MD5 and NTP on solaris

Hello
I want to use a solaris box as an NTP server but the cisco boxes use MD5. My questions are:
Is MD5 supported on Solaris?
If not is there an alternative that both support?
Are there any configuration docs for MD5 and NTP for solaris?
TIA
Andrew

Sure !! support
You must set the key at /etc/inet/ntp.keys
somthing like this

  • NTP on Solaris 10.

    Hi,
New to Solaris 10. Can you direct me about the download and installation procedure for NTP on Solaris 10 Sparc.
    Thanks in advance !

There are (at least) 2 clocks in the system. There's the hardware TOD clock which is long-term pretty stable.
Then there's the system (UNIX) clock. Generally stable, but can drift significantly over time. Normally it's reset to the TOD clock periodically. If that were to happen while NTP was watching, it would get very confused about the "true" frequency.
Normally when NTP starts, it disconnects the linkage with the TOD clock so that the behavior is stable and the unix clock can be driven. If you start NTP, but it fails to synchronize, then the clock can drift off much faster than it would have if NTP had not started in the first place.

How can I investigate what's the source of the problem? Is there a way to get pacman to tell me which package it is that is trying to pull in openntpd? (Or does anybody know right away how to resolve this issue?)
Oh, by the way: "pacman -Sii openntpd" says
    Required By : networkmanager-dispatcher-openntpd
    but I don't use networkmanager.

    Ha, how stupid of me...
I thought openntpd was being pulled in, but it was already installed (by me, apparently) although I've never used it. Removing it by hand before upgrading resolved the problem. Thanks!

  • Metadevices and Upgrade from Solaris 2.6 to 8

    Hello,
I want upgrade my current Solaris system from 2.6 to 8. My filesystem are mirrored metadevices including root partion. Are there any problems during upgrade? Did anybody recommend to detach metadevices and mirrors?
    Thanks in advance
    Ivette

The wikipedia page on solaris http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solaris_(operating_system) shows the changes in the system as newer versions came out. I'd highly suggest getting a test box and setting up Solaris 10 on it, and getting a feel for the new install and in particular, ZFS. It's been a number of years since I last used 2.6, but Solaris 10 is vastly better in many ways, including stability. With ZFS you also don't have to use fsck. The best features of Solaris 10 are the new ZFS file system, zones, snapshots, and the new services (rather than rc scripts). If you are going to set up Solaris 10, it's best to immediately start with bootable ZFS file systems rather than trying to upgrade your UFS file systems later. Security is also vastly improved over 2.6, as well as not having to use the old OpenWindows. Also find out what changes you'll need to make to have your old apps run, with all the changes in libraries and stuff since then.

  • C and C++ applications - Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 transition

I am about to be involved in the process of building and deloying C and C++ applications on Solaris 10, that currently are built and run on Solaris 8. I do not anticipate significant problems, based on a review of the Solaris 10 release notes (particularly the End-of Software statements). However, I was curious to know if any one from the the Solaris community may have lessons learned that they would be willing to share in regards to this activity.
    Thanks,
    HLK1

  • Request Native Ability to Calculate CRC, MD5, and SHA Hashes

// Requested via the Feedback tool also //
Provide the ability to calculate and generate CRC, MD5, and SHA hashes via a right-click context menu without having to resort to third party tools.  In some environments, policy does not allow for certain applications.  Having this ability natively
would really help to verify files.
This has been requested during the preview stage of Windows 7 and Windows 8.  Asking again here.

