MDD mic port

I was reading some of the threads regarding the mic port on the MDDs (because I can't seem to get mine to work with the mics I have). Turns out the old Apple talk mic isn't compatible (no prob). Used 2 other newer mics, doesn't work (but they work on my...ahem...PC). Then I read something about "mic preamps" that you connect your mic to, to boost the voltage going into the port. But these are expensive, and completely pointless for day to day use.
No ordinary mic will work in the in-line port. Why is it like that with these MDDs. My older G4 never needed anything like that? I plugin any mic, and boom, it works.
I also read about iMic. But that connects via USB. So what's the point of having that line in port if you can't use it. Unless, of course, your willing to dish out some cash for preamps. All I want to do is talk with friends on-line via webcam, and use voice recog apps.
Anyone have a simpler alternative to get a mic working on this system? Perhaps a mic that's built specifically for the MDD.
Thanks.
G4 MDD Dual 1GB, 1.5GB ram, LG DVD-RW + Superdrive Mac OS X (10.4.8) 80GB, 120GB, 2x 250GB HDs, Radeon 9000 128MB

Well, after some searching for these "mics with their own power supply", I have found out there is no such thing. The closest answer I've gotten is plugging a mixer (using a 3.5mm jack to RCA audio input jacks) to the available input port. And then plugging any old mic to that mixer/audio board.
That or the iMic. I don't like speaking ill will of Apple, and rarely do. But boo to them for this. Something as simple as using any mic (as you could with previous G4s), now becomes an expensive (not to mention unnecessary) venture.
Just wondering why Apple did this, and only for the Quicksilver and MDD models? Other than the obvious "cash cow".
Looks like I'll have to get a USB mic. The question now, is will ANY USB mic (not headset with mic) work on the MDD?

  • Need help on Audigy 2, mic port is not work

Well, here it goes. I just recently formated and reinstalled windows. I did the dri'ves for my card, got all the sound out puts working. When I go to use my mic, I can not get it to even work. I changed my mic's out and still got nothing. I looked at all the input opitions, messed with mute and unmute still nothing.
I would gladly be greatful if someone could help to releave this problem of mine.
    Thanks!

Those drivers are fine for your card.
Onboard sound is a separate sound 'card' which is integrated into motherboard ... it normally becomes disabled automatically when another audio device is present but not all systems does this w/o changing some BIOS settings regarding Onboard Audio.
You can disable the onboard sound through "Device manager" by just selecting "disable"? on device properties for onboard sound.
Did you run the mmsys.cpl and checked if those play and recording devices are correcttly set ... also, as you maybe don't? have Creative Surround Mixer available, then did you enable the Mic port (start run... sndvol32.exe (sndvol32.exe /R for recording options)?
Are you sure you have connected the microphone correctly (check on the user's guide (you'll find one from downloads if you have lost your CD))?

  • To acess the mic port on the motherboard

i m building a lan chatting softwere. i got stuck in the problem to acess mic port on the motherboard. please help me out of this problem.thanx

There is not really a "mic port on the motherboard". It's part of the soundcard, and it's AFAIK represented by the soundcard's "recording device" driver. Did you ever have a look at JMF?

  • Anyway to get combo headphone/mic port to work on Win7 (iMac 27" '13)

    Hi,
I just ordered a split cable for the 3,5mm headphone/mic port to be able to use my headset. OS X recognizes the headset - it changes from the internal mic to the external, so no problem with that. But when using Windows 7 (Bootcamp, not virtual) it's not possible to select the external mic, there's only iMac's internal mic listed in "Recording devices".
No doubt this is a driver issue, but is there any solution for it? And yeah, I could buy USB headset or external audio interface, but let's forget those options for now. Sorry if asked (and it surely is) many times before, couldn't find anything with google.
    Thanks!

  • Mic Port Problem

I bought a Toshiba Notebook around Christmas. Recently, I bought a Mic and noticed the port has something in it so I can't use the port. How can I get this fixed?

What Toshiba notebook did you buy? What is the full model number/name? What is your model's part number? You can find this info on the Toshiba label on the bottom of your laptop. Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?
Exactly what make and model of mic did you buy? What port has something in it? Mic port? USB port? Does your model not have a built-in mic?

  • Mic port issues

    Hello,
Is there a setting or a pci card to correct a faulty "mini mic-in" port that originally came with the computer? We have tested it with many mics and also have gone to the system preferences and tried working with the sound function of the computer to no avail. My other computer works just fine with the mics that we tested and sound function in system preferences. What would be my next step? Would appreciate any feedback

  • Mic does not work in Valve ga

I have a Creative Labs X-Fi Platinum sound card with the li've dri've bay
extension. I have tried using the mic input on the soundcard card itself and
I have tried using the mic2 inputs and the aux line2 inputs on the dri've
bay. I configured the Creative software and the control panel audio options
for either microphone and the bay inputs and I still can not send chat audio
in games. When I test my mic with sound recorder I get a reading and it does
recoed my voice but when I go into a game the games do not receive my audio.
I tested the audio levels in Day of Defeat and Counter Strike Source in the
options / voice menu. Both programs show the mic working when I do a
microphone test but when I finally go into the game itself again no good I
can not transmit any voice. When I do the microphone test in Sound Recorder
or in X-Fire I here my voice while I talk and then I hear my voice again
with a slight delay. I have the I have tried 2 different headsets that I
know work but still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    My system is:
    Win XP Pro SP2
    AMD dual core 4800+
Sound card Creative Labs X-Fi Platinum
Asus A8n-SLI Premium Mobo (on board sound disabled)
    EVGA 8800GTX
    G Cosair Xtreme mem
All hardware and software have the latest patches and drivers installed.

