MBP will completely reset itself when the battery dies

My MBP will completely reset itself (date, time, internet passwords, network passwords, etc..) when the battery dies. So i assume the reset is due to the lack of holding a battery charge.
Here are the stats:

The symptom you describe usually occurs when the battery is disconnected.  Since your Battery Hardware display indicates that your battery condition is 'Check Battery", that probably is the culprit.  I would think that a new battery should solve the issue.  Bring you MBP to an Apple store genius bar.

  • Macbook resetting itself when the battery dies.

Hi all I am really hoping someone can shed some light on what’s happening to my Looney MacBook.
About two days ago I forgot to put it on charge when the battery was on 3% and it shut down, so I turned it back on when I had connected it to the power like normal and expected all to be okay. The computer had completely reset itself, time, date, Internet passwords, background everything. I put everything back to how it should and tried to connect to Facebook. The webpage was just the raw webpage, without its style sheet (is the only way I can describe it). So I was like okay that’s weird, and normally after a few refreshes it goes back to normal but it didn’t. It wasn’t because the Internet connection was slow either.
The next day it was still the same, deleted the cache reset everything on safari and restarted which seemed to fix it. I have just let the battery run down again (bad I know) and it did it all over again.
So I am turning to here to figure out what is going on! I hope it can be fixed, as I love my mac too much!
    Appreciate any help!
    Thanks

If you love your Mac, stop running its battery down the the point that it shuts off.

  • I use my 7th gen ipod on bluetooth and when the battery dies while on bluetooth it wont turn on or charge and the computer doesnt find it.  This is my 2nd nano in just over a month.  The first one had the same problem.  how can i fix this?

I have the latest ipod nano (7th gen, 16gb) and I use it mostly on bluetooth. When the battery dies during use with the Bluetooth it doesn't take a charge, the battery doesn't turn on and of course the computer doesn't even acknowledge that it's plugged in. This is my second nano in just over a month, the same thing happen with the first one. I just want to know if their is a way to fix this so I don't have to keep sending it in? Or maybe pay the difference to upgrade to a touch?

If the battery has been completely depleted on the Nano (not really a good idea) then it is going to take 15 to 30 minutes before your computer can see it. Same thing will happen with an iPod Touch.

  • Time and date need to be reset when the battery dies

Any help on fixing this issue? Computer gives the warning that the power is running low, then turns off with 6% battery left. When I power it up the system needs to reboot completely and each time the date and time need to be reset.. Why is this?

That battery is relatively healthy, say relatively due to the high cycle count, the number of full charge cycles it has had.  The lower capacity simply reflects the high number of charge cycles and is not an issue, only a measure of how long the MacBook will work when running on battery power.  The voltage is right where it should be for a MacBook, in the range of 11.5 to 12.5 volts...12.3 volts is a strong battery.
Now to the auto-shutdown for lack of a better term - that sounds a lot like something loose inside the MacBook that when jarred shorts/shutsdown the sytem with a loss of basic information.  You could try things like an SMC reseet or PRAM reset but I seriously doubt they would have any affect.  Best option would be a visit to an Apple store genius bar to have the techs run some diagnostics to see if they can identify something going wrong inside.
Hope this helps and you can find resolution...auto shutdowns of this type are not really good for the system.

  • I changed my battery for my Iphone 4s today and everytime I put it on charge it reboots itself when the battery goes up

I'm not sure what do do, everytime the battery goes up my phone reboots itself, im not sure if its to do with my battery or the new charger or just my phone?

Check the USB port and the USB cable for any kind of lint, debris or bent pins.
    Try another, working USB cable.
If still no luck, get it checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or contact Apple Support to get it serviced:

  • I just got my MBP 6 days ago. When the battery is 100%, it says that the remaining time is only about 5 hours. Isn't it supposed to be higher?

I'm just wondering if my computer is defective? The battery life should be 9 hours, and it's not like I have a thousand apps open or anything.

Not quite.  Please read the 'fine print', the operative words being 'up to'.  Then if you read the criteria used to achieve that level you will find the the least CPU/GPU intensive application was used with nothing else open.
Furthermore, that time estimate is not very reliable since it reflects what is occurring at that given moment.  That can be very volatile and can be observed by opening and watching Activity Monitor.  I suggest you use the % option.

  • Very secure BB Curve 8320 - wipes itself if the battery dies or is removed

I seem to have purchased an interesting BB last year. If I let the battery die or even remove it from the BB I then lose everything and have to reload the OS and restore my last backup. This has become very painful as I have acquired some apps I like and I hate to keep reinstalling them.
    T-Mobile BB Curve Titanium 8320
    v4.5.0.81 (platform 2.7.0.78
This occurs even with a fresh install of the default apps.
Pulling the battery requires a new install of the OS
BT doesn't matter as this occurs even with a fresh install with nothing else having been done to the device but pull the battery or let it die.
doesn't matter if the SIM is in or not
doesn't matter if the microSD card is in or not
    Replicate:
when the device is completely wiped and there is no OS, and the light flashes RED (5 times?)
reinstall the OS, accept the defaults
when completed then pull the battery
    screen goes black
    put battery back in
    begin loop
    screen remains black
    LED flashes RED (5 times?)
    screen remains black
    return
    end loop
rinse and repeat until you are tired of this game
anyone else have this issue or am I the only one with this advanced security feature?

I don't understand how this is any advanced security feature. Seems more like a problem.
I would recommend you upgrade the device to the latest 8320 OS release, the one you're using is quite out of date.
    1. Do a complete backup of the device if you can, using Desktop Manager.
    2. Wipe the device first (options > security > general settings > menu key > wipe handheld).
    3. upgrade. See the instructions in the link below for download link and instructions.

  • When the battery dies.

Just curious. When the ipod battery eventually dies, is it still possible for the ipod to work if it is connected to a speaker dock? I have three speaker docks in my home(Klipsch Igroove, Logitech Pure-Fi Elite and an iluv boom box)and I'm just curious. I bought my 30GB 5.5 ipod video in Sept. '06 and the battery is still great, I'm just wondering. Does anybody know the answer?
    Thanks,
    Reggie

the batteries last about two and a half years. it might work, i know that you cant sync or anything without a charge on your ipod because your computer wont recoginize it with out a decent charge. but i bet it would play if you were running it of a speaker dock.

  • MBP shuts off by itself when battery is low

Just recently my MBP has started to shut itself off within 10 seconds of displaying the low battery warning. It's as if someone took the battery out of the computer. I can start up the computer fine after I plug it in, and once charged the battery will power the laptop just fine until it gets low again. The problem repeats itself when the battery gets low again. I've been on 10.5.3 less than a few days, and before I made the update I never had this problem. Any ideas as to what's causing this?

Try this: Shut down your computer, take out the battery and power cord and pres the power button for about 10 seconds. After that, reseat the battery (and power cord if necessary) and turn on the computer whilst holding down Command-Option-P-R. Wait until you hear the startup chime AT LEAST once after the initial chime. What you just did is a reset of SMC and pram.
After that calibrate the battery by fully charging it, use the computer on power supply for at least 2 hours. Then unplug it and use it off battery power until it completely runs down. Let it stand for at least 5 hours and plug it back in.
    Hope this helps

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem likely caused by the water.

    KarnPS,
start recharging your battery when it gets down to 20% — you’ll shorten your battery’s lifespan by running on battery power beyond that.
