  • MDM Portal configurations.

    Hi,
    Very recently we have integrated MDM 5.5 SP4 with our portal server EP6 WAS 6.40 SP16, i also have created the MDM system to connect to MDM repository. But i am totally unaware what could be the next thing? I assigned the std. roles to one user id but i am getting the error. Can anyone please give me or provide any link to document that discribes how we can create applications, how we can use MDM APIs?
    Also in my NWDS, i am unable to locate the MDM Perspective. How can i get rid of all these issues?
    Please help as i am a newbie for MDM.
    Regards,
    Ameya

    Hi,
    Steps for using standard MDM iViews:
    1. Deploy the MDM SCAs on your portal
    2. Restart the Portal Server
    3. Create the MDM System and System Alias
    4. Assign the System Alias to the user and complete the user mapping
    5. Check the connection of the system with the repository
    After the above steps you will be able to use the standard MDM iViews available like Item Details, ResultSet etc.
    JAVA APIs
    Java APIs are basically used when you want some customization i.e. the functionality required that standard iViews cannot provide and there is no MDM Perspective in NWDS you can either use WebDynpro or Java Perspective and you have to use the APIs available for various operations like Connection with the repository,Session establishment,Workflows etc.
    Please refer the Java Doc shipped with the MDM Installation for more information about the classes and methods available for MDM operations.
    Hope you will get some idea.

    Winshuttle does not provide any connectors specifically for NetWeaver MDM. Connectivity can be achieved from Winshuttle forms and workflow through generic web service plugins.

    Hi Amrita,
    As of now there is no certification in associate level. It is available in professional level only.
    1) You should have 5 yrs of experience in your module which you r looking for.(Professional level).
    2)You can apply for any version irrespective if you hv worked in same version at least 1 project.
    3) I think in India Bangalore location is available.
    4)You can go through Teched from ur company side but only for professional certification but for the associate level you go individually.
    5)Teched will be benefited in monetary prospect.
    6) Total 80 questions will be there and I think duration is 1 hr and all are multiple type question and there is no negative marking.

  • Using the Open Catalog Interface (OCI) between SAP-ECC 6.0 and SAP-MDM

    Hello ASUG Community.
    I'm working on an SAP-MDM project where we will configure the OCI interface between SAP-ECC 6.0 and SAP-MDM.  The business requirement will be to punch out to SAP-MDM's catalog from SAP-ECC for expensed items (e.g., no material master record exists in SAP-ECC).
    The data that will be returned to SAP-ECC will be purchase price info, material group, short text, & our global SAP-MDM item number.
    The question I've been trying to design around is "where to store the SAP-MDM item number"?
    I've looked into creating a custom filed on EKPO but now feel that a configured text field will be the best solution from an SAP-ECC point of view (less effort on the SAP-ECC side from a development perspective, no need to regenerate the EKPO table, etc.).
    The question I'd like to pose to ASUG is.... Does anyone have experience or an opinion to offer using this functionality?  It seems that I will have to code in a user exit or BAdi to insure that the SAP-MDM item numbers are returned to the appropriate text field on my POu2019s.  Or can this be done using the standard OCI functionality?
    I found OSS note 1347656 which references BADI "ME_CATALOG_INTERFACE" but I'm not sure if this right path to go down or if this would be the correct place to code non-conforming OCI mapping requiremetns.
    Any insight would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.  Sincerely,
    Rich Wortmann

    I would suggest you create a new field for this as you may require thois going forward for reporting as well. Text fields are difficult to report.
    Sorry not sure about the BADI to use.

  • MDM Exception: Key mapping value must be unique. You cannot overwrite key

    "ServerException: Key mapping value must be unique. You cannot overwrite key mapping values."
    I received such exception when code tried to manipulate Key Mappings of the record.
    error was not happen on mdm 5.5 but on 7.1 it sometimes appears.
    What is probable reason of this?
    How to resolve this ?
    Code is approximate so:
                                         String[] keys = keyMapping.getKeys();
                        if (recordKeyMapping.containsKeyMapping(remoteSystem)) {
                    recordKeyMapping.replace(remoteSystem, keys);

    //where methods are:
         public void replace(RemoteSystem remoteSystem, String[] keys) {
              KeyMapping keyMapping = getKeyMapping(remoteSystem);
              if (keyMapping == null) throw new IllegalArgumentException("Can't update keys: key mapping for the system '" + remoteSystem + "' is not found");
              else {
                   keyMapping.setKeys(keys);
         public void addKeyMapping(KeyMapping keyMapping) {
              RemoteSystem remoteSystem = keyMapping.getRemoteSystem();
              for(int i = 0; i < keyMapping.size(); i++) {

    Hello -
    I am not sure on that coding part. but is it like are you trying to retrive Key Mapping from Memory accelerator. Here this information always needs to be read from Database.
    I am sure you also maintained  the required attribute for key mapping as in Property in Console should be set as "Yes" and other relevant things properly .

