MDT 2012 - applying unattend.xml with dism.exe is extremely slow
Hello,
The image is completing successfully but it takes forever during the applying unattend.xml with dism.exe stage.
Takes well over ½ or so just for that part. It’s not a fat image just windows.
I redid my task sequence but no change. It used to be fast but now it seems like it hanging during the stage.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
One of the things that DISM does is to apply all the device drivers you specify. Please check the selection profile you have used for the Inject Drivers step and while you are at it check also for the Packages. By default it is set to everything,
if you do as I do and select specific device drivers make sure the selection profile is set to what ever you need or set to nothing if you set the MDT variables DeviceDriversxxx specifically.
Thanks for the reply. I have all of my selection profiles selecting only the drivers for each computer.
This all started after I added the latest Lenovo laptop with the Haswell processors.
I will keep looking.
Thanks

Image deployment Stuck at Applying Unattend.xml with DISM.EXE
Hello All,
I've integrated around 90 Patches into MDT Image of windows Server 2012. so far, only Image and Packages are in Media contents.
When I am deploying Image on a VM- then it is working fine till applying Operating system Image upto (100%)...and gets stuck at Applying Unattend.xml with DISM.exe which is very next step, see screenshot below.
This process is going on for a longer time and after this I am getting below Error and Image is not getting deployed ...
Please advise!!!
Please....In the task sequence folder ([deploymentsharename] -> Control -> [task
id]) do you see an unattend.xml file there? -

Thanks in advanceYup, looks like there are a lot of drivers being added in. Are some duplicates?
Also, if you have a lot of *.msu packages added into the MDT console, I would remove them.

My iMac with Comcast is suddenly extremely slow
Suddenly my imac with comcast internet with apple airport is extremly slow.
This sort of came out of the blue.
I have called Comcast and they said everything on their end seems to check out fine.
Going a bit nuts here. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
Anything I should test?
DougNothing seems to have changed at all Allen.
Still taking *forever* to download images, pages, etc.

While deleting sms in a row one one ios 7 hang up and restart. This is happening in my iphone 4. Ps help. Not happy with update, it is extremely slow. Would request apple to provide an option of restoring it back to ios 6
I'm having same problem with my iPhone 4. Even after restoring twice. Simple tasks casue the phone to lock up and restart, which, thanks to iOS 7 takes much longer than with iOS 6.
I love my phone, but it is almost unsuable after update. -
I've been using MDT 2012 and 2012 update 1 with ADK for Windows 8 successfully for years. This week I decided to uninstall those tools, and install ADK for Windows 8.1 and MDT 2013. I'm running Windows 7 x64. Instead of upgrading the current
deployment share, I created a new share to start fresh.
So, I created a new share, added Windows 7 OS, and created a client deployment task sequence. I modified the unattended.xml to enable telnet client and disable media center. No drivers, no applications, and no packages for this test. Stock, unmodified
task sequence.
Problem:
It works as expected sometimes. But, about 50% of the time, I get this error:

Please help!To be honest, I've never tried to modify the installer packages via unattend.xml. And come to think of it, it appears that the /applyunattend switch may not understand how to install packages (might not know where the sxs folder is located ). What
is confusing to me is how it *does* work 50% of the time.
did you import the *full* sources or just the *.wim file?
Here is a post in the configmgr group which suggests to perform the package management *online*
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/42eb50b6-7059-431c-ae84-2e5753507a90/unattendxml-and-microsoftwindowsfoundationpackage
Keith Garner - keithga.wordpress.com
Thanks for the reply Keith.
I imported the full source, and I'm also not sure why it is not consistent with failure or success either.
To narrow down the problem, I created a reproducible set of steps (for a possible future call to Microsoft support). Those steps are described in this
thread. When following the steps in the thread, the problem appeared every time. I only tried it 6, or so, times though.
The enabling/disabling of features via the unattend.xml is a supported and documented feature. In fact, following the hyperlink in the solution of the thread you mentioned documents the process.

