  • Cannot encrypt Password in MDSS file...

    Hi All,
Can in  mdss.ini file we encrypt the password for repository with user id other than Admin?
issue is i change the password in console for Admin and then try to login datamanager with Admin user id ,but it fails saying Invalid login credentials..
So I have to use other user id in mdss file (which has Admin role assigned to it) and restart mdss , sot that mdss can see the repository and start polling  the files in ready folder..
    This is not working..
    Any inputs ..
    Cheers!!
    Vikrant M Kelkar

    Hi Vikrant,
Once you have changed a Users Password in MDM Console.
You just need to restart your MDSS and enter in the new Userid and  pwd under that particulat repository. and Save it.
This should take up the new login for auto syndication.

  • Mdis.ini  file?

    Hi Friends,
I am looking for the mdis.ini  and  importmanagerbatch.exe files.I couldnt trace those files. I want to run the batch job.
    Please guide me
    regards
    Shankar

    Hi Shankar,
To run batch job you will have to first install the batch clients (ImportmanagerBatch and SyndicatorBatch). Download these file and install them onto your machine.
Once you install Importmanager Batch , it will create following directory structure:
    C:\Program Files\SAP MDM 5.5\Importmanger Batch\ImportmanagerBatch.exe
Now  you will have to configure the "mdis.ini" file as in you need to populate few of the parameters. e.g.  Map Name . Server Name (IP / Host name),Repository Name , Port number.
You are now ready to run the batch job. Just create a batch file and type in ImportmanagerBatch command and execute it.

  • Issues with import server : MDIS stops automatically

    Hello Experts,
We are facing a critical issue, our MDIS server gets stopped automatically. Evan after restarting along with DB, the issue is not solved. We thought it might be some memory issues, but it is not, we cleared the old files from archive folder and from logs also, still when we start the MDIS it gets stopped in few minutes, we are not able to solve the issue,.. Have any one faced similar issue or clue or any guess how this can be sorted out?
    Thanks
    Vinoth

    hi Vinothkumar
the MDIS is stopped with the MDS stopping or only the MDIS is stopped.
1.when the MDIS is stopped, what operations do you perform, and please check the MDIS log as well as the MDS log.
2.also,check the MDIS ini and MDS ini parameters, make sure they are configured properly.
3.clear up your port files, including the ready, exception and archive folders.then try to restart your MDS,MDIS,MDSS.
please get the results for further analysis.
    best regards

  • Can we remove timestamp which is added infront of the file name, in archive

Can we remove timestamp which is added infront of the file name of datafile which was imported succesfully , in archive folder, i have a requriment to move file from archive folder  to another folder, but programmer is finding diffficulty in moving the file which has time stamp, he can move file with date stamp, but not able to move file which has time stamp, is there is any option in MDIS.Ini file or anywhere in import manager or console to modify the file names , or remove timestamp when file is moved in archive folder.
does anyone faced similar issue, require help.........

    Hi,
Moving file from Ready directory to Archive directory is MDM internal process and I strongly feel it is not possible to control the naming convention of File to be placed in Archive directory.
But you can explain what problem you developer is facing while moving file from Archive directory to some other directory..then we can think about solution to acheive this. Also on which operating system you MDM server is installed.

  • Import Server not picking up the file

    Hello,
I have 2 repositories running on the same server. Import server picks up file for one repository, but not for the other. What could be the reason? Also, for the repository, import server not picking up the file, workflow also does not send an email notification.
    Please help
    Subhash

    Hi Subhash,
Hope you are not using the same Import Server for both the MDM Servers. If yes then you need to mention the MDM Sevrer name in the MDM Server parameter of MDIS.ini. Check the parameter list of MDIS.ini file.
If your repository has password for Admin user then you need to specify the same in MDIS.ini file under your repository section for User = Admin and Passowrd = [Admin password]. Remove the E from the PAsswordE and give the password for Admin user. Once done restart the Import Server and check again, parameter Password would have converted to PasswordE.
For Email Notification two things you need to check:
    1. You should have specified the mail server address in MDS.ini file under your repository section for parameter Mail Server.
    2. Workflow owner should have entry in Email address field of the user. Check this in Console under Admin -> Users.

