Hi Shankar,
MDM have created a Standard <u>BUSINESS CONTENT</u> which u can find inside the folder where u have installed the software. For eg.
D:\MDM\
Now inside the business content folder u will find zipped files for different Masters such as MATERIAL,VENDOR,CUSTOMER etc.
<b>Step 1:</b>
Now unzip the MATERIAL zip file, which is ur requirement  in to a target location (local Hard disk).
<b>Step 2:</b>
Upon Unzip u will get 3 more zipped files namely Import maps,Export maps,XSD and a Material.a2a file.Unzip the Maps to a target location .
<b>Step 3:</b>
Place the Material.a2a file in the archives folder of the server which u want to mount and work upon. Here it is
D:\MDM\Server\archives\
<b>Step4:</b>
Upon placing the >a2a file which is the archived format of the standard business repository.Jst Mount the particular server and Right click on the server icon.Choose the option <u>Unarchive Repository</u> and and select the particular file Material.a2a from the drop down.
The repository will be available for working.
Award me with points if this blog proved to be a help.

Wow, that was indeed a quick reply i have ever got on SDN. Thanks for the excellent link jitesh. However, where will i get the deployable files that it selects in the Import GP/CAF contents step of the demo? those are the webdynpro components files. One is SCA and other is SDA. Where will i get them?
Kindly post the link to those files if u have them or else send it across.

  • SRM and MDM for material master in SRM contracts for multiple R/3

    Dear all,
    my question is:
We are implementing SRM 4.0 in classic scenario with multiple R/3 back-end and we want to set-up Global Outline Agreements in SRM in a multi-backend environment where the Material Master are not harmonized.
We heard that MDM and COntent Integraton can be a solution.
    Then detailled question is:
Can we have 2 material numbers (e.g. ABC and XYZ) in 2 different R/3 systems refering the same product.
Have the mapping done in MDM (Content Integrator?) to a third material number:123
Replicating the material master 123 to SRM from MDM(?)
Create global Outline Agreements in SRM for Material Master 123.
Distribute the GOA as Outline Agreement to R/3 system 1 with the translation to ABC and to R/3 system 2 with the translation XYZ, all of that during the distribution step (or another).
Have the call-offs quantities correct on 123 in SRM and BW?
IF yes, how is it working, do you have some documentation discribing the scenario and the config steps to do?
    Thanks in avance

    Hello RD,
    That's a good question.
You are on the right way. MDM is the tool for you.
    But..
Content Integrator (CI) was first developped for Shell, to address the need of cross-referencing of material/supplier/category IDs, for:
    - reporting purpose (actual Spend Analysis)
    - mapping purpose (send of XML PO)
CI was later "fusionned" into the new MDM (1.0) solution.
So now, you can not order CI without MDM (even if some SRM slides still present CI).
But mapping API where developped for all inboud/outbound interfaces in SRM, for materials only (good luck for you).
You will find everywhere this piece of code:
      Call ECI
        CALL FUNCTION 'BBP_PRODUCT_MAP'
          TABLES
            it_input          = lt_mapping_in
            et_output         = lt_mapping_out
          EXCEPTIONS
            logsys_not_found  = 1
            driver_not_found  = 2
            product_not_found = 3
            internal_error    = 4
            OTHERS            = 5.
So it is ok, you have the mapping call, but I don't know if all the rest of the process was really "finalized" (call of API mapping in CI, via XI). I personnaly never used it, but I assume it should work.
I my opinion your process is supported by SAP:
    - Extract materials from both R/3 and consolidate them as a single product in MDM.
    - Distribute this product into SRM.
    - Maintain contracts on those products.
    - Distribute them to R/3 (The ECI call is also used during contract distribution).
    - Call offs corrects in SRM and BW
For MDM documentation, look at netweaver area of service.sap.com.
For MDM/SRM integration, look at SRM 4.0 spend analysis:
    https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/~sapdownload/011000358700004424262004E/GlobalSpendOverview.ppt
For SRM contract distribution, call-offs, BW, look at SRM in details in service.sap.com/srm/SRM4.0:
    https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/~sapdownload/011000358700001966382004E/contracten.ppt

  • Importing of material master from SAP to MDM

    Hi all
we are working for a scenario where we need to import data from SAP R/3 to MDM using IDoc and XI.MDM already provides standard T codes for collective generation of IDocs for vendor and customer master( what i mean is single IDoc is generated for a selection of mastres) but no such option is there for material master.
This means in the READY folder in case of material we will have say 1000s of xml files in case we are importing 1000 records from R3.
What is the way out??It becomes difficult to import all files one by one. What are different options we have?
    regards-
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
    Go to the transaction MDM_CLNT_EXTR.
    Select Extraction Object:MATERIAL_EXTRACT
Give Target sytem ( XI Sytem)(This should create with SALE transactio, ALE IDOC Settings)
    Distribution Mode:I
Create a variant for this and save
Come to the same transacction again, select the saved variant.
    Press ENTER button
    Click 'Start Extraction ' button.
Then this program will send all the material from SAP R/3 system to the target system.