SCCM 2012 OSD - unattended XML problem?
Hi,
I am having an issue with SCCM 2012 SP1 / MDT OSD task sequence. The issue is
with the Apply Operating system step. It applies the OS reboots and boots into
the new OS. We are trying to install Windows 2008 R2.
The first dialog I see is:
"Windows could not parse or process the unattende answer file for pass [specialize].
The settings epcified in the answer file cannot be applied. The
error was detected while processing for component [Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup]"
Then in the black background under the dialog".
"Setup is applying system settings"
-- So I click "OK" the computer reboots..
Then I get
"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encounted an
unexpected error. Windows Installation cannot proceeed. To install
Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the
installation.
The in the black background see:
"Setup is preparing your computer for first use"
If I click on "OK" here it reboots and presents the same dialog again - so it gets stuck and loops
around and does not progress.
Questions
1. So from the "Apply OS step" I can see you can see you can specify a specific "unattended.xml" file.
Is there a log file I can look at that can give me more specific detail on what the exact setting it does
not like in that XML file so I can correct it?
2. If I don't specicy anything how is that XML generated and where would its log file be? I assume the same
as question 1?
3. For question 2 - where can I find the unattended XML on the target OS.
4. Since I am not in PE anymore and F8 does not work is there anyway I can bring up a command prompt?
Thanks,
Ward.1. You'll have to check the Windows setup logs files because at this point, that's what's running.
2. There is a default XML file generated/used.
3. You will only find the file on deployed systems and I think you can traditionally find it under the panther folder.
4. Actually, you can use F8 to launch a command-prompt in the target OS during the TS as long as you enabled it in the boot image. However, as mentioned, you are in Windows setup at this point (which is actually another instance of WinPE) and so F8 doesn't
work here. Shift-F10 should though.

ERROR - NetFx3 role processing with DISM.exe failed, rc = -2146498529
I am deploying Windows 8.1 x64 with update using MDT 2013 and everything works perfectly until the Apply Patches is changed from "Nothing" to my "Windows 8.1 x64 Updates" profile (which contains all the offline updates) is there a particular
patch I should be looking for to eliminate? If I change it back to "Nothing" .NET 3.5 installs fine.
ChrisYou should have something in your bdd.log. If you're in WinPE, it's on your OSDisk under MININT.
Also, I've seen a lot of people recommend not patching through the package functionality. Depending on the patch, stuff like that I usually let Windows Update handle that through our WSUS. The specific feature you're trying to install is a pain in
the *** though. I came up with a workaround for this when building out my Windows 8.1 image. Instead of trying to patch the .NET 3.5 install, I created an application with the command line -
Dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:"Y:\Operating Systems\Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64\sources\sxs" /limitaccess
Your drive letter here will either be Z: if you have no network logging, or Y: if you have network logging enabled.
All this is doing is pointing back to DS Windows 8.1 SXS directory so the install has it's source directory. I'm not sure why they went with this method, and it's also extremely annoying in a Windows Recovery/Reset scenario as this install resides
in an area that will not be captured in the recovery image. Hope this helps.

Deleting VM with snapshot/checkpoint is extremely slow in SCVMM 2012 R2
It appears deleting VM with checkpoint from SCVMM 2012 R2 is extremely slow.
There is the configuration:
one SCVMM 2012 R2 running on Windows Server 2012 R2
one Windows Server 2012 R2 as file share server (SMB), stores all VM files. The share is managed by SCVMM . uses local SSD disk. two gigabit ethernet ports connected to a switch.
two hyper-v hosts running Windows Server 2012 R2, non-clustered, managed by SCVMM, each hosts has three gigabit Ethernet ports connected to the switch.
Everthing works including live migration. Here is the problem:
When I deleted a VM with checkpoint, it appeared that SCVMM/Hyper-V merges something, it took a lot of time on reading each AVHDX and write to VHDX, this results two problems:
1. It took a lot of time and bandwidth. I am about to delete the VM (and all its files). Why SCVMM/Hyper-V wants to merge all files? The deletion took 29 minutes for a 36GB VM. This VM is just plain standalone VM, no usage of template.
The expected result is to just delete all VM files and remove VM, don't do merge. (BTW: VMWare doesn't do merge, the deletion is done in a few seconds))
2. although all data file are on the file share, the hyper-v host still reads each file from file share, then write to another file on the same file share. It consumes significant network bandwidth. Can they offload the work to file server?
The expected result is that Hyper-V offload the transfer to file share server. It should not create huge amount of network io.
3. The merging operation is incredibility slow. around 24MByte/sec data being copied.
The hyper-v has 2xgigabit links, benchmark shows the file share access can easily go 200Mbytes/sec, and the file server side is SSD drive with 200+MByte/sec bandwidth. The expected result is if hyper-v ever merge, the speed is least 100MByte/s and hopefully
go up to 200MByte/sec. 21MB/s is just painfully slow.
Did I miss anything? Thanks for the info. Even there may be use cases where merge is necessary, there are plenty of use cases where merging is overkill -- can Hyper-V have a CLI option that deletes VM without doing merging?
If such option won't be available soon, can SCVMM do this on deleting a VM:
1. revert to the latest checkpoint, delete the checkpoint
2. repeat the step 1 until all checkpoint removed.
3. delete the VM.
This workaround avoids the Hyper-V's merging. It is not as clean as VMWare's (they just delete the VM files, no extra merge), but at least it is much faster and less resource consumption than merging. -
Webfolder access to XML stored in database is extremly slow (XP)
Hello,
I made a webfolder to access my XML-documents stored in the database over explorer. My OS is XP. But the access is extremly slow. When I access the documents from a Windows2000 computer the access is fast. Has anybody an idea what could be the reason for this??
Any help appreciated.
AnnaNone of them go throug the proxy server. Oracle suggests to install some XP-Patches what I have done. Now the webfolder access is normal. It is an XP ServicePack1 - problem.
Thanks.

