MCS-7825 field notice

I am about to install CCM on MCS-7825-H2-IPC server and received following field notice:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/sw/voicesw/ps842/products_field_notice09186a00806de501.shtml
from reading it, it appears that the 2000.4.3a OS resolves the NIC issues, but not the SATA RAID issue, where a manual process is identified.
What is the suggested OS version for that server, using CCM 4.2.
Chris

Chris,
Check this doc. 7825-H2 only supports 2000.4.3a for new installs.

  • Lock-ups on MCS-7825 after after OS Upgrade to 2000.4.4aSR6

About 3 weeks ago, I upgraded some MCS-7825 & MCS-7835 servers to 2000.4.4aSR6. Since then, one of the 7825's has been rebooting on its own almost twice a day. The other 7825 and 7835s are operating fine.
Anybody else encountering a problem with this? I see in the release notes, some BIOS and firmware updates are included for the 7825, and am suspecting this is the problem.

My problems actually turned out to be hardware, I think. I reviewed the logs and found out it had been happening for several months.

Upgraded a big system on Saturday Oct 23. Field notice came out the previous day but I did not see it, so the bug gave me fits today.
Any config change, or getting the script lock, would cause the AW to bounce the UpdateAW process and rebuild the AW DB.

I see - the field notice does mention ICM 7.2(7)ES139.
Multiple occurrences of this issue have been observed since October 14, 2010
and on all Unified ICM/CCE releases. This is not a regression defect. The issue
occurs when a Microsoft SQL Server query operation is performed to compare the
'lastUpdateKeys' on AW and Central Controller/Logger, during the incremental
copying of configuration changes to the local AW. In addition, using the ICMDBA
tool to backup and restore the database with "Truncate Config Message Log"
option checked can lead to a similar issue that causes the ICM/CCE Router to
reject configuration updates. No UpdateAW restart is observed in this
    situation.
I mistakenly thought it was caused by the SQL upgrade from 2000 to 2005.
By the way, regarding defect CSCtj65060, I NEVER check that "Truncate Config Message Log" option when exporting the config.

  • Fan Errors on MCS-7825-I2

I have a new Unity server (MCS-7825-I2) that I began to load Unity on when I encountered a hardware error on the server. I pulled the cover and all the fan error LEDs are lit... Fan 1-5. I found this odd that all would fail. Is tehre a reset of these somewhere? Or do I just go ahead and order service?

The Cisco MCS 7825-I2 provides a system error LED and system locator LED on the front of the server to make pinpointing system problems easier than ever. When a system error occurs, this indication is made on the front panel of the Cisco MCS 7825-I2. If no failures have occurred, the system error LED is not lit.

  • Cisco MCS 7825-H3 Powers On, But Nothing More

I have a pair of Cisco MCS 7825-H3 CallManagers, and due to repeated power issues on our campus today, both went down ungracefully went power was lost...and stayed down. So we have no functioning phones on site.
At this point, both MCS 7825-H3's will power on. The hard drives lights flash, then go out (like normal).e The fans spin up fast and loud. But I get nothing else. On the front of the device, the system health LED is solid green, the network LED flashes green with activity, and the hard drive activity LED is solid green. A connected VGA monitor displays nothing.
I am at a standstill...and am not sure if this is a hardware problem, a software problem, or another problem altogether. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Steve

Steve - if the servers are showing blank screen on monitor connected to console, it appears they are not even initialising the POST process. It could be due to a faulty component - could be CPU, RAM, motherboard..anything....
Generally with this kind of issues,  you try to isolate faulty hardware, by rebooting without any component and see if it reaches POST. I would suggest open a case with TAC and I hope the servers have active maintenance.
On another note try changing the monitor cable etc. to rule out any issue with any cable or monitor (which i doubt would be the case) just to make sure and then try a reboot and see if you see anything on screen.

  • Verify physical hard disk drive health MCS 7825-H3 that installed CUCM inside it

    Hi Everyone,
I have Cisco MCS 7825-3 that installed CUCM ver 6.1.1 inside it. A few days ago the system was crashed and have been recovered. And the symtomp why the system crashed is because corrupted hard disk drive. Now the system is running well.
I want to verify the health status of hard disk drive MCS 7825. The logical drive is RAID 1 with 2 chunks (channel 0,1 and channel 0,2). So that i did the test to shut down the cucm and unmount on of the physical hard disk drive. After that i power on the server and running the system with just 1 hard disk drive (example just channel 0,1 and after verify channel i do the same task with channel 0,2). With just 1 hard disk drive if i show hardware in cucm cli , it showed that status of logical drive is degraded. But the system can run well (IP Phone registered and can do pbx features). And after do verify test with 1 hard disk drive, i mount the physical hard disk drive again so that the system running with all of hard disk drive mounted (2 chunks).
At first it showed in cucm cli that status of logical drive is degraded, but with current operation rebuild (indicated RAID 1 is rebuild again by the system). After up to 1 hour the process finished and the status of logical drive is optimal again.
The question i wanna ask, is there any method to know if the health of physical hard disk drive of MCS good or not beside the task i have done ?
Maybe we can show in the BIOS or cucm cli because i didnt find diagnose of physical drive in cucm cli but it can diagnose status of RAID, hard disk space and list file in hard disk drive.
    Thanks for your help.

