MBPro 17" 2011 wifi signal half of 2010 model. WHy?
I have just today bought a MacBook Pro 17" and moved all my stuff across from my mid 2010 MacBook Pro and instantly notice that the wireless connectivity bar is weaker on the new MBPro.
My iPads wireless is stronger than the new Macbook Pro 2011.
So whats the answer/ fix?
I need this computer for my work but I cant use it if it cant connect 100% of the time.
I have the same problem with my macbook pro 17" early 2011 :)
No idea how to fix it
I 've heard many others complaining about this prob and no solution :)) apple *****

I have the TC connected to the comcast modem, with TC in Double NAT mode. I set up the sonos music players ok. But I read that to incresae the wifi signal the TC should be in Bridge mode. Then I cannot get any of the Sonos units to connect to the wifi network.
So two questions, does the Bridge mode give a better wifi signal then double NAT?
Why will sonos not connect to the network when in Bridge mode?A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

Mid 2010 iMac Wifi signal strength issue
I am having issues maintaining a robust Wifi signal on my 21.5 inch 2010 iMac with 10.6.5 installed.
my symptoms are very similar to what is described in this post:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2596933&tstart=0
in addition to that I am experiencing the following symptoms:
can't print to HP wireless printer
remote app for iphone doesn't find the iMac
mobile mouse remote app doesn't find the iMac
can't ping the iMac from Windows laptops on the same subnet or from the router itself
accumulation of send and receive errors in Network Utility
these symptoms occur after the machine has been connected to wifi for 30 minutes or so. Turning off Airport and turning it back on temporarily fixes the issue. the Mac firewall is turned off.
as reported in the post mentioned above, signal strength for my Windows laptops and other devices is consistently -25 but the iMac signal strength fluctuates wildly.
One more troubleshooting step that I have taken is to install Windows 7 on a boot camp partition to rule out the iMac hardware and physical location as the issue. While booted into Windows the iMac did not exhibit any of the above symptoms and held a steady -25 strength signal.
Lastly I am using a TrendNet Wireless N Access Point but have also tried an Apple Extreme and Express (both N). I've tried 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on various channels. I've even tried dialing down to G mode.
I've read other posts about DNS settings, Static instead of DHCP addressing, etc. and none of these has solved this issue.
Thoughts anybody? TIAUpdate concerning additional troubleshooting steps that I have taken.
1) did a clean install of OS 10.6.3 onto an external drive and managed to replicate the issue....so that rules out apps, preference files, etc.
2) managed to get a little bit more stability by setting up an Airport Express in 5Ghz mode with Interference Robustness turned on and the multicast rate set at 9Mbps....of course ios devices don't do 5Ghz so I still have to run another AP...so not an acceptable solution.
What else do I need to do to prove that it's a Mac OS software issue? -
I have an iPad 2 and am iPod touch 5. Yesterday, my iPad all of the sudden did not want to pick up ANY signal at all in my house. It's like it completely give up on wifi, while my iPod and my laptop works just fine in the same spot. (I have an upstairs bedroom, while the router is downstairs in the kitchen).
So I have been trying yesterday to get it to work so what I have done is completely wipe the memory clean after I backed it up on iTunes. After resetting it, I restored it. Still nothing. So I tried to take my iPad down nearer to the wifi router, and OMG it picked up the wifi signal! WHUT?!? It didn't yesterday though...
But now whenever I am up in my bedroom, my iPad would not pick up the wifi at all, or if it did, the wifi would be super duper weak! But two days ago, it was PERFECTLY okay! My iPod and laptop that is sitting right next to the iPad up in my bedroom pick up the signal completely fine.
Can someone help me? What should I do? Is it problems with my iPad or would it be my router that is the problem? Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

I live in a shared apartment. The router is placed in the hall and my room is across it on the inside. If I step out of the room, I get full signal, but inside the room I get two bars. I don't have a laptop or PC. I want to know how can I improve my signal strength? Will a signal repeater come in handy? Is there any signal booster? Or do I need to add a router to the connection.. Thanks.
How is the router located in the hall - on a shelf? Position it as high as you can. Sometimes the router signal is somewhat directional. Experiment by turning the router to different positions.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