  • How to retrieve User Description for a particular MDM User from Console ?

    In my Application i  have to retrieve User Descripton(a field) for the MDM Users  from Console. I am using MDM Java Api 1(MDM4j) in my application. Is there any way i can retrieve MDM User Description from Console without using MDM Admin API?

    Hi Namrata,
    Sorry, I have a different perspective from you (I don't work with the Java API). So, you can ignore what I said about the protocols. That's lower-level than what you would care about.
    The correct thing to do is to use the Admin API to get the users, as you are doing. If you have to log in twice, it might be because you're using the old Java API.
    Please verify that you're using these packages:
    mdm-core.jar, mdm-common.jar, mdm-protocol.jar, mdm-data.jar, mdm-admin.jar
    versus the old API, which was called mdm4.jar.
    Thanks,

    Hi Jay,
    As you seem to be clear with alternatives, i would be sharing about Masterdata management (i.e. MDM) from my perspective.
    In general,benefits of keeping Master data in 1 place is
    Conformance/Auditing
    Single view of customer
    Global data synchronization efforts
    Accurate reporting
    Consolidation after mergers and acquisitions
    Reduced effort to consolidate information
    Reduced cleansing/mapping of information

    Hi,
    After checking in the activity make a habit of activate the same activity.
    Ask the other person to activate his activity.
    After the activation of all previous activities. sync the dc it should effect the changes to dc in your nwds.
    If the above procedure doesnot work then delete the dc from workspace and nwds. goto dc perspective->sync your project in inactive dc's>create project from inactive dc's, this will create the dc's in your nwds will the current changes in edit mode.

  • Slow performance of Day 1 Sync batches in CC&B and MDM

    Im running a data conversion team on a project that is integrating CC&B 2.3.1 (currently running SP3 and Framework13) and MDM 2.0 (currently running SP4)
    We are using the Day 1 Sync batches to replicate data mastered in CC&B for Service Points, Contacts and Service Agreements/Usage Subscriptions into MDM.
    While running the Initial Sync batches for Service Point, Contact and SA/US to MDM, the time taken taken is very long. We have tried to run the batches in both single and multiple threads ranging upto 8 threads but the performance was not improved with more threads.
    While running the Initial SYnc Service Point batch from CC&B, with 8 threads and 48,060 records it took 11 hours and 41 minutes which is equivalent to just over 1 record processed per second. The overall batch run time in MDM was close to 7 hours.
    While running the Initial Sync bactches for SA/US in MDM, it took a total of 31 hours to process close to 60,000 records.
    This is a big concern from a Migration perspective as the volumes of data would be much more than 48,000 records. And considering 48,000 records took around 12 hours, we're concerned regarding the overall timings for all the Sync batches.
    Below are the timings taken to execute the various batches for Initial Sync in MDM:
    Service Point Sync (48,060 records)
    F1-SYSRQ (Sync Request Sampling Monitor Batch): 2 hrs 30 minutes
    F1-SAKRQ (Sync Request- Allocate keys monitor): 43 minutes
    D1-SIKSP (Initial Sync Request- Resolve keys SP): 1 hr 47 minutes
    D1-SILSP (Initial Sync Request- Load Data SP): 2 hours 12 minutes
    Usage Subscription Sync for 60,000 records:
    F1-SYSRQ (Sync Request Sampling Monitor Batch): 4 hrs 34 minutes
    D1-SIIER (Initial Sync Request Error): 7 hrs 18 minutes
    F1-SAKRQ (Sync Request- Allocate keys monitor): 46 minutes
    D2-SIKUS (Initial Sync Request- Resolve keys US): 18 hrs
    D2-SILUS (Initial Sync Request- Load Data US): 1 hr 28 minutes
    Please note that we're running on Service Pack 4 for MDM.
    Technical Specification of the environment that these batches are running on:
    CC&B:
    Online/Batch Server (Number of Servers * RAM * CPU) 2 * 4GB * 2CPU
    OS AIX 6.1 TL7
    JDK JDK v5.0 SR10 64-bit
    Weblogic Version 10.0 MP2
    Batch threads <= 8
    JVM Count 2
    MDM:
    Online/Batch Server (Number of Servers * RAM * CPU) 2 *4GB * 2CPU
    OS AIX 6.1 TL7
    JDK JDK v6.0 SR8 64-bit
    Weblogic Version 10.3.3
    Batch threads <= 8
    JVM Count 2
    Has anyone seen issues with performance of these batches previously? When running the number of records processed by CC&B and received by MDM are in alignment so there is no issue in teh Fusion Middleware. It just seems that the processing speed of CC&B and MDM is poor.