  • Port sequence and file processing in SAP MDM

    Hi All,
Can any one let me know how port sequence mechanism works in MDM 7.1? As per my understanding in SAP MDM no one files from different ports are processed simultaniously...Suppose if you have three different ports A,B,C and the scenairo is as below:
SAP PI sends 2 files to A port and then sends 2 more files to B port and then sends 1 file to C port....All these files are not send simultaniously.
    Thanks
    Rajeev

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdm550/helpdata/en/43/120367f94c3e92e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm
Once started, MDIS scans inbound ports in the order set by the Sequence column in the Ports pane of the MDM Console. When it finds a port containing an import file, it uses the portu2019s associated import map to process the file.
The sequence in which MDIS processes ports is not affected by a portu2019s remote system.
MDIS processes all files in a portu2019s Ready folder before scanning the next port in the sequence.
When more than one import file is present in the folder, MDIS processes the files in a FIFO (first in, first out) order, meaning the oldest file in the port is processed first, then the next oldest, and so on.
Under certain circumstances, MDIS will skip over a port and not process any import files it may contain. These circumstances include the following:
    ·        Port is set up for manual processing instead of automatic.
    ·        Port is blocked due to a structural exception.
    ·        Port is connected to an Import Manager or other MDIS.
Once all ports on the MDM Server have been scanned, MDIS waits the number of seconds specified in the Interval property of the mdis.ini file before restarting the sequence (for more information, see MDIS Configuration).
    Thanks,
    Shambhu.

    Please help!

    Hi Jitesh,

The text file was immediately picked up and imported.  This thus proves that (1) MDIS is functioning, (2) user / password is correct.  Unfortunately you will also see from the log above that when I changed the port back to run on XML the problem has not been resolved.
    Any ideas?

  • MDM Inbound Port Not Processing Files

    Dear Experts,
I got an issue while processing file from Ready folder of a specific Inbound Port where files are not processed then i tried with another inbound port of the same repository there it is working fine. Can anybody please help me out to make it work.
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
Make sure the user ID that you are using for the auto imports in the mdis.ini file has sufficient rights for that particular port. If thats not there the file would not autoimport.
You could even try importing the file manually using import type as port. This will help you identify if there any problems in the file and its schema that you trying to import.
Also check if the port is set to automatic and the schema and map is maintained correctly.
Another thing that you could check in the console is the port status. If there is a file in the ready folder it must display has data. Or if a file in the exception folder it must then show blocked on exception if you have set that property to yes.
In cases when it does not show if afile present or not,you need to make sure the directory path mentioned in the mdis.ini file is correct. Also you would need to restart the importserver through the services and check again.
If nothing works try deleting the port and recreating it through the console.
    Regards,
    Aditya Dhurandhar.

  • MDIS Question

    Could anyone clarify the following?
We set the file aggregation count = 1 . This means even if we have more than one file in the ready folder still it will process the files one by one meaning first file has to complete then only the next file will pick up and load. This is correct?. Some times we may have many files in the inbound ready folder.  We use sinmple workflow also. Does this cause record lock exception?
Some times we get record lock exception and the Import log says u2018operation="Import" import-action="Update (All Mapped Fields)" row="??">The record is currently used in the workflowu201D.  But the workflow completed successfully and not holding any record in the workflow
    MDIS Configuration  file:-
Chunk Size=??? u2013 What exactly this is used for?
No. Of Chunks Processed In Parallel=?? u2013 What exactly this is used for?

