MDM - Product Repository
From my understanding, the basic MDM package contains one repository for 'Product'. Has anyone thought about creating two repositories for product data - one for purchased materials and another one for produced materials? Would SAP support this type of repository structure? Can anyone think of any pitfalls with having two repositories?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Suzanne,
SAP MDM comes with 5 standard repositories, which are similar/replica to R/3 structure.
1. Material
2. Vendor
3. Employee
4. Customer
5. Article.
The Product repository you are talking about, when you create a new Repository from MDM Console, which is a skelton to maintain Product catalog, but you can always customize/enhance by adding tables and fields according to u r needs.
In MDM you can maintain any kind of master data. It does not have any limitations.
In your case, Is "Purchased materials" and "Produced materials" are 2 different set of master data objects or does both have any commonality except few fileds?
As you might be knowing as of MDM SP3 there is no standard cross repository communication thru the existing tools. The only way you can communicate across the repositories using the API (Java/.Net).
I would suggest go thru some of the business scenarios available in SAP Service market place before you start.
Thanks and Regards

Difference between Material Repository and Product Repository
Hi Guys,
Can you please explain the difference between the Product Repository and Material Repository.
Thanks,
Sandy.Hello,
The MDM Products repository is structured to maintain the "sell- side" of the organization, meaning these are the products that the organization sells.
The MDM Material repository, however, is structured to maintain the "buy- side" of the organization, meaning these are the raw materials that the organization buys in order to produce/ manufacture its products.
These differences are also seen in the schema -the data elements that are maintained for each repository.

SAP MDM-GDS repository structure
Hi,
Does anybody have any input or knowledge of SAP's direction regarding repository structures for MDM and GDS now that they've begun integrating the functions into the MDM solution the offer?
At present, whilst the GDS Console is basically just accessing data in an MDM repository, it can't be your core MDM product data repository, but rather it has to be a separate one, set up specifically for GDS and nothing else, and thus it needs to be populated separately. I am wondering if this is a long term vision, or just a result of the way the package has been developed and that further integration will be forthcoming.
Any ideas?
SteveHello lis716
I'm not recomend working with SAP MDM database directly moreover modify some data at Database level because database structure is close information. (i had expiriens to mass upload users and their roles directly in MDM database, after that operation repository hasn't been started - repair returned a lot of errors and i was very happy when repository has been started)
You can lost important data because database structure may be modify in any time.
SAP MDM provide API for different development platforms as is .NET, ABAP, JAVA, COM.
My suggestion you should use API in your application for connect to data.
Additional information about API you can find here:

MDM Product History cMDM A2I MDM
I've searched this forum and browsed can someone describe the product history (SAP MDM) and evolution but that answer doesn't go deep enough.
Back about 9 years ago SAP was trying to develop an MDM product they called cMDM (collaborative Master Data Mgmt).
I'm aware of their 2004 acquisition of A2I and how they based their new MDM Product on that acquisition.
I understand that the Product portion of SAP MDM is based on the A2i PIM acquisition. My question is, is the Customer and Vendor SAP MDM solution also based on A2i, or is it based on the earlier SAP cMDM development work?
I realize this is kind of like product archeaology, but I have a client that wants to do MDM for Cust and Vendor but won't touch the A2i solution.
Thanks,
JoeHello Joe
Today the "A2i solution" is the only MDM solid solution that SAP provides, there are many customers using Vendor and Customer scenarios using the SAP MDM solution.
Which customer are you talking about ? Why he doesn't want to use the A2i solution ?
Thanks

iTunes shows I have an encrypted backup under preferences. It's got the pad lock. When I click restore the encrypted backup is not an option. I've been test MDM products and may have caused this. How do I restore the encrypted backup.
I just came here today to ask the same question.
I have an iPod Gen2 with version 4.2.1 iOS, and iTunes 11.0.2.26
My iPod Touch was running sluggish so I backed up and selected the "Encrypt local backup" to "back up account passwords used on my iPod".
I selected a password for this backup and restored my iPod Touch.
When I went to restore from backup, that encrypted backup is not available on the drop down list.
However, if I go to the top of ITunes and click "Edit", "Preferences" "Device", it shows the back up with the pad lock on it.
I thought I was being smart backing up with encryption to back up account passwords, but now I have lost everything.
So many people have the issue where it asks for a password when they never told iTunes to do an encrypted backup and here we are with an encrypted backup, and we know the password, but we don't get the option to restore from it. -
SRM and MDM Material repository
Hello!
We'll implement MDM as a material repository which will consolidate materials info from different backend systems (SAP and non-SAP). We will also implement SRM 6.0, which will receive data about materials, product categories, etc. from MDM.
Has anyone worked with a similar landscape?

Can not Upload PDF in MDM data repository
Hi, expert,
when I upload the PDF in MDM data manager, the system error log is :
Unable to open Adobe Acrobat.
See your administrator about installing Adobe Acrobat.
But, when I upload the image, the status is success..
I do not know if it is Adobe Acrobat installing problem or I miss some configuration or it can not upload the PDF into MDM repository..
Your help would be really appreciated.
thanks & Best Regards,Hi,
Can you open the PDF without any error? Is Adobe Acrobat installed on the server where the repository is loaded?

MDM - Import Repository schema
Hi all,
Have any one tried "Import Repository Schema" operation in MDM Console ?
I want know the purpose and how this works.
Please provide me the materails if you have any.
Thanks in advance.Hi ArunParbhu,
We perform "Import Repository schema" in order to import i.e. define schema of the repository. We can import repository schema using an MDM schema file. For this operation ,the repository must be unloaded."Import repository schema" operation will create new tables and fields in the repository.
U can get more details about how to import repository schema from console reference guide available at service market place. It is very well explained after page 210 onwards.
Hope it will help u.
Thanks,

Hi Dear friends,
Please help, im just new in MDM, can anybody give me a follow on guide to set up Customer repository on MDM 7.1
Thanks in advanceArchie -
first of all it depends on your landscape requirment as in you are implementing on SAP-NON SAP systems. them what kind of scenario you are developing. it may be ECC-PI-MDM etc..
from ECC persuance you can follow note number 1412742 (SMP Login Required)
you can download the standered business contents for Customer master data from service market place and can customize it according to your requirment. these contents contain the standered data model
link is https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/installmdm71/
if from Non SAP system you are getting the data you can design repository from scratch.
you can also see below links for more insights
