MDM Data Manager Masks, field Shared

Hi experts,
while creating a mask in the MDM Data Manager I noticed the field Shared. It can be set to Yes and No.
Can anyone tell me what this field does? I couldn't find any reference to it in the documentation of the MDM Data Manager, current version, MDM 7.1 SP07, May 12, 2011.

could you please elaborate a bit more?
I just created a Mask that is not shared. Then I logged on with another user. That other user can see the mask and select it in the data manager. That other user also see the records contained within the mask.
I don't see any chenge when I set the Mask to shared.
Is this something that is related to Roles, maybe?

I recently started reading MDM. I am clear with MDM-Console concepts. But I have problem with MDM Data Manager. I am confused with data entries in qualified tables, work flows(using microsoft studio), Matching mode- rules(High treshold, low threshold) etc.. I read material posted in forums- but still I am not clear.
I need a step-by-step process for data entries with *examples*. A good example which covers all Data Manager concepts. PDF's with screen shots, videos any thing would help.

MDM 5.5 has 4 MDM clients to perform 4 main functionality on the MDM master records.
- Console- This is where all the Administrative work is performed
- Data Manager- This is where the actual maintainence work is done on the master data like consolidation deduplication etc.
- Import manager- Thsi is from where the source matser records are taken into MDM repoistory
- Syndicator- This is from where teh consolidated master data is send back to the target systems.
MDM Data Manager is the heart of MDM
The activities that can be performed in the MDM Data manager are:
- Data Consolidation
- Data Validation
- Data Deduplication
- Data Assignment
- Data Governanace
etc......
Qualified Table:
- Qulaified tables are used to store relational records where one field value is determining the other field or fields value.
- Qualified tables are maintained in Console and can be viewed in Data Manager
- Qualified Table are viewed under a separate section in Data Manager in the right hand side.
- Qualified table has Non qualifiers and Qualifiers.
- Non qualifiers can be seen in the Qualified table and in the linking Qualified field
- Qualifiers can be seen separately under the Qualified section in the data manager

Workflows
- Workflows are designed in MDM for Governanace
- You can create the MDM workflow using the MS Visio 2003 stencils in the MDM Data manager in the record mode under the workflow table
- The saved workflow in DM can then be executed either mnaully or automatically based on teh trigger actions
- The trigger action for teh MDM wf are record Add,Update,Import,Manual

Matching Mode
- This mode is exclusively for Master data deduplication
- We need to create Rules,Strategies,Transformation in MDM data manager in teh record mode
- Then you need to run these strategies on the selected records
- Based on your score and threshold set in the strategy MDM will identify duplicate records
- This score will be seen in teh Matching mode
- Colour coding is used along with scores to find out dupliactes
- Green - 100%dupliacte Blue- 50?% Red- No duplicate

MDM Data Manager - Freezes at loading Local Searches

Hi all,
While the loading the MDM data manager (DM) the application freezes for ~5 min while stating "Loading Local Searches", before the DM is finíshed loading.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem, or at least where the local searches are stored on the drive?

As per my knowledge, there may be some reasons for this problem.
1. There might be a version mismatch between the MDM server and the MDM Data Manager Gui. You can check the verison only when the Data Manager opens.
However, you can check it for other GUi's and compare it with the MDM server version. ( Even the build version should match).
2. There might be huge number of records saved in your repository.
3) You might have changed the repository strutcure which has not been updated throughout.
There might be some other problem also.
Possible solutions:
1. Unload the repository and Load it again with UPDATE INDICES. This might solve the problem at the root itself.
2)I would suggest you to check your GUI version and upgrade it if its not matching with the MDM server version.
3)If still not working, you can try-unistalling the DM client and re-installing it again.
Please note these 2 steps before performing the step 2 and step3.
Check the repository for errors and if any, then verify it
Do take a back of the repository from the Console- Use Archive repository.

