MDM DBMS

Dear All,
Based on the MDM 7.1 installation guide on Unix (Oracle), the central system installation creates a new SAP system for MDM and installs the following instances on a single host: MDS, MDIS, MDSS. But before the MDS can handle data, you must install and configure the database.
Should the central installation of MDS, MDIS and MDSS be completely done before installing the database? Since the Oracle DB is not part of the central system installation, should a separate license be applied for it?
I have already checked the Master, Sizing, Installation guides and SAP notes on Further Notes about Installation of MDM 7.1, Release Notes and Release Restrictions. If you have other readings to recommend, I would really appreciate if you can share them with me.

Here in above document, you will see Setup MDM Server For a Central System Installation (Step1.2) followed after Set up the Database Server(Step1.1). So ideal approach: Central installation of MDS, MDIS and MDSS should be completed after installing the database.

I try to connect to Oracle DB with SAP MDM Import Manager but I cant.
I entered property in "Connect to Sorce" window.

I tried to connect oracle DB except "< and >" symbol but It did not work.
I installed windowXP 32bit , Oracle client 32bit and SAP MDM Import manager 32bit in My local PC.
Also I connect to MDM DB using sqlplus in My local PC.
I wonder that TNSNAME.ORA is used DB connection using SAP MDM Import manager ??
I think TNSNAME.ORA is not used when I connect to DB using SAP MDM Import manager because I enter parameters are properties of TNSNAME.ORA.
I don`t know why don`t connect to DB.

MDM ABAP API.

Hi All,
We have installed MDMTECH_554_700 on our 2004s.
We also configured all post installation steps like
1)MDM Repositories
2)MDM Server Connections
3)Mdm Dbms Hosts
4)ABAP Implementation for MDM Version Support
5)MDM API Trace Configuration.
It seems all connection settings are fine.Is there anyway to test the connection properties/configuration?
We tried to execute MDM_ADMIN_RETRIEVE_ALL_REPS with
1) MDM Connection which we created in the above configuration steps.(i.e..,MDMTECH_554_700)
We are getting like "Error in repository configuration: MDMTECH_554_700 not found"
Please help us.

You actually named your logical object name, MDMTECH_554_700? The logical object name that the function module is looking for is actually the key name that you supplied in transaction MDMAPIC when you setup your MDM Repository.
Also to use MDM_ADMIN_RETRIEVE_ALL_REPS, you also want to supply the DBMS information as well since you want cross repository information.
Actually the function module that I use to test MDM API ABAP connections is MDM_ADMIN_RETRIEVE_USERS. It has a simplier interface, in that you only have to specify the logical object name.
If you have any problems determining what the logical object name refers to, feel free to send me an email (it is in my SDN business card and also not too difficult to figure out standard SAP addresses). If you email me some screen shots of you configuration in MDMAPIC, I can tell you what value you should be using.

Here is the breif discription about MDM ABAP API.
_Introduction_
The MDM ABAP API (MDM4A) provides an interface for accessing SAP MDM 5.5 using ABAP. The interface is easy to configure and convenient to use. The MDM4A is delivered on SAP Web AS 6.40 and 7.00.Using MDM4A functionalities operations on records (create retrieve, update, delete, query, etc) and metadata (tables, fields etc) and administrative functions (such as repository) are delivered. By using MDM4A ABAP developers do not have to learn the SAP NetWeaver MDM specific data types.
Customization settings for MDM ABAP API
u2022Integration
The API is automatically registered in the SLD when the repository and connection information is configured in a system. The MD ABAP API customizing is done through a transaction MDMAPIC, this transaction consists of following elements
1.MDM DBMS Hosts
Stores the information regarding the database server connection.
Repositories may reside on a DBMS that is a different physical system than the MDM server itself
The Drop Down Box for DB Type will show all support DBMS types.
The name in the MDM DBMS field is arbitrary and only know to ABAP
2.MDM Server Connections
Stores the information regarding the database server connection.
Define the TCP/IP communication settings for connection to the MDM Server
Enter the Server Hostname and the Port for communication
Typically the MDM server runs on Port 20005
The name in the MDM Connection field is arbitrary and only know to ABAP
3 ABAP Implementation for MDM version support
Stores the information regarding the used provider implementation.
Different releases of SAP NetWeaver MDM may require technical differences in the Low Level Provider Class
This configuration will allow you to assign a provider class to a set of repository configuration settings
4.MDM Repositories
Stores the name of the target Repository, and a logical object name that refers to the information regarding MDM server, DBM etc.
We tie all our configurations together by specifying for a repository: what server, DBMS, and Provider it should use
The Object name is arbitrary and only know to ABAP u2013although it is used as the key to read all the configuration
The MDM Repository must be the real repository name as it is displayed from the MDM Console.
u2022Trusted System Connection
The SAP NetWeaver MDM Server(s) must trust their AS-ABAP counterparts.
Trusting is configured via two files on the SAP NetWeaver MDM server u2013allow.ip and deny.ip.
These files contain the IP addresses of the AS-ABAP systems that you want to control access from.
Configuration at Server Side
To establish a trusted relationship between R\3 and MDM we need to do some configuration. This configuration is done so that MDM server should know which client is trusted for connection and communication.
This is necessary to create a text file u201Callow.ipu201D which contains the IP addresses of Systems that want to connect to MDM Server. This file should be placed in the same directory where mds.ini file exists. It is also possible to use a wild card for the entire subnet .For example 10.58.0.* this indicates that any address with in the network 10.58.0 is considered to be trusted.
deny.ip.
In order to allow an entire subnet but specify some exceptions it is necessary to define these IP address in the deny.ip file. Put this file in the same directory where the mds.ini file exists.
User Authentication
Because there is a trusted relationship, no passwords must be passed through MDM4A The AS-ABAP user identity (SY-UNAME) will automatically be passed through the MDM4A interface.
A repository user with the same ID must exist on the SAP NetWeaver MDM server side for a role to be assigned to the request.