When connected via LAN works fast and well but via wifi its useless.
I have the intel core I3 and Broadcom 802.11n with the newest drviers.
I have tried everything possible but nowthing helped.
Can you please help me with any solution ?

Hi,
Please see titlte. When I try to apply an CM captured WIM via an MDT task sequence, it starts, applies but stops after 15 minutes.
Logfile says it "cannot find the file specified".
Full error: "Installation of image 3 in package mypackage failed to complete. . The system cannot find the file specified. (Error: 80070002, Source: Windows).
Though the image IS there, redistributed it (if it wouldn't be there the task sequence would not start).
Please advise.
J
Update: could it be the fact I'm using an old (SCCM 2012) MDT wim? If I need to recreate the WIM boot image, where do I get the SCCM 2012 R2 boot wims?

MDT 2012 UNC Deployment Failure with static IP.
I am having trouble getting my UNC deployment to run the State Restore phase. I am operating on a network without DHCP and have successfully connected to the network share and ran the Task Sequence. After the reboot, however, the static ip doesn't get set
and the deployment can't continue.
Upon inspection of the BDD.log I ran across the entry in the State Restore section that pertains to setting the static ip.
WMI Function: Adapter.EnableStatic(IPAddress,SubnetMask) FAILURE: -2147217405 Unknown Error: -2147217405
If I log in and run the LiteTouch.wsf file as an administrator, the task sequence starts running again and the static ip gets applied.
Why is this not happening automatically? The account I'm using does have permissions. I use the same account to join manually after the process is complete. I'm not sure what the purpose of the Temp Account is. I only see it if the process fails. Otherwise, if the process completes, it is not there
when I log in. The Administrator account is disabled by Group Policy but since it never joins the Domain, the Administrator account doesn't get disabled.
There is no ZTIDomainJoin.log
NetSetup.log is as follows:
NetpDomainJoin
NetpMachineValidToJoin

CS4 working with cannon raw (.CR2) extremely slow
Hello,
I am hopeing there is some one that can help me or point me in the right direction. I am useing Photoshop cs4 extended on a windows xp home edition. When I use CS4 to open a raw file from a canon 50D CS4 slows to a crawl, and by crawl I mean it freezes when I try to shift the photo in any direction. It stays frozen for as long as 30 to 45 seconds, then will adjust the photo. If I aply a corection such as brightness useing the adjustment brush. it can take 30 or more seconds before cs4 is ready to do anything. I noticed that it will max out my processor ( pentium 4 3.01 Ghz with hyperthreading ) for the 30 plus seconds it takes to get ready to do anything. I understand that my system is not the best, but I feel it should not be haveing the major problems that it does. I will include some more info to try and help any one that wishes to help. system: windows xp home with all the latest updates. Intel motherboard with intel 3.01 processor with hyperthreading. 2 gigs of PC 2700 ram. windows swap file and CS4 scratch file (cache) are on a second hard drive. 1st hard drive contains aplication files and most of the photos. both hard drives are defragmented on a weekly basis. I keep my system running with just the basic files for the operating system, and when online I only have a firewall running on top of the browser. I have upgraded cs4 with the latest updates. As I mentioned, I know my system is not state of the art, but feel it should do a lot better then it is. CS4 does pretty good when opening large .PSD files and does well with most actions etc. Thanks in advance for any help that is offered : )bibianh wrote:
