MDM Servers

Hi,
We are in the process of going for SAP SRM Implementation, before that we need to have MDM servers for our SRM Implementation.
We are going to have four system landscape for our Sandbox,DEV,QA and Prod.,
Do we need to have seperate MDM servers or we can manage with PROD and Non PROD MDM servers.
We are new to SRM implementation.
Please let us know
Sathish

We've evaluated a bunch we've looked at and found Airwatch to be most compatible in our environment.  It looks like we will be implementing it shortly.  Here is a site that runs a comparison which you may find helpful.  I'm not sure the server platform makes a lot of difference unless you are considering the Lion Server solution.

  • Registering MDM servers in SLD - Is it required?

    Hello mates,
    I was going thru this doc MDM 5.5 SP04 - <a href="https://websmp208.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700006117152006E">Register MDM Servers in the SLD</a>.
My questions..what is the advanatage of registering MDM servers in SLD? Isn't it enough if we create Technical & Business Systems for MDM in SLD? Do we need to link the Tech/Biz system to the registered MDM servers in SLD? Can these servers be monitored or sth like that?
    I appreciate your inputs.
    thx in adv
    praveen

I do not need to add the MDM servers..TS & BS did the job.

  • Installing all MDM servers on same physical host/server

    Dear All
For production MDM environment we have installed all mdm servers- MDIS, MDSS, MDS and MDLS on the same physical server.
Will this have any impact on the performance. We are using MDM 7.1 and on HP Unix.
Another question is- If we have multiple repositories Vs single repository with multiple main tables( Vendor, Customer and Materials) why the choice should have performance impacts on the server level.
    Thanks-Ravi

    Ravi,
I don't mean to muddy the waters here, but performance tuning and system sizing is a slightly more complex exercise than simply determining how many records your repository will contain and how many fields it will have.  There are many, many considerations that need to be taken into account.
For example. the MDM server's performance can be dramatically improved or worsened depending on things like sort indices, accelerator files, data types and fill rates, validation logic, remote key generation, number of users, number of Java connections, web service connections, etc.  The list goes on and on, and that's not even taking into consideration the hardware (multi-processor, RAM, the physical disk configuration, etc.)
With regards to the Import Server and Syndication Server you have to take into account things like map complexity: are you doing free-form searching to filter records in maps?  Are your maps designed for main tables, qualified lookup tables, or reference data?  How often do imports / syndications occur?  What keys are you matching on when importing?  Do you plan on importing by chunks?  What is the import volume, etc?
Once again, I don't want to scare you, but I also wanted to bring up a few topics for you to think about.  There is a reason why SAP and other vendors charge a fee for doing system sizing.
These are just a few small examples, but the list goes on and on.  I hope this helps to get you thinking in the right direction when designing your architecture and system landscape.  Good luck!

  • Multiple MDM Servers on Single Database ?

    Hi MDM Experts,
Please shed some light on the following questions:
Is it possible to have two or more MDM Servers use the same database server ?
If so then what are the kind of conflicts expected ?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Uday,
Is it possible to have two or more MDM Servers use the same database server ?
Yes, you can use the two and more MDM Servers for the Same DataBase Server
If so then what are the kind of conflicts expected ?

  • Installing 2 MDM Servers on 1 AIX system

    Hi, Everyone.
We installed second MDM Server on AIX system, where we have MDM server for developers. It's installed with the different user. But, when I'm trying to do "mds start", there is error message in nohup.out :
bind() failed in ServerListeningSocket::Create() with errno 00000000 :
    Error 0\"
Initialization failed, error code = 0x83000000
What can it be? First MDM Server is working correctly.
    Please help.
    Thank you

    Hello Ivan
The error is generated when the second MDS can't attach to a port it needs to listen to.
As of release 5.5, MDM servers use static ports for most communications. Because of that, multiple MDSs cannot be run concurrently on one host. I believe the manuals mention this restriction.
If you create virtual hosts with port forwarding, you can run one MDS per virtual host.
    Hope this helps,
    Simon

  • Researching MDM Servers

A newbie question here.  I am beginning to research MDM servers to manage both iPhones and iPads.  It is looking like I will have to manage at least 100 deveices, and this number will most likely grow over time to potentially double within 18 months.  What are the key feature/functions that I should be looking for and in your oppinion, how do these rate (1-10) to each other as a matter of solution importance.
The sever platform has yet to be decided, based off of the solutions presented.  So either Xserver/10.7.4, or Win 2008 R2 will be considered.  Is there any advantage to choose one server platform over the other?
Performance, ease of profile management, and local/remote usage are currently identified functional areas that we would like to rate.  What other areas should we also consider?
If anyone has implemented this solution, what are your lessons learned that you can pass along to someone.
    Many Thanks!!!

