MBP wakes up after unpluging MagSafe

I recently upgraded from my 2010 15" MBP to a 2012 15" MBP (Non-Retina) and I noticed a bit different bahavior. I close the lid with the MagSafe still connected, wait for it to go to sleep, disconnect the MagSafe and the MBP wakes up for a few seconds with the lid closed and then goes to sleep again.
On the old machine, I used to do it tha same way but it never woke up after disconnecting the MagSafe. I sually do it this way right before I put it in my bag and I am afraid I could damage the HDD if it wakes but during manipulation.
Is there a way to set this behavior to match the old machine or do I just have to get used to disconnecting the MagSafe before closing the lid? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • MBP wakes up after being put to sleep

Several times the MBP wakes up after it was put to sleep, the battery runs down and it overheats inside the bag. I don't have any idea what wakes the computer, could it be the motion sensor? What can be done?

My wife's MBP started doing this after upgrading to Snow Leopard. So, after six weeks of hearing her complain of it when she forgot to close the lid, (I realize it still wakes up with the lid down, but since she only unplugs it when she uses it, that hasn't been an issue.) she finally let me look at it. I found using her System Monitor that the active app was Dashboard. When I told her, she said "I haven't run that for months, that couldn't be it." But, persisting, I opened Dashboard to find that she had a clock that kept local time. With her permission, I killed the clock and her MBP hasn't woken up on it's own since.
So, try running System Monitor to find out what's running after it wakes up.

  • SR MBP Wakes immediately after being put to sleep

    Background:
I've recently been experiencing consistent random sleep failures with my Santa Rosa Macbook Pro. Whether I sleep via the apple menu, or close the lid, the MBP goes through its sleep procedure, then the split second that the MBP latch light begins to breathe, the DVD-drives makes its 'wake up' sound and the MBP powers back on.
Initially I thought my problem was related to an application. Firefox and MSN messenger seemed to consistently cause the problem. Then I found that it can still occur with neither open. It 'seems' that if I turn off my airport immediately prior to sleeping, the MBP will sleep without problems. Sometimes if I turn it off, then immediately turn it back on and sleep, the MBP will sleep okay. This doesn't seem to work consistently.
I had also thought this might have something to do with my airdisk since it's been suffering the (well-documented at this point) problem where airdisks start giving "Unknown user, login [...]" errors. This doesn't seem to be the case though since the problem still occurs if I disable the airdisk agent and don't mount any drives.
NOTE: This doesn't seem to happen with my GF's MBP. It too is a 2.2GHz Santa Rosa machine on the same AEBS network.
    *System Details*:
    - Santa Rosa 2.2Ghz Stock Macbook Pro
    - OSX 10.4.10, all updates installed including airport updates
    - Gigabit Airport Extreme with Seagate FreeAgent Pro Airdisk attached via USB
    Observations:
In my logs below, it seems that a successful sleep does NOT show the following lines in the system log. This might be related to having turned off the airport in order to get a successful sleep:

I have had the same problem you described for the past week. Very frustrating, also very dangerous. I got in from work today and my mbp had turned itself on with the lid closed, it was absolutely roasting hot, must have gone close to cooking it. Mine seems to be worse when its on power, did you guys notice any difference on power or battery?

  • Windows can't wake up after closing the lid of a MBP?

My Windows XP can't wake up after I close the lid of my MBP. When I open the lid, the screen is black and the latch light is out.

I cannot solve your problem but I did have the same problem which has now evolved into my computer NEVER going to sleep and my bluetooth does not work I have tried all the advice I can find and nothing works. Of course my waranty expired four months ago so now I will have to come up with the money to fix it if I want this resovled. If your warenty is still good I suggest having someone look at it before it evloves into a bigger problem.

