MBP will not accept CD media, but plays DVDs fine...

My Macbook Pro 17" (late 2008) will not accept any type of CD media, but will accept DVDs and plays DVD movies fine.
Store-bought music CDs, CD-Rs & RWs I burned myself from iTunes, data CDs -- all simply eject shortly after insertion. I have tried using a laser lens cleaner (SkipDr, with cleaning brushes on the disc) but no luck.
I see I'm not alone. Posted this in another thread earlier this week, and many others having the same problem. We all started having this problem at roughly the same time... Late May or so.
Anyone have a clue what's up with this? Hoping for an OS patch or firmware fix, rather than a "buy a new drive" fix, natch!

To be clear, are you talking about accounts set up in Apple's Mail application?

HP 7280 all-in-one says ink cartridges are empty and will not print from PC, but it copies fine.

Replaced 2 ink cartridges in hp 7280 but still says both cartridges are empty and will not print from PC, but it will copy fine. When I try to print I get a error box that says "Ink cartridges empty - replace black and yellow ink cartridges to continue." They are brand new - just bought them - expiration date Sep 2015. Have tried rebooting and disconnecting and reconnecting everything. Same error, but it still will do color copies fine - all cartridges are working. Help?!

I understand you have a Photosmart C7280 that you are unable to print to from your computer. I'm sorry to hear about this, but I will certainly do my best to assist you in resolving this issue.
Before I can offer any suggestions I do need to know which version of Windows or Mac that you're using and how the printer is connected (wireless or USB). Once I have that information I should be able to help you better. In the meantime, if you're using Windows, please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor to see if it can assist with the issue at hand

I formatted my Ipod on windows several months ago. A week later, I bought a mac and have been using my ipod on mac ever since. Yesterday, I bought a video from the itunes store, and in order to play it, I tunes told me that i needed to update my I tunes from 6.0 to 7.0. So I did that...NOW, when I tried to copy the video to my ipod, I still could not copy to ipod.., I got a dialogue box telling me that my ipod software was too old and I needed to update it. my ipod software from 1.1 to 1.1.2. Luckily i had access to a windows computer. In the windows computer under ipod preferences, the ipod software read UP to Date after installing the 1.1.2 software. So now i bring back my ipod to my good old mac, and under Summary, ipod, my ipod version reads 1.1.2. and under Version, the update box is greyed out, and on the left side it reads ONLY MACINTOSH FORMATTED IPODS CAN BE UPDATED..
So i try to copy my purchased video from itunes music store, and I STILL GET A MESSAGE SAYING that "the item in the itunes music library was not copied to the ipod becaus you ipod softwar is too old!!!! go to the summary tab in ipod preferences and clikck update to get the latest ipod software update.
WHY>!??? I have the most updated version, and besides , i dont get an option to update software on my mac,,,,,but why would i need to in either case, if i have the latest software. Please help. I have spent my entire saturday troubleshooting this with no luck. I appreciate it. please.

When I updated to 1.1.2 my ipod software said it was up to date. I guess I did not see an option to update from ITunes 7.0., and no where on the apple site did i see a 1.2 version. (I guess thats what you meant when you say that they have done away with the ipod updater)
Does it make a difference that I update using a Windows computer using itunes 7.0 and then play my video on my mac. (I would guess that as long as the ipod software is 1.2 i'd be ok right?) This is where I am confused because right after updating to 1.1.2, i took my ipod and connected it to my mac and under ipod preferences, it did read 1.1.2
I am trying to avoid reformatting my ipod to mac since I have over 6,000 music tunes and videos which took me months to load.

I recently purchased a MBP and did used Migration Assistant from my old MBP. Everything has worked fine except for Mail. Mail will launch and ask me to add accounts. I add an iCloud account and nothing happens, Mail does nothing and when I go to quit it won't, preferences is greyed out, and I have to force quit Mail. Internet accounts are in order. I even went so far as deleting them all and adding them all back in. Launch Mail and nothing is there.
I then did an internet recovery and installed 10.9. Same issue persists.
I took a chance and bought Airmail from the AppStore and it works perfectly. I know I can just use that but its bothering me that Mail does not work on my brand new MBP.
OSX wont let me delete Mail to try and reinstall.
Thoughts? I really dont want to wipe the disk and start from scratch.

