Mdimportserver[2762]: *** Failed to decode data, treating as binary Error

Can anyone help me understand how to troubleshoot this error. I am finding a large % of my CPU consumed by inactive processes [update / mds / configd / cupsd]. I do not touch these, and I am not sure how to resolve this conflict (if it is even one). Any help in working on the next steps would be much appreciated.

It could also be a few other things since mdimport server is Spotlight.
Try resetting or redoing the Spotlight files with Spotless...

Failed to retrieve data from the database Error

I had some reports setup in Crystal XI based on a Sql server but recently we had an upgrade, the database has been moved to IBM Informix.
There is a certain table that seems to be causing the problem.
The error:
"Failed to retrieve data from the database
Details: 42000:[informix][informix ODBC Driver][informix]A syntax error has occured .[Database Vendor Code:-201]".
I run the same query in MS Access and it seems to run fine.
I even tried to do a simple dump of the table onto Crystal but no luck.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
It seems your ODBC Driver is not compatible, try to download a driver which supports Informix through CR XI. I think you may have to download Data Direct Drivers 5.1 version to access Informix data tables through CR XI.

Failed to retrieve data from the database error message

Hello,
I have a fairly simple report that correctly retrieves the data from the database providing that there are no selection formula.
However, as soon as I add the record selection formula:
{fireService.serviceDate} >= DateTime (2009, 10, 3, 0 ,0 ,0)
I get the following errors:
Failed to retrieve data from the database
Cannot determine the queries necessary to get data for this report. Details: An invalid range operator has been encountered.
However, when I use the Database / Show SQL Query option and copy the query directly into the sql query analyser it works perfectly.
Any ideas?

I am using a table to select the records from.
In fact it is a series of joined tables.
The SQL Query generated is:

It looks complext but is not. Most of these joins reference lookup tables.

ITunes 7.3 failed back up data DVD burn had error code 261(0x00000105).

Just bought a bunch of new songs and went to back them up in iTunes 7.3 and I keep getting error code 261(0x00000105).
Any ideas? Did not have this problem in prior versions. Brner works fine with other programs.

Keep getting the same error as well. Run cd/dvd diagnostics and it should tell you... "The last failed data CD or DVD burn had error code 261(0x00000105)".

I have an application using CR XI R2, and on certain users computers when they try to run a report they get the following error:
Failed to retrieve data from the database.Details: [Database Vendor Code: 229]Failed to retrieve data from the database.Error in File C:\DOCUME1\turkj\LOCALS1\Temp\WhseEmpJobAndActivityByUserAndDate {22DA2F53-4391-4307-9F2A-0E3C3EBE2198A}.rpt
The report uses SQLOLEDB (ADO) and integrated authentication - it runs fine on the development machine.
I found very little info on this error on the web (google) - so I hope someone here has an idea.

You need to make sure that those systems can get conneted to the database that is supposed to return data. To check that create a udl in clients machine.
Also do not change the schema of he report.

We are using 9i R1.
DECODE(<date field>, 'DD-MON-YYYY', , ) fails.
ie.

But     select decode (trunc(sysdate),'09-JUN-03','Y','N') from dual ---> Returns 'Y'

Can you give us an example of your tests, on my db it works in the where clause exactly the same as in the decode (and as expected).

As domain admin I am attempting to install "SQL Server 2008 R2 with SP2" but it keeps failing with "Failed to retrieve data for this request".

Above message says that your registry is not consistent and some of the parameters are missing from registry.Or
Account installing SQL server does not have permission to access this. I think case can be here that account with which you logged into your system to install SQL Server might not have certain privileges. Can you take help
of domain admin account add it as a local administrator in this machine always right click on setup file and select run as administrator. Before this make sure you remove all SQL Server components from add remove program

On SID generation data load failed while loading data from Source DSO to Target DSO.
Following are the error which is occuuring--

So, i'm not getting WHY in one DSO i.e Source it got successful but in another DSO i.e. Target its got failed??
While analyzing all i check that SIDs Generation upon Activation is ckecked in source DSO but not in Target DSO..so it is reason its got failed??

Hi,
I hope your data flow has been designed in such a way where the 1st DSO as a staging Device and all transformation rules and routine are maintained in between 1st to 2nd dso and sid generation upon activation maintained in 2nd DSO. By doing so you will be getting your data 1st DSO same as your source system data since you are not doing any transformation rules and routine etc.. which helps to avoid data load failure.
Please analyze the following
Have you loaded masterdata before transaction data ... if no please do it first
go to the property of first dso and check whether there maintained sid generation up on activation (it may not be maintained I guess)
Goto the property of 2nd Dso and check whether there maintained sid generation up on activation (It may be maintained I hope)
this may be the reason.
Also check whether there is any special char involvement in your transaction data (even lower case letter)

Hi,
The above error appears due to date format is differnt from SAP query generator and SQL server.
So you need convert all date in above query to SQL server required format.
Try to convert..let me know if not possible.

Failed to fetch data provider data. (LO 26306)

Hi,
We have created a webi report, which is having a date prompts.
The same webi report, we have used in xelsius using a live office connection.
In Xelsius, We have checked the box 'refresh on load', under usage tab.
When we run the xelsius dashboard, we are getting an "Failed to fetch data provider data. (LO 26306)".
Can anyone please help. why this error is getting. Is it because of prompts which are there in webi report.
Basically, our requirement is when the user runs the dashboard, prompts should be displayed. User will enter the prompts and based on that, dash board should get display.

Change the Live Office documentation to clearly state that before importing a Live Office document within Xcelsius the Live Office document has to be opened in Excel and the 'Refresh All objects' triggered. If this step is not done and the Excel file is saved without prior refresh the error 'Failed to fetch data provider data (LO 26306) in Xcelsius is raised (when previewing the model)

Failing to retrieve data b/c Crystal (and Webi) not producing expected SQL

Hi I am receiving the following message when running a specific Crystal Report:
Error in File C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\Data\procSched\hq-erpboprod.reportjobserver\~tmp1e061e138ef0560.rpt: Failed to retrieve data from the database.
I can see why it is failing to retrieve data from the database - the SQL that the Crystal is generating is not putting the 'AND' in between each clause in the join statement (see below). However, when I build the same query in Designer, I get the correct SQL results.

Yes, I use a universe as a data source.
We just moved to Service Pack 5.
We access a SQL Server database.
This problem arose during a migration/reimplementation to a new virtual server.

I installed the sql server 2008 Client on my pc, so that I can connect to a remote sql server 2008 Enterprise cluster. Here is what happened:
0. Added myself as a db_owner on the two databases in the sql server cluster.
1. On my windows xp pro, I typed the server name and log in.
2. After I logged in, I clicked on the Databases to expand the node. However, an error prompt says,
"Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc)
The server principal "DomainName\MyName" is not able to access the database "DevicelockDB" under the current security context. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)"
I only need to connect to two databases that I created on the sql cluster. I don't know why the DevicelockDB is needed before I can access two databases. What does DevicelockDB do? Do I need it for connecting to a database? Let me know, thanks in advance.