Your line in or mic in on the I/O bay should show up as line in or Mic in -2. These will not show up as just generic since you obviously have front I/O bay and rear of the sound card jacks. You do have to change your recording source in your mixer before entering the game in Creative control panel, as well as your windows recording properties. change it first in the Windows Recording properties, and then make sure it matches in your Creative Audigy control panel. Do a recording test first using Windows sound recorder. Battlefield 2 may be similar to Call of Duty. I talked to the game developers' studio and they had said that their respecti've games primarily look for the mic on the back of the card and have no provisions for looking for other mic ports that may be avaiilable. This also causes wrinkles with Ventrilo. Mapping your "default recording device" in the Windows Control Panel, and then the Creative Control Panel is cruciial. On my system for example, I use my X-Fi Titanium with my cooler master front panel jacks. But if I run the game once with the headset and mic plugged in to the front jacks, play the game and exit, and then unplug the headphones and mic, the back jack becomes the default again immediately. In my control panel, when my mic is plugged in it says, "Microphone FP". When I unplug it, it only lists "microphone" as a choice. Also with my card I have to set the Flexijack in the back of the card to microphone and not "line in".

  • Your Question:  Karaoke with HDMI & external Mic through a Macbook Pro

    Your Question:
I have a Macbook Pro, with a miniDisplay to HDMI, which I connect to my TV, after setting output sound and mirroring the display, I can show and hear Karaoke streamed from the internet, but I can't get a microphone to work through the system. I have a mic, with a qtr to eigth adapter in mic port - no sound. Tried mic to a USB port, macbook recognises mic, but no sound out to surround system, just the karaoke music - help

I about pulled my hair out trying to figure out how to do this, so today I made a phone call to a professional musician friend. He said that I need a mixer to go between the computer and the tv. A mixer gives multiple input and output options. He said a friend of his that is a DJ uses this one and recommends it to everyone -
      VocoPro DA-1000PRO 3-Channel Karaoke Mixer
I ordered one today along with some Shure SM58 Mics.
Hopefully, it all works out...I'll let you know.

  • Line-in Port Question

Okay, I understand now that the port I thought was a mic port on my 2008 Macbook Pro is a line-in port. What I don't understand though is why my headset worked fine with it up until last week. Can anyone help me understand why this would be?

I have an idea of what you may be experiencing, correct me if I am wrong. I bet when you unplug the headset you may see a red line inside of it. Try this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 -Reset SMC
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 - Reset Pram
Next go and open your finder window and delete these files:
    /library/preferences/audio/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
    /library/preferences/audio/com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
    /library/preferences/com.apple.soundpref.plist
    ~/library/preferences/com.apple.soundpref.plist
Put those in trash then erase the trash.
Then shut down the computer and do a PRAM reset. If this does not resolved the issue empty:
    /syste/library/caches folder
Worst case scenario do an archive install.
If all else fails your microswitches in the audio jacks have failed. Make an appointment at an ARS or AASP.

  • Use headset and Mic at the same time

The latest MacBook Pro does not come with Mic port. How can I use my professional Mic for audio recording and my editor can listen the recording through headset at the same time.

Oh, but the Retina was irresistible....  The regulars have digital and analog audio input and output.
So, ample pocketed Mac users get to choose between audio input/output adapters that plug into the USB or the Thunderbolt ports.

  • Mac mini microphone port

So I tried to use a labtec mic on my mac mini and it does not work. Then I look thru this forum and all I can find is I have to buy a USB mic.So what is the point of Apple putting the mic port on the mini if one can only use a USB mic???? Is it just for pro's
If a mic can be used on the rear port can any one please tell me what type/brand I have to buy. Cos I have got USB cables coming out the ying yang.
intel mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   newer tech 300GB external hard drive

You would probably be better off buying a USB mic if you have to buy one anyways, since the sound is switched from analog to digital outside of the computer, and therefore avoids all the interference inside the case.
You will get much better sound quality out of a USB mic vs similarly priced analog.

  • How to disable T60p mic without disabling other mics?

I use a headset occasionally and I want the onboard mic to always be disabled while allowing a plugged-in mic to work. Any advice?

You can mute it with software or another simple external solution would be to plug a jack into the mic port, this will disable the internal mic. You can buy jacks at stores like RadioShack or cut one off a bad mic.
If you want to mute it try going to control panel>Sound, double click the integrated microphone and select "recording" tab and click on "levels". You should be able to mute just that mic.

Depending on software you're using (creative (surround) mixer or windows play/recording controls) you just need to un-mute the microphone source channel and set the recording device to microphone.
