MBP with Lion 10.7.3 crashes on sleep...
There is exactly one year plus 4 days I bought my MBP and this issue started a few weeks ago but now it's impossible to keeping working and trust on it.
It stopped to work exactly 4 days after the warranties finished
When I put it to sleep and try to take it back, it just blink the power led, make a disk noise (like trying to start) and never come back.
I always have to wait a lot of time, sometimes hours, even if I press Ctrl+Command+Power to clearing a possible system failure, it's getting worse, exactly after support expiration period.
The last solution was to open it, remove memories and take it back. After doing that, it gets back!
I tried a lot of communities solutions but I think it's a hardware failure, probably memories.
I can't trust on it anymore, not forgetting all the mount issues where mac always unmount external drives while in use.
There are no crash log, all I have is this:

MBP with Lion, have Hardware test fault number: 4sns/1/40000000:ibor-9.166. CPU usage above 300% by kernel task. Runs good in safe mode?
Started when spilled liquid was discovered and cleaned. So expect this to have caused the issue. MBP works again, but very slow.
Any ideas? Logic board to be replaced maybe? There is a bad sensor inside your MBP. That may only be the start of your problems. Bring it to a repair facility as fast as possible. Do not use the MBP and DO NOT put rice in it.
Baptisms are often the death knell for a MBP. Be prepared for a very substantial repair bill or contemplate a new purchase. I may be wrong with my bad news, and I hope so, but based on other experience, the odds are not in your favor.

Bought late 2011 MBP 17" with Bootcamp partition (Windows 7 Ultimate) and Lion OS 10.7.3
I am trying to make a backup of Bootcamp partition before I start using my laptop but it proves to be a difficult task.
I don’t have any installation disk for Windows 7 and I am afraid that, if a disaster strikes and I loose the HDD, my copy of Windows will be gone.
The only way to restore Windows partition according to what I read so far is to do the following:
• Use Windows to backup data from BootCamp Partition
• Reinstall OS Lion formatting full hard drive in the process
• Use BootCamp Assistant to create BootCamp partition
• Install Windows 7 on bootcamp partion
• Use Windows 7 to restore data from backup file created in the first step
The only problem is that I don't any image or disk to re-install Windows 7. With Windows 7 I can create only 'repair disk' (for what it is worth) or system image but according to other users it would format the whole drive including OS Lion partition when reinstalling
Winclone 3.2 seems like the answer to my prayers but would like to hear from the users if it worked for them (most imprtantly, did the restore work?).Got the response from Winclone regarding my confusion in step 18 of the procedure to create bootcamp backup. The message displayed on the screenshot under step 18 can be ignored. It refers to creating a Windows partition using Boot Camp Assistant but in fact this partition has already been created in earlier steps using Disk Utility.
I bought Winclone 3.3 as it promises to make backup and restore of Bootcamp partition with Windows 7 on it really easy, the steps to do this task are easy and well documented, and the owner of the program was very prompt responding to my queries.
I performed the following as an insurance against disaster prior to creating Winclone image:
Since my Windows 7 came pre-installed but without any installation disk I used Windows 7 to create 'Windows 7 system image' . From what I read on forums the system image created using Windows 7 apparently can't be used to easily restore Boot Camp partition (as it wipes out OS X in the process). I created this image as a last resort backup rescue - some users reported that it can be used to recover Windows but the process is painful and involve a number of steps, swapping hard drives, and paid software to assist in the process. I did not bother to make notes on this process - thanks to Winclone I am not suppose to need this backup if everything works as promised
I also created 'Windows 7 repair disk' prior to running Winclone. Not sure what the value of it will be but again, this is something I did just in case I need it in the future
Then I installed Winclone 3.3 and created Windows 7 Ultimate Boot Camp image without any problems (on MBP running Lion 10.7.4). My Winclone image file of 150GB Windows 7 Boot Camp partition prior to installing any programs and without any data on it ended up being nearly 8GB (saved to the external USB HDD).
I have not restored and don't plan to restore the Winclone 3.3 image just to test if it works (don't want to risk loosing my perfectly well running Windows 7 in case of any disaster). So ultimately only time or experience of other users will tell me if I spent my money well buying Winclone 3.3. I know it worked for you JBLTZ so hopefully it will work for me when I need it one day.
Cheers

