MDM Assertion Log shows Assertion Failed

Hi Experts,
When I open in MDM Console the Assertion log it shows many lines stating that Assertion Failed.
The path to the file being stated does not exist on the mdm server. Also, no problems are being reported. I believe it is not an error because when selecting Errors only the assertion failed entry is not shown.
What does this mean?
Thanks guys.
regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,
An assertion means that an expected condition was not met which may or may not be normal. It is also used to trace program flow.
It is not an error and is meant to be used by SAP support.
Hope this helps,
Simon

  • CVI crashes - event log shows [FATAL] [LW_UAE_Handler] [..\jeff\i386\except.c:161] Assertion failed: 0.

    Hello,
When calling lua_error(L) (pushing a Lua error in an embedded lua interpreter in my CVI code), I have been encountering a complete crash.  Not only does my code stop running, but the full CVI 9.1.1 IDE crashes without even an error message.  When I look in the windows xp event log I find the following:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( CVI ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: [16:45:30.768] [FATAL] [LW_UAE_Handler] [..\jeff\i386\except.c:161] Assertion failed: 0.
When I recompile my project with visual studio, the identical code does not crash or cause any problems.  Any insite on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    Alex Corwin

    Hello Alex,
Could you try to generate a crash dump? Also, here is a community example of code using an embedded interpreter LUA in a LabWindows/CVI Project.

  • OSX Server logs many messages like "Feb  7 07:28:15 johns-imac com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[508] (com.akamai.client.plist[44186]): assertion failed: 13B42: launchd   102012 [C35AEAF6-FCF6-3C64-9FC8-38829064F8A8]: 0xd"  What is wrong?

When Server is running, the computer on which Server runs has problems accessing a shared drive connected to that computer.  This problem started when Server started logging messages like the following.
    Feb  7 07:32:57 johns-imac com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[508] (com.akamai.client.plist[44806]): assertion failed: 13B42: launchd + 102012 [C35AEAF6-FCF6-3C64-9FC8-38829064F8A8]: 0xd

The problem goes away when Server is not running and disk sharing is handled by Mac OSX 10,9.1 client.
What can one do to correct this issue with Server?

  • Oops! An untagged string (assertion failed!) got thrown far enough that we display it to the user. T

After installing the latest update to Lightroom 5, I started getting this message when I started Lightroom:
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5[4407]: Oops! An untagged string (assertion failed!) got thrown far enough that we display it to the user. This shouldn't happen.
From what I've found through searches, plugins may be related to the problem.
The problem I'm having here is the lack of any information - no crash log, no reference to what caused this - in any log file.  I've taken the most recently installed or updated pugins and moved them elsewhere to test and am still getting this message.
I assume that when I see "This shouldn't happen" as a message from the software, that it's a significant warning.  What can go wrong / is going wrong as a result of the related problem?  Is my data in danger?
    All help gratefully appreciated.

No such output enabled for users. I'm sure the developers have some way of debugging..

I wonder what the output of the -tracebacks switch would be.
It shows the error in context (I've done it before, but it was a long time ago) - what Lr was doing when error occurred. For example, if plugin was executing, it would show that.

I'm not familiar with the .agprefs file
It's where Lr stores preferences - see your presets folder (location is accessible via a button in Lr preferences dialog box: "Show Lightroom Presets Folder..."). Look in 'Preferences' subfolder. It's the source of some aberrant behavior sometimes..

my catalog is backed up in two places, on two separate devices.  But if there's corruption within the catalog, then the backups are bad, too.
If you've been using Lightroom's built-in catalog backup feature, then it creates a new backup each time, so old backups, if not yet deleted, may not have same problem as newer backups. But I think we're getting ahead of ourselves now.

  • Lightroom 5.4 assertion failed

I installed Lightroom 5.4, but it will not start.  I just get a pop-up window that says "assertion failed."  I am running Windows 7 and have had no problems with Lightroom 5.3

