MDS9216 & MDS9124 Fabric Switches interface stats. via SNMP

Dear All,
I am interested in monitoring the interface statistics (In/Out bytes) of MDS9216 & MDS9124 Fabric Switches via SNMP and have been researching on what OID (MIB) values shall i poll? Would anyone be able to help me please? I have looked at many places but the closest I could get is the IF-MIB MIB Interface which has ifTable giving ifInOctets and ifOutOctest per port !  I am not sure if this is what i am suppose to poll as the ifInOctets gives 'the total number of octets recieved on the interface' and not the traffic ? What i am interested in is knowing the traffic (rx / tx) on the port at the time of polling so i can poll them say every 5 min. and plot them via something like cacti.
Please let me know if any one has got any suggestion as I am not getting anywhere on this.
Thanks in advance.

ifSpeed I see listed here :-

not sure if that will give you what you need.  We use solarwinds to monitor our MDS's.

  • Stateless ejb stats VIA SNMP?

Using WL 8.1 SP3(ish) and I'm trying to retrieve stateless EJB stats via SNMP.
However, a snmpwalk of 1.3.6.1.4.1.140.625.170 reveals nothing.
The MIB states this is ejbStatelessHomeRuntimeTable.

  • Unable to add switches to CAM via SNMP

    Hello all,
I am now starting some POC work and was progressing well until I came to adding some 4510 switches to the CAM to control OOB devices.
I have full IP connectivity between the switch management VLAN interface (the switch is running in layer 2 only) and the CAM eth0 interface over the network with no firewalls in the way.
I have tried configuring both SNMP versions on the CAM and I have captured the SNMP communication between the switch and the CAM which is being received by the switch and is being responded to. So I have proved that SNMP packets are reaching the various devices. There is no routing or switching issues.
Would someone please mind giving me a hand and tell me why the CAM cannot control the switch. When you try to add the switch it comes up with a message like "unable to control 10.108.2.15" This is the management VLAN2 on the test switch. I have used test communities public and private respectively on the CAM to match the switch.
SNMP switch config snippet below. The CAM is at 10.108.100.10.
    snmp-server engineID local 800000090300001D4572F86E
    snmp-server community public RO 10
    snmp-server community private RW 10
    snmp-server trap-source Vlan2
    snmp-server enable traps snmp linkdown
snmp-server enable traps mac-notification change move threshold
    snmp-server host 10.108.100.10 version 2c private
    snmp-server host 10.108.100.10 version 2c public
access-list 10 permit 10.108.100.10   (This is the CAM referenced in ACL 10 so the poll will work)
    Thanks kindly,
    Oliver

    Hi again Faisal,
The switch is a 4510R-R with 2 x SUP6-E's running code 12.2.53SG so the code is very recent. As the SUP6-E's are based on 4900 code I think that may be clue as to why things are not working however the SUP6-E should have full NAC support according to all documentation.
I would just like to add that our 5508 WLC's cannot be added to the CAM either and they are running version 6.0 WLC code. Again very recent code.
I can add 3750 switches fine so I know the configs are correct.
Doing this testing is most frustrating indeed as the NAC products just do not work as they should. I have asked for this to escalated to our SE so we should get a TAC case raised.
Faisal if you could be of any additional assistance this would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Oliver

  • Interface errors (crc, in/output, collisions etc.) via snmp

    Hi,
I'm trying to understand how to get interface errors via SNMP.  I do get stats via SNMP for ifInErrors / ifOutErrors etc, but I'm trying to get output via SNMP for the errors visible via the 'sh int x' command - CRC errors, input / output errors, collisions, runts. giants etc.).
    1) The SNMP ifInError / ifOutError seems to give an overall counter of all errors from the time the device has started - Am I correct about this?
    2) Is there any way I can get the interface-specific errors noted above via SNMP?
    Thanks,
    Mario

Depends on the device and version of code, but most likely you will get what you want from the CISCO-IF-EXTENSION-MIB.  Look at objects like cieIfInRuntsErrs, cieIfInGiantsErrs, and cieIfInFramingErrs.  You will also get some ethernet-specific errors from the ETHERLIKE-MIB.

  • Cat6509 - SNMP OIDs for interface stats

    Hello,
    I have a Catalyst 6509-E-VSS with IOS 12.2(33)SXI3.
I'm looking for OIDs to retrieve the same counters I get with the commands
"show interface stats" and "show interface switching".
I want to graph the number of packets that are process switched.
The OIDs from IF-MIB (  ifInOctets, ...) show only the total number of octets not the
    switching path.
    Thanks for help
    Mike

After a long time silence on this frontier the problem is comming up again.
My goal is still to find out, what interface causes process switched traffic.
There is usualy a lot of traffic handled in software but sometimes (of course on weekend midnight) it seems to increase the cpu load (IP Input process).
Regarding the Cisco document "Troubleshooting High CPU Utilization Due to the IP Input Process" I want to monitor traffic by switching path.
So again - does anybody has an idea to get these counters with snmp ?
    Update: IOS is now 12.2(33)SXJ3

  • Best way to get switch/router interface stats remotely and periodically

    Team:
I am not sure if this is really needed; however, I am looking at methods or solutions that I can get interfaces stats from my switches and routers. Looking for errors: CRC, Frame, Overruns, Collisions, etc; however, I am not sure the best way to do this on my devices.
Currently looking into Expect; however, I do not see away that I can save the output of the ‘show interface’ command to a file, clear the counters, and upload the interface stats to a tftp site. The idea was to use a cron job and ‘grep’ to dig though the files once on my server, but again, I am not sure I can do this.
I am looking for suggestions on how I can do this, or something similar, or even a better solution.
    Thanks
    JJ

    Hi John,
Thanks for the insight. I am currently learning Python, which is slow going, but I am pushing through. This is production, and last Friday I did a router and switch count. It will be over 200 devices distributed globally. In addition, these resources/devices are linked to as many different circuit types. The business is small, and I cannot get the budget for Solarwinds, so I was trying to be creative. I looked into Python, but I am just learning, yet I have started with the Apress ‘Beginning Python’ by Hetland, so the skill set is not there YET.

  • Enabling VM Guest NLB w/Multicast IGMP on 2012 Hyper-V host w/ converged SCVMM fabric switch

    What a mouthful.
    As short as possible:
    WHAT I'M ATTEMPTING:
I'm trying to build a new NLB cluster for a 2008 R2 SP1 Remote Desktop Services farm. And I'm trying to do it the right way, with multicast igmp, not unicast.
The two guest VMs with NLB install converge fine. VIP gets this:
    IP: 192.168.100.157
    MAC: 01-00-5e-7f-64-9d
NLB NIC is on the same VLAN & "Converged switch" in VMM as our mgmt/server traffic (That is to say it's on production VLAN, not on a separate vlan)
    PROBLEM:
Can't ping 100.157. From VM guest itself, from host, or from Cisco 6509 switch.
Cisco show mac address lookup does not see that MAC anywhere
show ip igmp groups shows not igmp traffic at all. Clearing counters show sno multicast increment.
    FURTHERMORE:
    Host is setup thusly:
    - Dell R810
    - 8x1GbE Broadcom 5709c in a Server 2012 LACP/HASH team built via VMM powershell cmdlets
    - On the physical switch side, those 8 nics are in a Cisco port-channel, trunked, all VLANs allowed
    -  Host has no "physical" nics per se, as in a 2008 R2 hyper-v host. Instead Host has these:
Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Live Migrate" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 35
Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "MGMT" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 25
Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "CSV" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 40
    Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "iSCSI #1" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 0
    Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "iSCSI #2" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 0
Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Aux" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 0
Get-VMSwitch outputs this on the converged v-switch:

    Question:
Aside from a few of my favorite MS MVPs (shout out to
WorkingHardInIt for having this same question), I can't find much documentation on employing 2008 R2 NLB on guest VM within a fabric-oriented, VMM-built 2012 Hyper-Visor converged switch (no network virtualization...yet).
Yes I know all about VMM NLB but 1) I'm trying to wedge NLB in after building these VMs without a service template (NLB is the audible, essentially) and 2) MS NLB is configured in providers & I've created requisite VIP templates.
Even so, I ought to be able to create an NLB cluster without VMM's assistance in this scenario correct? Suboptimal, I know but possible, yes? Essentially I've put to synthetic NICs on each VM, set IPs manually, and assigned them to the same vlan. I can ping
each synthetic NIC, but not the cluster IP.
And yes: these particular vNICs have Mac Address Spoofing enabled.
    Cisco:
I have a TAC case open with Cisco, but they can't quite figure it out either. IGMP Snooping enabled across the switch. And they insist that the old static arp entry to resolve this problem is no longer necessary, that Microsoft now complies with relevant
    RFCs
    Possible SOlution:
Only thing I can think of is flipping MulticastForwarding param below from disabled to enabled. Anybody ever tried it on a converged virtual switch on the Hyper visor? Is my virtual converged switch protecting
    me from multicast igmp packets?

