Please enlighten me with the best practices available in this stream.
Some common and important things that i should be careful about while implementing MDM on EP.
I have read most of the documents and posts available on SDN.

  • Portal consultant

    Hi,
I have implemented ESS & MSS in EP6.0. I have modified some ESS services in R/3 SAP4.7 and created IACs in Portal and it is working fine. For MSS services i implemented the std services and hence no customization needed.I know BSP programming and created some BSP iviews too for ESS and MSS.
I know how to work in <b> PCD </b>(Content Mgt & User managment).I never worked with other Portal tools like <b> NWDS,Visual composer etc.. </b>.Is this knowledge very much expected for a Portal developer? From the weblogs i come to know Java knowledge is must for EP implementation. But still i am in confusion.
Please suggest me  whther its mandatory so that i can tell myself as a Portal consultant.

  • Create/Edit relationship tables in MDM Portal

    Hello,
When we set the Relationships tab and all fields on the tab with 'Updatable' = true in the MDM Portal, the only option is to Delete a relationship in the Portal.  A user cannot create a new relationship in the Portal.
We are on version 7.0 in portal.
Is this a limitation in this version and does anyone know if this is corrected in a later new release?
    thanks

Hmmmm.. as far as I remember the answer is no.
The way I do it is to drop an empty text box over the file name in the table and make this a hyperlink to the file.
Some people report that this doesn't work and use a shape with almost zero opacity. I think they have this problem when using internal rather than external links. If you are linking to files in a download folder on your server you will be using external links and the text box is a lot quicker to do.
The links on this page are done in this fashion....

  • Objective of a Portal Consultant

    Hi Friends,
Please excuse me as iam posting a non-technical question here.
I am a Programmer analyst working in ABAP. For better prospects and out of curiosity i have chosen Portal Development to explore. As far as i have explored it seems to be a mere web-page designing job. Is it so?. What else we gotta do as a portal developer?. I want to tell my friends and colleagues that iam not doing a simple job here.
       Please clarify my doubts.
    Regards,
    Tamilarasan.

I can assure you that being a portal consultant is not merely a web developer. To be a really good developer in the portal space you will need to know
    1) Java
    2) How the portal hangs together
    3) Portal APIs and how to use them
    4) Performance enhancing tricks
    5) Backend systems (potentially), R3, Documentum, BW, CRM
    6) Business Packages, how to install and configure them
This is to name but a few. The more you know the better.
I hope this alleviates some of your concerns

  • MDM Portal configurations.

    Hi,
Very recently we have integrated MDM 5.5 SP4 with our portal server EP6 WAS 6.40 SP16, i also have created the MDM system to connect to MDM repository. But i am totally unaware what could be the next thing? I assigned the std. roles to one user id but i am getting the error. Can anyone please give me or provide any link to document that discribes how we can create applications, how we can use MDM APIs?
Also in my NWDS, i am unable to locate the MDM Perspective. How can i get rid of all these issues?
Please help as i am a newbie for MDM.
    Regards,
    Ameya

    Hi,
Steps for using standard MDM iViews:
    1. Deploy the MDM SCAs on your portal
    2. Restart the Portal Server
    3. Create the MDM System and System Alias
    4. Assign the System Alias to the user and complete the user mapping
    5. Check the connection of the system with the repository
After the above steps you will be able to use the standard MDM iViews available like Item Details, ResultSet etc.
    JAVA APIs
Java APIs are basically used when you want some customization i.e. the functionality required that standard iViews cannot provide and there is no MDM Perspective in NWDS you can either use WebDynpro or Java Perspective and you have to use the APIs available for various operations like Connection with the repository,Session establishment,Workflows etc.
Please refer the Java Doc shipped with the MDM Installation for more information about the classes and methods available for MDM operations.
Hope you will get some idea.

    Jitesh Talreja

  • MDM Portal CUA

    Hello Experts:
We have a scenario as below.
    1) Enterprise portal witn windows NTML and using CUA for user base.
    2) MDM 5.5 SP4 need to be integrated.
    3) The R/3 is 620
    1) How can we authenticate the portal/cua user in MDM
    2) How can we create users in MDM automatically while creating in CUA.
    Please help.
Please let me know for any more details, I can send.