  • MCS-7825-I4 Platform Disc Won't Use RAID1

We have an MCS-7825-I4 server which we are installing Unity 7.0 onto.
We have setup the 2 disks as RAID 1 in the BIOS and then boot from the correct Cisco Platform DVD. The Cisco setup then resets the RAID to 2 separate disks instead of RAID 1 and installs the Windows 2003 OS on the first disk only (with 2 partitions) and leaves the 2nd disk unused.
We then try and set the disks back to RAID1 (mirror) using the installed MegaRAID software that Cisco preinstalls, but it says that it cannot add a disk with an existing boot partition into a RAID array so this isn't possible.
We then try to set it again in the RAID settings on reboot via Ctrl-C but when trying to copy the contents of the first drive to the second, it says there is insufficient space on the 1st disk to do this and that it will have to erase the disk first in order to re-create the array.
This obviously leaves us once again with a blank server and when booting from the Cisco CD to install it resets the RAID back to 2 separate disks and we go in an endless circle!
Please can someone help us to get this server setup using the Cisco Platform disk in a RAID1 (mirror) configuration?
We do also have a retail Windows 2003 CD, so we can install using this instead of the platform disk if necessary, but I'm uncertain if the Cisco Windows key will work with this, can anyone confirm? Also this disk doesn't have the RAID drivers so does anyone know which drivers I'd need to download to do it this way? Obviously uaing the proper Cisco platform disk is our preference if possible...
    Thanks!

The platfor disc can be goofy to say the  least.
    Here is what i do.
I yank out all the drives except for the first 2 drives.  then I boot with the platform disc.
It will then automatically setup the RAID1 correctly.  You should not need to go into the bios utility to set it up.  If you do, the platform will simply reset it anyways.    The disc has (from what I have seen) has a problem if you have more than 2 drives  in the machine.
After the Platform is done and in windows (and done rebooting x times) I then go ahead and use the GUI utility to setup the other (2) discs as RAID1 and test the mirror after its built.
Once all the MIrrors are tested and working, I then start my Unity install

  • Trying to install OS on mcs-7825-h2 for unity

Hi, I'm trying to install w2k os on an mcs-7825-h2 but the smartstart cd (7.40) doesn't have the sata raid drivers.
As these servers don't have floppy disks has any one got any info on how to do this?
    Rgds Andy

do you have the cisco hardwareDetection CD for the version you are attempting to install? if so, use this to boot and prep your 7825.
if not, download the latest smartStart CD (ISO file) from the following location:

  • ASR1000 Field Notice 63764 Memory Failure

Looking at this Field Notice, it cuts a wide path on what might happen, but it does not tell how to tell if my customers have an affected ASR until it fails, which is not good.
It points to the PIDs that are affected but it does not give a range of VID or SNs that might be affected.
Is that information available without having to open a TAC case?
    Thank you

It points to the PIDs that are affected but it does not give a range of VID or SNs that might be affected.
    Richard,
I believe this critical item is not handled well.
The answer to your question above is YES and NO.
NO:  I don't believe Cisco knows which items, based on serial numbers or date of manufacturing, wre affected.
YES:  You can do yourself a favour by deciphering the date of manufacturing based on your serial number and determine if your appliance falls between the date announced by Cisco.
Take an ordinary serial number, FFFYYWWSSSS.
    FFF = Factory Code
YYWW = Year and week of the calendar when the appliance was manufactured.
    SSSS = Alpha-numeric serial number.
Now, this year is 2014.  The "YY" values should be "18".  2013 is "17", 2012 is "16", 2011 is "15" ,etc.
Those are the only four values which play an import role in this Field Notice.

  • Upgrade from MCS 7825 - Licensing Issues

I have a MCS 7825 installed at my office.  Since cisco has declared an EOL for the above product, we need to upgrade.  We have been suggested 7816 I4.  I have the following queries.
    1.  Is the 7814 I4 a good replacement for 7825?
    2.  We have some 7912 IP Phones with us.  Can they be used with 7816 I4.  If so, what are the licenses that we need to buy?
    3.  Is video conferencing possible in 7816 I4.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Depends, if you plan to have more than 2 servers then no.
When using 7815/7816 the only supported deployment is 1+1 and cannot be mixed with other models in a cluster.
If you're going to have only 1 server or 2 tops then you can use.
BUT most importantly, that model only supports 300 users. 7825 supports 1000 users.

  • Installation of CCM 6.1.2 on IBM MCS-7825-I4 V03 'drivers not found'

    Hi all,
Wondering if anyone can help me resolving the issues that I'm experiencing while performing the installation of CCM BE 6.1.2 on the MCS server, receives an error that 'driver not found'.
the media iso image of ccm has no issues, thinking firmware is not compatible so have upgraded firmware twice to FWUCD-221-1 and FWUCD-3-6-5-1 while installing ccm still the same error.
Collected DSA and TAC has provided to IBM, they think no issues with hardware and CD/DVD drive may not be compatible, not convinced with their findings, so decided to post the case in this form, as I know real guru's are here :)
    Much apprecited.

Hello, I ran into the same thing this evening but had no idea about this bug! I wish I was subscribed to the right email group!
But I went to that site you mention, got FWUCD-2.4.1-I.iso (550MB) from Cisco's software page, burned it and ran it on the server in bootup.
It updated the BIOS to 1.45 and also the Broadcom NIC cards.
Everything is up and dandy on our Unity Connexion 1.2, soon to be Version 7.x.