  • Slow wi-Fi internet connections and drop outs after MBP wakes up

    Hello,
I have the new MBP 17 and recurring issues with the Aiport/Internet connections with my TC 500 Dual Band:
After the MBP wakes from sleep mode, I have recurring drop outs with regard to my internet connection. Airport connection shows me the full 4 bars and tells me I am connected, but Safari loads internet pages to no avail. I then usually deactivate my airport for 5 seconds, then reactivate it. The connection usually is better after that, but I do still have drop out issues every so often.
    Anyone experiencing the same problem?
Would resetting SMC have any effect on this?
    Thanks

I've had a similar problem at home - it's been exasperating.
It appears to be not just one thing but a collection of things causing the problems. The recent firmware update combined with driver updates in 10.5.6+ is one thing, but also there are some keychain issues, waking from sleep issues and interference issues.
When the MBP firmware was updated (10.5.6 / 10.5.7) I can't be sure exactly I noticed that my wi-fi signal was effected much more by interference. I'm using b/g as I have iPhones on the same network as my MBP at home. I ruled out router issues by testing with various other machines (Macs and PC's) - and on different wi-fi networks (my office).
The other machines didn't suffer the same problems at home and my machine did suffer the same problem at work,
I have a feeling that the driver / firmware update combined with several Airport Passwords (for the same network) appearing in your keychain conspired together to create the issue. When the Airport Signal dropped below a certain strength (by sleeping or by moving to another room) and there is a lot of interference from other wi-fi networks - your machine fails to reconnect correctly to your wi-fi network.
Often your network doesn't even show up in the available network lists. When it does - the keychain issue appears to cause a network timeout when re-connecting and therefore the connection fails and you get stuck in an annoying loop.
Moving my MBP close to the wi-fi router causes is to re-connect - which is why I believe it is related to signal strength. Also using a n only network rather than b/g helps considerably (n suffers from less interference). This however is not a fix as I have an iphone (which requires b/g) and I like to use my MBP more than 3 meters away from my wi-fi router.
Also on identical machines in my office (10.5.6 and 10.5.7) I didn't have the problem. The only real difference was those machines didn't sync with .mac and share the same keychain. Further more testing some of those machines on my home network they had no problems.
I tried loads and loads of things to fix this. In the end it wasn't one thing that did it, but a whole series of them.
1 - Delete all your Airport Passwords from your keychain.
2 - Ensure that if you are using .mac syncing you replace the .mac keychain from your current machine.
3 - Trash all your network preferences (including network interfaces and remembered networks)
    4 - Zap your PRAM
    5 - Resent your SMC
    6 - Re-connect to your wi-fi network
And that appears to have worked for me. So far anyway.

  • Hp envenvy won't wake up after windows 10 upgrade

Hello, I have an hp envy and after I upgraded to windows 10, my laptop doesn't want to wake up after it goes to sleep, so i have no other option but to do a force restart.   I read on another forum that I could try troubleshooting the power and it seemed to work for a while, but the problem continues.   Does anyone know what I can do?  Thank you!!

Same story here. Late 2008 Macbook Pro, no problems with sleep until now.
My setup: MBP connected to external monitor via mini Displayport->HDMI, with USB hub connected to mouse, keyboard, and external hard drive.
Since the 10.8.2 update, whether I put it to sleep manually or let it go to sleep on its own, when I come back the fans are running, the screen is black, and it doesn't respond to any keyboard or mouse commands. When it's awake I generally have the fans set to 4500 rpm using smcFanControl, and when it's locked up like this, they're running slower than that but faster than the quiet 2000 rpm default.
I have tried disconnecting the monitor and USB hub, and the problem persists.

