MBP08 Running Vista 32-bit Heat and Battery Issues

Hi,
I am a new mac user and have just finished installing Vista Home edition through bootcamp on my new macbook pro. First concern I found was the excessive running temperature (after about 10 mins I was cooking my legs) this has probably already been brought up before but I was wondering whether anyone can bring me up to speed on any possible solutions/fixes?
Also, vista seems to have a hunger for battery lifek, again anything I should know? If the problem persists, I think I am going to opt out of using boot camp altogether.
One last thing, is there any performance difference when installing XP? I don;t mind what OS i use, I'd just like the practicality of windows on my mac.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry I did not see that you specified what MBP you had in your signature.
Anyways: In windows your battery gets drained a little quicker because windows can only work with the external video card (9600 M GT), so you can compare it with running in High Performance all the time.
Windows XP is a little faster then Windows Vista (32 bit) because XP uses less resources. 32-bit systems are always limited to 3.3 GB of RAM, so your Vista is not using all of the 4GB RAM you have on your MBP. You can consider installing Windows Vista 64 bit or Windows XP instead, you will have more RAM and therefore a faster computer.
Note that Leopard is not really a 32 bit system, it also has a 64 bit library (and can handle up to 6GB RAM). The hardware in your MBP is fully 64 bit and can handle up to 8 GB RAM. Snow Leopard is going to be a 64 bit system. (and can theoretically handle up to 128 GB of RAM)
I have no answer for you for the heat issues... probably a driver problem everyone is struggling with. Time for a Bootcamp version 2.2...

  • MacBook Heat and Battery Issues

Okay my story started on Tuesday night when I began hearing buzzing coming from my power brick. I thought to myself, no big deal, I will just go and take it to the Apple Store and have them check it out because of some of the whining reports. Than I began noticing on Wednesday that my computer was getting hotter quicker than normal. After 5 minutes of being on the fan would come on my MacBook... after five minutes from hitting the power button. This is only from running Mail, iChat, and Safari.
Now, Friday. I decided to run my MacBook only from the battery and with Bluetooth off, screen half down, only running Safari with 96% battery left, it says that I only have under two hours of batter life left. What gives? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there something wrong with my machine? A week ago, when I first got it the machine said nearly four hours of battery life. What the heck? Yes, I did calibrate it. Help would be appreciated here. Thanks in advance.

So yeah, I called AppleCare and reset my PRAM (as I have done before). To be honest, they weren't that helpful. Everything continues to go wrong on this machine and APPLE refuses to acknowledge my difficulties with it. What gives? And why can't there be any help or assistance with this machine. This will definitely be the last Rev A I will ever purchase... EVER. I thought I could deal with it, but I can't.
The fan continues to start running about 5 minutes after starting up. I have less than two hours of battery life after calibrating the crap out of it. I reset my PRAM and do everything that Apple tells me to do, ENOUGH. I have had it. Any thoughts or suggestions would greatly be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

  • Macbook mutliple heat and battery issues!

My MacBook Pro 17" runs so hot I can't hold it, when running with anything OTHER than the lowest screen brightness. CPU is running at half and it still shoots up in heat!
Annoyed now that it has gone through 2 batteries and both have expanded/stopped working after less than 100 cycles.
I have no idea what to do about this... I need this Mac for my Uni work but I can't use it if it's going to keep doing this it's ludicrous.
    Hope you can help!

  • Heating and battery issues  for iPad 3

My iPad gets really hot. The battery takes up to 7-10 hours to charge and it's loosing battery faster than my buddies iPad 2. We used them at the same rate for a test. His was at 56% and mine was at 50%. Sometimes much worse than that.  Like I said it gets extremely hot. And the battery...well it *****. I once put it on the charger over night and it was at about 85% I am very disappointed in this iPad. I have come to expect much more from Apple.

Are you just ranting, or do you have a question?
Btw, the issues you describe have been discussed dozens of times already.

  • I am thinking of getting the iphone 4s 16 g.  I am currently using a hp laptop pc running vista 32 bit.  My questions is:  what calender do I use on my PC that will sync with the calenders on My IPHONE and my 16 gb IPAD.  I do not have microsoft outlook

I have a IPHONE 4s 16 gb.  I use a HP notebook PC running Vista 32 bit.  My question is:  What calender do I use on my PC that will sync easity with the IPHONE and the original  IPAD 16 gb.  I do not have outlook express.

Have a look at this article: Syncing contacts and calendars to iPod with iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7
iTunes has the ability to sync1 your contacts and calendars from Microsoft Outlook, and Windows Contacts (formerly Microsoft Address Book) to any iPod with a display screen.
The maximum supported number of contacts varies by iPod model.
Note: iTunes can sync vCards (.vcf) or Windows Contact (.contact) files, but only from one program at a time. If you sync from Outlook and then Windows Contact, your previous contacts will be overwritten. Outlook 2003 or later is required to sync contacts and calendars from Outlook.  Windows 7 does not include Windows Contacts; Windows Contacts can be downloaded as part of Windows Live Essentials.
This article discusses how to sync contacts and calendars to iPod on Windows Vista. To learn how to sync contacts and calendars from Windows XP / 2000, go here.

Can a T61 with a Santa Rosa platform run Vista 64-bit, or do you need a Penryn platform?
I have been told that the Santa Rosa platform cannot handle Vista 64-bit.
    Thank you!

