MDCrashReportTool

My iPod has gotten pretty close to its limit so I decided to sync all music using the "convert high bitrate songs to 128 kbps AAC" option and everytime I do it the MDCrashReportTool pops up and then iTunes freezes without doing anything to the songs on the iPod, have searched other forums but no luck on how to fix this.

Two items:
First you are not running 10.5.4 - that might be an issue.
Second you should be in the iPhone forum here:

  • MDCrashReportTool is crashing

Lately MDCrashReportTool crashes nearly every time I sync my iPhone 3GS to my laptop. I've tried cleaning out the CrashReporter logs folder on my PC, but that didn't work for long. It still frequently crashes. Any ideas?

This reply is more by way of observations and recountings-of-past-experience than further advice waltz. It sounds like you've got a good line of investigation going off your own bat there.
Before looking into drivers I rebooted everything and renamed a Smart Playlist called Podcasts - I was suspicious that designating this as a Genre in Songs (which has worked fine till now) might be causing a problem in iOS4. Whatever I did suddenly the sync worked. I have not seen the error message again. I was asked by pop-up to confirm changes in Itunes again (even though I had already applied them and synced.
That's really interesting (and a bit eerie). User account specific problems like that in iTunes haven't typically cited ntdll.dll as the faulting module (for earlier versions of iTunes at the very least). That's more of a Safari for Windows quirk. (When I see ntdll.dll showing up for safari errors, I immediately start thinking about user-account-specific issues like damaged preference or settings files.)
There was a podcast-related source of crashing-on-sync in earlier versions of iTunes, when there was a somehow-dodgy podcast stored on the Touch/iphone itself. But in those cases the faulting module was usually a QuickTime component of some description.

  • MDCrashReportTool quits on plug in of iPhone 3G

I am fairly sure I am on the only person who has a situation like this, but whenever I plug in my iPhone 3G. I get this a message saying "MDCrashReportTool unexpectedly quit" Does anyone else have this problem and if so is there a way you know how to fix it (e.i. a terminal command, a patch-- anything)
It really doesn't mess anything up that I know of, but it is still a inconvenience.
Here is a link to a screenshot of the window that appears.
    www.davidbeaman.biz/pictures/Picture%201.png

I've had this problem across a few restores; one thing you can try if it annoys you a lot is to open Terminal and run:
    sudo chmod -x /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/Resources/A ppleMobileDeviceHelper.app/Contents/Resources/MDCrashReportTool
It'll ask for your password and then prevent anyone from executing the application. You can undo it with:
    sudo chmod +x /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/Resources/A ppleMobileDeviceHelper.app/Contents/Resources/MDCrashReportTool

I have a trouble with error in Itunes during Synchronisation with my Ipod, those Error is like discontinued operation of the program "MobileBackup", then pops one more error but without MobileBackup there is about MDCrashReportTool, then my synchronisation is stoping. Help me Please!:(

  • MDCrashReportTool crashes every time iPhone 3G is synced with iTunes

Every time I plug in my iPhone 3G to sync with iTunes, MDCrashReportTool unexpectedly quits.
I've reported it a bunch of times, but I think things run a bit smoother if I just relaunch it. Is anyone else getting this? Has anyone gotten rid of this problem?

Restoring the iPhone seems to have fixed the problem. In response to SMRS: I think that we should all qualify for the title of "newly restored" since the new OS/firmware has only been out for a week. Installing the new system was effectively a "restore" because it wiped the phone and re-wrote it from backup to begin with. I agree, though, that we shouldn't have to be restoring our phones a week after we upgrade the system. That's just nonsense.
In any case, give the restore a try and let it load the backups; I'm curious to see if it solves the problem for you like it did for the rest of us.