Getting following error while trying to connect MySQL server to the MDM Import manager.
logon Error:[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied
i have supplied the following paramter values.
Type : SQL server
Remote System : MDM
DBMS server : localhost
Database Name : testing
user: < MySQL user name>
password : < MySQL password>

Dbms settings in mdm console

hi all
i have installed mdm server, console and oracle database. after installing console i could start mdm server through console , but when i try to configure dbms settings , it shows me the error message , " error in initializing database engine :

Hey Akhil,
In the MDM console right click on the SAP MDM SERVER and Mount the MDM Server by specifying either the IP address or the host name of the MDM Server.
After u mount the MDM server if it is in stopped mode then start it.
If u want to mount any repository right click on thatMDM server and say either create repository or unarchive repository.
If u want to unarchive any repository u must keep the A2A files which are provided along with SAP Business content on the MDM server SAP MDM -->> Server -->> Archives.
Then only u will be able to unarchive the repository and get the structure provided by SAP like for eg. Vendor,Employee,Article,Material etc...

I am on the way of integrating ABAP API in PI 7.1 EHP 1 with MDM 7.1
I installed MDM ABAP API in PI system.
In transaction MDMAPIC, created MDM Server Connection with default port, DBMS Hosts and MDM Repository.
After I did the above tasks, I tested the RFC Connection, But its failed with the following error.

I have installed Both AS ABAP and AS JAVA Stack separately and going forward I need to know
1) Do I need to install any other servers other than this like EP and PI etc?
2) I also wanted to install SRM MDM, for that I have gone through some documents and threads and found that

1. SRM Server- Installed with ORACLE database
2) For SRM MDM
Ø Download the SRM-MDM Catalog 2.0 installable from Market Place-- Done
Ø Install the MDM Server and other GUI Clients--Done
Ø UnArchive the SRM-MDM repository available with the installables only
 Need help for
 . Not able to find DBMS server
 . User
 . Password for DBMS setting
Ø Deploy the two SCA files - MDMJavaAPI and SRMMDMCAT on WAS and restart the Portal- Done
Ø Access the Config UI by using the URL http://:/SRM-MDM/SRM_MDM and change the layout as per the requirement. In this you can specify the fields to be displayed for Search, type of UI etc for the particular user

Will follow the below steps once the above issues are resolved
*Create the Web Service in SRM system and specify all the required

As you have already installed Java stack then it will be your EP. You don't need PI for SRM MDM.

The DBMS Server property defines the network identification string of the DBMS instance / machine / server that is used by the DBMSspecific client on the MDM Server machine to connect to the DBMS. The brand of DBMS on which the repository is running is shown in the DBMS Type property.
NOTE ►► When you mount two MDM repositories with the same name (but located on different DBMS Servers) on the same MDM Server, MDM distinguishes them in the Console Hierarchy pane by appending the name of the DBMS Server in angular brackets to the repository name (e.g. u201Crepository <server>u201D).

SRM MDM Installation Problem (.a2a file Unarchive issue)

I am totally new for SRM MDM, and need to install SRM MDM and configure the system.
Below are the steps what i have done till up to
Already SRM 5.0 Installed
Installed Oracle 10g ( with diffrent Oracle SID as I have already one Oracle installed for SRM)
1) Installed MDMServer- Version.5.5.41.70.exe
2) Installed SAP MDM Console
3) Installed SAP MDM Data manager
4) Installed SAP MDM Import manager
5) Copied .a2a file in -Program Files\SAP MDM 5.5\SERVERS/Archive
Could you please explain....
1) How to deploy MDMJAVAAPI05_1.sca and SRMMDMCAT01_0.sca in the SAP WAS
Not able find "RemoteGui.bat" or "Configtool.bat" in Program Files\SAP MDM 5.5 but I can find these files in SRM
G:\usr\sap\ECC\DVEBMGS04\SDM\program\RemoteGui.bat and
G:\usr\sap\ECC\DVEBMGS04\j2ee\configtool\configtool.bat
2) How to Unarchive the SRMMDMCAT01_0.sca in MDM Console
In fact I am not getting any User folder under "Program Files\SAP MDM 5.5 "

Hi,
1. Deploy MDMJAVAAPI05_1.sca and SRMMDMCAT01_0.sca in the SAP WAS using SDM.
For more information about installation and Configuration please refer SAP Note # 1057316
2. to unarchive repository steps are follows:
     1. copy .a2a file in the archive directory of MDM server
      2. open console and mount MDM server.
      3. right click on server and select unarchive repository. provide the DBMS connection details and Repository Name and specify the .a2a file. then click ok. This will unarchive your repository. For more details please refer to console reference guide.