    Hi Lamp,
File Aggregation Count:The number of import files to aggregate for batch processing.
As you set it to 1 so your understanding is correct here.
Chunk Size: The Chunk Size value tells MDIS how many records from an aggregated file set to process at a time.Once MDIS processes a chunk of records, it immediately sends this chunk to MDS for import into the repository. When MDS receives the chunk, the Import Slice Size setting controls how many records from the chunk it should process at a time.
Note: The MDM Server is locked during record import.
Note: Each of these parameters must be added manually to the server-level settings in the mds.ini file. If these parameters are not added to mds.ini or have no values set, their default values will be used.
Currently, MDS only and always uses the average of these two values (Import Slice Size Min, Import Slice Size Max).
We use sinmple workflow also. Does this cause record lock exception?
If you are importing records into a workflow, the workflow is not launched until all import slices from an import package have been processed. An import package refers to the complete set of records received from a set of import files aggregated by MDIS.
Note: The port is locked during MDIS processing.
No. of Chunks Processed In Parallel  is the number of chunks processed simultaneously during streaming import. Default is 5. This parameter determines how many chunks MDIS can manage simultaneously, counting one chunk per stage plus chunks queued between stages
For more details, refer MDM Console Reference Guide.

what should be the file name in the directory ? could this be the problem ?

    Hi Kaushik,
For picking up the file file ready folder you need to do the following steps:
    1) Creation of users and assinging password to the users.
    2) Creation of maps in import manager for importing the data.
    3) Creation of ports. In this you have to mention map name which you have made for importing the data, format of the file present in ready folder and your processing type as automatic.
    4) Mention user name and password in the MDIS.ini file. Also mention the time interval.Save this file.
Now you can find that import server is picking up the data from ready folder.
If you are still facing some problems please go through this URL: [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdm550/helpdata/en/19/d4301589b54841af17e7c42b4cee49/content.htm]

  • Mail server parameters in MDIS.ini

    Hi Guru's,
To get mails through workflow..Can anybody tell me where in MDIS .Ini file do i maintain Mail server parameters...?
I mean do i need to put
    Mail server parmeter:-................
    OR
Just key in Mail server parameters any where in mdis.ini file...
    Regards
    Vikrant M Kelkar

    Hi Vikrant,
As far as I know, the Mdis.ini file is the system configuration file that determines the settings to be done for enabling automatic Importing the parameters to be set in the mdis are:
    [Global]
    Version
    Server
    Interval
    Verbose1
    Log Dir
    SLD Registration
    [Repository_Name]
    Chunk Size2
No. Of Chunks Processed In Parallel1
      Login
      Password
      PasswordE
    Log Protocol Transactions
    Inter-Chunk Delay MS3
There is no option to set the mail server details here.
However in the Mds.ini file we have:
    Mail server:
    Mail SMTP time out:
These parameters will enable the mail settings for sending mail through MDM.
I may be wrong, but this is what the sap guide talks about and also the blog speaks about the settings required in the mds.ini file
If theres somthing different you've done, we can discuss it futher
    Hope It Helped

  • MDM 5.5 SP05 installation - Anyone installed it on SUSE Linux?

