  • Problem with installing CUCM on MCS-7816-I5

    Hi to all.
I have a problem with installing CUCM 8.6.1 on new MCS-7816-I5  (IBM) hardware. The problem is that installation loops in restart after upgrading MCS firmware. Actualy, installation does not sucessfully upgrade firmware, so every time it detects old firmware and trying to upgrade it.
I also tried update MCS firmware with downloaded Firmware Update Utility 3.6.5 CD from Cisco downloads, but it also fails.
Does anyone have idea what's going on? Is this a Cisco failure or IBM server failure?
Here is some details from log file generated with this Firmware Update Utility 3.6.5:

    Thanks,
    Sinisa.

    Hi Sinisa,
    It almost sounds like this bug;
    CSCtn81201
Incorrect "Hardware Configuration Error" due to hardware setup errors
    Symptom:
Refresh upgrade stops with IMM device detection, and then server being reported as unsupported
    Conditions:
in-band USB interface was disabled, which is configurable via IBM system X or IMM (browser) interfaces.
    Workaround:
change the in-band usb interface settings to enabled.

  • MCS 7816 H3 power button

    Hi
This is probably extremely easy to answer, but I have not had chance to play with the 7816, so cannot say for sure.
My customer has long power cuts which cannot be covered by a UPS for the full length of the cut. Hence, he has asked whether the power button on the 7816 is positive in the sense that once it is depressed, if it loses power supply, once that is restored, the server will simply reboot without having anyone maunally depress the power button to get it to boot? If not, then does ILO stay active when the server is off but power is being supplied to the device from the mains?
Thanks for your kind assistance in advance.
    Rgds
    Marc

I can't answer the power button question, but as for the iLo, yes, I do believe they stay active all the time. They run on internal batteries on the card, and they do receive power when the machine is off but is receiving power from the main.

  • The difference b/w 2 SKUs

    Hi,
Want to understand the difference b/w to GPL SKUs:
    Part Number: MCS-7816-I3-IPC1
Description: HW Only MCS-7816-I3 with 2GB RAM and One 160GB SATA HD
    and
    Part Number: MCS7816I3-K9-CMB2
Description: Unified CM 6.1 7816-I3 Appliance, 0 Seats
The price is the same for both entries. The hardware, I think, is also
similar. I suppose the first one (MCS-7816-I3-IPC1) does not contain any
CD/DVD software package. Whereas the second one (MCS7816I3-K9-CMB2) does.
    Am I right ?
Are there any other differences ?

    Hey Tobivan,
Life is great here! Hopefully for you as well :)
The "CMA/CMB" designation on the Part# does indicate a "pre-loaded" appliance. So yes, this server would be shipped with the Linux OS and Communications Manager 6.1 pre-loaded. The "IPC1" Version will not ship with any CCM discs and they will need to be ordered seperately :)
    Here are some examples;
The server appliance is preinstalled with an operating system and the Cisco Unified Communications Manager application. Cisco Unified Communications Manager is fully operational upon startup, requiring entry of just a few configuration variables such as IP address and domain.
    Product part number
    MCS7816H3-K9-CMB2
    Preload
    Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.1
    OS
    Included
    CMB1 = Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.0
    CMB2 = Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.1
    CMA2 = Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5.1

  • Cisco OS 2000.2.7 does not support MCS 7825I1 ?

    Hi Pros,
I have a new installation coming up of CCM 4.1.3 & Unity 4.0.5
Seems Cisco has sent wrong set of OS Cds for CCM. The Server is a IBM make (MCS 7825I1) with Prescott 3.4 CPU & 2GB RAM alongwith 2 * SATA 80GB HDD.
When I insert Hardware Detection CD for 2000.2.7 it says "This OS version does not support the detected server. Remove the disk and press any key to reboot.
    My BoM says:
    CM4.1-K9-7825= SW CallMgr 4.1, MCS-7825 2
    MCS-7825-I1-IPC1 HW Only MCS-7825-I1 with 2GB RAM
    and SATA RAID
    2
Can I install like this - Run IBM ServeRaid, Prep server, Insert Win2k cd, then after install run OS Upgrade 2000.2.7
    Will this work?
    Regards,
    Pratik

i am not sure why the CPU speed should matter.......
I don't know what to say, if you have the "a" hardware detection disk, this should work. I have never had a problem once i had the right media so i will step aside and wait to see if someone else can help.

    Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your entry..I would be really great if you can answer my below as I am not getting any solution for this.
I have to setup a lab enviornment for demonstrationg the Jabber technologies for our client.i am really new to jabber technologies and as per my understanding its a Softphone that we can install in PC and Mobile and has the features such as  IM,Presence and Web-ex.
the below link showing Jabber is supporting with  Windows now.
    http://www.cisco.com/web/products/voice/jabber.html
For my demonstration I only need to install Jabber on a windows PC and have to show the IM,Presence and web-Ex..

    Thanks in advance.....