Error while create or mount a repository in MDM

Hi,
after installing SAP MDM 5.5 SP06 and SAP MaxDB 7.6.00.35 on the same hardware (Laptop with Windows NT Client) I started MDM Console, mounted the MDM Server and then started the MDM Server (green arrow).
When I try to add a repository (unarchiving an existing or creating a new one) I enter the data (DBMS eerver, User-ID and password) and then I always get the same error message:
"Error Getting DBMS Settings" --> "Error initializing database engine".
Any ideas where the problem is?

Receiver MDM adapter not working !!! Please suggest !!!

mine is a idoc to MDM adapter scenerio. The idoc message is successfully passing the PI integration engine , but failing in the adapter engine ( MDM communication channel ) giving the following message.
Configuration error: Can not create repository session - server=xxxxxx.XX.XXXXXX.net serverUser=Admin repository=xxxxxxxx user=Admin]' caused by: The specified MDM repository was not found on the server (xxxxxx) Configured MDM access parameters for inbound port: [ MDM Server: xxxxx.xx.xxxxxx.net , Repository: xxxxxxxxxx , Port Code: CREMMDM0XIncrementalData , Remote System Code: ECC , DBMS Server: xxxxxx.xx.xxxxxx.net , DBMS Type: ORCL
I have tried connecting to the same MDM server using a receiver file adapter and it is working absolutely fine. But dont know why the mdm adapter is giving the following error. I have cross checked the adapter parameters with the MDM guy. They are OK.
I was wondering this was a version / service error, how can I chack the service pack of MDM Comm channel .

Try a reset, which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.

I have problems to connect with Database Server in MDM SP5

Hi,
I am upgrading to SP and get problems to connect to the database server. I am able to start and stop the MDM server, but if I tru to create a new repsoitory or unarchive a repository I get this errormessage. "Unable to connect with Datase Server". In ealier versions og MDM i did not give any username or password whwn I made a new repositirt. Do you need to that no?
I see in the mds.ini file that there is defined a user "Sql Server DBA Username=master ". I sthis the user we shall use or is there another user?

Difficulties when creating a slave repository on MDM 7.1

Hi Experts,
We're trying to create a Slave repository on MDM 7.1, but when trying to connect to the other DBMS a message shows up saying that it's unable to connect with Database Server.
I went to the MDM log and found the following message:
Service 'MQ0', Schema 'system', ERROR CODE=12154 ||| ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified Last CMD:
Important information:
The servers are different, one for the master and the other for slave. (the DB is also in each correspondent server).
Both servers are on the same network.
The Oracle Listener is up and working, we could telnet it.
Does anybody faced with something similar?

Use of Foreign Keys in MDM

Hi All,
Is there any mean by which we can use Foreign Keys in MDM.
Sighting an example.
We have 3 table with fields:
Products(Main Table): Material No( UF)
Product Regions(Flat): Marerial No ( Foreign Key),Region: Lookup
Prices(Flat): Material No( Foreign Key),Region: Lookup(Foreign Key),Price Type: Lookup.
How is it possible to achieve the above mentioned scenerio.
And are Foreign Keys same as Unique Fields in MDM.

Hi Manish,
MDM server sits on the database server.
The database server is a DBMS.MDM repository does not work with the tables and fields structure in exactly the same way as an RDBMS.
So we do not use in the real sense the same Primary key Unique key concept.However we have the linkup/lookup field concept in MDM.
Where a field in the main table can reference another field in the lookup table.
So if you relate this to the RDBMS concept.The primary field in one table is the Foriegn key in another table.So in the lookup table we can refer a field of the main table.
say for eg:
You have a field Regions in the main table of type lookup flat.
This field is actually used in the lookup flat table say lookup regions.
This table has a field regions which is holding a legal set of values.
So the field Regions in main table is used in the Lookup table as well.Where in the main table it was the linking field and in the lookup table it is the field holding the lookup values.
So you can to an extent relate these 2 concepts but it does not precisily work in the same way in MDM.

MDM PI adapter not working

we are on MDM 7.1 SP04 AND PI7.1 SP06 AND MDM Java API Version is 7.1.04.138 i.e. on the latest version.
MDM PI adapter is not able to pick up the files from the MDM distribution folders..
Communication channel is functioning and in Green.
PI adapter is only picking up the files only when i manually activate the communication chennel.
what could be the reason.are there any other prerequisites for MDM PI adapter that we are missing upon.
if any one has come across the same issues and got this sorted out ..let me know please

kindly verify the values you mentioned in:
MDM Server (host name or IP)
MDM Repository Name, along with User and Password
DBMS Server (host name or IP) and DBMS Type
Port Code and Remote System Code of the outbound MDM port
and goto RWB and check the Communication Channel monitoring of your MDM Adapter.
