McAfee security(BT Netprotect plusa) excluding cer...

I am using be provided antivirus, which came with my BT broadband.  BTNet protect
plus which is essentially McAfee
I am using Dragon naturally speaking, which is a piece of speech software
There is obviously a conflict between this program and the McAfee antivirus
I can see no obvious way of a building into the antivirus software a list excluded files-files not to be checked?  Can anyone help me on this?
Thank you

You should only have one antivirus programme on your computer. You will need to decide which to have and uninstall the others. I, along with others on this forum would suggest that you uninstall all of them and install somthing else such as Microsoft Security or AVG Free or Avast free. McAfee and BTNet protect hog resources and are known to cause some problems such as you are having. If you do decide to uninstall them follow this guide.

Make sure you follow it including the McAffe removal tool part.
The Rapport software is I presume supplied by your bank. I don't know if this uses al lot of resources or could cause a conflict. You could leave it on meantime.

Since the recent program update to Netprotect Plus, I am unable to use FTP. If I disable the McAfee Firewall and enable the Windows Firewall, all is ok.
Ports 20 and 21 are open in McAfee - any ideas would be very helpful please.

My advice and that of others on the forum would be to uninstall BTNetprotect. It can cause problems on some computers and is a resource hog. There are far better free antivirus programs available such as Avast Free, AVG Free and Microsoft Security Essentials.
If you do want to uninstall BTNetprotect use this guide and make sure you use the BTNetprotect/McAfee removal tool after you have restarted your computer.

If you do want to re use BT Netprotect, uninstall it using this guide along with the BTNetprotect/McAfee removal tool after a restart and then reinstall. That may sort your problem.

  • BT Netprotect Plus/McAfee not turned on, cannot st...

    Hi guys,
On my wife's laptop (windows7) i get a toolbar flag with a cross through it which, when clicked, comes up with a window that says "McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware reports that it is turned off". If you follow the options to "turn on now" it asks you to "trust" the publisher. If i do that it appears to do nothing.
So i tried clicking the the McAfee shield on the bottom right and nothing happens (no response).
So i tried to go into BT NetProtect Plus via Start, All Programs etc. and when i do all i get is a blank white box (no other response. Only way out is to close the program.
Same blank white box when i try to "Uninstall or change a program" for BT Netprotect Plus.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Jeff

    Insomnia struck, so here goes.
    @AQ
Only problem I had with MSE was getting a scheduled scan to run, though it wasn't really a problem as it lets you know soon enough if you need an on demand scan, provided you show the icon in system tray. I won't bother with the details, but it had to do with how MSE operates with Task Scheduler. Anyway it was solved through Windows 7 Forum. For what it's worth here's how I got it to run reliably:
Set a quick scan to run to run daily at a time when you are most likely to be using the computer. Uncheck the two boxes for latest definitions (MSE checks every day anyway) and to run when not in use. Leave CPU at default of 50%.
This captures a scan every couple of days at least, completely unnoticed as it takes literally a couple of minutes and has a very light touch. I only know it ran by checking the program. A full scan is very thorough and takes a couple of hours; worth running now and then when the computer has nothing better to do. As belt and braces, I also use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on demand occasionally; it too is very quick.
MSE doesn't come with a firewall but you just need to turn on the Windows one. MSE also disables Windows Defender, a bonus as you get way fewer Windows updates.
    @DS
I also liked Site Adviser but it was never happy with Chrome, my default, so I opted for WOT. They do work differently; who knows which is better?
I use IE occasionally due to Chrome not going too well with a particular website. I did have Site Adviser with it, but it went with the rest of McAfee when I installed MSE, and I replaced it with WOT just for consistency. I'd be surprised if there was a problem running SA with MSE. Google didn't bring up much; no suggestion of incompatibility but some consensus that MSE was OK on its own and SA is cr@p! So yer pays yer money and takes yer choice I guess.
MSE is very slim but does offer a bunch of options.
    @All
I've said before that McAfee was not too bothersome on my laptop, but it strangled the netbook. I was so pleased with MSE on the netbook that I also ditched McAfee from the laptop when it delivered the icon problem reported here some weeks ago, even though I still had a year's subscription left. Good decision.

  • Why does the Flash player update push me to install McAfee Security Scan Plus?

When Flash asks me if I want to update, it takes me to an Adobe page to update it, but there is a checkbox already checked to install McAfee Security Scan Plus. I already have an anti-virus program installed. Why does the flash update page assume that I want to install this software?

