MDM catalogs to be used for PM-SRM scenario

Hello All,
We are in a situation where we are using the SRM-MDM scenario for regular shopping carts. And also would like to leverage these MDM catalogs for purchases made in ECC Plant Maintenance "work Orders" for non-stock ECC material numbers maintained in ECC.
These material numbers in ECC will have a Manufacturing Part Nmber (MPN) in the material master data.
Since we had some difficulty connecting these SRM-MDM catalogs directly to the ECC work order we would like to bring these requisitions generated by "Work Orders" and push them to SRM. (Standard SAP)
Once these Requisitions come into SRM as SC.. the system automatically approves this SC (Which is standard SAP) but in this process we would like to know if there is a way the system can automatically make a call to MDM based on the Manufacturing Part Number (MPN) and bring in the price and the vendor details back to the SC automatically.
Currently we are using SRM 6.0 and MDM 2.0 in our landscape..
Any suggestions will be appreciated and rewarded..

As it's DVD so it contains all version info in lable.sca file. Read it before you start installation.

SRM-MDM-Catalog and XI using HTTP

I need to do a integration between SRM 5 and SRM-MDM-Catalog using XI.
I imported the SRM-MDM-Catalog packages into the XI and I saw that all connections with MDM are using FTP in the comunnication channel template.
Is it possible to do connections for MDM using http or soap?

As far as I know using Files is how XI interacts with MDM. All scenarios I have seen on SDN have been with File adapter being used on MDM 's side.
Maybe there is a way , am watching this thread as well.

Query on components to be used for SAP SRM Installation

We have a requirement for SRM Server.. I need some help on what installation objects should I download. This is on AIX and DB2
for "EHP1 FOR SAP SRM 7.0 -> based on SAP NetWeaver 7.02"
I'm sure that I'll need :
1) Installation Master
2) Export (SAP SRM 7.0 EHP1 Installation Export 1-3 of 3) 51038765_1
I have queries on this:
3) For Java stack, the component available is BS7i2010 Java Components 1x4 of 4
I have NW 7.3 based EP system. Can that be used for Java or Do I need to install another stand alone Java ?
If it can be used:
- Will it not create problems b'coz portal is on 7.3 and SRM is based on 7.02
- are there any SRM Java specific components in this installation object or is it a plain NW 7.02 Java stack ?
4) What is SAP SRM 7.0 EHP1 Components in terms of functionality given?
5) We need MDM Server:.
For MDM Server: Where do I need to download MDM Server from ? I am not sure If we have license under our S-user.. Can you give me the path where download starts ?

Alert Categories - Can they be used for Non-BPM scenarioes?

Will I be able to send alerts for Adapter Engine errors (Through the use of Alert Categories), if I am not using BPM?

Hi,
From your answer, can I confirm that alerts I defined in ALERTCATDEF can be used by for Non-BPM interfaces?
The essential difference between BPM and Non-BPM alert triggering is BPM allows a control step to trigger an alert.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Suggested feature useful for side cache scenarios

According to a phone discussion with Jon Purdy, when using a TransactionMap/CacheAdapter, a large amount of lock-related traffic goes out to the cache servers, even in case of OPTIMISTIC/GET_COMMITTED (in the Coherence prepare phase of the JTA transaction commit, in this particular setting) .
     Let's consider the situation, when the same data is written to the database (Oracle) and to the transactional-cache together, first writing the row to the DB, then to the cache. Let the transactional cache be configured as OPTIMISTIC/GET_COMMITTED, and the DB configured as READ_COMMITTED.
     In this case, the DB ensures, that after prepare() on the XAResource for the Oracle connection completed, you acquired the corresponding lock in the DB to all entries that Coherence would try to lock. These locks in the DB would be released during DB commit.
     Therefore, in this situation, all Coherence locking and lock releasing operations (which would come after DB prepare and before DB commit, so i.e. they would be held only while all the corresponding locks also exist in the DB) are unnecessary, provided all the clients use this policy to write to the DB and the cache.
     Therefore I would suggest a property for the CacheAdapter which would disable lock-related traffic in situations like this. It could also be extended to the TransactionMap, because similar mechanisms might be in place with other resources as well, not only 2PC Oracle.
     This could reduce the latency of the Coherence commit operations in these cases.
     Of course, I may have overlooked something, but currently I believe what I wrote up there is correct.

