MDM installation on AIX 5.3 core dumps

Hi all,
We installed MDM 5.5 SP4 on AIX 5.3 ML 5 (and the latest patches were applied last week-end).
The MDM Server, Import and Syndication daemons are started.
Database is Oracle 10.2 (corresponding Oracle client is used), installed on the same server.
MDM client software is in sync with the server level.
Since the installation, we get core dumps of the mds daemon (even when trying to perform the most basic operations). Consider it to be completely unusable for testing anything. You look at it, it breaks. Sorry, but that is how it is.
MDM Patches and hotfixes to the patches have been applied up to the latest level The problem is reported at SAP Support and they have core dumps, logfiles, trace files for studying.  So far, the only feedback we got was to install MDM on its own server (it is a trial installation on a server where other applications are running - though I can hardly see that as a cause for core dumps).
My questions :
- are we unique in running MDM on this software paltform ?
- are others (if they exist experiencing the same problems on AIX 5.3 ?
To be honest : for the moment we are thinking about reinstalling on a Windows server.
Thanks in advance for any feedback,
Frank Van Overloop

Hello,
we have finally made some progress on this issue.
Basically, we suffered from a combination of :
- wrong usage of the product
- probably shaky exception handling in the AIX version
The cause was found by SAP MDM support after we reconstructed the problem while using a special debug-version of the mds executable. This produced a usable dump.
--- extract from the SAP reply -
The core dump shows a crash in recalculating the family tree after the
import. Family tree is being used only to create printed catalogs (which require the publisher and an additional license).
1) Do you have any value in the categories table?
2) Does the MDM server crash if you cancel the automatic family tree
recalculation in the import map, and answer "no" in the dialog box which asks to recalculate the family tree?
3) Do you intend to create a printed catalog?
If the answer to any of the questions is "no", then this asserts that
the recalculation of the family tree should not take place at all. In
this case the family table could/should be deleted. And this should not
reoccur.
end extract -
After we deleted this family table,  the tests are running stable.
It's a pity that the program does not 'die' in a more elegant way or gives some understandable indication on what is going wrong.
It also looks like this exception is handled better on the Windows implementation. The same 'functional mistake' was made there and this produced no dumps at all. Could be a porting issue from one platform to another.
Regards,
Frank

Installation of patch set complete. PLEASE REBOOT THE SYSTEM.
when i tried to reboot the system by init 6 the service iscsi hanged and produced syslog errors about a unkown iocall -> killed the process. System rebooted w/o errors.
Does anyone have got an idea how to find out which patch or whatever do produce these errors?

    Hi,
I'm having the same issue of diskmon core dumps after upgrading grid and database from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2 on Solaris 10 x86-64. Following this thread, I'm trying to deinstall the Oracle 11.2.0.1 grid home.
I answered the following questions asked by the grid deinstall tool:
    1. ASM configuration was not detected in this Oracle home. Was ASM configured in this Oracle home (y|n): y
    2. Specify the ASM Diagnostic Destination: /db01/app/oracle/diag/asm/+ASM
    3. Specify the diskgroups that are managed by this ASM instance: DATA FRA
    4. De-configuring ASM will drop all the diskgroups at cleanup time. Do you want deconfig tool to drop the diskgroups:
If I answer no to question 1, the tool exits with error.
How do I answer question #4? (confused about this question of dropping diskgroups, it's already been upgraded)
Deinstall of Oracle db Home 11.2.0.1 was successful.
The +ASM instance has been upgraded and is running fine under 11.2.0.2 except for the excessive diskmon core dumps.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

  • AIX core dump file,

    Hi
In AIX core dump file, we got this message
'SOFTWARE PROGRAM ABNORMALLY TERMINATED'CORE FILE NAME
    /scclive/oracle/inst/apps/SCC_ebsprod/ora/10.1.2/forms/core
    PROGRAM NAME
    frmweb
We are getting these errors frequently when there was some network issue between our server and PDC. That why oracle application server is hanging and we had to bounce for resolving the issue. Can anybody help how to resolve permanently from AIX point of view?
    Regards
    Ateeq

    Hi
1)In which way the PDC is connected to your EBIZ system?
No we are using hostfile. 2)If point 1 is correct then u should solve the network issue as the forms sessions are hanging coz of network issue OR If point 1 is correct then you must update the EBIZ system hostfile with the fully qualified domain name and remove DNS server for the EBIZ system to solve this issue.
We do have fully qualified domanin name in hostfile. As well as using DNS server also.Regards
    Ateeq

    Hi.
    What driver are you using?
You might have better luck posting this question on the JDBC newsgroup.