That works perfectly!  Thanks.  I did not know that was available.

    word!
    second that.
This is really hard to follow, even for us who keep an eye on every update and read every single post and have an imagination of update problems out there.
You tried to make digitalpublishing.acrobat.com (the "dashboard") the one-stop place for downloading and updating all necessary tools. good idea to make this the central point, because adobe.com download sections is a pain in the arse when trying to find updates for secondary tools like the DPS.
also, make it super-duper clear what version is the current and what versio are currently available. I already wrote about lining up version numbers months ago and you seem to get this working — but it is still a mess. 1.7 vs 1.1.7 vs. 2.0 vs. drop17 vs. 11.4.2.201111104_m_670635 7.5.5.16 (you can imagine where I took the latter from)

  • MD5 and RSA - Slow performance  - Help / Views Required

    Hi,
    I am facing a problem while signing a message.The
    scenario is:
I have to create 20,000 messages to be sent to
clients. I am encrypting the message using MD5 and
    RSA.
But when i am encrypting via RSA it takes about 20
mins to encrypt the 20k messages.I dont know why its
taking so much time. I have max 4-5 mins to manipulate
and send messages. The sample code is as follows:
ur earliest help will be quite helpful.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Sabre,
I have compiled the simple code from JCE tutorial for DES. The output text it is showing is different than input text.
Is there any problem going on in tutorial's example ?

  • Hashing of the password field using MD5 and then store in the XML

    Hi,
I need to design a form with User ID and a Password field. When i extract the XML from the form i need to hash the password field using MD5 and then store it. Does anyone have some kind of experience in doint it. Can you please suggest some way to do it.
    Thanks,
    Sayoni.

    Hi,
To hash password you can use function from http://kevin.vanzonneveld.net/techblog/article/javascript_equivalent_for_phps_md5/ or try to find another implementation. Just call this function on some event like button click for example.
Also I made some example. See attach.

  • MD5 and RSA

    Hi,
I need to create a secure key using a string end encrypting it using MD5 and after is RSA, I found a couple of MF to create the MD5 key but I can't find whow to encrypt it now using RSA.
    Any idea?
I'm in Mexico City and here is a treasury requirement to do it in this way, thanks in advanced for your help.

    Hi,
The one case I know is the code download the file to server then call an OS command that will encrypt the file. You can also make the encrypted file is sent to e-mail.

  • Scope and Career in Solaris OS 10

    Hi,
My company is giving me a project (OMC or department) wherein I am to work on Solaris OS. However, my company is going to provide me with the training of Administration and Treoubleshooting of Solaris OS 10 (Technically the training would be at Level 2).
I have expertise of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 at RHCE Level. I have interest in learning more on UNIX.
So, my main question is: What would be my career or future in Solaris? Would I be working on a totally new technology? Would my understanding of UNIX and Linux be of a great help or not at all? Also, money or salary-wise, can I expect a good package after acquiring skills in Solaris OS?
    With regards,
    Dev.

Most of what you are asking is a matter of opinion and or geographically specific. I have found that there are quite a few similarities with rhel and solaris. What you will find a lot is that files may be similar in their configuration but are in different locations in solaris than in rhel. The way of configuring solaris as compared to rhel will be different as well. Solaris doesn't have as many built in configuration tools like rhel has, system-config...etc. Most of it will be done by hand via files or during initial set up.
Personally I love solaris, I feel it is a great OS that has a lot to offer. It is very stable.

  • Audit useradd and userdel on solaris..

    Hello Folks,
How can i enable auditing of useradd and userdel on solaris..
i work for a siem vendor and need to capture the message id generated for these actions..
    Any help appreciated..
    Thanks

    Thanks Soorya,
form what i have read over the internet, that flag captures everything except useradd and userdel..
Can you confirm setting that flag will indeed capture these 2 activities?
    Many Thanks

  • Lms install without dns server and NTP

I know it sounds weird but ATM the deployment does not include this two cause the network is meant to be totally closed
and ntp server will be implemented soon
is there a way to ovecome this?
how to set time in appliance bios? UTC? localtime?
    domain? (localdomain)?
    dns? (127.0.0.1)?
    thank you in advance

It can talk NTP and DNS to any device on the network supporting the protocol.
LMS talks NTP but takes the time from anyone. It doesn't verify the stratum. Any switch/router talking NTP will do.
You could even run a DNS service on the server it self.
    Cheers,
    Michel