Sorry for the poor follow-up Steven. We are using Server 2012 Hyper-V, not VMWare, on the hosts. You can close this but for the benefit of anyone who comes across it:
After working with Cisco, we decided not to implement multicast IGMP. Cisco says you still need to create a static ARP entry on the physical switch, though my cluster IP address & Microsoft NLB 2008 R2 were set up with igmp multicast, not multicast or
    unicast. Here was his email:
Yes, we will need the static mapping for the NLB server in this case because the NLB mac address is multicast and the IP address is unicast. I was under the impression that even the server would be using IGMP but that’s not
the case. We won’t need to do the mapping for the nodes though if they use IGMP. To this end, following is the configuration that should make this work.rp 192.168.100.157
    0100.5e7f.649d arpa
    <u5:p></u5:p>
    mac address-table static 0000.0000.649d vlan <> interface <> disable-snooping
ßThis is the switch interface where the NLB server is located<u5:p></u5:p>
     interface vlan<>
    <u5:p></u5:p>
ip pim sparse-dense-mode     <- This is needed for the switch to elicit IGMP joins from the nodes<u5:p></u5:p>
    end<u5:p></u5:p>
I don't think it got through to him that there was a virtual Layer 2/3 Hyper-V switch on top of 8 teamed GbE interfaces in LACP/hash. "Where the NLB server is located" = 1)a Cisco port-channel bound to one of six physical hosts; the NLB VM itself could be
on any of those port channels at any given time (We have a six node Hyper-V cluster).
Once I enabled pim I did see activity; but we killed this later as we realized we'd have to implement the same on 40+ managed routers globally
Anyway we further would have had to implement this across managed routers at 40 sites globally according to Cisco.

  • No ifIndex table when querying via SNMP

Hello, looking for suggestions before opening up a TAC case.
Just received a Nexus 3000 with NX-OS 6.0(2)U2(1) and when I attempt to walk the ifTable via SNMP the ifIndex table is not present. Walking the ifIndex table itself results in  "IF-MIB::ifIndex = No Such Instance currently exists at this OID". show interface snmp-ifindex is fine and the rest of the ifTable displays properly.
My switch config is just a basic RO community with no ACL's or anything yet. A pair of the same switches with NX-OS 5.0(3)U5(1a) display the table no problem.
Any suggestions, or has anyone else seen this?

  • Incorrect bandwidth values via snmp?

I have two cat 2900 16 port switches, for some reason when i read the bandwidth utiliz. values via snmp (PRTG, and MRTG give same results) i only show a steady 1-1.5 kbps up and down flow with occasianal spikes of the upstream to 2 or 3kbps..this is the same across all ports, now if i send something across the switch, nothing changes, nor is any other traffic i throw at the switch reflected... the peculiar thing is if i access the switch's web interface while conducting a 10.5 mbit transfer across the switch, i will see a spike of correct values (as i read on the hosts machines) reported by the snmp agents but only for 2 or 3 reads across 5 second periods..then its back to what i described again.. I've done factory resets on both and both of these snmp agents correctly read the bandwidht values from my dell and intel switches so i've ruled the agents out..
    any ideas?
    thanks, joe

Thanks for the quick reply but thats not the problem. its not a units issue as i see somekind of traffic but when i'm maxing out the 100mbps port i see no change in the snmp reported graphs..but like i said i will see the actual values if i'm reloading or access the switches web interface.
this is such a weird issue..and its affecting two swithces that are the same model but from different places.
    any ideas?

  • MIBS to Monitor Etherchannel and trunks via SNMP

I would like to monitor the status of etherchannel and trunk configurations in 6500 Catalyst switches running both CATOS and IOS. I would like to understand the specific mibs/OIDS that should be monitored for etherchannels and trunks. I am trying to get a better handle on tracking the etherchannels and trunk dynamically and then understanding when the ports are having issues (up/down and errors). I need to understand how to differentiate these type of ports from regular access ports.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
what exactly do you want to query via SNMP?
For an (PAgP) Etherchannel, the member-interfaces might be interesting:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3957914#3957914
For a trunk, you could start with the operational mode, depending on the platform you can use:
    vlanTrunkPortDynamicStatus (CISCO-VTP-MIB):
    vlanTrunkPortDynamicStatus.49 = notTrunking
    vlanTrunkPortDynamicStatus.50 = trunking
    vlanPortIslOperStatus (CISCO-STACK-MIB):
    vlanPortIslOperStatus.13.43 = notTrunking
    vlanPortIslOperStatus.13.44 = trunking
    Hope that helps
