McAfee installed even though I UNchecked the box to authorize installation.
I received a notice of an update to Flash. I clicked on the link and was taken to the Adobe site, where I clicked on the Download link and specifically UNchecked to box for installing McAfee. The installation file downloaded and, when it ran, it nevertheless installed the McAfee product, which I did not want.
It's bad enough to have to OPT-OUT of having an undesired product installed, but when the OPT-OUT instruction is ignored and the undesired program gets installed anyway, it's REALLY unfair.
Please fix this.
If you have nothing worthwhile to contribute, "MVP", then it might be better if you contribute nothing at all because that's the value of your contribution in at least three of these threads that I've seen so far. Find me the person who wants this garbage-ware installed, bring him to me. You won't. Aside from your fanboi-ism, nobody, NOBODY in any thread concerning Adobe's underhanded little trick wants the McAfee garbage on their computer. Everyone else has been critical of the way that Adobe has gone about this. Having it on by default means that some people will miss it. I know it, you know it if you get your head out of your fandom for 30 seconds, Adobe knows it, McAfee knows it which is why they pay a few pieces of silver for it to be done that way. Not you of course, as you've pointed out in other threads you are far too savvy and have never in your life clicked past a dialog inadvertently, but you know, mere mortal users without your l33t interwebz skills. The fault here lies entirely with Adobe and McAfee. So yes, it WAS Adobe's fault for deliberately including the malware in a way that it knew from the outset that some people would miss. How is it that everyone else is wrong and only you see the Pure Shining Truth? Enjoy it when Adobe finally hacks off enough customers with this and other recent policies and someone else comes along with comparable or better products. You can sit in here shining your pretty little MVP badge, assuring yourself that when the company finally goes to the wall or becomes a niche player that none of it was Adobe's own fault. I'm sure that the fanbois who could see that Lotus or Word Perfect could do no wrong told themselves the same thing.
Oh wait, you haven't hit the "this is a user forum, there's no point complaining here" chorus that you've churned out in some other threads yet, though I'm sure you will. Try, just TRY to fathom this concept. If Adobe is not monitoring these forums, then they would be idiots. And they aren't idiots, because we see staff members, not just fanbois with airs and graces, posting here. And the more posts that are made in the forums about it, the more Adobe might, just possibly, "get" the level of anger that exists about this subject in the wider user base. Which, incidentally, consists of more people than just you.

I finally decided to give ver 21 a chance. I did not use the help option in the browser but came directly to the Mozilla site and did the download from there. I chose the custom install and accepted the choices until the screen with the check box for the auto-maint. stuff. I do not want it and never have and have always unchecked the box and all went fine.
This time no matter what I try, I cant prevent it. I finally had to roll back using system restore. I can not figure out out to turn this thing off once it down loads and I just wasted another couple of hours getting a usable version of Firefox back in place.
I would like to update, but I am not willing to go through this again. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Chris L.I did the install in the default folder- and have done upgrades this way for years.
What happens is after doing the update, when I first click to open a Firefox browser window, before it opens I get a pop-up that says it is checking to see if my add-ons are up to date. After several seconds it then says they are and it closes.
Somewhere in the past when this feature started to appear, it did so automatically if I did an update through the help page link. That is why I refuse to use it. It did not respect my choices as using it always returned that dang add-on stuff. Plus it never asked if I wanted it nor did it offer the maint. box option.
What I used to do was use Explorer (not IE) on XP to get on the net. First I would delete Firefox, leaving my info. Then I used Explorer to go to the Mozilla site and downloaded Firefox as if it were my first time. Then I unchecked the box using the custom install route, the new version installed and the add-on thing never happened.
I can't do the Explorer trick in Win 7 and I don't let IE be functional on my system. So I just went in the front door, clicked the install for Firefox and went the custom route, unchecked the box and got the dang add-on checker back,
So what I did this time was to save a download of version 20.0.1 from the rollback site I have used over the years instead of installing. Then I uninstalled Firefox, keeping my info, rebooted the PC and ran the download. When I did, I unchecked the box as always and when done, the add-on checker was back anyway.
I finally had to do a system restore and and got version 20.0.1 back that way and am using it and no add-on checker runs. I am loathe to lose all my extensions or add-ons and settings that may be at risk doing a reset. I have been down that road before. I have been a Firefox user for a number of years now, it is the only browser I keep on my box.
However, I am not a fan of software functions that try to take decisions away from me. I am rarely a fan of anything that gets labelled or actually named as smart for the most part. I do not mind software to help others who don't care if it usurps their ability to decide, I do object to being forced to use it. All I want is the off switch for it.
It wasn't until I learned that two features included with ver. 21 I would not let on my system could be turned off that I was even willing to download the upgrade. And when I did, it took me a couple of hours to get back to a working version of 20.0.1 and rid myself of the add-on checker.
On light of the above additional detail, any ideas? -