  • Core dump on boot during Yosemite installation

I have downloaded Yosemite from the App Store. All appears fine. When I run the installer, may MBP restarts for the installation but on rebooting it goes repeatedly into core dumps at the boot step. This can be interrupted using Cmd-R. When in Recovery Mode, resetting the Startup Disk will cure the failing reboots but then the installation has simply stopped and the computer boots into 10.9.5.
I have repeated this multiple times. I have 25 GB free disk space.
I expect that a clean install with cure this but I hate to have to do that.
    Tim

    I have the same problem.
After upgrading my MBpro from Lion to Yosemite installation finishes correctly and I can work in Yosemite.
But the next boot will result in repeated core dumps.
Restored Lion, deleted startup objects and 3rd Party drivers, tried again but the same problem.
Has the clean install helped ?

  • Installation stalls... Abort core dumped

    Hi,
    Can anyone please help!
I am trying to install BOE XI 3.1 on Solaris 10 <SPARC> on Solaris zones with Oracle 11g R2 database and Oracle 11g R2 32 bit client.
When the installer is at 40% <the stage where it tries to register the binaries> I get this error message
[error] [InstallSDK::Product::doInstallActions] Core detected after action: EarlyPostInstall.
I do know that Oracle 11g R2 is not certified, but there is no other 32bit oracle client for solaris sparc 64bit available. If it were a issue with the client, it would have stopped the installer earlier with a different error.
One thing to note is that the box on which the solaris zones is currently running on has 32 cores and the solaris zone has been assigned to use only 2 of them. Could it be a case, where the installer is looking at the cores in the box rather than the VM its running on during installation?
Cos the closest message I could find related with this error is that there is a third party memory handler in the installer that tries to allocate memory to the cores available and if the cores are greater than a certain number <64> the installer would hang.
Has anyone faced a similar issue? or could anyone point me in the right direction? Pls...

libhoard related issues are only visible if you have more than 64 CPU cores, it is a better solution to allocate <64CPU cores to the envitonment running BOE.
However, if you still want to disable default memory allocator below are the steps :
    WARNING :
Please use this at your own risk !! Better solution is to allocate less CPU cores. Product is tested with below memory allocator, disabling it might not be fully tested :
stop all Business Objects servers using the ./stopservers.sh or ./ccm -stop all scripts
    go to the directory bobje/setup
create a copy of the env.sh script
in a text editor, like VI, edit and comment out the following lines by adding a pound sign "#":
      before:
             LD_PRELOAD="libhoard.so.1"
             export LD_PRELOAD
      after:
    LD_PRELOAD="libhoard.so.1"
    export LD_PRELOAD
    Save the edited file
Now start all servers using the ./startservers.sh  or the  ./ccm.sh -start all script]

  • Core dump when starting extract, no error messages

    Hello,
This is a basic one way replication, Data Pump and Replicat start but Extract stops at once.
In ggserr.log there's only a message: EXTRACT EORATE02 starting, nothing else. In ggsci it can be seen that it's stopped.
CHECKPARAMS didn't give the message "Parameters processed successfully", neither did it give error messages
    when starting the extract.
There are no old Oracle processes which could prevent Extract from starting.
There's EORATE02.pce in dirpcs, although EORATE02 is not running. If I delete it and try to start the extract,
    the extract will immediately stop.
A core file has been created in GG_HOME when trying to start the extract. I haven't been able to find out how to read it.
Source and target are on Aix 6100-06. The source database is Oracle 10.1.0.5, target database is Oracle 11.2.0.3.
The installation files are V32435-01.zip for db 10.1.0.5 (ggs_AIX_ppc_ora10.1_64bit.tar), V32437-01.zip
for db 11.2.0.3 (ggs_AIX_ppc_ora11g_64bit.tar). This is GoldenGate 11.2.1.0.1.
    The db:s are on Asm.
There's only 1 table in source, 1 in target, they are identical and empty.
There's enough space in the OS.
If I run the extract in OS (extract paramfile dirprm/eorate02.prm), it ends like this without more information:

