MDM Workflow and LDAP

Hi Junta,
We are on MDM 5.5 SP5 Patch2. Our MDM server is connected to LDAP for Authentication and Role to User assignment is stored in LDAP.
Problem 1. Check in/ Chek out is not working in the repository. I think this is a known problem and rectified in SP6. Correct me if I am wrong.
Problem2. I have created workflow. I am trying to assign a role to one of the step. This workflow checks out the record and pushes it to steps. When I trigger the workflow on a record, this gives me error saying that,  a preluanched job could not be initiated. Is this because of the problem 1.
How does workflow resolves the users from the role to send the tasks to? Does it talk to LDAP and finds the assignments? Or it expects the assignments to be local on MDM repository.
After LDAP connection and restart of the MDM server, I lost all my users in the assignment list when I try to assign the user to the step instead of role. Any comments / solution.
Thanks,
Amber

Hi,
I think your issue is item visibility in Search UI. What can you see in search UI? Can you see Category and Supplier?
If approval is not required, you do not need to create any workflow.
I have done 3 customer projects but none of them use item approval because items are validated by Excel Macro when they get data from supplier.

  • MDM Workflows and UWL in CE 7.11

    Hello,
I am working with MDM Workflows and UWL in CE 7.11.
For configuring the UWL, we need to set some property of MDM Result Set iView to
connect and display MDM workflows for an MDM repository in EP 7.0.
But in CE 7.11 the concept of Result Set iView is replaced by ResultSet component which we use as a used component in the custom wrapper (DC).
How to use ResultSet component  to configure UWL in CE 7.11 ?

  • MDM workflows and UWL

    Hello,
We have recently upgraded ourselves to MDM 5.5 SP4 Patch pack 4. This patch pack was intended to solve an earlier problem we faced when integrating Universal Worklist (UWL) with MDM.
Earlier the UWL would return error in case the MDM workflows had worklfow jobs which the user had to not "Accepted". If the user "Accepts" it using MDM Data Manager, then the record would appear on the UWL.
I wish to know how we can configure the "Accept" button on the UWL, so that the user sees all the "Available" workflows and can "Accept" the workflow job which he plans to work upon.
    Thanks in advance,
    PKS.

  • MDM workflows and MS VISIO

    Hi All,
    1. I have just installed MS Viso 2003 standard.I am on MDM 7.1 SP00
when i click on the workflow(in Data Manager)... it opens a visio screen..... looks like the installation is fine & linked.
I design some workflow, But I am able to see only two users(owner and launcher) in fields "Assign Users", "CC".
..... means in available uses/selected users, I can see only these two users, though there are other users(approver, data steward etc) created in CONSOLE.
....... why I am not able to see any other users?? ........ any thoughts, where things went wrong ?
    2. Also, I need to design a workflow where a new record has to be created and has to be sent to 3 users(user1, user2, user3) simultaniously and they will do the respective changes pertaning to their specifc areas(fields) and then has to be passed on to a single data reviewer.
Can you pls help me with the steps with the design...... espically passing to the simultanious users and getting updated and passed on to the reviewer...
    ...... waiting for ur reply
    regards,
    venu

    Sudhanshu,
    A. this is the scnrio I need to design.
    1. A record gets created.. and workflow starts
    2. should be sent to 3 users simultaniously(user1, user2, user3)
ex. if user1 only enters some genral data, user2 enters tax related data, etc...
    4. 3 approvers need to be assigned now for the respertive users(having different role).
approver1 checks for general data, approver2 for tax data, approver3...
    5. If any of them gets disapproved .... should go to the concerned user.
    6. If all the 3 approvers approve, should to sent to the final approver.
    1. created
    2. i have assigned process step and sent it to 3 users.
but how to go with the rest scnrio steps.......
    B. Also my notify step is not sending emails, I have provided the IP address, and disabled the LDAP in the .ini file, i provided a
valid email address  for the wf owner........ do you think anywhere I missed out.
How do I know if I have provided the correct IP address..........any way to verify?

  • MDM Workflow and Reporting

    HI,
How to setup workflow in my system the workflow tab is disabled in record mode. Can anyone send me the step by step approch of the same please or else do mail me at [email protected]
Is it possible to take a report after matching (transformation, startegy) in data manager. In word or excel..... If Yes do send me the details.
    Thanks in advance,
    Suresh

    Hi Suresh,
I really want to confirm few things from your questions....
First of all when you dont install the workflow component install files in your system, while you access the current tables from the Datamanager the Workflow table will be <b>disabled</b>, as well as <b>you wont see any status modes</b> under the workflow tab... but if you are not able to access workflow tab itself seems to be product version issue, please let me know which version you are in???

  • MDM Workflow Launch Problem version SAP MDM 7.1.2.59

    Hi All,
I have installed SAP MDM 7.1.2.59 on SUSE Linux Server 64-bit m/c. And installed all Clients on Windows XP.
MS-Visio is also installed on my windows Box.
But when i open data manager i am seeing the workflow icon disabled. Also not able to add a workflow.
Any one knows what is the reason for this?
Please  let me know if i need to add any specific patch at Server side.
    Srinivas

    Hey -
    Checkout your visio setting
In MDM Data Manager, make sure the Workflows table is the current table. In the Records pane, select any workflow record.
In the Record Detail tab, then double-click on the Workflow property to open Microsoft Visio. Choose Tools > Options from the Visio main menu.Choose File Paths to open the File Paths dialog.  In the File Paths dialog, set both Add-Ons and Start-Up to the folder where the Worklfow.vsl file is installed (the Data Manager installation folder, by default). Click OK to close the File Paths dialog.

  • MDM Workflow - Email log

    Hi there,
I'm playing around with the email functionality of MDM Workflow and got a question. My workflow runs fine, but my emails are not being received.
What I was looking for was a place to start the investigation : I would expect that at least some errors are written into some logfiles. Anybody knows if there are logfiles for this type of errors ?
    Thx,
    Dirk

    Hi Dirk,
Doing setting in mds.ini is not sufficient. It is required that MDM server should talk to mail server. In order to setup this, you need to make them talk each other and this is the way it can be done.
You need to define ip address and name of the mail server in one of the windos setup file. What I have done to resolve this problem is as follows:
locate the file hosts (WINNT -> system32 -> drivers -> etc -> hosts. You need to open in notepad).
Read the instructions mentioned in the file as
This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each  entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one space.
With this entry, we are linking mail server with application.
This has resolved my problem. Thanks to my colleague Chintamani for probing into mail server further.
Secondly, it is not necessary that the notification can come only from the owner, it depends on at what stage notification is setup. Action owner can send notification as we configure the same during notification setup.

  • Connected MDM and LDAP, but but now what? Why user mapping?

    Hi Gurus,
In my last thread, I posted that I was not able to connect MDM with LDAP. I was finally able to.
My problem now is I have to define user mapping in SAP Portal for the MDM business iViews to work.
By connecting MDM and LDAP, I got the benefit that now the authentication and authorization is happening via LDAP.
But this does eliminate the need for user mapping. If this is the case then why the real benefit of using LDAP?
In this case this becomes worse as I need to know the user's LDAP Password which no body will share for sure.
Any ideas? I want to get rid off this user mapping stuff.
    Warn Regards,
    Karan

without knowing specifics of ur architecture, i can quickly point out two things:
    1)  LDAP is primarily used for authentication, true.
    2) Portal User mapping should not be an issue if u already have portal tied up to the active directory or some kind of single sign on?
So portal knows the users who has logged it, polls the Active directory for authentication and Active directory logs into MDM with that users role.

  • MDM Workflow - Split jobs for Adds and Updates

I am trying to set up a workflow where the inbound file contains Adds and Updates. I want the Adds to get added to a new workflow and the updated records to split off into a separate workflow branch where they will be automatically processed.
Any ideas on how to split these records?
    Regards,
    Brent

Have a Status field in the data model. This status field will have "Add" or "Change" as the possible values.
When record gets added, you set this flag to "Add".
When record gets changed, you set this flag to "Change".
Have a validation step. for Record = Add.
If the validation passes, then it is a "Add scenario". Use the branch step for the validation success branch and the validation failure branch.
You should now have two branches one for add and the other for change.