ITunes block unmount on MBP with lion
Hello,
I have some trouble with my MBP using Lion and itunes.
Since 5 weeks I can not shut down my MBP when I run itunes with my mediathek.
To get a better piction of the problem, I tried to isolate the issue.
- I have tested the mediathek using my acoount on my old MB (with Lion and itunes) this mac has no issue to shut down.
Therefor I moved my mediathek to an external drive and select this mediathek with itunes on start up.
Bu I have an issue, when I use this mediathek on my MBP with itunes. After I have used the mediathek on that external drive,
I am not able to unmount the drive or to shut down the mac.
- When I only use an empty Mediathek on my MBP, I do not have this issue and can shut down. the mac.
I also tried to fix permissions
I update all apps and all update packages mac suggest. A long time I had the issue some update were not possible becaus I was not able to reboot.
By the time i found out, that itunes has this issue, I changed my configuration and itunes to not start any more on start up.
What can I check or do to solve this issue?
Kind regards
BalduinI'm assuming you've done this, but you don't explicitly say you have, so I'll ask if you've completely shut down your MacBook, waited a few seconds, the started it up again. If you have done this, I'm guessing it didn't help?
Another tip is to repair permissions using Disk Utilities. If that doesn't work you can also repair the disk, but let's leave that one for last. Try the shut down and cold-boot first, then repairing the permissions. -
I have a brand new Macbook Pro with Lion preinstalled. I haven't even turned it on yet. I desperately need Snow Leopard because my music software is not Lion compatible yet. I also have a Time Machine backup from my old Macbook that is currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. How can I get Snow Leopard on my new Macbook Pro? Also, will Time Machine replace the applications on the new Macbook Pro with the older versions I have in the backup or how exactly does that work? I've been staring at the box for 2 days now worried I won't be able to use any of my software. PLEASE HELP ME!
It depends on the build of your machine; normally, no Mac can ever boot from a system older than what it came with. However, there are exceptions: right around the time the new OS is released, there may be some machines which will be able to run both OS's. Here is some information on software builds:

You may have to call Apple to figure out if you can use SL on yours or not. -
How can I get Font Book to install new fonts with Lion OS X without crashing?
Font Book is unresponsive using Lion 10.7.1. When I click on Font Book icon in the dock, I get "Application not Responding". Can't install any new fonts. Anyone else having this issue?
I can get to the open Font Book window if I click on Mission Control to get there, but once there I see spinning wheel, which does not stop.
Any suggestions on how to get Font Book to work well on Lion?Quick update... I removed all non System fonts from ~/Library/Fonts and deleted com.apple.fontbook.plist from ~/Library/Preferences.
Now FontBook doesn't crash when launched.
I think I'm going to use a 3rd party application to manage all non Apple/System fonts. Hopefully that will avoid any future problems. -
New MBP with Lion at 97% battery only showing 4:57 mins...
After fully charging laptop to reach to 100%, I intentionally unplugged so I can see if it will start counting from 7:00 hrs. But to my disappointment, it only starts at 5:00 hrs downwards....right now I am only downloading updates from App Store.
I have read that quick battery drain issue is with Mountain LIon machines, for mine its a LION but still battery is draining pretty much quickly than expected.
Is anyone else experiencing same issue like me?
Is the 7hours battery life advertisement even for real???It looks like Skype is basically running two CPU cores at nearly full throttle (well, 1.57 cores). That's bound to drain the battery pretty quickly. If you were not doing a high resolution video chat in Skype when you took that screen shot, then something is very wrong with it. Check and see if there's a newer version of Skype available that fixes the problem.

Installing Flash on mbp (shipped with lion) safe?
Hello
I have just just received my new MBP with Lion pre-installed and was wondering whether it is safe or not installing flash player?
I'm totally new in the world of mac and after having read a few articles I wasn't that sure anymore of what to do...
thanksFlash is as safe as Adobe makes it. There are occasional security updates regarding it. Some animated websites require it, while others do not. Play around with websites and see if any really needs it that you really need access to. If you find some do, you should also recommend they consider switching their Flash to HTML5, which eats up less processor cycles, and because it is maintained by the open source community is more likely to be secure. Don't click on animated advertisements and banners, unless you are absolutely certain they are legit. Don't believe any popup saying you should install asking you to install anti-virus software. Just close those windows with the red button in the upper left corner and proceed going through websites. If they make a window you can't close, bookmark any sites you are on, and quit the web browser.

