MDS 9124e - Port 'Externally Disabled'

Hi Guys
Hoping you can help with this one..
On a MDS9124e switch installed in a HP C-Class Blade Enclosure I am seeing the port status as 'Externally Disabled' The port has acquired a license OK but will not come up.
The same problem was refrenced at http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Data%20Center&topic=Storage%20Networking&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Dpass_through%26location%3Doutline%40%5E1%40%40.1ddf9f63/0#selected_message
But I cannot find any settings in the HP Onboard Admin that would enable a port on the fabric switch.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Stuart

Hi Phil
The Onboad Administrator Port Mapping for the 9124e in question was showing as connected on that port which was why I thought it was strange that the port was showing as 'extDisabled' on the switch in 'show interface brief'.
The blade is at a remote side so this morning I had the HBA mez card reseated and the port has now come up on the switch, not sure if it was the reseating of the card or the insertion of the blade into the enclosure that cured it.
Thanks for your reply!!
Stuart

  • The Cisco MDS 9000 Port Analyzer Adapter

    Hi,
At my client place, we are having an issue with BackUp via TSM and a library.
We would like to analyse the traffic that pass in the Fiber Channel of our MDS-9513.
From what we saw, Wireshark, our soft to analyse network traffic is only using NIC card to analyse.
Is the only way to analyse the FC traffic to pass via "The Cisco MDS 9000 Port Analyzer Adapter" ?
If that is the only way, is there a way tor ent this equipment for the time necesery to analyse our trace ?
Thank you in advance for you help.

The Cisco Traffic Analyzer provides real-time analysis of SPAN traffic or analysis of captured traffic through a Web browser user interface. Traffic encapsulated by one or more Port Analyzer Adapters can be analyzed concurrently with a single PC and ntop, which is public domain software enhanced by Cisco for Fibre Channel traffic analysis. This Cisco Traffic Analyzer solution enables you to quickly determine the throughput for traffic between specific Fibre Channel sources and destinations, all traffic in a particular Virtual SAN (VSAN), or all network traffic. Round trip response times, SCSI I/Os per second, SCSI read vs. write traffic throughput and frame counts, SCSI session status and management task information are provided. Additional statistics are also available on Fibre Channel frame sizes and network management protocols.

  • My USB ports get disabled on my iMac when in sleep mode

I can't seem to figure this out. When waking from sleep mode, all my USB ports are disabled. I first noticed it when the USB speakers stopped working, but none of the ports work, to the printer, or to the scanner. The only way to reactivate the ports is to do a restart. I did a virus scan of my entire HD but it found nothing. I have not installed any new software recently so I'm stumped. I'm hoping this isn't a hardware issue.

Sometimes, a computer has a problem remapping your USB devices after sleep. Disconnect all of your USB devices: printers, mice, scanners, everything. Wait a minute. Reinsert the devices. This resets your USB map.

  • Port N disabled by hub (EMI?), re-enabling (USB transfer unstable)

    Hi all,
I have experienced highly unstable data transfer to/from my USB stick and USB attached memory card reader for the last 5 days or so. Everytime I try to copy data to or from these devices the transfer ends up in hundreds of I/O Errors due to resets of the devices by the hub.

  • MDS FC Port mode for UCS connectivity

    Hi,
A little question on admin mode of the MDS switch port which is connected to a UCS Fabric Interconnect.
The switch is a MDS 9509 running SAN OS v3.3, we have enabled NPIV on the MDS switch. Currently the port's admin mode is 'auto' and its operational mode is 'F'.
Therefore is it safe to change the admin mode to 'F' or is it better to keep 'auto' as it is.
    Cheers,
    Kisanka

Thanks Jeramy. Since the final operational mode is F, is it safe to administratively set the mode to 'F'

  • Netflix: HTTP port is disabled / blocked by firewall - how to fix?

Hi there.  I've been using Netflix for over a year with no issues.  I don't have Internet T, but the service is available via my Samsung Blueray.  My Blueray is linked into my Time capsule.  I'm now trying to set up Netflix US via a DNS.  I set up the DNS instructions on my MAC, and they work great (I had Netflix on my computer before - this is an enhanced service).
To see Netflix US on the big screen, I had to make some changes to the Network settings on the BR player, which involved manually setting the IP, Subnet mask , Gateway and DNS server.  And now Netflix does not work.  My Blureray is communicating with my Mac / Time Capsule but NOT the Internet.  When I do a Network test, the Mac address, the IP, Subnet, and Gateway ping all check, but the Internet Service Test fails with the following message:
"The HTTP port is disabled.  Please check if the HTTP pot is blocked by something like the internet firewall program".
Ploblem is, I don't know how to do that (I am not exactly Mac savvy - still working on that).  How do I check this internet firewall program, and how do I enable it?  I am sure it is something simple, but I do not know what it is.
I did see other similar issues with Netflix, but not like this one.  If I go back to the automatic settings on the BR (I have to enter my password for the Time Capsule), I get Netflix again.
Thank you!  Hope someone can assist.  I'd love to be able to get Netflix US working on my BR / TV big screen, not just on  my Mac.

System Preferences/Security/Firewall - should be on.
Not sure if this article will help - Mac OS X v10.5, 10.6: About the Application Firewall
Not even sure if any solution will work as Macs are not compatible with Blue Ray.

