Mc OS X 10.6.8 won't update after reinstall following HD replacement

My mid 2010 imac osx 10.6.8 won't update to match my apps which are all 10.7+ from backup. Just had my 1TB seagate HD replaced and had to reboot off my osx install disk which is 10.6.4. Performed a series of software updates but it now wont go beyond 10.6.8. Now none of my core apps work and i have no way to update. Ideas?

From 10.6.8 onwards now you downlaod updates from the App store. In this case you need to download 10.7 or 10.8. You can no longer download 10.7 from the app store as its no longer availiable, only 10.8 is.
So Im guessing you purchased 10.7 at some point form the app store. Now if 10.7 was still available you could just search for it on the app store and download it again for free. But its not! If you can you need to purchase 10.8 from the app store and downlaod it. From there these apps should work again. If however you can't download 10.8 from the app store as you Mac is out of date you will need to take it in to an Apple store.

You may of had a corrupted install. Connect to iTunes backup then restore. Or update the apps on itunes then sync to the iPhone

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
If that still gives problems then create a new profile.

  • IPhoto won't open after reinstalling

iPhoto won't open after installing "bundled software only" from the Leopard cd. The thing is that I already had everything installed , I installed the bundled software thinking that it would install the bootcamp in my mac (I know , I'm stupid...It is because I never had a mac..
    What shoud I do?
PS: other program are not working either , iWork and Garage Band.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • Email won't update after ios6 update

Since I did the iOS6 update, my iphone 4s won't update my emails.  Has anyone else been having this problem?

    Things are working again!!!
Nataliala, did you delete them completle or shut them off?
Early this morning three of the four accounts started working again.  I tried deleting the one account that wasn't working eariled and adding it back in but nothing.
I just tried shutting off all four accounts without deleting them and restarted the iPad.  after it was up and running I reactivated the four accounts and everythings working.  Hope it stays working!!!

  • Apps won't update after 8.0.2 update

After experiencing some of the issues reported elsewhere regarding the 8.0.2 update for iPad 2, I was finally able to get it to update via iTunes.  However, now my apps won't update on the iPad 2.  They start to update and then freeze at the start.

I too am having some of these problems as well.
The App Store has now become "unavailable" and two other apps are unable to communicate with their respective networks (in South Korea). Safari has become unresponsive ("Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding").  The Dolphin browser has also just become unresponsive after having worked for several days!
The UI has become periodically sluggish in scrolling and zooming.
I have no music or video on this iPad either and it is not broken.  I updated from 7 to 8.1, thinking any bugs would be squashed but this is clearly not the case.
Would resetting this device help or would that simply make matters worse? This situation is really bad.  If I can not use my iPad for work, I will be forced to buy and use a Samsung notebook tablet, which I never wanted but I need something that is reliable and this is not.

  • ITunes 7 won't run after reinstalled XP MediaCenter & reinstall iTunes7

We made backup copies of the iTunes folder on an external HD, then reinstalled WinXp MediaCenter (not full clean install) and moved iTunes files back from the external HD, then reinstalled new iTunes 7; however, it won't run now. When we click on the icon, it just says "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close, we are sorry for the inconvenience. If you are in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to us." We've tried reinstalling iTunes many times. We've turned Antivirus & Wndows firewall off and on when installing, but no difference.
Anyone got any suggestions because my wife and 2 teenagers are lost without their iTunes and iPods.
    Thanks,

Someone in a different forum said to be sure that iTunes is installed under the primary user with Administrator Privileges. I'm pretty sure I did that, but I'll try it again to see what happens.

iPhoto is missing substructure that it needs to run.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • My app won't update after I changed my AppleId

I recently had to change my appleId because I weren't able to connect to iCloud. So I did that, but I have a major issue since then. When I try to update my Apps, iTunes consider that I'm not the owner, and suggests me to buy the app again.

Yeah, unfortunately individual purchases are linked to one and only one Apple ID (the one you purchased them with). As of right now, you cannot combine Apple IDs, or move purchases over from one to another. To update apps purchased on another Apple ID, you'll have to sign out of your current account, then sign back in to the old account, do the updates, then sign out and back into the new one again. PITA but it woks if you're desperate.
There are rumors and some hints that Apple is working to allow the merging of iTunes Store Apple ID accounts (the CEO Tim Cook has said he's aware it's an issue), but nothing definitive yet and no one knows when. In some cases you can call Apple Support and have them move individual purchases over from one account to another, though this seems to be taken on a case by case basis, sometimes they will, sometimes they won't.

  • Vista 64-bit Won't Update after Hard Drive Replacement

My daughter has a Satellite L305-S5945 laptop (Model Number: PSLB8U-107071).  Running Vista 64-bit SP1.  She got a message that Windows detected a problem with the hard drive.  After I ran the usual virus scans (no threats or malware detected) and chkdsk route, we were still getting the message.  I did a reformat and Windows re-install and still got the message.  The old drive was a Toshiba MK1655GSX.
I decided to replace it with a new drive, a Toshiba MK3259GSX.  Using the same recovery disks that were created off the old drive, I reinstalled Vista 64-bit SP1 on to the new drive.  Windows loaded fine, recognized the new drive, and then recovered all the Toshiba drivers via the recovery disks.
    ISSUES:
    1) As soon as it released control back to me, I immediately went to Windows Update to begin the downloads of all the updates and security fixes.  However, Windows Update remained red and informed that Windows could not update.  Then it gave me a error code: 8024A000.  It will not check to see if I need updates.
    2) I deleted the pre-installed Norton 60-day trial product (first with Windows uninstaller, then used Norton Removal Tool for all the little pesty registry entries) and downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials.  After going through a few screens of the SE installation, I got a message that installation had failed, and gave me an error code of 0x80070643.
    3) For fun, I removed the new hard drive, replaced with the old failing drive.  Still got the message about the hd problem, but had no problem updating  Windows or running SE.
    4) On the new drive, in glancing through the WindowsUpdate log, I'm seeing a LOT of 0xc8000247 errors (relating to datastore, getservicelist, queryregisteredprovider, etc.)
I am assuming-perhaps incorrectly-that all these errors are related?  Other than the updates, Vista is working fine on the new drive.
    Any ideas?

Can you give us more details about that situation, Mike? A picture would help. You can attach a small one by adding the .txt extension to the file name as I have done here.
In the meantime, try resetting Windows Update.

  • Apps won't update after installing iOS 8

After having installed iOS 8 on my IPhone 5, which has never let me down before, I have had this ridiculous problem, which goes like this - I can't update the existing apps on my phone. Anyone else with a similar problem?

    I just fixed My Wife's iPhone 5.
    steps
    1. deleted all apps that were trying to update
    2. Reset iPhone By holding down the home and power button.
    3. When the iPhone powered back on it immediately prompted us for our iTunes account information
    4. Once I put that in it started downloading the apps but they got hung up again!
    5. Turned off WiFi, connectEd to LTE (AT&T)
    6. Apps finally pulled down.
Not sure what it is because my iPhone 6 plus can pull down apps and updates from the App Store and iTunes while on WiFi. So can all of the other iPads and iPhones in our house. And Her iPhone worked on Safari, Facebook etc.
I think it's an issue with iTunes credentials. Like they're not being passed from the device to Apple.