I have a MBP with Lion as well as Parallels and Windows 7. In Lion, I completely uninstalled Firefox using "Clean My Mac." Don't ask me why:( Understandably, my bookmarks are gone.
Are they hidden anywhere they can be retrieved? I have been trying to fix this for three days using all your suggestions but just do not have the savvy to do it alone.
Help!!
Dave CainThanks Edmeister. I was able to reach from OSX to Windows 7 to locate and 'Restore' to a bookmark backup file from the Firefox resident to Windows. In fact, I see a list of old dates that are prior to my deleting Firefox from OSX. But none of them changed any of the current bookmarks in OSX Firefox. I then Restored Firefox on the Windows side but it didn't give me any new bookmarks. I was under the impression (incorrectly) that both sides might have the same bookmarks. Wrong answer.
When going into Time Machine, there is also no luck because the Firefox file does not exist in Application Support, so there is nothing to pull from there.
Sounds like it's game over. -
Clean Install with Lion on SSD
Hi,
Was wondering if anyone could provide me a step-by-step guide for a clean install with Lion on to a new SSD.
I have already self-made a Mac OS Lion Installation CD - will this self-made CD be the only CD I need for the clean install (or do I need to use the original CDs that came with my MBP purchase) The CDs that came with my MBP was the Mac OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard (early 2011 model)
If the self-made Lion CD is the only CD I need - then my next question is how can I validate the OS version - I suppose there will be a content ID or some sort of key to ensure that the OS is a true copy? If a key is needed, how do I obtain that?
I was told that one can self-made a Lion Installation CD from a MBP with Lion OS on it and use the CD on all other MBP for upgrades to Lion - but again, there must be a license key to subsequent users, otherwise Apple would be losing money!
Thanks in advance for your response.
ChihHey Sam,
Thanks for your response.
Your response prompt me for another question - let's say I have multiple MBP, if I were to upgrade each MBP's hard drive to a SSD.
Will I be able to log in to my App Store a/c and use the purchased Lion OS (I only had one license) to upgrade all my MBP?
Thanks again.

I have a 2010 MBP with Lion installed as the current OS. I have downloaded mountain lion, but when I go into the install and it promps you to sign in, the whole thing is blank with just the two text bars. Which won't let me type in them. Any help??
And the 2nd installation would not require internet connectivity? Except , of course during the set up and the configuration of iCloud and location based services, which I can skip at the time

HELP... Since last week, I can not awake from sleep. After reading a review I downloaded Deep Sleep, but after the first deep sleep, my MBP (late 2011 with Mountain Lion), developed a problem restarting from sleep. I straight away uninstalled Deep Sleep, but the problem has increased.
Now when I try to awake from sleep, a grey screen with the apple logo appears with a progress bar underneath it, which slowly moves to the forelast indicator, then it stops and a audio signal starts. Three bleeps and pause.
Then when I press the on/off botton and restart the system, the underneath error reports appears with the heading RAPPORTD unexpectedly failed.
Can any one help?

Just to be sure it is an APPLE SOFTWARE ISSUE - ProbablySafari---I used my mac mini ( with mountain lion ) and-- it too drops wifi-- and the end result is
SAFARI CANNOT CONNECT TO SERVER lol
the app store hangs and hangs and hangs
as it does my macbook pro -- they BOTH have to be restarted-- then it is okay for a little while
THIS IS SO ANNOYING ha ha-- in this instance caps does mean I am yelling lol -
MBP early 2009 with lion installed can't load AHT!
My MBP early 2009 is crashing often--just seizing up, and mostly when I'm using wi-fi and then when I move the machine.
My theory is a bad wireless card. I'd therefore like to perform the Apple Hardware Test to see.
Sadly, I can't seem to find the right protocol to run it.
I don't have the original install discs that came with the machine, but I have tried using the install disc from an old iMac that has the AHT on it.
but that's not working
any ideas?
my MBP has Lion installed on it, by the way
thanks!
--frustrated in dallas(blush)
I think I misspoke as to which version of MBP I have. I think I have a late 2008 MBP instead.
Does that make a difference? I notice on the manual that came with this version (assuming I know which version I have) that I need only push "D" and AHT will load. I'm about to try that.