  • MDCrashReportTool takes over a processor

Upgraded to 9.0.3.15 itunes and gen1 8GB ipod touch, running 3.1.3 firmware
Now I'm finding that MDCrashReportTool takes 50% of the processor and after an hour it is still at this level. My guess is taht it has 100% of one of the processors of the dual core unit, and is either therefore rogue or really has a lot of data to send. Having looked at my crashlogs, they're not insigificant, but on the other hand they're not this much processing.
    Bug?

Now I'm finding that MDCrashReportTool takes 50% of the processor and after an hour it is still at this level.
I know of a few things that might possible cause that, chap.
Checking first on security software. What security software do you have installed on the PC? (Firewall, antivirus, antispyware?)

I made this stop by using iTunes to Restore the iPhone. Takes a long time (like, half an hour), but it does restore all your settings as well as the software. I suspect this will only be a temporary fix, though.
There are reports that you can make this stop by removing or renaming MDCrashReportTool. On OS X, it's at
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Resources/AppleMobileDe viceHelper.app/Contents/Resources/MDCrashReportTool
    On windows, see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1376735&tstart=0
These strike me as hazardous, as updaters might not like your messing about where you're not welcome.
What I think I've learned from all this: Looks like
    1. when an app crashes in the iPhone (I've had several), something is recorded there
    2. next sync, the crash record is uploaded to the host (Mac or PC)
    3. if you chose to do so during installation, this is sent to Apple for their bug-fixing pleasure
    4. this would be handled by this MDCrashReportTool thing
    5. but there's a bug in that
Resetting the iPhone, I suspect, cleared the record of old crashes, but the next time I have an app crash, it'll start all over again.

  • Please Help-Mac Newbie-Am I Supposed to have Appletalk? MenuCracker?

Hi there, I'm hoping you'll take pity on me...:) I purchased a MBP in May and everything has been cooking along nicely--until... Over the past few days it has been acting a bit of squirrely. I purchased a new iPod touch 3 days ago and tonight it would not sync with iTunes. In fact, it wouldn't even show up in iTunes. I tried multiple times/variations (I am not new to iTunes or iPods), but nothing worked. The USB ports were fine, as were the cables, etc... Upon restarting, my system just sat there "clocking" for several minutes. I then forced a shutdown, and it took longer than normal to restart, but now seems to be fine.
When I checked in Console, I was surprised to see a lot of activity with AppleTalk and that MenuCracker was recently downloaded. I do not know what either of these are doing on my system as it says MenuCracker was installed after the latest restart. Also, there is a lot of "kernel" activity.
Again, I am new to Mac--my last Mac was 19 years ago. Any advice you could give, or just tell me this normal--thanks so very much!
I'm sorry about the length of the log--I really didn't know what was important (if anything).

It would appear that MenuCracker came with iStat. Though I haven't heard of chronic problems with iStat, if problems persist you might remove it and see if matters improve. Otherwise it may have just been a transient error, which can happen from time to time for any number of reasons from obscure software bugs to power surges or static electricity. If things seem to be working correctly now, I wouldn't worry about it unless the problem reappears.
And yes, AppleTalk is still included in Mac OS X, for use with older printers. If you have no need for AppleTalk, you can reverse the procedure found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8302.html
If you encounter any problems connecting to printers after turning off AppleTalk, just turn it back on.

  • Macbook pro 2011 running slow

    Problem description:
my computer has been running ridiculously slowly to the point I am wondering if I am supposed to be upgrading to a different computer?  Applications, documents, everything takes forever to open. Also Microsoft Word crashes pretty often. . . Then I ran the EtreCheck and am now fully freaking out from the multiple red lines reading FAILED. I am not at all computer savvy . . . I saw on another thread that I should uninstall Mackeeper? I have attached my EtreCheck info below for my system. But honestly, is this something I a very motivated novice can tackle or should I be taking the device in some where to get repaired? Is the latter is the case, where do people recommend? Geeksquad at BestBuy or the Apple store? I am at a total loss and my computer is my livelihood . . .
Thanks in advance for the support and direction!

It's no problem. That's what we are here for.