Deleting DataLocationGroups (with MDM Data Manager or MDM Java API)

I´ve a lot of DataLocationGroups which are results of tests (importing pictures into the images tables but not stored as BLOB). I can´t see that the underlying table is exposed within MDM Data Manager. So i tried to delete the useless nodes with the DeleteGroup command.
However this seems not to be supported by the API
com.sap.mdm.commands.CommandException: Deleting of data location groups is currently unsupported
at com.sap.mdm.group.commands.DeleteGroupCommand.execute(DeleteGroupCommand.java:91)
I´m using the new Java API with MDM 5.5SP6.
No chance to remove the nodes?

Thanks for your answer. I would possibly open a service call to check if there is a hotfix available. Maybe you have some idea how i can check if the a Location is already existent? From experiments when importing with the MDM Data manager, it seems that a path is represented by a tree of HierLocationGroupNodes.
For example: I´ve imported from
cde271480MMPPpictures.jpg using the Data Manager. When using the RetrieveGroupTree Command, i can see that there are two nodes named cde271480 (Id: GN39) with child node named MMPP (Id: GN89).
Maybe i now want to use the API to import a picture from
cde271480 estlocation into the images table. To get a locationID usable for the setDataLocationId i had to compare the pathname of the picture with elements of the GroupTree from the root. If one element of the path is not existent in the tree, i have to create this new element and connect it to the parent. And i can then use the ID of the Leaf node for the DataLocationId. Is this correct?

Connection Issues MDM Data Manager using Vista

Hello
I am trying to connect to the MDM Data Manager(v 5.5) and get a message "Cannot Connect to MDM Server". My colleague is doing the same thing and it works for him. The only difference is that he is on XP and I am on Vista.
Is there something which I need to do from my side to make it work from Vista ?

Hi,
There are additional patches you need to install for working on Vista. This is the file name - "MDMGC55006P3HF_10-10003297" you need to download from SMP and install them on your local machine for all the clients namely console, DM,IM,Syndicator.
After instaling this, it'll surely work.

SAP MDM Data Manager Master Record

Hi All,
Currently we have two master records in the MDM repository however the original user who created these is no longer here; due to this these records are unable to be updated or deleted in SAP MDM Data Manager
I cant find away of deleting these or moving ownership, I am hoping someone can assist

If you have the Admin login cerdentails use those to delete the records.
It would be helpful if your could give the version
for 5.5 default Admin credentails are Admin and no password
for 7.1 default Admin and password is sapmdm
try these else ask for Basis/ MDM Administrator for Admin login credentails

Connection to MDM data manager

I have connected to repository through console.But when I am trying to connect to data manager nothing is displayed like a blank screen ?What can be the reason for this?

What do you mean by "like a blank screen". Are you able to see data manager main login window where we need to provide user login credentials?? Because, as soon as you click on the data manager Icon, it will open data manager login window. Once you provide user credentials, it will open data manager in record mode.
Can you explain your issue further more...Is import Manager and other components working fine?? On what MDM version you are working...
Also, if your lastly connected MDM server is not reachable (MDM 5.5), then sometime Data manager and import manager hangs up because of Last database entry in the registry.. Check this thread in case your problem is same

When I was trying to load. MDM did an error message becasuse of missing information so I have add what MDM asked for:

External Manufacturer: External Manufacturer
Minimum Quantity: 001
Minimum Quantity UoM: items
Item Status: Not blocked
Now there is no error by the excel lines are skipped. Why MDM skip de lines?

Is it possible to restrict fields in MDM Data Manager

Hi All,
Is the following scenario possible in MDM?
I have a look up table say Country:- INDIA,UK,US,AUS. when you select a particular look up table value he should be entering a particular fileds on the main table levle only and all other field value should be read only... Wondering is it possible to resctirct with out creating a specific user for each look up value?

Error while opening MDM Data Manager

Hi,
We are getting the following error while trying to open Data manager on our repository.
"Error Initializing Attributes for table Taxonomy
Application will exit
Already exists"
mds Version 5.5.42.90
MDM DataManager Ver5.5.42.90
The repository loads without any errors. The server log file too doesnt show any errors.
Is there anyway to fix this?