  • Sleeping PC wakes immediately after sleeping

    Hi guys,
I have the bonjour SDK installed and have enabled wake for network access in the control panel, and it seems to be registering all of my services on my airport express correctly.
My issue seems to be, that sometimes, not all the time, the PC wakes immediately after going to sleep.
Obviously this is a pain as I want the PC to stay sleeping as much as possible to save on power.
I have checked that I have no active connections to any services running on the PC, currently only windows file sharing, itunes sharing, and Plex media sharing are showing up as services.
Is it likely that Bonjour is causing the PC to wake, or is it perhaps something else?
    Thanks

  • MBP black Screen after Sleep Mode

My MBP goes to sleep but I get a black screen and it won't wake up after pressing keys or mouse. The only way to wake it up is to hold the power button down and restart. The white indicator light stays on and it sounds as if the computer is running, but nothing will wake it up. Can anyone help?

I have the same problem. It doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes when I open my computer after it has been sleeping, the screen will not come on. The only way to fix it is to either hard boot it, or press the power button, then enter, then press the power button again after a bit. The latter tells me that the computer wakes up, just not the screen as I can correctly shut down the computer with key strokes. Mine is an Early 2008 (non unibody) MBP.

  • MBP wakes up at 3.00 am every night then goes to black sleep

I've got this strange behavior on my MBP: every night, at 3.00 am it wakes up.
    Console reports:
24/5/2008 3:00:03 AM kernel System Wake
    Then, after half a minute:
24/5/2008 3:00:34 AM ScreenSaverEngine[632] Screen saver is running in blackout mode.
When I wake at 6.00am I see it on, not in sleep mode, only the screen is a strange backlit black. I touch any key, the login screen comes up, I type my password, then put it to sleep.
What gives? Does this serve a purpose that escapes me? Can I change it?
    Thanks, people.

Right, people, the good news first: Zhiblin's suggestion seems spot-on, as when I delete the .plist file and Shutdown the MacBook Pro having set it clock to 2:59:00 am, it doesn't seem to auto-turn on again. I waited for a minute after shutdown to make sure it didn't.
The bad news: if I go into System Preferences, Energy Saver, Schedule, then check and immediately uncheck (i.e. as if I didn't make any change whatsoever) the Wake/Sleep checkboxes (either of them or both) then OK out of the dialog, then set the clock once again to 2:59:00 am and shutdown, sure enough the MacBook Pro will turn itself on (wrong behavior, as I didn't instruct it to; I checked and then unchecked, remember?) within a few seconds.
Moral of the story: until Apple fix this bug (can anyone tell if this is fixed in 10.5.3, by the way?) if you don't want it to happen, stay out of the Schedule pane of Energy Saver. Or, if you're already there, then touch nothing. Cancel out, not OK out of it.
Or, of course, if you have OKed out of it, then go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ and delete "com.apple.AutoWake.plist"
Which of course negates the value of the "Schedule" feature of OS X. Until Apple kills the bug.
    Thanks for the tip, Zhiblin!

  • Mac pro won't wake up after installing Mountain Lion

After installing Mountain Lion in my Mac Pro it won't wake up after long periods of sleep. I have tried unplugging it for 15 seconds and plugging it back in and starting it back up. No help. I've reset the Pram with no change.
    Chuck

Two calls into tech support, but I think they may have helped me fix this.
    CHECK:
    \Library\LaunchAgents
    \Library\LaunchDaemons
    \Library\StartupItems
remove any third party software and set aside.  (they told me I could keep some adobe, microsoft and HP items)
    THEN CHECK:
System Preferences --> Users + Groups -->Login Items
remove any third party stuff from in there.
I'll know tomorrow morning if this REALLY works, but it dfefinitely allowed my computer to sleep and wakeup over a short period of time.