In accordance to my previous post, I will give the whole story of my installation in order to make it clear.
It is about a test server , running Linux SUSE LES 9.3. We want to install on it MDM5.5 (without NetWeaver -stand alone installation) and ORACLE 10g database.
So I started with the ORACLE 10.2 installation which went fine.
Now I am in the process of installing the MDM 5.5 on the same Linux server.
The installation guide is very poor regarding instructions for Linux like systems:
Extract the MDM Server, Import Server, and Syndication Server files from the archives with the
    following name structure:
    <server>.<incremental version>.<rebuild version>-<platform>-<compiler>.tar.<archive extension>
    2. Place the server files in the root directory under /opt.
We recommend to place and install all servers (MDS, MDIS, MDSS) in the same folder, for
    example /opt/MDM/bin.
    3. Install each server folder by executing tar -xvf <server file>.
    4. Delete the server archives and files.
    Launching the Servers
    1. Define a user account named mdm to run the MDM Servers on.
A process may not allocate more memory than the value of the ulimit -d command. So set
this value as large as possible for the mdm user. On some Unix-based OS, unlimited is
default, but on others, the kernel imposes a maximum value. Check your system carefully to
    determine the optimum setting.
For AIX 64bit, we recommend adding ulimit -d unlimited to the user profile of mdm.
    2. Log in as the mdm user.
    3. In the mdm account's home directory (or a subdirectory), set up execution directories for the servers.
The execution directories will contain various runtime files (for example, nohup.out for error
messages) that are created and used by the MDM server software. Normally these directories do not
    require any manual intervention.
We strongly recommend to set up an execution folder structure similar to the following example
to run each server process in its dedicated folder:
    ~mdm/mdm/mds
    /mdis
    /mdss
This ensures that the runtime files of the different servers are clearly separated.
Ensure that you make the dedicated execution directory the current one before launching one of
the servers. Use pushd to set the execution directory each time you run one of the servers.
    4. Launch each server (MDM Server, Import Server, and Syndication Server) from the mdm user
account by executing mds, mdis, or mdss from within the server's dedicated execution directory.
Do not run mds, mdis,or mdss from the installation directory or any subdirectory (this is the directory defined in the MDM_HOME variable).
So I have followed all these instructions but I am not sure what does it mean to "set execution directory"!!! My MDM home is /opt/MDM/bin under binI have mds, mdis and mdss with the respective scripts. I run them to launch the servers and I get the error:
    mdm@mucsapt2:/opt/MDM/bin> ./mds-r
./mds-r: error while loading shared libraries: libxerces-c.so.26: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
The libraries are there under /opt/MDM/liband with the right access rights.
The document says to run the mds-r from the execution path which should be under /home/mdm. Does it mean that I have to copy all the scripts there? It is not clear at all.
I am surprised, such  a big forum and nobody had faced this issue. Is there anybody who did the installation on Linux? From what I see there are not too many questions for the installation itself. Was it so straight forward for all you?
    Thanks in advance,
    Loukas

Unsupported Linux version should not make a major difference in this case...
This happens because your system runs out of swap space necessary for installer to fork and exec external process which configures the domain. Solution is to increase the amount of swap space available to installer - on Solaris this is usually done by cleaning up any unnecessary content from /tmp partition and shuting down non-essential processes prior to reinstalling. I suppose the same steps would help on Linux.
Before reinstallation you should also use provided uninstaller to cleanup this failed installation if you intend to install in the same location.

  • Import Server fails to import if repository has password

    Hi,
I am using MDM SP05 Patch2 on Windows Server.
I added a login password to my repository. Now what happens is the import server fails to import files for that repository giving the error :
    "<i>[MDS=MDM Repos=Repo]: CatMgrClientWorker.Connect() failed. RC: 0xffaa0200 Invalid logon credentials</i>"
After changing the password, i restarted MDM Server and Import Server both.
But if i remove the password from my repository, the import runs successfully.
    Someone pls suggest.
    Regards,
    Chintan

    Hi Danish,
The process of changing the password in .ini files works till MDM 5.5 version.
From MDM 7.1 version, the password Must be Changed only at the Auxilliary level. Changing it in the .ini file directly will have no effect.
In MDM 7.1, configuration of some repository-specific MDIS/MDSS parameters moved from the repository sections of mdis.ini/mdss.ini to a new MDIS/MDSS-specific Repository Detail pane in MDM Console.
When you connect to the Auxilliary servers, you fill find both the configurations for MDIS and MDSS:
User: The user name MDSS uses to access the MDM repository.
Password: The password MDSS uses to access the MDM repository.
Use the same password that you have assigned to Admin in the Console.
You can refer to the Console Reference guide : page number 263.
If you have already done this, can you please check the log file and let us know if you find anything.
    Thanks,
    Priti