I thank you very much, Steve and Don!
I had been speaking with a Lenovo tech support agent earlier today, who had advised, "a Santa Rosa platform cannot run Vista 64-bit".
I know. It did not make sense to me either. I guess the Lenovo agent was a newbie.
    I appreciate the clarification!
PS: I wish that I could have both responses marked as solutions.

  • T500: Can you run Vista 64 bit on it?

I have an Intel Core2Duo 2.8GHz T9600 on my Thinkpad T500 and want to know if I can run Vista 64 bit. Has anyone tried it or know if it is even possible?
    Any feedback?

Your system is more than enough for Vista 64 bit. My R61 is running Vista 64 bit, given that it only has a 1.66 ghz Core 2 Duo.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1444 running Windows Vista 64 bit. I have lost all sound. There's a red x next to the speakeer icon on the bottom right of the screen. I have reloaded drivers, checked Device Manager, tested sounds, HP Support Assistant says I have the latest BIOS installed. I tried a one prong earphone in the two prong headset and got no sound. The mute button and the volume slider don't work either.
Please help me if you can.

Go to the link below.Enter your Product Number as listed on Service Tag attached to bottom of notebook (may be under battery). You can also get the Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. After entering PN, click Next ,then choose Software & Drivers. On the next page use the dropdown to select your OS (probably Windows 7 64bit). A list will populate with drivers. Download & Save the latest Audio driver.

  • Vista 64 bit CS3 and CS4 compatibility

    Hi,
I have a new computer on the way with a Vista 64 bit OS (home premium). I have CS3 Web Standard and recently upgraded to CS4 Design Premium. I've deactivated on my old machine and am hoping to install CS3 and CS4 on the new machine, once it arrives in a few days. Will these creative suites be compatible and install on the 64 bit Vista OS?
When I upgraded, I think the upgrade required me to have CS3 on the computer, so I suspect in order to put CS4 on the new machine, CS3 will first have to be installed.
Has anyone successfully installed CS3 and then a CS4 upgrade on Vista 64?
    Kind Regards,
    saratogacoach

    Thanks, Bob.
The new computer arrived a few hours ago, and I successfully installed CS4, only needing the serial number for CS3.
The machine has the new Core i7, but with 6G's of RAM, not 8. So, I'm hoping that the programs will run OK.
    Again, thanks for your help.
    Kind Regards,

  • Can't HotSync my Tungsten E2 with my Windows Vista 64 Bit System and I'm Upset!!!!!

By no choice of my own we were dealt the unfortunate hand of having to replace our last computer it died and to fix it was too much so against my better judgement we had to get an HP with Windows Vista 64 bit on it and there's a bunch of things that wont work with it and my Palm Tungsten E2 is one of those things that wont work.
I have looked on here before I asked what to do and I've seen something about syncing by bluetooth?  I'm not computer literate so you'll have to speak to me in terms I can understand.  I'm not an idiot but not computer savy.
I know what a blue tooth is but here's where I'll sound "stupid" is it the same type of bluetooth as you'd use for your phone?
I'd really like to get this backed up on our computer because I have alot of info on it and I'm lost without it and I'm tinkled off that now I can't use it.
    Help if you can.
    Thanks,

    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Hi Michelle, "BlueTooth" is not something you hold in your hand - it's a wireless radio network used for short-range data transfer.   Much like "FM" or "AM" radios.   There are dozens of devices nowadays that have BlueTooth built into them - GPS units, laptops, phones, PDA's, cars, etc.   (And yes, the little earpiece that people love to show off more often than necessary uses BlueTooth!)
Your option is to add BlueTooth capability to your laptop by purchasing a tiny "dongle".  (A dongle is a generic term for any little USB device that protrudes from your computer.)
There are several ongoing threads about syncing to 'Vista 64 via BlueTooth in this section of the forum.  The key to success in purchasing a BlueTooth dongle is verifying that the dongle does support Vista64...

  • Vista 64-bit - Bluetooth and Evaluation Version

I have official Toshiba hardware, but the driver that was provided with it is 32-bit and, as such, cannot be installed on the 64-bit version of Vista.
So I downloaded the 64-bit drivers online and found out it's nothing but an evaluation version farce with no possible fix.
Has anyone found a way around this massive oversight for 64-bit users?

I am using the "Toshiba USB 2.0 + EDR" bluetooth adapter. It is working fine for me on XP and Vista 64-bit as well. Maybe you are using just on OEM USB Bluetooth adapter, which has a customized Toshiba Bluetooth stack. In such a case you should check your adapter vendor's website if an update is available for your device.

  • 10.5.4 & MBA heat and battery

Just last month my 3 month old MBA (SSD) began operating at very high temperature and the battery life was shot. I usually use my desktop for anything that intensive but love the MBA and recently I've been using it as my main computer. I even have my holiday pics on it..so the temperature and battery drain didn't really surprise me. I was about to install CoolBook last week when system update popped up offering me the latest 10.5.4 update...I installed that and forgot about CoolBook. Been using the MBA fairly intensive (inc streaming video) over the weekend and today and the battery life is looking as good as it ever has (approx 4hrs) and the case remains...dare I say it ... cool.
Has Apple put feedback to good use and somehow with this update treated the battery life/operating temp issue so many have with the MBA? Or has my computer developed a personality and decided the threat of CB lowering it's voltage was enough and decided to behave?

    Bonsoir monsieur maarrcuss,
Welcome to the Apple Discussions !
Thank you for your positive report on the latest 10.5.4 update. My Air is working well and I am a bit afraid to change anything. I am due to make 11 software updates according to my prompt when I first turned on my new Air. I am currently using 10.5.2
