Mdp to tv

I have a late 2011 MBP 13' 2.4ghz i5.
I tried using the Mini Display port to an HDMI cable to connect to my tv, my screen would turn blue for a second then return normal and wouldnt display on the TV, even when I closed the lid it wouldn't play video or audio. I've heard this model doesn't support it for some reason, I hope that's not the case. I used mt friends MBP witht the same cable and Tv and his worked just fine. D:

I've been using my U2410 with my 2009 MBP (MacBookPro5,3) for about a year. I've had it connected with a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. It does get detected as a TV, but it has been working fantastically after I turned on overscan.
I've hooked up my new 2011 MBP (MacBookPro8,2) to the U2410 with the same cable and the picture looks horrible! I've tried changing the settings that I think could make a difference, but the only way to get a good image was to dig out my old DVI adapter dongle.
Both MBPs are using the same cable and are both running 10.6.8 so it's obviously something to do with the new Thunderbolt connector.
How can I get this working properly?

  • How to properly disconnect a Mini Display Port (MDP) from a Macbook Pro 2012, 1,9?

    Hello:
I was wondering if any Macxperts out there had any idea on how to properly disconnect a MDP Thunderbolt Cable from a 2012 1,9 Gen. Macbook Pro. From my experience with older Macbooks the command was "Command + F7" or something of the sort.
On my Macbook Pro 2012, there is no such button or commend to properly disconnect the plug; as if one were to disconnect or "eject" an external HD. I have read some articles on Google that some people just disconnect the plug and that action is sufice to disconnect an external video projection (Ex: Flat Screen Samsung).
Can a Macxpert or Genius comment on this piece of information? I would really apprecite some light shed on this situation. I just don't see unpluggin a cable connected to a video source enough to properly shut off a connection with out damaging the Macbook Pro's video card.
    Thanks

    Hello, Niel:
I just answer my own question. Forgive me but I am not up-to-date on the techlingo (Hot Swappable) but I just googled the term and found my answer.
    Thanks again.

  • Apple 20" CD connects fine to MacBook Pro 2009 via DVI to Mini displayport (adapter) but not to Radeon 5770 (either MDP ports) on MacPro 2008?! Have Eizo CG223 on DVI to 5770. Any ideas?

    Here's the setup:
Eizo Coloredge CG223 DVI to DVI on MacPro 5770 interface (ACD works fine on this too, naturally).
Apple Cinema Display 20" have the DVI connector. I have a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter on this, into one of the 5770's MDPs, neither of which seem to work.
Plug the same ACD via DVI (with DVI to MDP adpater) into my MacBook Pro 2009 MDP and it works fine as a second screen.
So what's up with the 5770 MDPs? I've seen online that the card should at least support two displays, either MDPs x2 or MDP and DVI. I've seen there may be an issue with three, not two.
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks,
    Y

Striped down to bare inputs - monitors and keyboard/mouse. Works! Dimerising must have interfered with it. Phew!

  • HDMI doesn't work, but MDP- DVI- HDMI works

    Hello!
I just got my new Mac Mini and tried to connect it to my TV (a Samsung LE22S8) over HDMI, but this doesn't work since the TV reports "unsupported resolution" (it's the TV's native resolution of 1680x1050, where I also checked all frequencies using an external program and they are as written in the manual of the TV).
However when I connect the TV over a Mini Display Port to DVI adapter, and then use a DVI to HDMI adapter (so that the TV is still using the HDMI input) it works fine.
So what's the difference between MDP->DVI->HDMI and HDMI->HDMI (all resolution and pixel frequency settings are identical)? What can I do to get the HDMI->HDMI solution working?

It also appears that there is no conversion when HDMI-video is extracted from DVI, only that the pins are shuffled.
If direct DVI works on that port, then HDMI-video with an adapter should work as well. As I mentioned above, VGA is present on DVI-I ports on a separate set of pins, and VGA working or VGA not working has no bearing on your problem.
If a Mini DisplayPort is involved, the most common issue is that the Mini DisplayPort connector is not inserted firmly enough. It has a lot of pins and you have to press hard to seat it.
Other possibilities are that the resolution you selected is beyond the capability of the display device, or that the adapter is bad.
Is this the stock display card, or one you added later, and what model?

