MBP won't access WiFi

my MacBook Pro (circa 2008 running Snow Leopard) all of a sudden will not access my WiFi (ATT U-Verse gateway). My iPhone & Roku access the internet fine.
I tried Network assistant and restart. The router ID is seen on the MBP but it cannot gdet to internet.

I have been running my MacBook Pro now without issue for about 2 years.  Since April of this year, my machine started crashing a lot - something I chalked up to the new 8GB memory upgrade in April.  I took the memory out and put back the original.  The crashing persisted.
On Sunday of this week, my Mac crashed and when it came back up I had no wi-fi.  I tried connecting to my network but it just kept saying "Airport is on but not connected to a network".  Nothing I would do fixed it.  I created a new network location, and that allowed me to get connected back to my wi-fi, but it refuses to remember the network and every time I wake the laptop I have to connect again manually.  The original Automatic network location seems to be corrupted and I have found no way to repair it.  I've tried all the suggested things here (except re-installing) but nothing is working.  There does not appear to be much help out there on this topic either.
Has anyone been successful in solving this problem in the last few months?
I'm completely up to date with all my software updates.  Maybe one of them is the culprit - suppose I could try rolling back updates one by one, if that's possible - usually Mac's are not this problematic so I am not as familiar at hacking them as I am PCs which require it constantly...

i can,t access wifi via airport after left my mbp idle for just 1 minute, i need to turn airport off & turn airport on if i left my mbp idle for just 1 minute or less...why this thing happen? anyone can help thanks in advance

Something that came to mind after rereading you post relates to the particulars of a "hard" reset on the Snow.
A “hard” reset removes current setting from the base station. You must then connect to the base station using the AirPort Admin Utility and upload AirPort 2.0 or later software to return the base station to its default settings. A base station in a hard reset is only accessible through the LAN port, not via wireless connections ... so attempting to access with the AAU, via a wireless client, will not work.

new iPhone 5 won't access web when connected to wifi.  I can disable wifi launch an app like Netflix and then pause, enable wifi, and then it will acess the wifi connection.  But this is completely frustrating.  Is there an update or fix available that makes it possible for me to avoid some of these work around steps???

  • MBP won't recognize tethered Verizon LG handset

I am traveling through the US for a few months and have an LG handset that can be tethered as a modem to a computer.
When I was given the handset a few months ago, I plugged it into my MBP (running Leopard .8) and the network preferences immediately recognized that the handset was connected although I couldn't do anything with it at the time.
I activated the handset today at a Verizon store and have now spent over two hours trying to make it work. My MBP won't recognize the handset. I downloaded the VZ Access Manager software and tried an auto detect but it's also not seeing my handset. It doesn't show up under the System Profiler either.
    What am I missing?
    Thank you,
    Rae

Never mind; it turns out you need to restart your handset a couple of times. It's still not working, but at least the computer recognizes the handset is there, so that's progress.

  • I'm trying to set up a new ipad4. It won't access my home wi-fi. The network is ok because this iPad is currently on it.  It won't connect to iTunes either. What can I do?

I'm trying to set up a new ipad4. It won't access my home wi-fi. The wi-fi is working because I'm using another iPad to type this. The new one won't connect to my iTunes account either.  What can I do now?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • MBP won't read SD card, but will read CF card with the same card reader

As the title says, I have a card reader that works great with a CF card, but the MBP won't recognize an SD card. This is a new problem for me. I also have an express card adapter for SD that won't read the card, either. I have tried 4 different SD cards, and these exact cards have worked for me in the recent past (within the past 2 months). They work fine in the camera. I also tried connecting the camera via usb, which was unsuccessful. I tried blowing air on the cards and the reader. I cannot get the cards to be read on my wife's macbook. This makes no sense to me, as it worked fine the last time I tried. I find it hard to believe that all cards are corrupt, or the cable is the problem because it reads the CF card.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

check if the SD Card is a SDHC card and if the card reader can read that. I know I have a friend who had this issue and in the end had to buy a new card.
Camera to MBP issue could be resolved by changing a setting on your camera. On my Nikon D300 I need to set the camera to MASS STORAGE in order for MBP to detect it like a drive.

  • Getting quite frustrated with my iPhone 4S.  Can't access WIFI and/or Bluetooth nor will my computer allow it to be a "hotspot" unless physically tethered to computer.  It started acting up after download....it also has messed up some app

I've only had this phone since Sept. and have already had to have the speaker replaced.  NOW I can't access wifi and/or bluetooth (both are grey).  I can't use the Personal Hotspot either (and the passcode no longer shows up).  I can only access internet via the phone through the USB.  This started over the past few days (and after I updated to IOS).
Some of my apps no longer work either...over 100+ hours of audiobooks on Audible can't be accessed as the Audible app just shuts off.
Any recommendations on how to recify?   I'm pretty rural so downloaded anything takes going to the next town over to get a signal from the library...  and all of my searching is eating into my 5gb limit through ATT....so it is a bit irritating

called Apple Care this a.m....new upgrade on 12/31/12 is supposed to fix the "bug"