This is the one I would recommend. It is relatively inexpensive and supports Firewire 800. Plus, it is swappable so once you remove your existing hard drive, you can just plug your old hard drive in there to restore your files. When you buy a new computer at some point, it will support USB 3.0. Should you need to buy another hard drive for additional backups or archives, you can just plug it in. I have an external drive very similar to this and it is very useful. Your machine does not support USB 3.0, so you would be on USB 2.0. Your machine does support Thunderbolt, but external Thunderbolt drives are much more expensive. For a backup drive, that isn't critical.
Since you are doing a major swap out of components, make sure to turn Time Machine off on your current system before you start. Do one last backup, then turn Time Machine off. You want to keep your existing backups in pristine condition until things settle down. Once you have restored onto your new hard drive and everything looks good, you can turn Time Machine back on and point it at your new hard drive.
Post back if you have any problems.

  • Adding a new PDF to the library of books to use in iBooks via iTunes fails

Hi everyone who is not a beginner at his/her mac,
I try to add a new PDF file the my iBooks Library using the iTunes app, but this does no more work for me. I looked in the System log and found that there is a problem to put a finder window to front.
A part of the messages which could be related to this problem are:

What is the reason for this behavior? How to fix it ?
The next problem is reported in the log file with the following:
    2014-01-26 18:54:17 +0100 MDCrashReportTool[464]: 464:3674112|CrashReportCopierAFC.m:-[CrashReportCopierAFC copyAndProcessRemotePath:usingConnection:]| ERROR: Could not remove remote path at ./DiagnosticLogs/security.log.20140119T105324Z.gz
I would be lucky if someone could help.

If it's a zip file that just contains the classes,
then (brilliant insight here) change it's name so
that it's a jar file. If it's a zip file that
contains a bunch of documentation and readme files
and also a jar file that contains the classes, then
extract that jar file and use it.Do you mean that the only difference between jar files and zip files is the extension name???

  • IPod Touch stuck on "syncing"...

i really don't know what started this issue, starting today when i try and sync my ipod touch it just sticks on "syncing ipod touch" (waited 15+ minutes), doesn't say what it's sending as it would before. i can cancel the sync on the ipod touch with no issues (and after that the ipod still works fine, but no updated content, now with no content since i wiped it clean). then after if I cancel sync in iTunes it then sticks for ever (waited 5+ minutes) on "canceling sync", then if i click eject (and confirm with the pop-up) itunes completely freezes up and i have to force quit the program (it then gives option to submit an error report to apple, which i have once). so that happens every time, here's what i've tried so far.
-full reset via itunes, including backup of data (the backup info [bookmarks, wifi memory, etc] gets sent to the ipod with no issues).
-reseting via ipod's own settings menu "erase all content and settings"
    -reinstalling itunes 7.5
-tried different usb port, tried different usb > dock cable
-tried to sync contacts only, movies only, music only (each attempt, no result)
only thing i haven't done, is after a full firmware/hardware reset to select "start as new device" instead of using my backup data... but i don't really want to reprogram my bookmarks in safari. any further suggestions? is the hardware pooched? do i need to rebuild my entire itunes library?
    thanks.

Hey! I just solved the issue for myself. I don't know if it is the same problem, but try to hit CTRLALTDEL to bring up Task Manager. Look below the tab "Processes" - is there one or more processes called "mdcrashreporttool.exe"? If so, this is probably the problem.
Do this: Restart your PC. When you have done this, go into your Program Files folder, then Common Files-folder, and again Apple-folder. Double click on the "bin"-folder and delete the file "mdcrashreporttool.exe".
This completely solved the issue for me.

  • IPhone 3G Disconnected while upgrading. Now it is not working!!