  • Anyone else having trouble connecting MBP with thunderbolt port (TBp) and 27"iMac with mini display port (MDp)

I have a 27" Imac.i7 with mini displayport and MBP13 i5 with thunderbolt port. Some time ago I tried to connect my old MBP with miniDP  to The 27"iMac I Failed so did the apple centre they refunded cable costs and said I'd be contacted by Cupertino. That was 9 months ago, now replaced MBP with 13 inch(**** I can use my iMac as display!). Does not work phoned Fast Lane very helpful guy called JIM emailed me some software/firmware update links.  Still no display linking. One of the links was for a couple of updates for a TBp equiped 27" iMac mine is only MDp equiped. Failing to find any MDp updates in apple support.  Anyone have any Ideas!  My lad has a later 27"i5 he uses Xbox 360 no problem on his but it wont look at my MBP.
Beginning to feel like some of the kit that went with a fully loaded 5500 worked eventually. Computer and FM radio, Photography kit fine, video capture audio capture forget it.  Too many crashes and resets made it impractical.

  • Using both MDP adapter with DVI to HDMI adapter supplied by Apple

I may be missing something here but I want to be able to use both the above adapters in order to run two DVI screens on my late 2012 Mini. Because of the shape of the HDMI-DVI adapter supplier by Apple being too wide, the MDP adapter will not physically fit into the port situated next the HDMI port. This seems crazy! Does anyone have any ideas please?
    Thanks in advance.

My MDP is an Apple product and the same as the link you posted.
My HDMI to DVI adapter supplied with the Mini is this one here, I believe.

The shape of the HDMI to DVI adapter will not allow the MDP to be inserted into the back of the Mini.

  • Thunderbolt and MDP to VGA Adapter Compatibility Issue?

    Hi Veterans,
I know this topic have been asked a lot of times by different people who faced the issue in different way. However, i am unable to find an absolute solution to the problem i am facing currently.
My question is, can a 3rd party made, Mini Display Port to VGA adapter works on MBP & iMac that have mini display port and not on those that have thunderbolt port??
I have a 3rd party made, Mini Display Port to VGA adapter that i have tried on 3 apple PC / laptop,
A MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) which comes with Mini DispayPort, the adapter work with this laptop.
A iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) which comes with Mini Display Port, the adapter work with this PC too.
A MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) which comes with Thunderbolt port, the adapter does not work with this laptop. I have tried many solutions i can find on this forum and none helped.
The software is fully up-to-date as of 30 April 2013, running Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion).
Tried safe mode, does not helped.
Tried the boot up when monitor is already switched on procedure, does not helped.
In all cases, it was tested on the same external monitor. As my MBP was dual-booted using Bootcamp assistant 4.0, i also tried in windows-mode (windows 7) which didn't work too. In windows mode, the screen just keeps flickering while in mac-mode i get a light blue screen. In both cases, the external monitor shows nothing. The external monitor is a Compaq FP7317 monitor with native resolution 1280 x 1024 at 75.0 Hz.
All these trying have leave me very perplexed. From my research, the thunderbolt port is suppose to accept devices meant for mini display port. So how could an adapter that work on mini display ports, not work on a thunderbolt port? Can any expert enlighten me?

Problem solved. I picked up the MDP to VGA adapter and was able to use the monitors native res of 1920x1200 but the flicker and wavyness made it impossible to use. And yes the adapter had the current firmware. But what I discovered in the process was that in mirror mode I am unable to drive the monitor at optimum resolution. With that in mind I tried the MDP to HDMI adapter again, unchecking mirror mode, moving the Finder bar to the external display and SHAZAM. I have a rock solid display external display now running at 1920x1200 : )

  • I have a 2011 i5 iMac and I am trying to connect it to my Samsung PS50C680 Plasma TV. I am using a MDP to HDMI cable and using HDMI 1 which is the correct input according to the manual. No matter which I turn on first the iMac still cannot connect.

I have a 2011 i5 iMac and I am struggling to connect it to my Samsung PS50C680 Plasma TV. I am using a MDP to HDMI cable and using HDMI1 on the TV as shown in the manual. No matter which I turn on first etc the iMac cannot find the display and the TV shows no signal. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can i use a mdp in a thunderbolt?

can i use a mdi in a thunderbolt? The guy in the apple store told me to get an MDP and use it in my thunderbolt socket as there was no difference, but it doesnt work. i have tried detecting display, it doesnt work. i used to connect my old mac to the same TV using VGA

If your MBP was manufactured after mid 2010, you need a mini display to HDMI or VGA (depending on your TV). One cable will transmit both video and audio on these newer MBPs. CableMatters.com provides some of the best prices (they also sell their cables on Amazon). Search for "mini display port to HDMI cable" or "mini display port to VGA cable". The Mini display port on the newer MBPs is the Thunderbolt port.
Once you acquire the proper cable(s), connect them to MBP and TV with both turned off.
Turn on MBP and then turn on TV.
    Open SYSTEM PREFERENCES.
    Select DISPLAYS.
    Under ARRANGEMENT, select MIRROR DISPLAYS.
In SYSTEM PREFERENCES > SOUND > OUTPUT, select your TV.