Based on more customer feedbacks, we have updated the description of the problem and describe a full workaround.
This Lightroom 5.4 error condition could happen if the standard Windows "My Pictures" virtual folder for your login account points to a physical directory that no longer exists. This could happen if,
    1) The directory "C:\Users\<your Windows login account name>\Pictures\" was deleted, such that your Windows "My Pictures" virtual folder points to a default directory that is missing.
    2) The directory "C:\Users\<your Windows login account name>\Pictures\" still exists in your account, but your Windows registry has been mis-configured such that your "My Pictures" virtual folder actually to point to a non-default directory location that is missing.
We'll fix the bug in the next Lightroom update. In the meantime, you have a workaroud described as follows:
    1) Open up Windows Explorer
    2) Confirm whether the directory "C:\Users\<your Windows login account name>\Pictures\" exists. Normally Windows also shows the "Pictures" directory as the virtual folder "C:\Users\<your Windows login account name>\My Pictures\".
    3) In the Windows Explorer, navigate to your account folder "C:\Users\<your Windows login account name>\" and try to create a sub-directory named "Pictures". Skip this step if Windows reports that a directory named "Pictures" already exists in your account folder.
    4) Then click the Windows Start button
    5) In the "Search program and files" field, type regedit and hit Enter.
    6) Navigate in the registry editor to the following Windows registry key entry [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders].
    7) Check the data value for the entry named "My Pictures" if there is such an entry. The Windows default should be "%USERPROFILE%\Pictures" (without the double quote). This is the same default folder as "C:\Users\<your Windows login account name>\Pictures\" that you created at step 3.
    8) If it points to a non-default directory location, you need to make sure that directory exists physically. Or you can double click on the "My Pictures" entry and reset the value to"%USERPROFILE%\Pictures" (without the double quote).
    9) Quit the registry editor.
    10) Then log off of your account and sign back in and relaunch Lr 5.4.

    Markus,
thanks for your quick response. However, I am curious to know what could be the problem. Please let me describe briefly what I have done so far.
    - Started with ./sapinst and went thru choose service, define parameters, check parameters steps
    - It prompted me to enter SolMan key, done.
    - It stoped here and prompted me to login as oram1s and start Oracle installation by executing /oracle/stage/102_64/database/SAP/RUNINSTALLER. done.
    - After completion of Oracle 10.2.0.1.0 installation, ran orainstRoot.sh  and root.sh as root. done.
    - SAP install manual suggests to apply Oracle patch set. Since I had downloaded 51031811 Oracle patch dvd from market place, I executed /sapsoftware/extract/51031811/DVD_ORACLE_10.2.0.2_Patches_LINUX/LINUX_X86_64/Disk1/runInstaller. It completed successfully so assume it applied Oracle 10g R2 patch set 1.
    - Now, I went back to sapinstall session and continued from there on.
    - It went thru a couple phases and "create database" and then came across this issue in "Create/Check tablespaces"
NOTE: I came across few other issues in between so followed proper resolution for those and moved on.
Have I missed something or done a mistake somewhere?
    As always, appreciate your help!
    thanks,
    Dhimant

  • Assert Failed TCProcess

Our FMS2 stopped responding to incoming requests today.
Looking in all the edge.*.log files, they are flooded with this
    line:
Assert failed in /util/TCProcess.cpp line 609
any ideas what this is about? I had to restart FMS to get it
    to accept connections again.
    Linux: 2.6.17-1.2142_FC4smp

It happens sometimes on our FMS too. So it's certainly not
some specific error in your application(s). Some ppl recommended to
set the application variable "reuse" from true to false (check your
xml configfiles) but in our case it didn't help us a bit.
Some suggested that the amount of tcp-connections / sockets
on the server would be "full" but that would need about 60.000+
connections and guess what ; netstat didn't show more than 200 at a
    time (in our case).
Does you app use a lot of external scripting (e.g. calling
external xml-files or scripts?) Do you clear those outgoing objects
? You can by issuing "obj = null;" and then "delete obj;" but be
warned for circular references (closures) ; in those cases you
think you deleted an object but in fact it's still in memory and
-maybe- reserving an tcp-slot so in the end the FMS might run out
of free sockets. This is however more a conspiracy-plot-theory than
    scientific based reverse-engineering :)

I think it is still something on which I already worked (with other thread).

    Hello Kiran,
I did a few tests again yesterday, and it was really a stupid mistake from myside.
The error message did mean, that there wasn't enough space.
It isn't the authority issue, it was a leak of space.
FYI, the complete DB-Size of Source System is required - NOT JUST RESERVED SPACE!!!
Thx for help and sorry for stealing your time :O