Go to your MDM console, Login to repository and Unload repository first.
Then load with Update Indices.
This problem comes when you change anything in schema in console and then load repository with immediate option.
So always prefer to use update indices as accelator files will get updated and data comes from actual database.
If the problem still persists then Go again to console and check your repository for any fatal error. if errors come then repair repository and if not come then also repair.
Then load with update indices.

MDM Data manager :Unable to perform Checkout/in operations on record

Hi forum,
When I am trying to checkout records in data manager, I receive an error 'The Requested error was not found , verson 5.5 SP06'. Same error appears when we are executing checkin and roll back on any record in repository.
Please advise on resolution steps for this.

May be it role dont have permissions to checkout(in) records?

Hi Kannan,
Data Manager can only connect to repositories that are loaded and running on a running MDM Server. To check this, you have to use MDM Console:
1. Start MDM Console and mount your MDM Server. A green arrow icon before your server name indicates that your MDM Server is running. If not, start the MDM Server.
2. You'll see a list of repositories available for this server. If your repository is not visible, you have to mount it first. You can do so by right-clicking on the server and choose the action from the context menu. If your repository is visible, login to the repository and check the repository state. Again a green arrow icon before your repository indicates that the repository is loaded. If not, load the repository! As soon as your repository is running, you can conntect to it with the Data Manager.

Unable to use 'Visio Professional 2003' with 'SAP MDM Data Manager 7.1'

Hello,
I'm currently working with MDM 7.1, and I installed 'Visio Professional 2003 SP2' to build my workflows.
The problem is that:
(1)- As the third pane ('Step Properties') did not appear in Visio when I drag & dropped icons => I executed 'Data Manager' help procedure (p. 301 / 302); cf.: help.sap.com : configuration of file paths in Visio, via 'Tools'>'Options''Advanced', etc.
(2)- After these steps, when I launched Visio again in Data Manager, my menu bar had disappeared in Visio, and I couldn't save my workflow, even with the 'Save' icon.
Does somebody know, or understand, what's happening, please?

As you have already installed MS-VISIO 2003.
Did you install Install Workflow Engine i.e. WorkflowInstall_Ver setup ?
If not please install it and then restart your machine.
Also, Note: Microsoft office Visio 2003 should be Standard edition.

Adding a record to a relationship | MDM data manager

Hi , Following is my situation ...
I have some material numbers in the product table in the material repository which are a part of a kit . Basically a kit is a comination of some material numbers put together . Now this kit is also in the same product table appearing as another material number . So as you can see , this is a parent-child relationship but within the same table (product table) .
Now I have defined the relationship table in the console and have also defined the type of relationship in the same . The product table is also involved with another table in a product level relationship . When i open the data manager and double click the relationship name under the record detail tab , i can see the pop-up window but it does not allow me to add any records to the relationship .
The guide tells me to use the "Relationship" menu option by selecting the number of records I want to add to a relationship and then use the relationship menu on the top of data manager , but when I tried to do that , the options are greyed out .
What do you guys think is the problem ??

Deepak,
You should be all set with setting the table up in the Console. Once you add the Parent/Child relationship there it should be active in the Data Manager.
To add parts to the table in the Data Manger:
Select a specific part (the parent part)
Double click on the child field in the relationships table
It should open the new dialog box and default to the child tab in it
This dialog box will remain open and you can move around in the Data Manager without changing this selection
Find the part(s) you want to add to the relationship as children
Select them in the Records window and drag-and-drop them into the Relationship window that is open
It should add them right in.
You should also be able to add them with the Import Manager
For Import Manger set up a file with:
Parent                  Child
Parent1                 Child1
Parent1                 Child2
Parent1                 Child3
Parent2                 Child4
Parent2                 Child5
You should be able to map this to the Relationships table and import the relationships instead of manually mapping in the Data Manager.

MDM Data Manager User Logon

How many times can a user logon to a repository through the data manager GUI client? I was able to log on 10 times using the same user.

If at a time many users can login with the same user id then there may be unnecessary load on the server.
@Aalok as u mentioned u can only login 9 times with the same user and it does not allow 10th time
Its not so because I am to login more than 15 times why is it so ??
How dis problem could be solved ??