As far as I know this is not possible, because CUA requires the use of RFC destinations and logical systems and such, the standard ALE configuration for SAP systems.  Unfortunately since MDM was purchased, and has not been really built into the rest of the netweaver suite, it does not have ALE.  I'm hopeful that in the next life cycle or so of MDM we may see more of a shift towards the traditional architecture of SAP.
Now, don't quote me on this, as I'm not positive.  This is just what I believe.

  • Portal development requirements and basics??

    helo everyone,
I am student and I read a article regarding portal development and I want to start learning this new technology. My Basic questions are
1)What are the technical requirements to develop portals with PDK?
2)Is that a compulsion that we need Oracle 9iAS installed if we have to develop portals?
3)And in which technologies(like JSP,EJB etc) do we required to have good knowledge before developing web portals?
4)Can anyone tell me the basic and good way to start learning this new technology
I kindly request you to answer my questions,,PLEASE:
    with regards,
    [email protected]

You can build your portlets using J2EE (JSPs, servlets, HTML, Java classes) or PL/SQL.
If you're building Web providers (J2EE portlets), you don't need a portal installation, you can register them on Oracle9iAS Portal Studio.
To build portal pages, yes, you'll need to have a portal installation.
You find more information on portlet building options on Oracle9iAS Portal Studio.

  • OBE Portal lessons require HR Schema

I am going through the OBE Portal (9.0.4) lessons, and several of them require a sample HR schema. How is this installed? I don't see an reference to installing this as a pre-req for the lessons.

The HR Schema is a demo schema available with OracleAS Portal. You can see the HR schema in your Database Objects in Portal Navigator,if you have opted to install the demo schemas while installing OracleAS Portal.
Please refer to this document (http://web51-01.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_01/portal.1012/b14134/pdg_portletbuilder.htm#BABIEDAG)
on how to create a SCHEMA in OracleAS Portal.
Create a Schema using the Database Objects tab in the Portal Navigator.
Enter the name of the SCHEMA as HR. Provide a password and confirm it.
The default tablespace should be PORTAL and the Temporary TableSpace should be Temp.
Add the PORTAL.WWPRO_API_INVALIDATION object in the Grants tab in addition to the existing privileges.
Now, you can use this schema to create your Database Provider.

    Hi Sabari,
MDM at the moment does not support SSO based on any standard mechanism. The only option is using the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/69/3482ee0d70492fa63ffe519f5758f5/frameset.htm">User Mapping</a> facilities of the portal.

this is a known limitiation and the MDM people are working on it.

  • Scripting Print Dialog and Epson Print Dialog - Consultant Required

I have a project I would like to pay a Scripting  Consultant to develop.
The script should run on Photoshop CS 3 , Mac OS Leopard 10.5.6,
I would like the script to be preferrably in Applescript to link with the Mac OS, but it can be Javascript
    Functionality
    1. The script should  script the settings within the Photoshop print dialog box such as the colour profile
    and colour management options
    2. I would also like the script to control the Epson Print Settings in the Epson print dialog
boxes such as the Page Size/Set Up and Printer settings such as paper type=  Epson Premium Glossy.
    3. Finally I would like  the script to be triggered via a button/palette which floats in Photoshop, so immediately we want to print
a design to a particular Epson printer (we have 4 different Epson printers ) we can click that button and it will
send the print to that printer with the correct profile, media settings, page set up etc
    Notes
I have been told that "Configurator" made be the best application to create these printer buttons.
I have also been told that it may be possible to script the Epson Dialog using information from the Script Listener
As you can tell I am not a scripter but have a clear idea of what is required and am happy to pay for the experitise required here.
If you want to email directly please do so -
    [email protected]
    Thanks very much
    Josh

I have been told that "Configurator" made be the best application to create these printer buttons.
    But Configurator is for CS4.
I’m not sure the print-dialog can be Scripted the way You want it; at the company where I work we use a Server-Hotfolder-setup which makes such things easier, as one can simply save separated copies into the respective Folders.