     Considering the situation where Coherence:
     * is acting as a "fully reliable" cache (e.g. using a cache entry in an optimistic transaction will never result in a rollback)
     * only caches data from other data sources (e.g. Coherence never acts as the system of record)
     There are two primary means of affecting the state of the cache:
     * updates to the database will update the cache
     * reads from the database will update the cache
     The challenge is how to handle the situation where one thread is committing changes and another thread is reading from the database. Oracle usually will not block reads (especially with READ_COMMITTED), so these are fully concurrent operations.
     So you could end up with the sequence (simulating the existance of global time, and ignoring potential server failures):
     t1 SELECT from Oracle (A=1)
     t1 UPDATE to Oracle (A=2)
     t1 PREPARE (acquires lock)
     t2 reads from cache (A=1)
     t1 COMMIT and update the cache (A=2)
     This would show up as a optimistic concurrency exception (if t2 tries to commit). The only difference is that t2 got "stale" (obsolete READ_COMMITTED) data from the cache rather than the database. Cache reads will generally be no more dirty than database reads.
     In this particular case, you can clean up cache reads by pinning active items out of the cache. In other words, lock the cache entry and then mark the entry as "temporarily nonexistant". Subsequent reads will block (if reading with a lock) or will read dirty data (if reading without a lock) ... it's the usual tradeoff between optimistic and pessimistic concurrency strategies. For read-heavy apps that can tolerate the occasional rollback, you can get by with dirty reads. For write-heavy apps, or those that can't handle rollbacks cleanly, you'll want to use the cache locking approach (effectively using the cache as a pessimistic "throttle" for the optimistic database).
     Using this pinning approach converts the transactions to hierchical form, allowing you to explicitly lock cache entries, with better reliability characteristics than XA transactions, and with less overhead.
     The short form of this is that you might not want to use Coherence as a transactional resource if it is acting as a pure cache of the database. If you have data in Coherence that is not in the database, then the current transactional approach is probably best.

SRM MDM Catalog (Subscreen Error)

I am facing an issue with the SRM MDM catalog.
We are currently implementing SRM-MDM catalog 1.0 SP1 Patch01 HF1.
Our MDM server version is MDM 5.5 SP5 Patch02 HF1.
The steps while creating a Shopping Cart are as follows:
- Log into SRM Shopping Screen.
- Select the SRM MDM Catalog
- Inside the SRM MDM catalog select an item and click on the shopping basket to add the item to the shopping cart.
- Once I click on the shopping basket we are getting the below error

What has happened?
The URL http://mb1es1001.idcsap.com:8000/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbpsc01/ was not called due to an error.

What can I do?
If the termination type was RABAX_STATE, then you can find more information on the cause of the termination in the system SR6 in transaction ST22.
If the termination type was ABORT_MESSAGE_STATE, then you can find more information on the cause of the termination on the application server MB1ES1001_SR6_00 in transaction SM21.
If the termination type was ERROR_MESSAGE_STATE, then you can search for more information in the trace file for the work process 1 in transaction ST11 on the application server MB1ES1001_SR6_00 . In some situations, you may also need to analyze the trace files of other work processes.
If you do not yet have a user ID, contact your system administrator.

Check the SAP Note 967088 and download the configuration guide from SAP official website (SAP Marketplace - OSS Login required). Did you raised any message with SAP as well on this yet. If not, please do the same for faster processing of your query.
Please check what all error logs appear in SLG1 and RZ10 and RZ20 transactions in this case.
Which SRM/CCM/MDM versions, support packs are you using ?
FYI, Catalog names are case sensitive.
OCI parameter should be like this.

MDM_CLNT_EXTR is used to extract main table information.It bacically extracts data in IDOC format so PI is required to convert IDOC format into XML format before sending data to MDM.

SRM-MDM Catalog Problems

Hi ,
We are in POC for SRM7.0 with MDM3.0 Catalog. Here I have some questions
1) We are not using any external catalog i.e you said that is only internal MDM catalog is XI required for this??
We are not using any Contracts,PIR from ECC or SRM. and We have created some products in to the MDM system repository and created an System in SAP EP and linked MDM system to SAP EP. But we are not able to see any search or products in the SAP EP UI. All are showing as errors. Can you please guide me what is the next steps to be followed??
2) I have Given the Same URL which we are using for access of SRM via portal will it trigger MDM-Catalog link also??
3) I want to show some images in the catalog.
Can you please guide me what is the next steps to follow..

