McAfee Family Protection taskbar icon has disappea...

The taskbar icon for my McAfee Family Protection has disappeared and now I am unable to logout, switch users, or switch Family Protection off. The icon was there yesterday, but has disappeared today. Does anyone have any ideas why this has happened or how to get it back?
I know there were some Windows Updates installed last night during shutdown, so that could be the reason?
I have tried restarting Windows, but the icon does not reappear. I can login when I first start my browser, but once logged-in I can't log out unless I switch the computer off and on again between each user, which isn't practical. I have tried contacting McAfee support, but they say they can't help as it is a BT product.
Any help would be appreciated.

Installing McAfee Family Protection on second lapt...

Guys/gals - I am trying to install Mcafee family Protection (downloaded from the MyBT pages) on a second laptop. I have been using the product successfully for some time on my first laptop, but am building a new one to replace it.
On running the install program on the second machine it appears to 'install' correctly, but then I am faced with the "Create a Mcafee Family Protection account", where I am faced with the 'email address', 'password' and 'confirm password' screens. I do not want to create an account as I already have one. When I enter the email address it says this already exists and I have to use a unique one. I appear not to be able to get past this screen without putting in another email address. Surely there is a way of installing the software but using my existing account, otherwise what's the point of saying it can be installed on up to 3 machines. It would appear to do that you have to have three different email addresses?!
Am I missing something obvious?

I haven't tried these so can't comment from my own experience: my over 30 year old children might object if I tried!
As so often with reviews of 'best', McAfee doesn't appear on the list.
Also, configuring for OpenDNS will do much of what you want.

McAfee Family Protection unable to contact the fil...

On my son's computer, whenever i try to access any website (including McAfee's own one!) apart from Google I get the message "Family Protection was unable to contact the filtering server." I think McAfee had an update yesterday.

BT Mcafee Family protection and iTunes

Just a warning in case others are having problems with iTunes. I moved from AVG's family protection as I couldn't log in to the iTunes store with it installed. Now BT's Mcafee is doing the similar, but this time I couldn't get things to sync on my iPhone. I uninstalled Mcafee family protection and all is well.

Try using Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

Problem Uninstalling McAfee Family Protection now ...

I tried to uninstall home protection but must have hit an error at some point, a message did appear but I was unable to read it as lthe system restarted. Now I get message saying:
" Fatal error! Cannot load language mapping DLL. Please reinstall filtering application"
I can't access the internet to reinstall Home Protection as I can no longer get a connection due to this problem I assume, I tried to restore back to a date prior to home protection being installed but there was no restore point back as far a that. Hope someone can help soon!

The "incompatible Internet Content filter" message is very revealing.
It is probably the case that you have at least one more protection product installed. This may be , say, an original product installed when you acquired the laptop or something that you loaded in the interim.
Use you windows uninstaller to review all the software products present on your device. You may find something like a Symantec/Norton trial package or any number of protection packages from AVG to Kasperslky through Ad-aware and many others.
Be robust- uninstall anything that looks remotely protective including any older MS products. If you find anything that will not uninstall via the windows uninstaller - post the details here and we will find a mechanism to achieve the required result (eg Symantec also has an MRPC.exe equivalent).
Given that we now know you have PC that is in full working order you could also download a complete version of your preferred MS Internet Explorer and install that full version on to the laptop. Alternatively chose another web browser, Chrome, Safari, Firefox and the rest all are all satisfactory performers.

The volume control icon has disappered from the task bar.

A few days ago I turned on my pc and found the volume control icon that is normally showing on the bottom task bar, had dissappeared? I have explored every option (hidden icons etc.) but the icon does not exist anywhere. Can you help?

Family Protection grumble....

I've finally got around to setting up the free Mcafee family protection on my laptop and was really pleased with the product and the ease of installing it etc. However, the reason I was really installing it was to have some measure of control over what my 15 and 13 year old can access online - I am disappointed to note that despite being able to install the family protection software on up to three computers, I am unable to install it on my son's 'tablet' which runs Android operating system, when this was the one I really wanted it on!
I note from the Mcafee site that the 'android' version is available to buy but I feel a bit disgruntled I cannot take advantage of one of the good perks of being a BT customer. Anyone else agree this is a bit short sighted - to any BT mods - is there any way this can be added to the 'deal'??

They have given you the basic solution to what most households have - a standalone PC and possibly 1 laptop.
I find it quite shortsighted that you expect BT to do what you, as a parent, should be doing. Educating your children on what the interent is and should be used for.

App World icon has disappear and BB protect shows error message

App World icon has disappear so I can not update any App. I have no idea what happened.
Regarding BlackBerry Protect, when I touch the icon it appears an error message ("Error starting net_rim_bb_dryad_gui: Module´net_rim_bb_dryad_commonlib´not found.") so I could not back up my information since a while.

Verizon Security Suite - Uninstall Family Protection

We had to reinstall Vzn Security Suite, which caused our laptop fan to run full speed, full time. We then decided to uninstall Vzn Security suite and laptop is fine/calm. During the initial download, we got Family Protection but didn't set up a user name or passcode. It has, nonetheless, been blocking most sites -- like McAfee (maker of Vzn Suite) and our kids' school! It needs to come off! It didn't uninstall with the Vzn Suite, and we don't have any uninstall codes to get it off. Any help out there for us???

How to uninstall Verizon Family Protection
Try your email addresses and passwords.
it does not have to be your vz email, but I would imagine that is what people would put in there most commonly.
If you don't have that Email and password for the admin account then you might have to call verizon and they might be able to help you or they might have to get mcafee on the phone with you.

