MCE Internal 8x Blu-Ray Player Question

I received this drive in the mail around the beginning of the year to go with my new Mac Pro. Installation seemed to be a snap (coming from a former PC user). Powered the machine on and OS 10.6.2 recognized the drive.
However, 10.6.2 only occasionally recognizes the drive. You cannot eject the drive and going to the hardware utility does not reveal the drive.
In fact, sometimes when I go into the hardware utility it will freeze when I click on "Burner".
I set up an appt. with the Genius Bar, and I e-mailed MCE for tech support. It seems the drive works because I have burned with it. I thought it may be a power issue having to do with the cables so I switched the Superdrive with the BD drive. I even removed the Superdrive altogether and I still get the same result.
Any thoughts?

I am quite the newbie to this forum but will try to at least help.
I wonder if the MCE drive doesn't have a bad pin connector or something? You change it with the superdrive and that doesn't seem to help so this could be possible. Maybe it is something buggy with SL ... as this seems to be the only Blu-Ray drive available for the Mac Pro ... as least that I have seen.

I have an Airport Express V 6.3, currently I have it set to 'Join a wireless network' and its connected wirelessly through a Netgear router that is located on the 1st floor, I'm on 3rd floor by the way. I've been using it for airtunes, but I recently received a Sony Blu-ray Player and would like to connect it the airport express via ethernet cable.
What do I have to set up on the airport express to be able to give the blu-ray player internet?

You'll need the 802.11"n" version of the AirPort Express to be able to "Enable ethernet clients" and connect the DVD player. Unfortunately, your older version of the Express does not allow this type of feature.

Can I connect my iMac's iTunes library via wi-fi to my Blu-Ray player so I can listen to the music on my computer with my home theater system?

My music library is on my iMac, located in a different room of the house than my home theater system with a decent Denon receiver and good Infinity towers. I have an iPod connector to the Denon which I can use, but the iPod has a limited library of songs, so I would like to somehow access my iMac music library and be able to play it through the home theater system. Hard wiring the components is out of the question due to length of run through several rooms of the house, no basement and cathedral ceilings. I already have my iMac and my Panasonic Blu-Ray player both connected to my wi-fi, and it seems there should be a way to connect both of them using the wi-fi. The blu-ray player is DLNA, but the Mac isn't, so that is out of the question. Is there any other way to get these components to talk to each other over wi-fi?

There is a DLNA media server called MediaLink that is designed for use with the Play Station 3. It is not advertised as working with other DLNA clients but it usually will. I use it to stream audio, video and pictures to a WDTV media player in my bedroom. Works great, even supports iTunes playlists. I believe it still has a free trial period so you can see if it works with your player.

Blu-Ray player won't burn a disc. Error Code "0"

Hi all, haven't made the jump to CC so we are using CS6 for everything.
I just recently installed a SSD and deleted/fresh install of the CS6 suite onto the newly wiped internal HD. Everything works perfect, except Encore.
Encore is refusing to burn to a DVD. I have been using CS6 since it went public and I have never once had this issue for a Blu-Ray or a DVD. Now, it won't even recognize that a disc is in the burner. It keeps saying to put in a DVD or a Blu-Ray DVD, hit OK etc. I do this, repeatedly, to no avail. Now I have tried creating a Blu-Ray Image which works perfectly fine. However I couldn't get that Image to burn succesfully to a blu-ray. Now it burnt without an issue, (using windows default burner which may be the issue), but when put into the blu-ray player it is just a black image with no menus or anything.
Back to Encore, It will trans-code the files without incident, it's when it goes to the burning session it will not accept any disc I put in. This is for both a Blu-Ray and a regular DVD. I keep getting Error Code "0" or simply, "insert a blu ray or dvd media disc an hit OK". Occasionally I got "Adobe Encore Failed" and that is it. Not sure what to do. I've been trying to burn since this morning.
I gave in and bought Nero 2015 just now in the hopes I can burn the blu-ray image correctly. Do I have any other options as this needs to be done today as I have to be an event tomorrow.

Adding to that, I am not getting the message "The Device Is Not Ready" and you can hit Retry and endless number of times with no results. Or just cancel and then it says Building Failed. Thoughts?

No More Surround Sound on Blu-ray player after Upgrade in MediaSmart

When I used the Blu-ray player in my home theatre I selected the "HDMI pass through" mode to get surround sound. I came across some new movies that would not play and after the update from HP the player would simply freeze up as soon as there was audio present. I had to go into the task manager to shut it down.
MediaSmart works fine on the laptop, but it only freezes up when I use the "HDMI pass through" setting.
I have tried "HDMI pcm" mode and that doesn't work either. The Denon receiver shows there are five channels working but I only get stereo sound out of the front left and right speakers. This would indicate that the Blu-ray player is not outputting in 5.1 surrond sound and that the laptop and the Denon receiver is working fine.
Hp supports' solution was to reinstall the old driver or try a system restore. I know a system restore isn't going to do anything. The problem is in the new software. The new software did not work on my HDX18 when it was in Vista, it didn't work when I upgraded to Windows 7 and it doesn't on my new dv8.
I tried contacting CyberLink to let them know that the upgrade is giving problems, but I think they are ignoring me.
Personally I think that either HP or Cyberlink just forgot to add the drivers for 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound.
If someone were to find a solution to this one I would be surprised. I am quite certain I covered every possibility, but you never know.