    Hi Amaresh - thanks for your response.
    We are running batch online in our conversaion test environment. For the final Prodcution environmnet we'll be using third party software - CTRL-M.
    We seem to be getting some additional speed now by running the batch with multiple threads but I'm still not convinced that this is going to be enough.

  • Architeture influence MDM Data Modeling??

    Hi,
    I understand If I have MDM SP05  then I can utilize some good functionalities of EP, Java Webdynpro or SAP NW CE, Webservices and BPM. and If same applications I integrate with MDM SP03 then I will loose this functionalities. Will this have any impact / influence on my Data Model designing decisions. What will be the change?
    Cheers,
    Rajesh

    Hi Rajesh,
    I don't think you have to think from that perspective. When you say Data Modelling - it is related to repository structure i.e. fields and tables.
    Scenario 1 - You don't have any information about upcoming version
    In this case since you have no idea what new version would consists of hence there is no point in thinking about data modelling. You can go ahead with the most optimized model based on your current requirements
    Scenario 2 - You have some idea about the new features of the new version
    Still I don't think you need to consider data modelling because new features might be in the form of new java classes or new iViews or may be introduction of new data type, etc. In all cases you cannot change your current data model.
    It's always better to have POC and Live on same version so that things can be reused.
    I have just shared my views and didn't provide any solution
    Regards,
    Jitesh

  • MDM and BPM

    Dear All
    We have a scenario where BPM is used for managing the workflow. In one of the approval steps the workflow goes to Data steward who only has access to Data manager. He is notified for a task and he can perform his actions only from data manager. Is this possible for the BPM workflow to proceed to next step based upon his action in Data Manager?
    Thanks-ravi

    In general my recommendation would be no.  As far as I know, actions performed with the MDM GUI tools only raise a couple of events and those are primarily syndication related.  I don't think that you can raise an event that alerts the BPM (or some other service) that a record has changed.  Therefore you would have to have a custom service or Java program (as was mentioned above) which would have some logic by which it checks the repository.  I don't think this is a good idea from a design perspective, but it is technically possible.
    Edit:  I thought about it again, and it may be possible to use the enrichment controller to raise an event, but I've never done it before so I'm not quite sure how that would be done.

  • Error in MDM Console - 5.5.32.65

    I get the following error messager EVERYTIME I duplicate a repository.  The duplication seems to work, but once I get this message the MDM Console fails.  Anyone have an idea about why?
    'The instruction at"0x0060e921" referenced memory at "0x000bfff4". The memory could not be "read".'
    Mike Jakeway

    Hi Mike Jakeway,
    as I can see from product release perspective:
    The version of your console, as mentioned in the title of the message, is 5.5.32.65. This version was shipped with SAP MDM 5.5 SP04 (no patch). Assuming the MDM Server has the same version 5.5.32.65, I would suggest:
    1. upgrade your MDM Server and Console to MDM 5.5 SP04 patch1 which is 5.5.33.13.
    2. if the error still happens, then I would suggest to create an internal CSN bug report, or OSS message.
    Note: If you have an SP04 customer, as I am aware it is okay to ask for an upgrade to patch1 since SP04 is still in monitored shipment.
    Other: if you have access to OSS, then it would still make sense to seach the messages using e.g. the keyword "referenced memory at" in component MDM* .
    Thank you.
    Regards.
    Laszlo.