I have Direct TV with wireless, but a weak wifi signal downstairs. Can I get a Airport (what, kind) that will improve my signal so that my Apple TV will work?
If you have an AirPort Extreme now, an AirPort Express could be added to your network to extend the range of the network.
See the info about Extend an Existing Wireless Network.........http://www.apple.com/airport-express/
Install the AirPort Express approximately half way between the AirPort Extreme and the point where the Apple TV will be located. The more that you can eliminate obstructions like walls, a ceiling or heavy furniture in the signal path between the AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express and Apple TV, the better the network will perform. -
Boosting wifi signal on the Sony Blu-ray Disc/DVD Player BDP-S590
I just bought the Blu-ray player which has a wireless LAN built-in. It is having trouble connecting with Netflix. I don't think the signal is strong enough, since I am in a Loft Condo which has one concrete wall that I think is blocking the signal.
If I get something to boost my wifi signal, is that called a repeater. And will it cut the speed in half?
What might be a good solution for me?
Thank you.I suppose the simplest solution, but you didn't say if possible, would be to simply move the wifi router closer to the BD player..
If not, then it will simply take whatever signal it receives and rebroadcast it. So say on a scale of 1-10. The repeater is picking up your wifi at a 4, it'll rebroadcast at a maximum speed of 4, but the repeater itself will be broadcasting at a 10.
I'm tired, so if that didn't make any sense, please, other peoples, chime in.

I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun. -
About 3 days ago the wifi started to be very weak in my room until it just stopped connecting. The Macbook picks up the wifi signal, but when I try to connect it says "a connection timeout occurred". If I bring the laptop about 10 feet closer to the router (I'm the farthest room in the house from the router), it will pick up the signal and connect to the internet and be able to load pages. If I then bring the laptop back into my room, it will still say it's connected to the wifi, but it won't be able to load any web pages until it just disconnects itself from the wifi. When I run diagnostics on this, the wifi and settings is green, but the ISP is yellow until it just turns red. So the Wifi signal reaches my room, but the internet doesn't?
I've also made sure nothing in my room is interfering with the wifi, and the same thing happens on my iPad. The router is also in the same place it's been in the past month, and I've tried moving it about 5 feet closer, but it doesn't help and I can't move it any further.
How can I fix this problem? Is it just my router/modem, or is it some sort of settings on my Macbook? If your iPad and MacBook operate normally when close to the router, then it is most likely a signal strength issue. Here are a couple articles to help you evaluate your signal strength on the Mac:
http://osxdaily.com/2011/12/28/check-wireless-signal-strength-optimize-wifi-netw orks-mac-os-x/
http://thenextweb.com/apple/2014/03/13/better-wi-fi-statistics-analytics-built-r ight-mac-os-x/
You said you confirmed that there are no other devices which might interfere such as a microwave, but please review
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/spectrum-expert-wi-fi/ prod_white_paper0900aecd807395a9.html.
Could anything around your house have changed? Did you add any wifi devices or moved the location of other items which might cause interference?
Another possibility is external interference. Do you have a neighbor close by? Could they have added a wifi router or something else that might be the source of the problem?
If you have a cable router/wifi combo unit, could your cable provider have updated the firmware? Maybe try rebooting the routiner. -
I bought the Airport Extreme because I thought it would increase the range of the WiFi signal in my house. I have a DSL modem (also Wifi) and there are parts of the house that do not seem to have a strong Wifi signal. The Airport Extreme does not seem to be increasing my Wifi signal strength? Any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong? I am able to connect to it, etc. Just thought the strength would be better.
The broadcast power of all wireless routers and devices is limited by law.....and all manufacturers run their routers full blast.....so the relative signal strength of wireless routers from one manufacturer to another will tend to be remarkably similar.....despite the fancy advertising claims.
You may want to consider adding another AirPort Extreme to "extend" the signal strength in your home. If you decide to do this, the "extending" Extreme would normally need to be located at a point that is approximately half the distance from your "main" AirPort Extreme and the general area that needs more wireless coverage. -
How to configure the intensity of my Time Capsule's WIFI signal?
Hey,
I own a TC from late 2009, the Firmware is up-to-date (7.6.4) and I installed it in a new place. The intensity of the WIFI signal is suprinsingly low, significantly lower than the signal of any non-Apple WIFI-router I previously used in the same flat.
I remenber having configured the TC back in 2010 with a lower WIFI-Intensity because I had a very little room and no need for an powerful signal. I probably haven't changed this since than ans this could be the reason why the signal coming from the TC is so low. The problem is that I can't find a way to configure the WIFI-intensity back to normal/ maximum.
Does anybody know a way for OS X Mavericks?
Thanks a lot! There is no change..
Reset to TC to factory.. even if you did alter it, the setting will go back to 100%.. there is nothing else you need do. -

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

No detected wifi signals.
Up until a month and a half ago, my Ipod touch 4th generation connected to my dlink wifi network just fine. Then, after having to do a full factory restore, it no longer finds any wifi connections in or around my home. I performed another full factory restore today, and when that was completed, it found the dlink network and connected to it perfectly for about 30 minutes. But, then it disconnected itself, and again refuses to detect any wifi signals in or around my home. When I am at school, it picks up their wifi just fine, but it will not detect it in my home, and my laptop uses the same dlink connection, picking up and connecting to it automatically. Why does this happen and how can I fix it ASAP.
Are there a lot of computers and devices connected to your Wifi network already? Does your network have a password, and is it your own network or are you using a neighbors?