  • CUCM 5.1.3 to 8.6.2 upgrade

    Hello,
I have to do an upgrade of a 3-node cluster CUCM 5.1.3d (5.1.3.5000-3) to 8.6.2. Hardware will remain the same. The servers support 8.6.2.
    I have two questions:
    - The upgrade path that I've chosen is: 5.1.3d (5.1.3.5000-3) -> 6.1.4a (6.1.4.2000-2) -> 8.6.2a (8.6.2.20000-2). I have already downloaded the upgrade images from Cisco site, but what concerns me is this paragraph from the 6.1.4a upgrade release notes:
    Caution
Use the ISO files that are mentioned in the
“Upgrading to Unified CM Release 6.1(4a) by Using the UCSInstall File” section on page 5 for upgrades from 6.1(1x) and later.
Upgrading to Unified CM 6.1(4a) from Unified CM 4.x and 5.x
Product Upgrade Tool (PUT) orthe PUT for registered customers only to obtain a media kit and license or purchase the upgrade from Cisco Sales.
Is this really the case? Will i not be able to upgrade from 5.1 to 6.1.4a using this media?
    - I have an idea for "optimizing" the upgrade procedure. Because the standard approach would be to execute two separate upgrade procedures for 3 servers, this could take a lot of time. I was thinking of doing this:
    1. Take a backup of the current CUCM 5.1.3d
    2. Install CUCM 5.1.3d on a virtual machine and restore the backup
    3. Upgrade the VM to 6.1.4a
    4. Upgrade the VM to 8.6.2a
    5. Take a backup of the VM CUCM 8.6.2a
    6. Take one of the subscribers and do a clean install of a Publisher CUCM 8.6.2a (same hostname, IP, etc as the real publisher)
    7. Restore the backup from the VM to the new publisher
    8. Reseat the license on the new publisher
    9. Switch the old publisher with the new one and let all phones upgrade and re-register
    10. Reinstall the other 2 nodes as subscribers to the new 8.6.2a cluster.
This is much easier to me because i can execute all updates in a non-production environment with zero risk. Only when everything is verified working will an actual migration take place. Then installing two subscribers is peace of cake and can be done even in business hours.
Any ideas what could go wrong?

I am facing a serious issue on this upgrade.
I did a DRS backup on the original cluster 5.1(3d)
    Then do a install on a staging MCS-7816 (4GB RAM) of 5.1(3c).
    Then upgrade it to 5.1(3d).
    Then restore the DRS backup.
So far so good everything goes smooth.
From now on i have two options for upgrade: To 6.1(2) or To 7.1(5)
Both of them fail after 1 hour or something with those errors:

  • Where can I get window os 2003 for unity 5.0(1) for MCS7835I1 platform?

    Dear All,
I didn't receive any DVD on window os 2003 for unity 5.0(1) for MCS7835I1 platform for my purchase.
I only have got the IP Telephony OS 2003.1.1 which stated in the document that it is not for Unity.
So I tried to open case to TAC but they asked us to look from Microsoft but I believed that normal window os will not be able to install on MCS sever, am I right? So where actually can I look for this window os?
    Thanks in advance
    Jarunee

    Hi Jarunee,
    You have 2 options:
    1) You purchased the MCS-7835-I1-ECS1, I would expect this one to come with the platform configuration disk (PCD). If you did not get this you will need to contact customer service as outline in this document
    2) You purchased another flavor of this server model such as MCS-7835-I1-IPC1 or directly from IBM. This will not come with the PCD. For this you will not get a PCD and you will need to supply the operating system yourself.
The installation guide covers both scenarios to set up Unity either with PCD or self supplied OS.

    Hi majd,
    If the Quantity of this part is equal to 2;
    LIC-CM7.0-7816=
    License CM 7.0 7815/7816 Appliance, 500 seats x 2
Then you are good to go
All Licenses (including the Node License) will be referenced to

  • MCS7825I5-K9-UCC2 redundant server

Hi we have a client using:
    a) MCS7816I5-K9-CMD2 as Call manager server, and on "CCM Node licenses feature" they have one used license and one remaining license.
    b) MCS7825I5-K9-UCC2 as Unity server.
Our client is asking for a backup proposal, and we have a pair of questions.
    1) Where we can verify if current MCS7825I5-K9-UCC2 server has support for a second Unity node??
    2) MCS7825I5-K9-UCC2 has an EOL/EOS report, and its recommended sustitute is MCS-7825-I5-IPC1, but this server does not come with Unity pre installed software. So we need to verify which software component is required to implemet a Cisco Unity backup server for this client.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Review HW support on above link.
You need the exact same release, along with ESs you might have installed on the failover server.

  • UCCX HA Licensing

Hi everyone, i have a question about HA Licensing...
    1. I already have an installation of UCCX 7.0 Premium, with the needed Seats.
    2. I'm buying ESW and UCSS to upgrade the software to an early version.
    3. I'm buying another MCS 7816-I5 to have HA.
    4. The question is: ¿What i need to buy to have HA in on my already implementation on UCCX 7.0?
    5. ¿Do i need buy CCX-70-PHA-7816I=?
    6. ¿Do i need any UCSS for CCX-70-PHA-7816I=?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Unfortunately UCCX 7.0 went End of Sale on 18 April 2011 so I do not think that you will be able to obtain the HA license.
The End of Sale notice can be found at the link below:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/custcosw/ps5693/ps7236/end_of_life_notice_c51-627280.html
I guess that you could try talking to your Cisco account team to see if they can supply a UCCX 7.0 HA license if you were to buy the equivalent 8.5 license you would need to order CCX-85-A-PHA-LIC ($14,995). Unfortunately you would pay the same as someone buying HA for an MCS 7845 as there is now no distinction between server models.
Another issue that you will have is that the MCS 7816-I5 is not supported by UCCX 7.0 - the page 33 of the compatibility matrix at the link below:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_compatibility/matrix/crscomtx.pdf
One piece of good news is that you do not need to buy additional UCSS for the HA license.
My recomendation would be to move to UCCX 8.5.