  • MBP won't boot - "GRUB_" - tried installing ubuntu on an external drive

so i tried installing ubuntu netbook remix onto an external drive, and upon restarting my MBP won't boot to my internal HDD, once it displayed "GRUB_" with a blinking cursor, but is otherwise unresponsive.
now i just get the folder with the ? on it.
I've run disk util, repair permission, repair disk and still no luck.
i can boot the MBP into target disk mode and see the HDD on my other system and all appears to be good, and if i boot to the install dvd, the HDD shows up under the "startup disk" menu, but it just doesn't boot.
any thoughts on how to fix this?

So I have an imac that I have had for about 3yrs. About several months ago, it started acting a little strange, it wouldnt pick up the mouse or the keyboard at times even thought they were plugged in properly to the usb port, sometimes both would work sometimes one or the other would work and other times they worked fine. About a month or 2 ago, I went to turn my imac on and it got to the screen where the little circular icon pops up implying it is loading, stayed that way for 2-3min then turned of and turned itself back on and did the same thing, made the apple sound got to the load screen turned of after 2-3min then turned back on, it has been doing that for the past month. What do I do?

  • Had a problem copying files, now MBP won't mount the external HD`

    Hi
I thought to put this in the MBP forum but since I thik it may be the OS I decided to post here.
I have a newer MBP with OS 10.5, I have an external LaCie c0nnected via eSata to keep my firewire 400 port free. I mounted another external HD to the Firewire port and the computer recognized it and I started copyig some files from the LaCie to the other external. Both formatted HFS+ Files were QT files. Somewhere during the copy process things locked up. I had to force quit the copy process, then coldn't restart the computer so had to ue the boot button to turn it off. Now I can't connect anything to the FW port. The MBP won't mount the 2nd external HD so I can get those files copied. I brought up my FCE and connected the external monitor to the FW port but now that doesn't work either and it was working this morning.
I hope I didn't blow the FW400 port! Is there any way to 'clear it' in case it's still looking for that HD? I don't kow if I'm asking theright way cause I'm really new to MAC's. I tried the Disk Utility to verify the disk and got an OK message. What else can I try?
    Thanks
    Allen

    Hi VK
Well I didn't blow the FW port. My video editing partner came over today to discuss a project we're working on together. He has FC Pro and I have FCE4. So I mentioned the problem to him cause it was his HD that wouldn't mount.
We had FCE open so I was showing him my external monitor fed via the FW port wasn't working either. He went to the View menu then to Video out and then to refresh video devices. BINGO! The external monitor started working. So it wasn't the FW port but apparently the FW was locked up or looking for the other HD. Now it's working. But I haven't tried connecting another external FW HD yet.
    Thanks for your help

  • Access WiFi on Q10

I resolved the problem to access WiFi with Q10.
The problem is SSID. My SSID has some blanks and Korean language. However it is strange to me because I don't have any problem with 9900.
Why Q10 is behind 9900? I think that it is necessary for Q10 to be improved.

    Hey kionabird,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having an issue with Wi-Fi on the iPad. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap  and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network. Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.

  • Satellite P100-221 - How can I access WiFi networks?

    I have a P100-221.
I want to access WiFi networks.
I dont know how to do it. Which driver should I install?
    Any help please?
    Regards
    Nevzat

    Hello
If Windows recognize a WiFi network you can access and normally you will need a password. If you know this, you have access to the network.
Furthermore WLAN must be enabled with the WiFi switch on the notebook and by pressing FN+F8.
For this its not necessary to install a driver but if you need a driver you can find it on the Toshiba website.
I think you should look in the user manual. There you can a lot of informations about your notebook and informations how to access to a WiFi networks.
Sometimes its very useful the user manual.

  • Suddenly, my MBP Won't get an internet connection through my routers

I've had my MBP 15" 2.4 for about three months now, and I've never had a problem connecting to the internet. This morning I booted it up, but when I went to get on a wireless connection it would connect, but still say I had no internet. I have two routers in my house - the main one on one side, and my old iMac in my room (my room is too far from the main router to get signal), and the MBP won't get internet from either. However, as you can see by me posting this topic, I'm getting clear internet through the ethernet cable. An error message in connecting to the wireless signal has also appeared a few times. Lastly, my MBP is running very slowly this morning, and there's lots of lag for the track pad.
At first, I thought it was the main router's problem. But since the iMac's Airport isn't providing internet connection either, it leads me to believe it's something with the MBP. I'm not sure what to do, and I'd greatly appreciate any help I could get.

Sorry to hear about the signal dropping. I don't have a solution but would like hear if anyone has an idea what's going on.
My situation is similar. I have an Airport Extreme (n) and the MBP would drop its connection to it randomly. I've gone to pains to change my phone from using any close freq to the wireless.