  • Creating MDM repository for Material Master Data

    Hello MDM Gurus,
I am new to SAP MDM. I want to create MDM repository for Material Master. What I unddertand is, I can create repository using Bussiness Content shiped with MDM software. I will copy *.a2a file to archive folder of MDM server and unarchive repository. I have following question for you.
    1. HOw do I use export maps and import maps which I found in Busines contenst\Material folder?
    2. How do I use MDM Lookup Tables which is xml document in Busines contenst\Material folder?
    3. Why is the use of MDMGX_55520_Material.txt file which I found in Busines contenst\Material folder?
    4. What is the use of *.xsd files and how can I use them?
    Thanks,
    Bhupesh

    Hi Bhupesh
    1. HOw do I use export maps and import maps which I found in Busines contenst\Material folder?
save all the map files on your loacl machine. open import manager and select file-> Import, browse to the .map file and save the map with a meaningful name. now next time connect to the source file you want to import and OPEN the map saved.
    2. How do I use MDM Lookup Tables which is xml document in Busines contenst\Material folder?
Businees content contains the standard  ECC refernce tables like countries, regions etc which can be refreshed from ECC. for this you have to configure MDMGX, defining all the ports in MDM and in ECC the tables from which data has to be refreshed. refer to below threads for details.
    Extract Data usnig MDMGX
How to Export Materials from ERP to MDM 7.1 via MDMGX?
    3. Why is the use of MDMGX_55520_Material.txt file which I found in Busines contenst\Material folder?
This helps us in configuring the table extraction from ECC, refer to thread-> Extract Data usnig MDMGX
    4. What is the use of *.xsd files and how can I use them?
Schema files are used for syndicating the records from MDM to source system. Say we want to syndicate material master from MDM to ECC and in ECC they will be posted via MATMAS05 IDoc. these schemas are the structure of IDoc which will contain the values which will be syndicated from MDM.
Let me know if you know some more details.

  • Usage of MDM's material master relevant XI Content and Business Content

    Dear all,
In MDM's material-relevant XI content, there's a message interface "MDMMatmasIn". But in the demo system this interface is not used to write material master data to file. The IDoc type MATMAS.MATMAS05 is used instead. No mapping is used. May I ask why?
I tried the 00_MATMAS05_R3.map file and can import file in the format of MATMAS.MATMAS05. But some value mappings are not done and have to be added manually. Do I miss precedent steps?
In MDM Business content, there're lots of import map files like 00_MATMAS05_R3.map and 03b_Units_SAP_R3.map. During the data consolidation procedure, should we just use one map to import the IDoc-XML file? Shouldn't we first use other map file to fill the lookup tables? If not, what are those map files used for? Is there any document about the usage of those map files?
Very sorry for asking so many questions. I'm very new in this area and desperately need help...
    Best Regards
    Jerome

    Hi Christiane,
Thanks for the document. But I didn't find how  to import the customization data into the lookup tables. For example, in the MDM standard business content, the "Material" repository contains a lookup table "Material Type". It doesn't contain the values like "ROH" and "HAWA". How can we fill such tables?
And the standard map "00_MATMAS05_R3" doesn't automatically add such values into lookup table by value mapping. When I tried to import a material master, I had to manually modify this map. Is there any solution to this problem?