OK, I found a solution. SORT OF. I use the laptop to watch region "B" Blu-ray movies that I buy out of England. Rather than set Media Smart to region "B" I purchased software from SlySoft.com. When the software is running it removes the region code and all that annoying copy protection. Fox is the worst, followed by Walt Disney. (Pixar Animation and Buena Vista) One specific movie that would not play on the old Media Smart software was "Ice Age 3 Dawn Of The Dinosaurs. When I tried, a red window came up prompting me to go to Cyberlink for an update. Of course after that the movie would play, but I had no surround sound in my home theatre.
So now I use the old Media Smart software and run SlySoft...no more red window...I have surround sound in my theatre through HDMI pass through.
The problem with this solution is that Slysoft costs around 114.00$ U.S. for a life time membership and free updates forever. HMMM.

Can I download to a Blu-ray Player

I currently have my internet set up to download to my Directv for Video on Demand and other Apps.
I have a Blu-ray player that has a USB port.
My Question :
Can I also download a movie/video to my Blu-Ray player via the USB or
Is there a way of downloading it into a flash drive and then allowing my Blu-Ray player to accept it and play it.
Do I need the Apple Tv unit and/or some other type of program ?
Obviously I would want it in either 1080p of at minimum 1080i.
I am not sure if this is the right forum section, if not would someone guide me to the right one.

the usb port on appletv is only for firmware updates
about if you can move movies from your bluray drive using it's usb port is doubtful as that would make it easy for people to pirate movies
and no the appletv can only do 720P even if the atv1 can upscale
if you can upload movies to your bluray player would likely be a question for the manufactory of your bluray players forum rather then here as you have not even stated the brand of your player

I just got the Sony BRAVIA 60" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LED-LCD HDTV and I have a Yamaha RX-V1800. I want to buy and hook up a Blu-ray player to both. What the best way to do this? Should I use the optical audio to connect the Blu-ray to the receive and the HDMI to connect to the TV? I really want to be able to use HDMI for the audio but then I'm left with only component video for the TV. I can't filter the sound through the TV, this does not work. Does optical produce good audio?

You have no idea what you are doing which is why your results are not pleasing. Simply connect the equipment with HDMI cables as instructed and use only Blu-Ray discs as they are full-resolution sources. Your Blu-Ray player applies upscaling and processing to your DVD which is why it looks like crap and your receiver would do the same depending on the settings. You also need to check the settings on your player and HDTV to get them both aligned for the best picture quality.
Well I did use HDMI cables, and I also checked all of the setting on both the receiver and the TV. I did not use a Blu-Ray or player as I have not bought one yet. So are you saying the only way to not get a blur when using this set up would be to only watch Blu-Rays?? That does not make much sense. Also I would like to say I have some idea what I'm doing but obviously not as much as many people on this site, that's why I posted my question here. Help hooking up new-Blu Ray player to old receiver

Hi,
I just bought a Blu-Ray player and was hoping to just pull the cables out of my old Proscan DVD player (which is hooked up properly to my receiver) and plug them into the new player.
However, the new player has space for two audio-out cables and one video-out cable (Y). The old player has the same two audio-out cables but has three video-out cables (Pb, Pr, and Y).
I tried just hooking the Y into the new player and leaving the other two cables unplugged, but that leaves me with a fuzzy image on screen.
Do I need some sort of converter, or should I have bought a Blu-Ray player with the same cable setup? The one I bought is a Samsung BD-D5700. None of my components are HDMI. My Denon receiver has the same 3 video-out plugs as the old DVD player.
I'd appreciate any help you can offer!

Blue ray player connection to web help

Just wondering if any iMac people have recently successfully connected their blue ray player to the internet? Apple tells me that I have to purchase "Apple TV" device. The Sony player (BDP-N460) I purchased said I only need to buy an additional 'Linksys-Cisco WET610N' wireless bridge and a LAN cable for it to work. Which is correct, or maybe both are, but which one is the more cost/efficient one? Thanks in advance!