    Hi.
I have attempted to upgrade my iPhone 3G from 3.1.2 to iOS 4.1.
    This is exactly what happened:
    - Since I had an old iTunes version on my Win XP laptop, I had to uninstall and install the newest version (10) of iTunes.
    - I connected my iPhone to iTunes, and it automatically detected that I need to upgrade (!!!), so I hit update
    - After downloading the 4.1 OS for my iPhone, it started extracting the update
    - After extracting the update it validated it with Apple server
    - After that the iPhone restarted and it started to install (no progress on the progress bar, though!!)
==> I am not sure at this point if there was an accidental disconnection or not!!!
-- The iTunes gave an Error and the iPhone is not functional anymore
Now, the iPhone only runs in DFU mode, and requires to be connected to iTunes
When I connect it to iTunes, it says that it needs to restore it.
When I try to restore, it gives me Error code 3014.
I have googled this error code, but it is not working
I tried to upgrade to an older firmware, but it gives me Error Code 9 in iTunes.
    One more thing I notices:
Every time I try to upgrade, and right after it gives the error in iTunes, I get a windows error that an application called "MDCrashReportTool" has encountered a problem and needs to be closed and that I need to send a report to Microsoft (The regular windows send/don't send dialog!!!)
Please help me with this, as I am extremely worried about my iPhone!!!

Any suggestion could help, even if you think it would not

  • ITunes won't detect iPhone 5

You're most likely connecting a mobile device with a USB cable that is either faulty or incompatible. Try another cable and disconnect all other USB devices. The device itself, the USB port on the Mac, or another device on the bus could also be at fault.

  • IPhone is lost while syncing with iTunes

    Hi there,
for the longest time my iPhone hasnt been very friendly when syncing with iTunes.

This has long been a problem for me (since I had it), I've been re-installing iTunes for several times - it only got better once when I had 8.1 fresh reinstalled, but that's history now since there's iOS 3.0 and iTunes 8.2.
I've also checked this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1988855&start=0&tstart=0
The error messages are not quite the same, it also didn't fix my problem. Have removed all stuff from MobileDeviceService and MobileDevice.framework and so on rebooted afterwards, reinstalled iTunes 8.2 - nothing helps - it only keeps getting worse.
What can I do to make my iPhone sync again!?
    Thanks in advance,

  • ITunes can't sync. "sendMuxSegment connection was closed"

My iPad 2 can't seem to sync.
I've rebooted the Mac and the iPad several times.
I've check the computer with Disk First Aid and all checks out fine.
I thought it might have something to do with the iPad not being on the latest iOS, so I upgraded to 6.1.3, but iTunes continues to behave the same way.
It is able to get through the backup, and didn't have any issues with teh upgrade to 6.1.3, but as soon as it starts the last step of syncing, it finishes. When I checked the Console application it said:
2013-03-27 8:03:07.632 PM com.apple.usbmuxd[67]: MuxTCPInputSCE received RST for 0x7-[REDACTED]@0xfd130000:49353->0x10020d6a0-MDCrashReportTool/NULL:41729: sendMuxSegment connection was closed
I have the latest XCode installed and am doing ad hoc distribution to my iPad 2. (Not sure if it's relevant.) When I launched XCode after update it started pulling "symbols" from the iPad. Then it, too, threw the same error.
2013-03-27 8:19:28.149 PM com.apple.usbmuxd[67]: MuxTCPInputSCE received RST for 0x7-[REDACTED]@0xfd130000:49543->0x100502850-Xcode/com.apple.dt.Xcode:12034: sendMuxSegment connection was closed
Neither iTunes or XCode created any alerts about the error. Both fail completely silently except for the notation in the Console.
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks,
    Colin
    iTunes 11.0.2
    Mac OS X 10.8.3
    XCode 4.6.1
    iPad 2 6.3.1

    Resolved.
A few months ago, I enabled some restrictions on the iPad to prevent my son (4) from getting constant requests for in-app purchases, including restricting installing or deleting apps. I assumed this would be limited to someone interacting directly with the iPad, not extend to an iTunes sync session.
Really, Apple? You couldn't spare a little warning: "Please enable app installation on the iPad and re-sync."