    Hello,
Could you wrap your process definitions in proper code brackets so its easier to understand.
Also I'm not sure what your problem is other then you are receiving core dumps. I'm happy to help.
Two small comment though regarding your ASM config
1 . Dont not use ggs_owner as the asm user
TRANLOGOPTIONS ASMUSER ggs_owner@HOSTNAME:1521/+ASM , ASMPASSWORD *********2. Create a TNSNAMES entry for your ASM instance and tehn use the following:
TRANLOGOPTIONS ASMUSER SYS@ASM, ASMPASSWORD *****Also here is an example of an extract process that I've setup on RAC database with ASM
    EXTRACT EWFMMTLP
    EXTTRAIL ./dirdat/ew

Through IBM, we got those answer :
Looking at the javacore files, we're seeing OOM errors. However,
looking at a heapdump, we're not seeing total heap space exhaustion -
around half of the heap is occupied, and occupancy by the vartious
objects seems, to me at least, to be normal.
    The threads
seem to be using the compound class loader to load the customer's
"Hibernate" code - and in the largest of the threads in the heapdump -
(it consumes 258,720,168 bytes), the class org/hibernate/impl/Session
Impl and its children - consume 129,540,864 bytes.
The other 128,785,680 is consumed by org/hibernate/proxy/CGLIBLazyInitia
lizer. There are some other classes that make up the small difference
    if you added these numbers.
The class com/softleader/hibernate/util/HibernateUtil and its children
    consume 74,932,848 bytes.
I could go on through the heapdump, but there are very large classes
in here, and it may be more advantageous to get a verbosegc turned on
to show the patterns of JVM Heap requirements.
I suppose that the customer is developing this app for a 32bit
architecture market, since they are keeping their JVM Heap within the
32 bit limits. If this is the case, then Xmx=1280 and Xms=384 seems a
more reasonable JVM setting. If they are not, and they want to try
Xmx above 1280, then we have not yet had much experience with 64 bit
but I'd expect that the larger heapsize would benefit the application.
Either way, we need verbosegc turned on to monitor the heap requests.
That mean, i have to turn up JVM Heap size? or what can i do for it?
    Thanks a lot.

I'd hook up a profiler to your app and monitor it to see what's happening and what objects aren't playing nice.

  • Redhat 6.0 Webdb 2.2 Server 8.1.5 sqlplus core dump segmentation fault solution

If anyone else is struggling with this installation, heres a workaround that
    Got things going for me.
    Redhat 6.0
    Oracle 8.1.5
    Webdb 2.2
The database was up and working fine. Not as many problems as earlier versions but there was still much grief getting it to work. Save yourself some time, dont charge ahead like I did, read the installation notes.
The installation of Webdb didnt go so well though. Sqlplus would core dump with segmentation fault when a connection to the local instance was attempted. I tried many things, install webdb to 8.1.5 , apply glibc patch, apply 8.0.5 patches to webdb install none of this worked. The workaround I finally found was to use the 8.1.5 listener and the old formatting of a listener.ora and tnsnames.ora file. (i.e. like 7.3.x). Sqlplus would then connect via tcp. Installation still had another problem I could never get past the sys password confirmation. I could connect from the command line with sqlplus s /nolog @passwd.sql sys/mypass@mytnsname but the installer just wouldnt work. An edit of the installation_dir ->webdb-2.2/owa40/owa40.vrf file did the trick. Hard code a location to a dummy pass.sys file.
After many frustrating hours 160 or so - I think I finally have a working database and a working webdb web site. Hope this info might help others.

o Did you end up with 8.1.5 and WebDB2.2 in different Oracle_homes?
    Yes - product/8.1.5
    - product/8.0.5
o What do you mean that you used the 8.1.5 listener? My database is 8.1.5 so the tnslistener I'm using is from the 8.1.5 install - not the 8.0.5 version.
o Can you send a sample of the tnsnames.ora file that you used?
Sure - make sure you set TNS_ADMIN

    (ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL= TCP)(Host= 139.142.231.213)(Port= 1521))

I located different copies in other directories and have created symobolic links to them all in the end. Thanks for your input. But having investiagted further I have made progress.
On one of the FAQ docs listed throughout the Linux Forum I found an example of what should be in the pcscfg.cfg file. Once this was in place I then had, /usr/bin/ld cannot find -laio (or the file /usr/lib/libaio.a). To get a clean(ish) compile, I created a symbolic link from libc.a to libaio.a which is crude but was effective. I had a working Pro C exe.
I understand that the second patch solves the libaio.a prob as well as others. But a colleague has installed it and had to regress it, due to more damaging problems he listed but I cannot recall at this time.
    Thanks again.