Generally this occurs because there's a third-party plug-in that affects how the JavaScript on the page got executed.  Ghostery, AdBlock Pro and NoScript are common candidates.
Under normal operating conditions, you should see an opt-out dialog like the one below.  While cost-recovery measure are a reality for a product that is tremendously expensive to develop and distribute free of charge, the intent is absolutely to allow you to opt out.
If you want to avoid the download and installation experience for Flash altogether, switch to a browser that includes Flash Player as a built-in component, like Google Chrome or Internet Explorer on Windows 8 and higher.

  • Simple question re McAfee Security Scan Plus?

    Hi - newbie here!
Just been asked to download latest Adobe Reader - no problem all went well as expected. However, I notice that it also installed "McAfee Security Scan Plus" automatically.
Will there be possible "contention" with my already installed Kaspersky security?
    Cheers
    Stuart

http://get.adobe.com/reader/ Just went back there and this time I noticed the McAfee inclusion checkbox, ALREADY CHECKED, and just as good as HIDDEN far enough away to the top right of the download button to be out of range of the fovea. I think it is fair to assume that Adobe has some expertise at user interface design, in which case such positioning indicates Adobe's INTENTION for the user to miss this detail.

  • McAfee Security Scan Plus

New computer, installed Firefox, went to get Flash Player for Firefox.
Install the plugin, Firefox warning comes up about software trying to be installed, click "allow", install window pops up, 3;2;1, click install.
Adobe Download Manager comes up downloads Flash Player, Adobe Flash install programs starts, need to close Firefox to continue
Flash installed, McAfee Security Scan Plus installed.....
Huh? What? McAfee Security Scan Plus????
Their was no notification that McAfee Security Scan Plus was going to be installed.  Their was no check box.
I am an IT guy.  I dont get viruses. I dont fall for scams. I dont get phished.  I dont click "yes" on anything that pops up on my screen.  I fix all my family and freinds computers.  I build my own computers, I havent bought a premade pc from a company in over 15 years.  I am a Linux system admin.
When I install software, like Flash player, I read everything that pops up on my screen, except for the full EULA.
I cant wait till HTML5 becomes standard.  Then the world can rid itself of this resource hog and now apprently also a virus.
Adobe Flash did not notify me McAfee Security Scan Plus was being installed untill after it was installed.

I'm another IT guy, and I did NOT get the normal Flash install screen with the McAfee junk checkbox. I've learned long ago to watch for it, especially with Adobe products.
I run a utility on my system that watches the Startup paths in the operating system, and notifies me when something wants to install itself to start automatically. That gives me option to say "no," and keep my system running fast a smooth. Well, Adobe has even worked its way around that kind of protection. Their products now scan for available updates in the background when they are running, then use the system's Shut Down process to put their updater in the "RunOnce" key of the Registry! Then when you reboot, even though you KNOW you didn't authorize any Adobe product to auto-start, up comes their updater. But I digress....
This time I was browsing with Firefox, and a Flash page said my player was out of date. Click the link to update it. The download started immediately, with no option to opt out of anything.
Surprise! McAfee Security Scan Plus pops up so it can do its fake scan and try to get me to buy something. McAfee used to be the flagship anti-virus out there. It was fast, unobtrusive, and just did the job. But McAfee lost sight of it's original purpose, and now, in their attempts to become a one-package security solution, McAfee has become a bloated, sluggish system hog like Norton. And like Adobe. They all deserve to just die.
McAfee has resorted to Adware to make sales, and uses scare tactics to get you to buy. They have obviously partnered with Adobe with a deal to make money for both of them. (Norton, also, has now resorted to scareware sales tactics, BTW.) Why are they doing this? Because Microsoft came out with Security Essentials, which is free. And it provides better protection with far less system load because it integrates with the operating system.
I dropped Adobe Acrobat a long time ago. If there were a good alternative Flash player, I would dump Adobe player in a second. In half a second. This kind of bloatware sales partnership garbage is unacceptable. There are other multimedia formats out there. Maybe the world will wake up one day and stop using Flash altogether.
Oh! And their forum software sucks, too. My screen name isn't supposed  to be "BubbaJoeBlow." It's supposed to be "D'Hag," which was registered  with my account. But the forum wouldn't let me use it. Great job, Adobe!

  • Removing McaFee Security scan plus

You snuck in McAfee security scan plus in with flash player update. How do I get rid of it, it doe not want to uninstall! I wanted the flash player update because I got tired of being hassled about it, I did not want this other JUNK! Keep your products separate from others.

