McAfee - I know it's been said before but...

... I think it needs to be said again.
I have many customers calling in a panic about Fake AntiVirus software on their machines.  I've trained them to recognize their installed AV software and contact me if they see anything different.  It took me a little while to figure out why McAfee was being installed on their machines, but now after upgrading Flash myself I see why.  Not only that, but some of my customers have complained about McAfee disabling their installed AV.
The average user has no idea that they need to opt-out, nor should they need to worry about it!  The right thing to do would be to have an opt-in, otherwise it really looks like Adobe wants to catch people who don't pay attention.  This behavior is intrusive and unscrupulous and it will be a major factor on purchase decisions and recommendations for Adobe software at my company in the future.
I mean really, how dare you take advantage of people like this then blame them because they didn't read the page?

Really, we don't.  This is a user-to-user forum, and Adobe will not change their policy, no matter how many times you complain to your fellow users.
Complain to Adobe, or educate your customers.

    Those dates are when a backup was automatically made by Firefox, not dates when you saved specific bookmarks. Try restoring the backup from the day before you deleted all those bookmarks. It will restore the entire backup file - not just what you deleted, you will lose any bookmarks that you saved after the date of the file you restore.

  • I know this has been asked before, but...

    I'm having trouble converting a mono audio track to a stereo one. I know you're supposed to extract the audio and open it in QT and export it in stereo, but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm selecting "Export: Sound to AIFF" and "Use: 44.1kHz Stereo." I know I've successfully done this before, but I can't seem to do it this time. Any help? Thanks.

    Is the problem that you only have sound coming out of one speaker? If so, you've already got stereo. It's just that your audio is only on one of the two tracks in your stereo pair.
    So what you really need to do is export to mono.

    I've scoured this forum pretty much all day yesterday and found bits and pieces of the answer I was looking for. Honestly, I'm just not good with HTML.
    I have a service that will stream my videos.
    I can LINK to them from a page in IWEB and that works fine. You click the link and a NEW QT movie window opens. What I'd really like to happen is to have the movie open in a new web page. This way I have control of where the movie is and what the background looks like.
    I've only been able to get this to work (quite easily) if I drag the movie into the page and of course it will upload to the MAC server (and stream slow and expensive).
    I found the Make REF program and that's where I get stuck.
    Is there a tutorial with details somewhere?

    The answer to your question is a definite "YES! It can be done."
    There are lots of reasons to link to content instead of duplicating content on your own server. A dedicated streaming video server is capable of hosting and delivering video content much quicker and at much higher quality. By linking to the content as an embedded object, you also do not use your own bandwidth to host and deliver the content. Plus, with a streaming server, you get real streaming...no real "downloading" of the content to a viewer's machine before display.
    If you were to host the content on your own server, you'd probably want to decrease the hit to your bandwidth usage. This means compressing the video and decreasing the quality below that which you'd get from the dedicated streaming server.

    Well since the only official way for ringtones is to buy them, it is hard for us to help you since you really didn't tell us how you tried to circumvent the only officially supported way.
    And as mentioned, turn off caps lock.

  • So, I know this has been asked before. But, has anyone heard from Apple?

    So, I know this has been asked before, but I'm just looking to see if anyone had heard from Apple on this at all. The minimum volume on my iPod Classic 160gb is too high, and I can't lower it. (AKA when I kill the volume, I can still hear music).
    I called them today, but the rep was pretty useless. He even dropped the "well, just press pause" line on me. Took him a while to understand that when I'm in bed or studying, etc. the minimum volume is too loud, and I wanted to be able to set it lower.
    The best workaround I've found so far is to buy headphones with their own volume control, but I just can't help but feel that someone shouldn't have to by additonal gear after buying this thing on account of such a basic feature exclusion.

    I've heard all of what you spit up before.  And for your point of "Well, in several cases, people have complained (here in these discussion pages), that they expect the volume to be zero when turned to minimum position" that kind of ties in to why Apple should fix this.
    And yeah....it's pretty much a given that "you and I have different interpretations of what constitues too loud" This is where the option to adjust the minimum volume comes in to play.  (I relly feel bad for you. Honestly. Having to live everyday of your life this way must be just brutal)
    The wording would be pretty simple too. " Be aware there are many instances of the minimum volume being too loud, so think twice before dropping a few hundred bucks on this"
    And, you're right. It is horrible to 'whine' about being ripped off and asking if there is a possible fix for the issue. I really do apologize for that. I should just suck it up and not voice my opinion that this is not fair to consumers, and Apple shouldn't fix a known issue with a product.
    I did reset & restore, I figured that was pretty much implied since I said I spoke to Support.
    And I am not at all surprised that you would say "I - for one - am not surprised that Apple might say, "simply hit the pause button"."  Again, I don't want it on muteReading your post made my eye twitch at least three times.