Bt Family protection - time limts

I have BT family protection installed (the mcafee product) and have one of my children with a limit of 2hrs internet time per day, this did seem to work fine but it has now started not resetting this time, i did think it was a program/application using her time but it isnt (checked using resource monitor in win7).
She is not logged into the internet, and nothing is eating the time up. i even kept the laptop with me and turned off and coming bsack to it the next day it still says the time has been used.
Any clues??

im haqving the same problem. i have tried creating a new account but that hasnt cured it. have raised it directly with McAfee but as purchased through BT im not sure i get a response. had an online chat with BT but the only thing they could suggest is check the time on the computer. i think its a srever issue as i read somwhere the time on the pc doesnt matter as its McAfees server that checks it otherwise it would be possible to change the time on the pc to get around it.

ITunes 10.5.1 & BT Family Protection - Is a fix co...

Windows 7 systems running BT Net Protect Plus and BT Family Protection.
On updating iTunes to version 10.5 (10.5.2.11 currently) I was unable to access the iTunes store etc.
Following a google search, I established that this issue could be resolved by doing a netsh winsock reset. However this then causes BT FP to flash up a filter disabled message. If I run the fix for that, iTunes stops working again.
McAfee will not provide support for this issue, as their product is marketed and support through BT.
I sent an email to BT customer care, asking for advice/assistance. 10 days later (but it was over the Christmas & New Year) I received a telephone from what appeared to be a call centre outwith the UK, acknowledging that there was an incompatability. However, I was advised that I needed to contact McAfee. However, see above. Catch 22.
Eventually, the advisor appeared to take onboard that I had to rely on BT liasing with McAfee but I am unsure if this has taken place.
Does anyone on here know if a patch/resolution is imminent? I leave aside any issue as to whether it is Apple's or McAfee's fault that things are broke.

This happened to me over this last weekend: All my iTunes music files were intact on Friday February 17th. Over the weekend I had iTunes 10.5.2.11 open a few times and it was very sluggish and it froze a few times and when I went to shut it down I got a message that said "Some other program or programs were using iTunes scripts or scripting." I have not seen this message before. Late Sunday night I went to update some podcasts and iTunes acted as if I was starting up for the first time.(Except it did not require I sign off on the "terms of use" agreement.) There was no music or podcasts at all showing in the main song list and when I plugged my iPod into it it did not recognize it. Further investigation revealed that all of my music files that were in any iTunes folder had been totally deleted, the same with the library file. They were not in the trash either. It did not delete music files that were in other users itunes folders, just the itunes folder of the person woh was logged in during that time. I then ran a full scan with my McAfee software and it could find no spyware malware or viruses.
I am heavily suspicous of Apple and it's iCloud for causing my files to disappear.

How to Set Taskbar Icon in Windows 10?

I have installed windows 10 preview version and try to develop apps on it.
I use
SendMessage(hwnd, WM_SETICON, ICON_SMALL, myicon); to change the application icon before win 8.1.
But I found that the icon in taskbar is no longer the same as that of window icon in windows 10!
It is the same as the tray icon (next to the clock) now.
This is quite strange and the resolution is blurred since the tray icon image is too small.
The problem occurs on the desktop notification icon, too.
Dropbox windows app has the same problem (app icon in taskbar is the same as the tray icon, so as the notification icon)
Is this a new design for taskbar icon for windows 10?
If so, is there a API to change the icon to a customize image?

2. I cannot find any update about the taskbar icon from win 8.1 to win 10. But the way to configure the icon is changed. This really bothers me because the blurred icon looks so ugly...

2. can't help you there, i'm not encountering blurred icon. might be because of graphics driver compatibility.
try installing the latest graphics driver.

Outlook Taskbar icon dissapears, even though outlook is still running.

One of my users has come across a strange phenomenon in the behavior of outlook 2010.
The users perspective:
My outlook program has dissapeared, even though I still have emails open... ARGHHHHHH AHHHHHHHH
Infrastructure Engineer perspective:
Don't believe user, convinced user is "accidentally" closing outlook, or ignoring a message popup, or clicking the wrong button on message popup. So I watched the user remotely for 30 minutes, until
sure enough, Outlook programs just dissapeared from task bar, but open emails were still stacked on the windows 7 Taskbar icon.
Digging through Event viewer highlighted nothing at the time or 30 minutes I had been watching.
Now the interesting part.
Obviously Outlook.exe is still a running process, and right clicking the task bar icon still gives you Outlook options for new emails etc, and can click MS Outlook 2010 to open the main Outlook interface again, which opens rapidly as if it were invisibly
minimized. I also noticed that when it had dissapeared the right click menu "Micorosoft Outlook 2010" button was affixed with " (2)".
So, its looks as though MS has not dissapeared but the pinned task bar icon is looking for an instance of outlook affixed with (2) at the end.
Closing outlook and unpinning outlook from task bar, open outlook from scratch gets rid of (2). Which can then be pinned again, soon after outlook dissapears and the (2) is back again.
The user is built using the same windows image and MS 2010 deployments and updates schedule as 5000 other people, no one else has reported this issue. Any Ideas anyone?
p.s. I have no idea why the text in this post has changed size, something to do with the delete key being used at the end of a paragraph, in order to make a new line instead.

Outlook has a notification area icon as well as a taskbar icon. If you right-click the notification area Outlook icons one of the options is 'Hide when minimized'. If that is checked then it will behave as you are describing.