    Visually:
    Start>Control Panel
    Programs and Features>Uninstall a Program
Uninstall McAfe Security Scan from the list and Close the Control Panel.
Registry Editor (Press the Windows key + R and type "regedit" then click OK)
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software
Delete the McAfee folder by right clicking and choosing delete
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE
Delete the McAfee folder by right clicking and choosing delete.
THAT will completely remove McAfee Security Scan from your system. You should reboot after ANY registry changes.

  • [locked] I HATE your McAfee Security Scan Plus INSTALL!!!

WTF is wrong with you people?????
NOBODY WANTS THAT SOFTWARE INSTALLED ON THEIR COMPUTER!!!
IT'S AN ABSOLUTE PAIN-IN-THE AZZ TO TAKE OFF!!!
YEAH, THERE IS A CHECKBOX, BUT SOMETIMES WE'RE TRYING TO JUST INSTALL THE FLASH PLAYER!
AND TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, THE FLASH PLAYER 10.1 DIDN'T EVEN INSTALL PROPERLY!!!!
Message was edited by Jochem van Dieten to remove profanity

This is insane - why would I want McAfee Security Scan Plus when I was updating Flash? All I was doing was trying to open the browser to do a quick task, but Frirefox wanted updating and in the process it says I need an urgent update to the Flash player... so now I've been interrupted twice, I want to just get this out of the way and get on with what I was doing.
In answer to some of the other people criticisingthis guy for not payinig attention, why should we have to pay attention to something like this? I am an interface designer and I can tell you this is BAD design. You don't provide people with an opt-out for something they have not chosen during a routine event. You then get a) people overlooking this because we tend to rush through in everyday tasks like this, b) not lookinig for it becuase this isn't usually there, c) notexpecting "little traps" because this is supposedly a large "trustworthy" company.
This is a trust issue - as a device to knock large chunks of value off your brand it's pretty successful. The director in charge of the Adobe brand should go and kick whatever f**kwit thought this was a good idea, becuase they've probably just knocked a few hundred thousand $ off the balance sheet.
And as to the personal responsibility - well yes I agree we need to get back to taking personal responsibility for things... but equally, companies have responsibility for designing things not trip people up (do you think Boeing should not worry about the pilot interface because heshould just pay more attention?).  And there is a big difference between a design mistake and a "reputable" company deliberately providing a required opt-out for unrequested extras, for thier own commercial gain.
By the way I am right now looking at a huge bill to buy CS5 which I have to have to do my job... 'dI rather that when I pay a lot for the product it covers the cost of the required security updates, instead of me having to look out for tricks they pull when Installing security updates.
Basically this kinid of thing doesn't improve our lives.

  • McAfee Security Scan Plus and Flash Player installer

    Hi.
I went to update Flash Player earlier today by downloading the web installer from the website, but by mistake didn't uncheck the option to install McAfee Security Scan Plus with Flash. However, after comparing the two files that are downloaded when the option is/isn't unchecked, I noticed that the MD5/CRC hashes for both files are exactly the same. I opened the file, and noticed that the installer was downloading both Security Scan Plus and Flash. I canceled the installation which was fine, but I have several questions.
How does the installer know if the user wants to install Security Scan if both files are the same?
Is Security Scan installed as soon as the download is complete (as shown in the installer), or only after Flash finisheds downloading as well?
    Thanks.

Bundling other software in the installer is a sign of a DYING company. Now I have to do more work and uninstall this stuff. Yeah, you got me. "Angry" is not strong enough. -Foffu.

Hi i'm having problems with my McAfee NetProtect Plus thing it seems to keep turning off the Virus protection it has done it most than once in a day i have no clue what it causing it and would love some help to find out.
    Thanks

ok run the removal process again then use housecall to do a full scan of your pc, after it has finished (might take several hours depending on the size of the hard drive fitted) if it finds anything clean it, and then try getting mcafee installed again, theres a chance that your registry corrupted an entry and the removal tool didnt notice it, however the trend micro housecall should notice it and fix the error,
this is an online av tool that will detect anythign odd and tell you about it, sometimes odd things can mess up your system but if you cant run the online av program after disabling the windows firewall then it would indicate that something has infected your pc or changed various settings so your unable to get av to work, now this can be something benign and possibly get fixed by booting into safe mode (reboot the pc and keep f8 held down untill the boot options screen appears) enter the admin password (default is blank password) and use system restore to roll back to a date before the problem occured.