I too have the same BD player and have just connected the WET610n bridge to my Airport Extreme -- it's just a question of configuring this-or-that. Only that Linksys put the manual on a Mac-incompatible CD.
You can find the product manual on this page which describes the unit, and then go to the downloads page, select Version 1.0 from the drop-down menu, and then a link to Mac-compatible setup wizard will display. Download it if you like.
There's an easier way. Make sure your player is plugged into your TV and turn the TV on. (In my case, I was configuring the bridge with a Sony Bravia HDTV. I assume a Mac would be no different.) Press the MENU key on the BD player remote and navigate to the leftmost menu item, a small suitcase. Scroll down to select Network Settings, then Network Connection Diagnostics. When it tells you the obvious that you're not connected, backtrack to Internet Settings.
Assuming you've plugged the Ethernet cable and bridge together, and connected the bridge to a power outlet, you can select Wireless Bridge Setup. Since your network is out there waiting to be found, select Scan, and then select your network. An onscreen keypad will open for you to enter your security key, after which you'll experience a minute or two as the bridge gets programmed and a connection is made to your network.
Return to the suitcase menu and select Network Update to see if new system software is available for the BD player itself. If there is, it will download and warn you NOT to turn the power off.
You should now be able to download content off the net.

Blue Ray Player Burner

I was wondering if anyone had been able to use an external Blue Ray player on their MBP? If yes, what brand, where was it purchased and does it work well?

External (or internal, for that matter) BluRay drives do work with the MBP, but for data only - and that requires 3rd party software (i.e. Toast). You cannot play 'commercial' BluRay movies on your MBP.

Looking for blu-ray player

I want to buy a blu-ray player to go along with my LG 42" HDTV. Since I don't use Netflix or any other internet streaming I don't think I would need to connect it wirelessly. However I want one that will not become obsolete in a couple of years. Appreciate any suggestions regarding make & model to buy.

If you want the best sound then go for the BDP-83SE, otherwise get the BDP-93.
Haven't heard of them? That's because they don't sell in big box stores, but their units win all the awards. Their BDP-83SE also is a recommended player by www.stereophile.com
They aren't the cheapest, but you must get the source material off the disc in the best way possible to not limit the rest of your system.

I just bought a 42'' Vizio 3D tv, and I have a ps3, and just bought a Vizio 3D blue-Ray player, but what to know if I should keep the Blue-ray player or take it back and get my money back I have not opened it yet I bought it and after I did I forgot my ps3 played 3D blue-rays.

I have a tube tv, but want to upgrade to a blu-ray player from my current dvd player. Is this possible?? I don't have the money right now for a hi-def TV. But if I can upgrade the player, it's a start. Anyone?

Surround Sound Not Working Correctly Since Connecting New Blu-Ray Player

I recently purchased a Sony VIZIO VBR200W Blu-Ray Player to go with my VIZIO VL420M LCD HDTV, and am having some audio issues. I have a RCA RT2770 Home Theater System, which is connected to the TV through the audio in/out composite (RCA) audio cables (audio in is to the RCA system, audio out is to the TV). The Blu-Ray Player and the XBox 360 are connected directly to the TV using HDMI cables. The problem is the sound coming out of the speaker system is a bit distorted when using the Blu-Ray player. I've also noticed quite a bit of feedback coming from both the TV speakers and the surround speakers when the TV screen is bright (loading menu's of movies, Netflix Instant Queue, etc.). I never had any issues with the sound from the 360, which has been hooked up this way since day one. Any suggestions on how to get the sound to be clearer?
OK, now I'm starting to worry that the feedback I got earlier caused some kind of picture quality issues in the TV itself! Before I make a fool of myself for asking stupid questions, is this even a possability? Help!!!

dumb question - but does your rca home theater have an optical input on the back of it? it will look like a trapazoid cover with sometimes the words "audio in"

Recently bought an LG 3D tv and an LG 3d Blue Ray player but am having problems with my setup

I bought a 47LA6200 TV and a BP530 blue ray player. I have my cable box hooked up to HDMI 1, I have my blue ray hooked up to HDMI 2, and my XBox 360 to HDMI 3. I have my cable box hooked up to my older JVC RX880V stereo digital optical to digital optical without any 5.1 problems at all. My TV digital optical out is hooked up to my stereo digital optical port 2 without any 5.1 problems either, sort of. My BP530 is hooked up to my stereo digital coax to digital coax but I cannot get any 5.1 sound at all. Not through any of the digital channels on the stereo at all. The player only comes through as standard stereo through all 4 speakers and I am not sure if it is coming through the base speaker at all. I have tried every setting on both the TV and the blue ray player to no avail. I have even tried to not use the digital on my blue ray but when the stereo is set to play from my tv optical I still don't get 5.1 sound. When I do not use the TV optical out but I do use the digital coax out from the DVD player I still cannot play my DVDs in 5.1. I have new HDMI 15gbps HDMI cables and a new digital coaxial cable so I don't think it is a cable thing.
The real question is how do I get to hear my blue ray and DVD discs in 5.1 sound? Will this work if I exchange my blue ray player for a Denon 3D blue ray or other player?