    Hello All
Please say how many MDM certificates for different MDM servers can be generated under one Apple Developers Subscription?
    Thanks in advance

    So no Meraki MDM?
Supports Multiple VPP accounts, completely free, fully encrypted, and quite secure.
Otherwise, you might want to take a look at the mdm that Spiceworks has.

  • SRM MDM Installation

    Hi,
I am new For SRM MDM
Regarding SRM MDM< installation i need some help
    1) Is SRM MDM is inbuilt in the SRM 7.0 or we need to install seperately
    2) In the installation manual it is given that we need to install SAP netviewer JAVA AS is this SRM JAVA AS or do we need seperate SAP Netviewer JAVA AS
    3) I have seen that in the market place MDM installaions available under SRM 7.0, and if i run installation.exe i can find two options(Oracle ) a) MDM b) SRM MDM which one i have to select to install SRM MDM or this is not required
    4) In market place under Netviewer MDM there is a SRM MDM installables in this i can find
    a) MDM servers installables
    b)MDM Import manger
    c)etc..
is above installable are sufficient to run SRM MDM after installing SRM 7.0 or any other components required
    5) Do we need to install Orcale for SRM MDM also if yes how to connect to SRM MDM
    Thx

    Hi ,
1.What to download from service marketplace?
    Install the SRM MDM catalog 2.0 business content.This contains a separate MDM server,GUIs ,a2a file,sca files .
    2. Where to install?
Install MDM server and GUI.Aprt from MDM and SRM server we need to have WebAS.
    3. What all other configuration/setup needs to be done?
Unarchive the SRM MDM repository(.a2a file)
create roles ,users and fields in that.Load it.
    Import the data .
check the data in data manager.
Side by side u need to deploy the sca files on WebAS.
on SRM side EBP configuration to be done (define external webservices)
Also assign the catalog to users in SRM
    then using the URL
http://J2EE server:port/SRM-MDM/SRM_MDM do the OCI mappings
then u can see the MDM catalog in SRM
    U can refer note 1057316

  • MDM 5.5 SP6 install and post-install config - SLDREG related question

    Hello,
I've just installed MDM 5.5 SP6 on Oracle/Solaris and have the server running with no problems, repositories loaded, etc. I do receive the following error in the MDM Console which I understand to mean the sldreg utitlity cannot be found.
Error: Unable to register server in System Landscape Directory: Call to SLDREG Utility in /usr/sap/sldreg failed, Error = 0x100.
Set proper value for parameter 'SLDReg Utility Path' in server configuration file.
If you are not using SLD, set parameter 'SLD Registration' to false in server configuration file so that the server does not try to register with SLD. This will avoid this error in the future.
    My questions are:
    1. should there be an ABAP install on the same box which would create the file structure referenced above?
    2. or can this parameter be set to look at a different /usr/sap directory?
    3. Or can I just drop that utility in that directory ?
In other words, is there a recommendation to install an ABAP instance, thereby creating the referenced file structure on the same server as the MDM/Oracle instance? Or is there a workaround approach for this error.
Thanks in advance for your help

  • SMD Configuration on MDM 7.1 with Solution Manager 7.01 SP19

    Hi,
Kindly let me know if someone has faced issue with configuring SMD on SMD 7.1 with Solution Manager 7.01 SP19. Presently I have configured that and System is being shown in Wily Introscope Webview but Saposcol is greyed out in that.
Also system is not showing any data in Introscope Dashboard. Any guess for this?
Earlier while I was configuring SMD, error related to null installation directory (...Invalid root directory: /usr/sap/SID/null ) were occuring. After that when I created a softlink for saposcol service from /usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/saposcol to /usr/sap/SMD/SMDA97/exe.
Still no data and still in SMD Agent logs saposcol service warning is there.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Manish Singh

    Hi Jansi,
    Thanks for the reply..
Here is our scenario. SAPOSCOL was not there in /usr/sap/SMD/SMDA97/exe first place. So I made the softlink from /usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/saposcol to /usr/sap/SMD/SMDA97/exe and than re-ran setup again but still of no use.
Our Soltuion Manager saposcol version and MDM saposcol version is same. Below is the SMD Agent log of MDM server:

Our MDM is 7.1 version and Solution Manager is 7.01 (EHP1) with SP19 so we should configure our MDM system as 7.1 version which we did but still data is not coming in Wily properly. Its not showing SID name under the hostname in Wily Introscope and neither is MDM Servers (Master Data Import Server, Master Data Server & Master Data Syndication Server under SID).
Now the interesting thing is that if we configure our MDM server as 5.5 version with Solution Manager and do the configuration than its showing in Wily but in that case MDM Cockpit doesn't work.
We want both to work Wily as welll as MDM Cockpit since our MDM and Solman version matches for both configuration.
Any ides or help steps to do that?
    Thanks,

  • Multiple SRM Systems One SRM-MDM Catalog?

    Hi
I'm currently upgrading our SRM 5.0 to SRM 7.01 with SRM-MDM Catalog 7.01.  Is it possible to use one SRM-MDM Catalog in our non-production environment and connect multiple SRM systems to it?
For example our sandbox, development and QA SRM 7.01 systems would all connect to the same SRM-MDM Catalog 7.01.
    Thanks.
    Neil

    Hi,
for non-production use and if it is just a catalog without custom coding running I see no problem in using one MDM server for multiple SRM systems (especially sharing one for sandboxes and dev). It is a setup I have seen multiple times and it worked always without problems.
You should set up different repositories for each SRM system so that you don't interfere with each others data (i.e. suppliers or other lookups tied to SRM).
You have to keep in mind that you have to upgrade all systems together. But you can always use separate MDM servers during the upgrade process and then consolidate onto one server when the upgrade is done.
If you are running custom coding with your MDM catalog I would recommend having a separate MDM system for the QA SRM in order to be closer to the production set-up when testing your custom solution.

  • MDM 5.5 SP05 installation - Anyone installed it on SUSE Linux?

In accordance to my previous post, I will give the whole story of my installation in order to make it clear.
It is about a test server , running Linux SUSE LES 9.3. We want to install on it MDM5.5 (without NetWeaver -stand alone installation) and ORACLE 10g database.
So I started with the ORACLE 10.2 installation which went fine.
Now I am in the process of installing the MDM 5.5 on the same Linux server.
The installation guide is very poor regarding instructions for Linux like systems:
Extract the MDM Server, Import Server, and Syndication Server files from the archives with the
    following name structure:
    <server>.<incremental version>.<rebuild version>-<platform>-<compiler>.tar.<archive extension>
    2. Place the server files in the root directory under /opt.
We recommend to place and install all servers (MDS, MDIS, MDSS) in the same folder, for
    example /opt/MDM/bin.
    3. Install each server folder by executing tar -xvf <server file>.
    4. Delete the server archives and files.
    Launching the Servers
    1. Define a user account named mdm to run the MDM Servers on.
A process may not allocate more memory than the value of the ulimit -d command. So set
this value as large as possible for the mdm user. On some Unix-based OS, unlimited is
default, but on others, the kernel imposes a maximum value. Check your system carefully to
    determine the optimum setting.
For AIX 64bit, we recommend adding ulimit -d unlimited to the user profile of mdm.
    2. Log in as the mdm user.
    3. In the mdm account's home directory (or a subdirectory), set up execution directories for the servers.
The execution directories will contain various runtime files (for example, nohup.out for error
messages) that are created and used by the MDM server software. Normally these directories do not
    require any manual intervention.
We strongly recommend to set up an execution folder structure similar to the following example
to run each server process in its dedicated folder:
    ~mdm/mdm/mds
    /mdis
    /mdss
This ensures that the runtime files of the different servers are clearly separated.
Ensure that you make the dedicated execution directory the current one before launching one of
the servers. Use pushd to set the execution directory each time you run one of the servers.
    4. Launch each server (MDM Server, Import Server, and Syndication Server) from the mdm user
account by executing mds, mdis, or mdss from within the server's dedicated execution directory.
Do not run mds, mdis,or mdss from the installation directory or any subdirectory (this is the directory defined in the MDM_HOME variable).
So I have followed all these instructions but I am not sure what does it mean to "set execution directory"!!! My MDM home is /opt/MDM/bin under binI have mds, mdis and mdss with the respective scripts. I run them to launch the servers and I get the error:
    mdm@mucsapt2:/opt/MDM/bin> ./mds-r
./mds-r: error while loading shared libraries: libxerces-c.so.26: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
The libraries are there under /opt/MDM/liband with the right access rights.
The document says to run the mds-r from the execution path which should be under /home/mdm. Does it mean that I have to copy all the scripts there? It is not clear at all.
I am surprised, such  a big forum and nobody had faced this issue. Is there anybody who did the installation on Linux? From what I see there are not too many questions for the installation itself. Was it so straight forward for all you?
    Thanks in advance,
    Loukas