  • Posting material master into MDM

    Guys ,
If I need to get the material master data from an R3 system into the standard material repository in MDM , what do you think is the best strategy or what is the common strategy which is follwed in this scenario . How do we export the data from R3 and what is the format MDM would be expecting to load the data .
    Would appreciate some help !
    Regards
    Deepak Singh

    Hey Vijay/Guys ,
I have the data from an R3 system as XML files . I am importing the same manually through import manager . I open the import manager and choose the type as XML and point it to the XML file . When the import manager get's opened I can see the following tables
    - ARTMAS03
    - E1BPE1MEANRT
    - E1BPE1MVKERT
    - E1BPE1MVKERTX
    - EDI_DS40
Now I understand that there are standard import maps available in the business content to import data from an R3 system . I see the import maps and I can see the following maps
    - 00_MATMAS03_R3
    - 00_MATMAS04_R3
    - 00_MATMAS05_R3
    - seperate import maps for all the lookup tables
Now I am assumimng that there has to be a standard which is followed here and the import would be as simple as selecting a map provided for the material repository , opening it in import manager which would do the mapping and then if required I would do the value mapping , finally importing it into the repository .
I imported the map 00_MATMAS03_R3 and then when I tried to open the map , I get a message " the map cannot be loaded because table E1MARAM is not the source "
Now please let me know where do I deviate from what usually happens in such a scenario. What would usually one do to import data manually ?

  • Shopping cart created for a MDM material uploaded from MARA

    Hello,
I need to create an interfase from ECC6 material master (MARA) to MDM1.0
I can not test the creation of a shopping cart for a catalogue material at the moment.
    My question is.
Someone know can confirm me if is possible
. to upload to MDM the "MARA" table
. and the SRM shopping cart will be created for a catalogue material (uploaded from MARA, ECC6.0.
AND the purchase requisition created in the back-end (ECC6) will take the MARA material number not a free text.
I think that this is possible, but what do I have to define in MDM? How MDM will reconize the material number to transfer that information from the shopping cart to the purchase requisition?
    Thank for your help.

  • Upload Material Master to non SAP Catalog

    Hi Guys,
we are trying to create a process to upload Material Master and/or Purchasing Info Recordes data directly from the backend into an non-SAP catalog. So far I only know about report BBP_CCM_CATALOG_TRANSFER, that uploads replicated material master from SRM into CCM or MDM Catalog.
Are there reports available in the backend  (ECC6 EhP3) or in SRM 700 that could extract the data from Material Master and Purchasing Info Records into a format (XML;CSV,..) that could be used to upload these data into a catalog manually or via PI.
    Any hints are welcome!
    Thx
    Dieter

    Hi Dieter,
Yes you can run MECCM in your ECC system to transfer PIR and contracts as XML files.

  • Global Attributes to be considered for Material Master

    Hello Experts,
I am working on Material Consolidation in MDM where in I have to consolidate the Material master from three different SAP systems in SAP MDM then harmonize the data back to each of these ECC systems. Centralization using portal will follow once this is done.
All the mentioned ECC systems are three entirely different business working independently
To define the enterprise data model there are two questions for which I am looking for answers based on Best practises standpoint and with your experiences in MDM projects
Question 1: Is it a good practice to maintain Plant, Sales org, Purchase org and Classification data and other Local data in SAP MDM  Material repository for all the three ECCsystems. I understand this would unnecessarily load the repositoryu. But still looking for your experiences to explore whether there is any business benefit to do this.
Question 2: Let's assume that we maintain only the Global attributes in SAP MDM for material repository then in that case , how do we define the material at global level. From my standpoint Material Global repository should have following fields which would uniquely define the material
(Material Description, Base unit of Measure, Material Type, Industry Sector, Alternative Unit of Measure, Material Group)
Is it the right approach or should I consider some other attributes as well?
Moreover If I define these as Global Attributes then these definitions will have to imposed on the all the three ECC systems which would be a major change as all of the three have different definitions for the abovementioned attributes.
Request your valuable inputs on what should feasible and practical best approach.
    Best Regards
    Manoj

    Hi Manoj,
This is something which comes to every consultants mind
See this is something very abstract and answer can vary from case to case depending on many parameters like :
    1.Client/Businessrequirement.
    2.Scenario requirement.(CMDM,Consolidation etc)
    3.System Landscape.
    4.Performance.
    5.Product capability.
    And many more.
In my experience I have had a material scenario with only one ERP system having and only one company code.Clients requirement was to have most of the plant related data into MDM as it was a CMDM scenario. So I did take most of the views into MDM system including Location Data,Valuation data,Quality data,Classification data and Sales Data.It worked well there.
However I was a part of another project where we had multiple ERP systems in landscape. It had multiple company codes and client wanted to keep only global data in MDM,after going into ERP system plant relevant data was populated.
So it totally depends and one only has to take a informed decision,I would suggest you prepare a attribute analysis matrix of fields global in nature and then after understanding the relation between fields take a call on data model.