  • HP Blade Cisco MDS 9124e

    Hello all,
I got a new c7000 with some MDS swithes.  I'm trying to get to the latest software.  I started at 4.1.x and can only get to 4.2.9.  I'm then trying to upgrade to 5.0.4d it fails.  In Fabric Manager it fails during copying and when i try to install via CLI i get the following:
    -- FAIL. Return code 0x       0 (success).
Install has failed. Return code 0x40930068 (Runtime check failed).
Please identify the cause of the failure, and try 'install all' again.
Currently i have 5.0.7 FM installed.  So question is can i get to 5.0?
Another question is can i get to 5.2.2 with using FM 5.0.7?  Or do i have to install DCNM?
Thanks for your time and support,
    Nick

You can map internal to external using VSANs...Put the blade in slot x in vsan xxx and the external internal interface also into vsan xxx.
The real question is why you need to do this?  The external ports are usually used for ISLs to a core swtich, and they can be TE ports which carry multiple VSANs.
If you install a storage unit into one of the external ports, you can limit access by zoning.  The blade port and the external port would need to be in the same VSAN, and then on that VSAN you can create a zone/zoneset to permit the blade to access the storage port.
There really is no need to map traffic between the internal and external ports per se.
If you can provide more details as to what you need to accomplish, we can provide a more accurate reply.
Unless you are well versed in FSPF and fiber channel routing, I would steer clear of the fcroute commands or you could end up with asymetric traffic flows.

    Mike

Can you send the output of

show lldp dcbx interface ethernet 1/3
a workaround may be to disable lldp on both sides on these physical interfaces

  • Get rid of mds virus, not just disabling

I contracted the dreaded mds virus.  There is also something called md worker--two files, in fact.
There are quite a few posts on here on how to disable it but how do it get rid of it completely?  Also will disabling or getting rid of it mean the files it infected have to be replaced?  I guess it must also be on my backup drive.
Thank you to any and everyone who replies.

Well, I did the first part up to the point of highlighting the drive I'd dragged into the Privacy window.  I hightlighted the drive and tried to drag it back onto the desktop.  When that didn't work, I hit the minus sign and was able to drag it out.  Was that correct?  It's not like anything seemed to be going on while it was the in Privacy window.
Perhaps you can let me know the best way I can tell if the problem has been remedied.
    Thank you, Kurt.

  • ISE posture requirement to check if endpoint's USP port is disabled

    Hi,
I wonder if it is possible to set the disabled USP Port in the endpoints as a requirement in ISE Posture ?
    Appreciate your input.
    Mike

If your question pertains to the capability of the ISE disabling the USB port on a PC, then the answer is no.
Using the NAC agent, however, you can check various programs and may be able to check the condition of USB.
You would have to create a New Posture Condition and Remediations.
The condition that I will use in this example is a Registry Key.
If the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor\Start" has a value of 3, the USB is enabled.  A value of 4 is disabled.
    So set a Posture Condition:
Click Policy > Policy Elements > Conditions
Choose Posture from the left menu:
Then choose Registry Condition from the left menu.
Click +Add to add a new Posture Condition:
Then you have to create Remediation Actions.  Click the Results button at the top of the left Menu:
Choose Remediation Actions and choose the Remediation you want to use.  I chose Link Remediation.
+Add to add a new Link Remediation:
Then choose Requirements from the left menu and create a new Remediation Result:
Of course, you can choose different remediations as necessary for your environment.
Please Rate Helpful posts and mark this question as answered if, in fact, this does answer your question.  Otherwise, feel free to post follow-up questions.

    1.  If the ports TenGigabitEthernet0/1 and/or TenGigabitEthernet0/2 goes into error-disable caused by UDLD or link-flap then disable the port, wait for 5 seconds, enable the port;
    2.  Wait for 15 seconds and send an email.
I only want this EEM to work on the TenGigabitEthernet interfaces and I do not want the EEM script to do this on the access ports.
Error-disable recovery is a global option and there's no option to limit on a per-interface level.
    Thank you in advance.

    Thanks for responding, Joe.
We were not able to take down the error messages but I believe they error messages could be:
%UDLD-4-UDLD_PORT_DISABLED: UDLD disabled interface Te0/2, unidirectional link detected
%PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: udld error detected on Te0/2, putting Te0/2 in err-disable state
Could an EEM script be created when an error message or an event of "unidirectional link detected" occurs, do the following:
    1.  In privilege mode, issue the command "udld reset".
    2.  Wait for 30 seconds and then send an email.
Thanks for your assistance and support, Joe.

  • JBD2: Error -5 in USB 3 port external HDD when copying

    Hello,
I'm getting very weird error, why I connect my external harddrive to my laptop through USB3 port and try to copy some bigger amount of data. Other USB2 ports works well.
After few minutes of copying (about 2-4 minutes) disc is disconnect leaving this in dmesg:
JBD2: I/O error detected when updating journal superblock for sdc1-8
    fdisk -l

I also runned fsck, but that didn't find anything.
    Thank you
EDIT: I also noticed that it corrupted some of the files (my gf was browsing through photo during transfer and about 5% of them are corrupted - zero size).

  • Serial Port Echo Disabling

Is there a way to turn off an echo on the serial port?
I am sending some commands to the serial and they get echoed back before I can read a reply. Sending the same commands via Socket doesn't give me an echo, so my algorithm for Serial and TCP/IP connection has to differ. It would be nice, however, to just turn off the echo.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Janny.

I am not connecting through a modem but doing a direct serial connection from PC to a telecom equipment serial port. IF I disable an echo using ATE modem command the equipment I sent the commands to freaks out since it can't recognize the command.