  • Plugin-container.exe. I realise this has been raised before but there never seems to have been any firm reply from Firefox as to how to rectify the problem, as I have just had 94% use of my CPU by this and my use is so slow it is impossible. Emjayel

    plugin-container.exe is a disaster and looking at previous forums it has been so for at least a year without any resolution. As I said before at one stage this was using 94% of my CPU and my system was reduced to a snails pace.
    Surely Firefox should give some useful alternative.

    I appreciate this has probably been asked loads of times before but could someone "in the know" please tell me the easiest way to sort my dilema!!
    I have a 2nd gen ipod & 1st gen ipod touch which were both on my old PC on seperate user accounts. I have since left my wife & she has the PC (we're still amicable!!) which contains both itunes accounts. That left me debating what to do as ideally I didn't want to be going back to hers to do my music management! To make things easy both the audio jack & dock connector broke on my touch meaning the repairs would have been the same as the cost of a new ipod classic so I went for the latter & set up a new itunes account on my laptop. Problem is I would like all of my old music on my new ipod as I had approx 4000 songs on the 2ng gen & 3500ish on my touch. Is there an easy way to get all of that music over to my new laptop & subsequently my new ipod without losing whats on my new ipod/itunes now?

    Hey there,
    One solution is to copy all the songs currently on your iPod to your new iTunes library. There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes.
    It all depends on if you have a Mac or PC with how you copy your music over. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
    Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your new computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
    Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer." From there, restore your iPod and sync it with your new library. I did notice you did not want to go this route though.

  • Album Art I know it's been discussed loads but?

    Hi all, I know album art has been discussed loads but I just need a bit of help. I import images from Amazon ,copy and paste them into the view box with all the tracks highligted but it only seems to put it on the 1st song of the album in my ipod screen.
    When I go into ipod options on itunes it doesn't have the last tab which is artwork.
    I only got my nano Sunday so do I need to update with1.1 to get it to have this tab and make art work better.???

    Try it this way:
    Right click on the image on Amazon and save it to your hard drive in an easy to find location, then go into iTunes.
    Once you have all of the songs selected in iTunes right click on the selected area and click on Get Info, from there you'll be asked if you're sure that you want to edit info for multiple items, say yes, then double click on the album art box and browse to the image you saved from the web.
    Once that's done and you click OK you should be good to go.

  • I know this has been said BUT K8N plat won't post

    I am at my wits end with this damn thing.  I have installed a ton of PCs and never as much trouble as I have with this AMD64 3000.  First I ordered it with the Chaintech 150 board after reading great reviews on it.  That was my mistake for not looking at the forums to see what the real users say.  
    OK after RMAing the board back and forth and getting jack I gave up on it, set it aside and got the MSI K8N.  Installed it with the things below only and actually got the power to stay on only to lock on keyboard and not post.  
    I then read everything I could find in forums and tried everything that was suggested on top of what is the usual steps and got squat.  I am wondering now if the board is bad and I need to RMA it.  Has anyone found a fix to this post problem as I see a lot of people have had it.  I can tell you that my board is not shorted out, I tried other ram and am convinced that is not the problem.  Went and bought a new USB keyboard I did not need and still crapo.  God what I would not do to see a bios screen or even a post!
    Any other suggestions?  If I RMA this and get the same damn problem I swear I am going to start looking for my chainsaw!  
    2 months and counting while Doom3 sits unopen!  

    OK I tried moving the SATA connect to all the other 3 plus I moved the mem.  I think now I have tried about every combo with the mem and have had no luck.
    One thing that I didn't mention as I thought it was part of how this mobo sets up, but as soon as I plug in the power cable and turn on the PS the PC powers up.  I then can control it via the power switch., but if I unplug it then it will repower as soon as the plug is reinserted.
    I let iit sit in this error state for quite some time also and it doesnt appear to be a heat issue.  There has to be something simple that I either did wrong or am missing.  I have read a lot of post of people with this exact same problem and now I am getting emails of more having the problem and asking me to let them know what worked.  It would have to have been a really bad Monday at MSI for this many boards to be faulty(and that is humor as I think it has to be something I am missing).
    Oh and the Chaintech board would powerup for a split second then shut off.  It never made it near a post .   Read someplace that Corsair mem would not work with the Chaintech (plus many others) and decided to switch to the mobo choice most forum people were suggesting for a AMD64.
    I appreciate all the suggestions.

    In a flurry of activity my GF deleted my isync while we are on holiday,
    I am a bit stuck I know there is a way to get Isync to work using pacifist and the install DVD. However my phone is pretty trashed and looking like it is gonna pack up any day, I should have sorted it before we left but now im a 1000 miles away and need to get Isync back ? is there anywhere i can download it? even an old pack?

    iSync is not downloadable separately for Mac OS X 10.4 and later.
    If you download the latest Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Updater from Apple (the huge one), you might be able to extract and install the latest iSync from that using Pacifist.
    This is not guaranteed to work, because OS X Updates don't always include all files needed to completely restore an application, but you may be lucky as iSync was updated from v2.0 to v2.4 during the 10.4 to 10.4.11 updates.