Doubts on SRM MDM Catalog

Few doubts on SRM MDM Catalog...
1. I am running SRM MDM Catalog 1.0 and when i launch the http://localhost:50100/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/tc~mdmsrmui/MDM_SRM_UI_App (Webdynpro UI) am not getting the password field only server with no password is working here.
What should be done to have this password field?
2. I have deployed SRM MDM Catalog 1.0 webdynpro content and SRM MDM Java API on WAS 7.0 and i am using MDM Server as sp5 with SRM MDM Catalog repository .Will it work or not?

Hi Vijay,
Are you sure you have the latest patch for SRM-MDM? I am at SRM-MDM Catalog 1.0 SP01 Patch00 Hotfix02, and I now have the server password field displayed in Config UI (wasn't there in early versions).
As for your second question, I guess you will have to be more specific. Or better wait until you set everything up, and run a test from Shopping Cart. Then revert with problems, if any.

Access MDM Catalog used Portal

I have installed SRM 5.0, MDM Catalog 5.5 and Portal 7.0.
I need to create catalog using the Portal, because the Frontend the MDM catalog is very difficult for user.
Is this possible in the Portal? Is there any Business Package what create IVIEWS for this?

Hi Claudio,
There is a complete package for creating Portal iViews on top of an MDM catalog. These packages (BP MDM APPLICATION 5.5, and BP MDM TECHNOLOGY 5.5) can be downloaded from the SAP Service Marketplace, assuming you have the appropriate authorisation.

MDM Catalog problem after SRM7 upgrade to EHP2

Dear Experts,
we start our project to upgrade our SRM landscape from 7.0 to EHP2. Now we are facing some problems with the MDM catalog connection. Nothing was changed in the customizing or parameters. The MDM catalog connection provided by SRM NWBC for HTML and customized as external services.
Releases:
MDM Server 7.1 SP8
MDM Catalog 3.0
Netweaver for MDM Server 7.01 SP3
Now when we are using the link we get an Server error 500 from MDM SAP Netweaver with the following description:
Of course we check the regarding note without any success.
Configured links in floorplanmanager

In basic terms, MDM is latest solution & will be replacing CCM. All new features like service hierarchies are included in MDM 3.0.
CCM: upload, manage, and search in procurement catalogs.

UOM Conversion? Which fields I hv to use for UOM value in Order, Delivery?

1- In our system, 1 Box = 6 EA(CH)
So, I need to compare Order, Delivery, PGI quatities for some report purpose.......So, Is there any SAP Function Module, that I can use for CONVERSION?
Scenario: actually, am looking to convert quatities......i mean, if Order UOM is BX of qty 1.........where as the delivery UOM is EA of quatity 6..........so, both r same and varinace is 0.
2 - Wht is the field I hv to use for UOMs in Order, Delivery, PGI/Material doc?

You can use the function CF_UT_UNIT_CONVERSION to UOM conversion.
    call function 'CF_UT_UNIT_CONVERSION'
         exporting
              matnr_imp     = itab_pot-matnr
              unit_new_imp = ztb_vend_min-min_uom
              unit_old_imp = itab_pot-meins
              value_old_imp = w_conv_qty
         importing

Can you pls clarify what do you mean by 'four level package structure' ?
Are you referring to the ABAP structures that get created during creating the proxy by SPROXY transaction ? These structures get automatically created. We simply have to write the code using these structures.
Or do you mean the 'package' which is mandatory to create a transportable ABAP object ? i.e. transport from Development to Staging and then Production.

Help in estimating number of dialogue steps for portal user scenarios

I am looking for your expert advice in determining the number of dialogue steps for SAP portal users in the following scenarios:
1) External users accessing a SAP portal to access utilities services such as viewing bills, paying bills, update meter readings etc. The system needs to support 6000 concurrent users.
2) Internal users (customer service agents) accessing IS-U, CRM (potentially BW) via an internal SAP portal. The system needs to support 2000 concurrent users. .
It would be extremely helpful to hear from anyone that has been involved in SAP portal implementations who could advise me on number of dialogue steps to use for each user scenario.