  • "Assertion failed" error when executing a simple UCI program

I am using a simple UCI program (tt1.c) with Xmath version 7.0.1 on Sloaris 2.8 that performs the followings:
    - Start Xmath701
    - Sleep 10 Seconds
    - Load a sysbuild model
    - Stop Xmath
I am calling the uci executable using the following command:
    > /usr/local/apps/matrixx-7.0.1/bin/xmath -call tt1 &
In this way everything works fine and the following printouts from the program are produced.
    --------- uci printout ----------
    ## Starting Xmath 701
    ## sleep 10 seconds
    ## load "case_h_cs_ds.xmd";
    ## Stopping Xmath 701
All the processes (tt1, XMATH, xmath_mon, and sysbld) terminate correctly.
The problem occurs if the 10 second wait after starting xmath is omitted:
    - Start Xmath701
    - Load a sysbuild model
    - Stop Xmath
This results to the following printouts:
    --------- uci printout ----------
    ## Starting Xmath 701
    ## load "case_h_cs_ds.xmd";
Assertion failed: file "/vob1/xm/ipc/ipc.cxx", line 420 errno 0.
Note that the last line is not produced by the uci program and the tt1 did not
finish (the printout before stopping xmath "## Stopping Xmath 701" was
    not produced).
A call to the unix "ps -ef" utility shows that none of the related process has been terminated:
    fs085312 27631 20243 0 10:45:29 pts/27 0:00 tt1
    fs085312 27643 1 0 10:45:30 ? 0:00 /usr/local/apps/matrixx-7.0.1/solaris_mx_70.1/xmath/bin/xmath_mon /usr/local/app
    fs085312 27641 27631 0 10:45:30 ? 0:01 /usr/local/apps/matrixx-7.0.1/solaris_mx_70.1/xmath/bin/XMATH 142606339, 0x8800
    fs085312 25473 25446 0 10:45:33 ? 0:01 sysbld ++ 19 4 7 6 5 8 9 0 25446 ++
    The questions are as follows:
1- What is "Assertion failed: file "/vob1/xm/ipc/ipc.cxx", line 420 errno 0" and why is that produced?
2- Should the UCI program waits for end of sysbld initialization before issuing commands?
3- If the answer to the above question is yes, is there a way to check the termination of sysbld initialization?
Thanks in advance for you help.

I tracked down the problem and it is a race condition between the many processes being started up. A smaller delay should also solve the problem. Or, maybe do something else before the first 'load'. The 'load' command tries to launch systembuild and causes the race condition.

  • PLEASE HELP Lightroom 5 assertion failed.

I followed the below fix and still get assertion failed
    Open Windows Explorer.
    Go to C:\Users\[your user name]\.
Check for the folder named Pictures.
If you don't see the folder, create a folder named Pictures under folder C:\Users\[your user name]\.
Restart Lightroom. If the error recurs, restart your computer, then retry. If the error recurs, continue to the next step.
    Click the Windows Start button.
Type "regedit" in the Search program and files field, and press the Enter key.
Back up your registry by choosing File > Export. Give the backup copy of the registry a name and location you can remember.
Navigate to the registry key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer \User Shell Folders]
Look at the value for the My Pictures entry. The Windows default is: %USERPROFILE%\Pictures, which is the Pictures folder under C:\Users\[your user name]. If another folder is listed, check Windows Explorer for that folder. If it does not exist, you have two options. (1) Create the folder with that name in the location indicated in the registry entry. (2) If the Pictures folder exists under your user name folder, double-click the My Pictures entry, and reset the value to: %USERPROFILE%\Pictures
    Quit the registry editor.
Log off from your account and back on, or restart your computer, then restart Lightroom 5.4.

The locations for preference files are usually hidden at the OS level by default.
If you tell us which OS and version, you are using we can probably give specific advice. Barring that read here: http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?14226-Resetting-(or-Trashing-)-the-Lightroom -Preferences-file

  • On start up lightroom 4 fails with this message "Assertion failed" anyone have a solution?

    Thanks

After talking to Adobe support, they say that because LR4 has so many new features the catalog update doesn't always operate correctly!
Nice one adobe, provide an update path that "doesn't always work"!!!
The only way around it is to create a new catalog and import all the pictures from the failing catalog. In the process losing all published services! Not ideal but I'll have to live with it.
Surely the "assertion failed" message could write out to a log stating exactly what caused the fault. In the apple console all you get is
"31/05/2012 13:49:23.006 Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4: Oops! An untagged string (assertion failed!) got thrown far enough that we display it to the user. This shouldn't happen."
Come on Adobe this is poor!!!

  • Assert failed in /modules/streams/flv/TCFLVData.cpp

    Hi,
We're running FMS 3.5.2 r654 on RHEL 5.2 and we're getting tons of errors like this:
    "2009-08-31      10:47:43        11394   (e)2581279      Assert failed in /modules/streams/flv/TCFLVData.cpp line 2033   -"
    Always the same line number.
Can we safely ignore this error? What does it mean?
We're only getting this since 3.5.2. We were running FMS 3.5.1 before, and weren't getting this error, but upgraded to get rid of the occasional "core experienced [x] failures"-crashes.
    Kind regards,
    Pieter Barrezeele

    thanks patrick for your interest.
    we're using the 2.0.3.
this error code was never traced in the log file of the 2.0.2