  • I am having an issue waking my late 2007 MBP from hibernation after update to 10.8

I am having an issue waking my late 2007 MBP from hibernation after I updated to OSX 10.8 Mountain lion. Anything I can do to fix this? I cannot keep doing a hard reset.

for people with this problem in the future. I ended up solving this by taking out and reinserting the RAM. I had previously bought RAM from crucial.com and I thought it may have been a compatibility issue with that. After taking out the RAM and reinserting I have not had the problem. Be sure to insert the RAM with force, almost to the point it hurts. I think the problem for the MAC not waking from sleep was due to the RAM not properly inserted or being jarred out over time and not related to the instal of 10.8. also, if you are no longer under applecare and you call apple with an issue you get retards.
    cool. thanks. <3

  • Quicksilver doesn't wake up after sleep

Recently (over the past month or so) my Quicksilver G4/733 has developed a problem where it sometimes (about 20% of the time) will not wake up after going to sleep. Tapping on the keyboard to wake up, for example, results in no reaction from the computer other than my FireWire DVD burner clicking a few times. Using the power button to wake up causes the button to glow and fade out with no other reaction from the computer (except the FireWire drive).
To get the computer to start up again, I cut the power for about a minute (usually by turning off my power strip) and then attempt to start up. If I only cut power for a few seconds, the computer exhibits the same unresponsive behavior.
I have not upgraded my hardware or system (other than automatic Software Update) or installed any applications in the past few months.
Thanks in advance for your help.

If your Mac happily goes to sleep but won't wake up--Hold down the power switch to force-reboot your machine and get it running again.
Don't worry-your Mac isn't narcoleptic. Its Open Firmware system or NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is likely corrupt, and your Mac can't remember how to wake up.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Command-Option-O-F key combo until you see a somewhat intimidating command-line display that ends with the Open Fimware prompt. Type the following line:
    reset-all
    press Return
Your Mac will reboot. Once it's running, put it back to sleep to test. If the problem recurs your Energy Saver preferences may be the culprit. Delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file (go to Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration)--don't worry, your Mac will regenerate a new one--and then restart to see if that rights the wrong.
Still did'nt work? Might be time to call AppleCare or see an Apple Genius or a technician.
    Cheers!

  • Memory RAM upgrade won't wake up after sleep mode

i just recently purchase a pair  16GB RAM of crucial  CT2K8G3S160BM for newegg.com. Yeesterday i try put this on my macbook i7 intel 2.9 processor that crucial said is compatible. but found out everything was good until i close my mac lid for hibernate. What happen is, it won't wake up no matter what i do until a way of reset SMC. BTW i try stick by stick to plug in together with my original 4gb RAM together found out 1 was ok and other one was not. But somehow why the info of hardware show that memory ram 16GB was installed and was OK. Everything was run smooth even booting. The only problem is won't wake up after sleep mode. I already try reset smc, pram, delete startimage, delete powermanagement.file and also sudo hibernate 0-7. Did anyone had this same issue of me. I'm my curiousity will it be the bad ram or software problem.

i just google around and found this two both crucial ram. Both spec are the same but different model no.
CT102464BF160B 16GB  and mine is CT2K8G3S160BM are this 2 same? but both same spec.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Notebook fails to wake up after second suspend

With kernel 2.6.26, my Toshiba notebook rebooted when suspending/hibernating. With kernel 2.6.27, the first time I suspend works flawlessly, but it fails to wake up after a second suspend. I can hear the hard drive start up (it doesn't sound like it's being read, though), but the screen remains off and the computer doesn't respond to any keystrokes.
I've looked through my logs, but haven't found any differences between the first and second suspend process, and nothing of note from the first wake-up.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? I can paste some logs, notebook info, etc. if requested, but I'm not entirely sure what would be helpful in this process.

My "nearest" local Apple Store is almost 40 km far from where I live...It's clearly a softwere problem and yes, It's not new for Apple. I hope they consider this annoying problem and fix it as soon as possible. I also noticed that doing a "Verify Disk" via Disk Utility an error accours by checking the free space of the HDD. It's suggested to repair the disk immediatly (bold red alarm pops out ) rebooting the system and using the tools under the CMD-R startup. By the way, ignoring the problem and by just verify the disk again, the error maigcally disapper into the void...that's weird !
I hope somethings will come out, I'm really, really annoyed by this problem and i don't want to run in some data loss or HDD failure because i really need my Mac for work (as, i think, most of us )!