Sounds like you may have been in extended display mode. If so, all you had to do was drag a window to the projector display. Or, if you wanted mirrored mode, in display preferences select check mirror display.

  • IMac 2011 Thunderbolt - iWires MDP to HDMI

Hello all - I've had a good trawl through the communities and am unable to find a fix for my issue.
I've recently upgraded from a 2010 mac mini, with HDMI to a new iMac 2011 - which has the new thunderbolt port.
By my understanding, this will enable me to use the Thunderbolt Port - identical to the old Mini Display Port to output HDMI to my HDTV.
I've bought a MDP to HDMI adapter (http://store.apple.com/uk/product/H2774ZM/A/Mini-DisplayPort-to-HDMI-Cable-2m)
But my mac will not recognise my TV, no matter which way method I use.... ie turning tv off and then plugging in to the mac..
Do I have a dodgy lead / dodgy mac, or both!?
My intention is to swap the lead at the apple store - and see what happens... but in the meantime, I thought I'd pick your brains!
    Cheers,
    Tom

Fixed.... turned both the tv and the imac off and on a few times.. eventually worked and is fine now.  I can also confirm that the sound does work perfectly!

  • Thoroughly confused about supported resolutions using MDP to VGA adapter

I've read many posts on the topic and I still have no idea what is correct. Some people claim the max res for this adapter is 1600x1200 while others claim they are getting 1920x1200 with it. I have a 24" HP LCD that has VGA and HDMI as the input choices. HDMI limits the res to 1920x1080. Will this adapter run the HP @ 1920x1200 (native resolution) or will it limit it to 1600x1200 ? BTW this is being used on a late 2008 unibody MacBook. Thanks

  • TV not recognizing MDP to VGA adapter

    Hi,
I'm new to Macs and just bought my first about a week ago.  I tried to hook up my TV to my computer using the MDP to VGA adapter.  When I plug in the adapter the screen goes blue for a second just like it does when I hook it up with HDMI, but it doesn't go to the display.  My TV says nothing is connected and in the System Preferences, it says nothing about having a second monitor and there is no "Arrangement" tab under the diaplys.  Thanks!

  • I have connected my macbook pro to my tv via MDP to HDMI port cable, all that is showing up is the basic desktop image without any icons, what do i do to correct this

i have connected my macbook pro to my tv via MDP to HDMI port cable, all that is showing up is the basic desktop image without any icons, what do i do to correct this

Your MBP is running in "extended desktop" mode, where the two screens together make one larger area to display windows. You can drag one or more windows from the primary (internal) screen to the secondary (TV) screen. By default, the secondary screen is off to the right of the primary screen.
If you would prefer the two screens show the same image, you want to switch to "mirroring" mode. You will have to pick a single resolution for both screens, which may look poor on one or the other.
Both the relative positions of the two screens in extended desktop mode and the switch to mirroring mode can be set in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement.

  • Mini-DVI or MDP?

I just purchased one of the new mini's yesterday to replace my Second gen mini and I am wondering what is the better method of connecting to my TV. I am using a Samsung LN-52A750 connected via DVI-HDMI. Will using the MDP give me a better picture or are they gong to be the same. Thanks

The picture quality will be the same between the two interfaces. The only real interesting difference is whether either or both outputs supports HDCP, which could affect what type of content can be played through the mini and on the TV.
Since the mini comes with a Mini DVI to DVI adapter, you might as well start with that interface until there is some form of confirmation about HDCP and whether it is supported at all and, if so, over which interface.

  • MBP 2011 using mDP to U2410 = TV?

    Hi folks,
is there any solution to use display with DP native (without an ugly mDP->DVI adapter)?
The old MacBook 2009 shows crispy fonts, but my new MBP (double expensive) shows shadows like connected with a old, cheap analog VGA.
When will there be a solution for that?