Unsupported Linux version should not make a major difference in this case...
This happens because your system runs out of swap space necessary for installer to fork and exec external process which configures the domain. Solution is to increase the amount of swap space available to installer - on Solaris this is usually done by cleaning up any unnecessary content from /tmp partition and shuting down non-essential processes prior to reinstalling. I suppose the same steps would help on Linux.
Before reinstallation you should also use provided uninstaller to cleanup this failed installation if you intend to install in the same location.

  • MDM 5.5 installed in Netweaver/Abap instance MCOD

Since MDM 5.5 install guide does not include Oracle as part of the installation (the installation is not SAPINST based), I installed MDM servers connecting to a netweaver/Abap instance that got installed separately, so in this case my MDM installation is MCOD. The installation was done using 2 separate Solaris containers, one for the Netweaver/oracle DB, one for the MDM servers.
This is working fine in DEV, QA so I'm planning to follow this architecture with my production system. Does anyone have a similar architecture?, if so I'd like to hear your experience and pain points.
    thank you

  • Socket error on receive message on MDM 7.1 Console

    Greetings -
This may be a simple question, but I couldn't find a solution, so here goes:
I have a new install for MDM:
    OS: B.11.31 U ia64 (HP Unix)
    MDM: 7.1.0.5
    DB: Oracle 10.2.0.4
    MDM Console Client : 7.1.0.5.92
I have MDM server and database on same server.  When I go to connect to the server
and create a repository for the first time, I get the message "Socket error on receive".
This happens when I go to set my DBMS Settngs as well ...
I didn't see that on my Suse Linux 10 install.
I am looking at the logs, but I don't see what / why the initial call does not go through to the
database to set up connection.  I have also put in fake SYSTEM / Password in the settings
and I get the same message.  It seems that it doesn't get to the point where it authenticates
    to the database(??).
I do have a core file.  If I do a 'strings' on the core file, it appears that there is a connection
trying to happen.  In the nohup.out file, I see this:
    [[excerpt]]
[[INFO]] <MDM/Servers/MDS/MDSCommon/XCSGlobalFunctions.cpp:410> "User authentication method: Repository"
ConnectionAcceptor::ConnectionAcceptor(): bind() failed with errno=0x000000E2 'Address already in use'
    Trying again for 120 seconds
    [/excerpt]
Though this could be a misleading message ...
    Few question:
How can I determine how to trace / see how the Console is trying to connect to the
    MDM server / database?
How can I figure out what address this is talking about?
Is this just a vague error or should I be looking somewhere specific for troubleshooting?
    Please advise!
    Thanks!

    Everyone -
We have a solution, however, it introduces a lot of new things that will require some
investigation.  Before I go to that level, let me tell you what we did to resolve:
    Recap:
Our MDM installation is on a shared OS (HP Unix) environment.  It is not virtual.  In short,
we have one large server and multiple application that have their own logical IP Addresses
    and hostnames.
When trying to connect from the MDM console (laptop/workstation/etc), through the application
(MDM server) to the database (on the HP Unix system) and create a repository, this is where we
see the 'Socket on receive' error.
    Solution:
As per SAP "Note 1264660 - MDM on HP-UX IA crash when used with Oracle 10.2.0.4 client",
part of the problem is because of how Oracle binds to a specific socket.  By itself, that
solution did not work.  This effects the server side, too.  The next steps to fix this were to:
extract the SAP OCL10264.SAR files in the shared client directory (/oracle/client/10x_64/instantclient)
backup the library files from the server-level area of Oracle (/oracle/<SID>/102_64/lib)
stop Oracle, the listener and MDM
copy the SAP OCI files (as noted in  1264660) to the /oracle/<SID>/102_64/lib directory also
    verify the Oracle environment variables
restart all systems and services (Oracle, MDM, listener)
Of course, your oracle library paths will vary.  Check your LD_LIBRARY_PATH for that location.
We also learned that if we set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable to where the
oracle client library files were (client side), things should work.  We did try that, but it did
not work.  At least, we tried it once and started to test other things (including our solution).
Feel free to try that option and update this thread.
Our solution was to copy those files directly into our server path and try again.
Thanks to everyone who took time to look at this!