  • Workflow and branching

    Hi Experts!
I am creating a workflow for Material creation scenario.I am not using LDAP and all user and roles are defined in SAP MDM.
I have 10 plants and have 2 level approver for 6 material types.
That means there are 6 material types with differen approvers and each in turn are different for 10 plants.
So I want to know which is a better way,
1.Maintaining 10 workflow for each plan and then branching for various types.
2.Creating 1 workflow which determines which plant and call from that Workflow other worflows.
If you have any other ideas pls share.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Ravz

    Hello Ravz,
Your scenario is best suited for modeling outside MDM (possibly in BPM).
Modeling this in MDM will be more complicated from implementation as well as maintenance point of view.
Probably you will end up with lots of customizations, if you decide to model it in MDM.
Because you cannot dynamically assign approver's in MDM workflow.
    Also you cannot access modifier (i.e. user) and its role details, anywhere in MDM (assignments, validations, and workflows);
hence you need to keep this plant to its approver mapping somewhere else.
Also consider the point that you cannot use checkin/checkout operations on Tuple or Qualified level.
This will lead to dirty read, because you have to save modifications on original record before approval,
that too you cannot revert modifications in case of rejection.
Tuple or Qualified level change Syndication is another headache.
Designing this scenario in MDM will become measure maintenance night-mer after go-live.
One option of design may solve most of the above problems.
That is: Create a dedicated main table for plants.
Means you will have two main tables one will be analogous to MARA and another will represent MARC.
But, this design is against the packaged Material repository provided by SAP.
Also decision of creating multiple main table should be taken carefully, because it may be a performance hit.
    Regards,
    Shaailesh.

  • Mdm workflow through sap r/3

    hello experts
I have a scenario to trigger a workflow in SAP R/3 from MDM
Objects need to be created in SAP for this
I found this in a pdf file
"A pre-requisite for connecting SAP Business Workflow to MDM is to build a BOR Object which represents the products in MDM. But how does this BOR Object really communicate with MDM?
Using MDM ABAP API – Creating an ABAP code which communicates with MDM via MDM ABAP API (available as of MDM 5.5 SP3). Using the ABAP API directly from the Workflow environment simplifies integration between SAP Business Workflow and MDM, but makes integration to other systems more difficult as ABAP is not the greatest environment with regards to openness."
How do I go about it ? Where is this API and how do I use it ?

this is the link to the pdf

  • MDM Workflow Expiry message

    Hi Experts,
I have a scenario in which MDM workflow is active, workflow is working fine and there are absolutely no issues. The only problem is, For workflow owner, I am getting following message everyday (If workflow is not clear or executed).
The following workflow step is overdue because it has exceeded its expiration timeout:
    Assignee:                ; MDM System
    Job:                    10565
    Job Owner:              MDM System
    Records:                1
    Start time:             04/14/2011 00:22:19 GMT
    Expiration time:        04/24/2011 00:22:19 GMT
    Workflow:               Workflow Name
    Step:                   ABC
    Description:
    Repository:             MDM Repository
May be some setting missing, I want to deactivale this workflow reminder. Can you please guide and help?
    Regards,
    Maddy

not sure on why you want to take the notifications out - for the sake of receiving harmless emails
u can direct them to the spam folder easily
    but still if u wish
go to the workflow visio diagram -- find notify step -- and remove ur emai id from the settings.
    thanks
    -Adrivit
This will stop ALL email notifications pertaining to THIS workflow to ur id.

  • Max number of records in MDM workflow

    Hi All
    Need urgent recommendations.
We have a scenario where we need to launch a workflow upon import of records. The challenge is source file contains 80k records and its always a FULL load( on daily basis) in MDM. Do we have any limitation in MDM workflow for the max number of records? Will there be significant performance issues if we have a workflow with such huge number of records in MDM?
    Please share your inputs.
    Thanks-Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
Yes it can cause performance overhead and you will also have to optimise MDIS parametrs for this.
Regarding WF i think normally it is 100 records per WF.I think you can set a particular threshold for records after which the WF will autolaunch.
It is difficult to say what optimum number of records should be fed in Max Records per WF so I would suggest having a test run of including 100/1000 records per WF.Import Manager guide say there are several performance implications of importing records in a WF,so it is better to try for different ranges.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

  • Connecting MDM to a LDAP directory (IDM)

    Hi experts,
Does anybody already connected MDM to a LDAP directory? I have a requirement to integrate MDM with IDM (Novell). The IDM should mantain users and groups of MDM.
Also, is there any way to connect UME on MDM user and groups database? this solution is also valid once the IDM is already integrated with EP.
    Thanks in advance,
    Armando Martines Neto

    Hi Armando,
MDM integration with LDAP is supported in MDM 7.1, you can configure and use LDAP as a datasource for users and roles. You can create a custom attribute in LDAP to identify the MDM Roles. Refer to the MDM Console Reference Guide for the procedure.
Regarding you second question, if you have configured the same LDAP ds in portal also then you can us Trusted Connections to enable SSO between portal and MDM.
    Hope this helps!!
    Cheers,
    Arafat