How do I stop emails? Flooded even though I ticked the box for no emails and spoke to apple today,
I am having the exact same problem, I replied to a thread about a hacked itunes account. Apparently so has every other person in the world, because every time somebody else writes on the thread, I end up getting an email. I've changed my preferences, and yet the emails are still coming!!! How do I fix this!!! GRRRR!

I cannot use FF 9.0 on my work computer--it cannot connect to any site. FF 8.0 works great, and I want to keep it. But no matter how many times I uninstall 9.0 and re-install 8.0--UNchecking the box for automatic updated--9.0 keeps re-installing automatically after a day or two. How do I stop this?
Sorry, Swanarva, It didn't work as it was supposed to. I downloaded, saved file, clicked the download to open, clicked 'run' then got an error message that it couldn't find the file(!) . No idea what happened or why. Should I have uninstalled Firefox first, then downloaded Firefox 8 using another browser or downloaded, uninstalled Firefox 09 beta then tried installing Firefox 8?
At this rate, IE is looking good, despite its shortcomings. -
When trying to log into my bank accounts (2), I always get a security Challenge Page even though I have repeatedly checked the box to register my computer as a private computer. When I attempt to get into these same two accounts using Internet Explorer, I skip the Challenge Page and go directly to the Log In page. What settings do I need to change in Firefox so that I don't get the Challenge Page every time?
I have had exactly this problem - Firefox - version 11, but when I updated all my plug-ins (go to Customize Firefox - about halfway down - '''''Check your plugins''''') and restarted Firefox the problem vanished. Hope this helps as this seems to be a fairly large issue.

Itunes/Bonjour/Apple Mobile Device won't Install even though I'm the Administrator
Since late February I have been unable to reinstall ITunes. It all started when I tried to update it, and it wouldn't work. Ultimately I uninstalled ITunes and tried to reinstall it, but I kept getting this message that the Apple Mobile Device could not be installed(?), and that I have to verify that I have sufficient privileges to install.
Since then I have:
Ran as the administrator
Made sure that 'everybody', 'my user' and the 'administrator' (pretty much just me) have full access
Turned the User Account Control off
Cleaned up the registry using CCleaner
Used Command Prompt to check the C drive?
Used the SubInACL tool to repair any file and registry permissions (from here)
Nothing worked. I also went to the ITunes music folder, made myself the administrator, and it still wouldn't work. Recently I uninstalled Quicktime, Bonjour, and the Apple Mobile Device, Apple Software Update, Apple Application Support....everything Apple. Still couldn't install Itunes. In fact, now I can't install Bonjour or AMD.
When I tried to install Bonjour, I got the message:
"Service 'Bonjour Service' (Bonjour Service) could not be installed. Verify you have sufficient privileges to install system services.". If I hit 'ignore', then it'll just do the same thing except replace 'Bonjour' with 'Apple Mobile Device'.
I'm at a lost.
I have a Hewlett-Packard laptop
HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC.
64-bit operating system.
Windows 7 Home Premium
Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
Processor: AMD A4-3305M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, 1900 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Locations
Installed physical memory (RAM) = 6 GB
Total physical memory = 5.48 GB
Available physical memory = 1.98 GB
Total virtual memory = 11 GB
Available virtual memory = 7.39 GB
BIOS Version/Date = Hewlett-Packard F.49, 12/25/2012
SMBIOS Version = 2.7
Hopefully, that's enough info. Any help will greatly be appreciated.Hey mrsslick,
This section contains information that might help your situation if you're using Windows XP:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Quit the following programs if they're running:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Choose Start > Control Panel.
In Control Panel, open "Add or Remove Programs."
Select iTunes from the list of currently installed programs and click Remove.
When asked if you would like to remove iTunes, select Yes.
After the uninstallation is complete, don't restart your computer if you're prompted.
If other program entries were listed for iTunes in Add or Remove Programs, remove those as well by repeating steps 4-6.
Remove all instances of these applications by repeating steps 4-6:
iPod Updater
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Restart your computer.
You should be able to remove Apple Mobile Device Support by following those steps above. The article you came from however is for Windows XP - if you're using Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, follow the directions in here:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
The steps in "Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel" and "To remove these components, follow these steps" are the most pertinent.
Let us know if following that article helped at all.