Thanks, turns out I got a virus somehow. BWContextHandler32.exe is reporting itself to my firewall as the game BulletStorm, which I do not have, and somehow attached itself to Firefox and probably IE as well. I figured it was bogus so I blocked it. Still not sure why it just started blocking Firefox. I was denying access to it for a couple days, darn procrastination, and Firefox was working fine. Now I just have to get rid of it...I really hate windows sometimes...

Yet internet in general works fine. This happened after an upgrade, but I can't remember what was updated because I went on a holliday right after the update. I have a kernel oss linkage error at boot, but don't know if this has anything to do with it. Is there any thing I could paste to help solve the matter?

Not quite, if you have anything in /etc/modprobe.conf you still want to be read it should be moved into /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf, and anything that's already in modprobe.d/ should get renamed so it's called *.conf

TB in Kubuntu will not allow deleting messages but it works fine Windows 7

Dual boot Windows 7 Home Premium and Kubuntu 13.10 64 bit. Hdwe i7-3770k, Radon 7950, 16GB memory and Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe MB Hwde installed for about 1 year with no problems. Formatted HD and did clean install of 13.10 64 bit. Previous Ububtu 12.04 64 bit worked fine. Can not delete any messages in TB. Click Delete and the color of the message changes but does not delete in TB. Checked carrier email server and messages I tried to delete in TB were still there. Can delete messages on carrier server and in TB in windows.
Any ideas on how to fix or reconfigure?

I am having ongoing connection problems with the Clash of Clans app which means that I lose battles, resources or boost times. This results in a loss of gems which I have purchased but will not be refunded as they will not accept responsibility.

Whilst playing Clash of Clans I will continually lose the internet connection. This means that I lose battles, resources, gold etc and lose boost times. I have informed Supercell who blame my internet connection even though the iPhone, laptop and TV all work fine so it is obviously a technical problem with their game and probably something to do with their last updates.
As I have purchased gems I feel that I should be compensated for my loss but they will not accept responsibility nor investigate the technical issue. The loss of connection occurs constantly with the game often freezing during replays or searching for battles. This is obviously not a connection issue.
What suggestions do you have to resolve this situation?

Thanks for the reply. I asked because I also wanted to see if others had encountered the same problem.
I have no problems with my internet connection as I run my TV, laptop and iPhone off the same connection with no problems. I believe that since the recent updates to the game this has caused the problem. The game often freezes, cancels out or returns me to the main game screen during battles or replays.
What I want to know is how do I get the game designers or owners to acknowledge my problem as at this time they keep telling me it is my internet that is a problem and not their game. How do they know this when they refuse to investigate. What can I do and who do I go to for support if they won't accept responsibility?
I am very grateful to you for replying but concerned that if this can happen to me then how many other gamers are losing out and paying for something that they are not going to receive.

If the messages says that it is a valid Apple ID but not an iCloud ID, it's becaure you are trying to create an iCloud account on a PC. You can only create the account on an iOS device or Mac (running Lion or Mountain Lion). After creating the account, you can then sign in with the ID on your PC, but you can't create the account on a PC.

You said, "the 4 also has signal and wifi whereas the 5 has only wifi". By "signal", I'm assuing that you mean cellular signal. If so, that means your iPhone 4 is still active on your cellular number and your iPhone 5 is not. Contact your carrier to sort out which phone is active on your account.

If you have purchased an Acrobat XI upgrade you will be prompted to enter the Acrobat XI serial number first then the serial number for the prior version.
Which serial number isn't being accepted? Please provide more details and send me a private message with both serial numbers so I can check further.

WorldMate loads, but will not accept WLAN

My Nokia E71-2 without a SIM will load WorldMate and ask for city and country and accept it, but will not accept my WLAN connections at home. My home WLAN works fine for all other E71 applications. WorldMate is loaded in the add on memory card. Phone has 200.21.118 and is RM-357. Thanks for any input.

At startup, you have to give an e-mail address, name and the city you live in. but I haven't seen anything about a password. I'm getting old, maybe I'm missing something ( in my head).

I'm also getting the "invalid serial number", but I'm wanting to upgrade my 5.1 to 5.1.4 to take advantage of HDV 720p/24 support. Is the 5.1.4 update even an option still? I really don't want to be forced to upgrade to FCS2 and shell out $500, just to get this one feature that was included in a patch.
I went to the Registration page and it actually allowed me to register the serial number... (which I'm pretty sure I already had), but it still won't let me in to download any updates. Also, the email confirmation that was supposed to be sent has not arrived 20+ minutes later.
Very strange. I called Apple support and they estimated a wait time of 15 mins... ugh.
