tried (SMC reset, reupdate, etc) and a few other resets (not exaclty sure what he did), but nothing seemed to work.
However, this morning, miraculously, it started working (sleep mode that is). I an not sure still what exactly is going on, but its working for now.

Mbp randomly wakes from sleep

For some reason, my mbp SR 2.2ghz stock model randomly wakes from sleep for no reason roughly 20 minutes after I put it to sleep. I am about 10 feet from the computer and do not touch it. Auto wake from bluetooth is off. I reset the video ram, ran onyx, and tried everything i could think of. Nothing is plugged in. No programs are running. How do I fix this?

… and return the results. There might well be an issue within Mac OS X and or the hardware which needs identifying and this will help Apple identify/comfirm their suspicions.
By the way, if you use a password to wake your MBP from sleep you will need to disable it so your MBP won't go back to sleep.