Work Offline is always checked when I log in to my laptop. I have to uncheck it to get to the internet. I don't usually want to work offline so this is very annoying
You can try this:
Create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.
Right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
Name: network.manage-offline-status
Value: false

In Windows 7, Firefox 8.0 does not ask to save passwords, and does not save, them, even though I checked the box to save passwords. I have confirmed that clearing history is not on and that I am not in Private Browsing. This is so frustrating, it almost makes me want to go back to Vista. I have looked at all the suggestions to fix the problem in "Help" and have followed the suggestions, and none of them help.
I have the TX2 1012NR and its can upgrade just fine! Here is a few recommendations "only if u have the HP Upgrade program disks"
If you have them you can install a clean copy and delete everything... Do not use the use me first disk included because it prompts you to install an older BIOS.... Just use the windows 7 upgrade disk and start the process. The clean install clears your entire drive but does not void your warranty! When you use the use me first disk after the install it actually loads everything else needed to get you up in running. The touchscreen driver and the HP Mediasmart programs will have to be downloaded from the HP support site. Once again its recommended that if there were any programs installed delete them do not try to update them! This causes issues and countless errors. Specifically with touchscreen drivers etc uninstall them before installing the ones from HP support. I found this was not the easy way to do it but the best way... I also recommend that when doing any sort of BIOS update that you remove your Battery and leave it connected to a power cord only! Last but not least if you really mess up and its under warranty... Send it to HP they will set it back up to factory defaults under Windows Vista with the more up to date BIOS installed. I hope my information helps! Sure you might loose some programs but in the end your computer runs faster and smoother because all the programs installed are made for Windows 7.... Also they did release the Touch Pack for download from the Microsoft website here is a link telling more about the features and benefits and how to get it as it is a totally free download...

When I try to install Lion it tell's me "You can't use this version of the application install mac os x Lion with this version of Mac os X" even though I have the latest update 10.5.8 of Mac os X?
The install icon has this sign on itmoose0422 wrote:
You can't install Lion over Leopard. To install Lion, a requirement is Snow Leopard. So you can either upgrade to Snow Leopard first or you can make a bootable Lion install disc and use that to wipe your hard drive and install a fresh copy of Lion.
So to make a disk would require you to purchase Snow Leopard and upgrade to 10.6.8 so you can use the App Store, unless you have access to another computer to download it from with your Apple ID. Remember it is about a 3.4GB download.

In the middle of an update, it call closed. Itunes keeps saying that it's not installed, even though ive tried reinstalling multiple times. All my iphone is doing it showing the ituns symbol and a charger. How can I fix this???
Hi lepyykko,
If I understand your question, you are trying to update your iPhone, but you are seeing an error message that iTunes for Windows is not installed, is that right? The first step is to get iTunes successfully installed on your computer. Then backup the iPhone before updating the iOS software.
Are you seeing any error messages when you try to install iTunes for Windows?

Update your device wirelessly
The easiest way to update your device is wirelessly, also called “over the air.” Here’s how:
Plug in your device to a power source.
Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Tap Download and Install. Updates might download automatically while your device is connected to Wi-Fi and a power source.
Tap Install, or tap Later to install the update later. If you use a passcode, you'll need to enter it before installing the update.

How can I get past "close IE" to continue the install even though IE is closed?
I keep trying to install flash for win7 pro 64 bit and it stops half way through and even though I've closed IE, it will not get past 50%. The other thing that concerns me is that flash 32 bit is installed but I can't uninstall it even using adobe's uninstall. I get the same error message that I have to close IE even though it is not open. I've been through all of the troubleshooting steps. I have adobe in my accepted list with https:
Anyone know the answer to this? I can't watch anything online without it. If not, can someone tell me how to contact adobe for this problem because I have no other options. Here's the log. Thanks again.
