MDT and MAK product key

We are using MDT2010 and now MDT2013 for years now. I must make a new deploymentshare for 64 bit Windows 7 but cannot find in my documentation where to put the MAK key in MDT for later activation when Windows 7 is deployed.
I have looked in MDT where i have put the MAK key but cannot find it anywhere, not in custom settings / bootstrap.ini, any task sequence etc.
Searching the Internet the MAk key must be put when importing a operating system into MDt but i have never done that. After deploying Windows 7 to a client i activate the system at once, the MAk product key is somewhere stored, i have done that myself but
do not know where.....
Is there some standard point where i must put the MAK key in MDT, when syprepping and capture  task sequence or in a deployment task sequence or in the customsettings.ini / bootstrap.ini within the capture deployment or deploymentshare?
This is neccessairy because i want to capture and deploy a new Windows 7 but now 64 bit in MDT so the key must be put somewhere..
It can be put in the virtual machine that is goiing to be captured. After installing WIndows in the VM put in the product key, but maybe this key is lost when importing and deploying thru MDT...
It can be somewhere in the sysprep and capture task sequence although i cannot find it
In the deployments task sequence cannot find them here also
Int he rules.ini or bootstrap.ini of the captureshare or deploymentshare but here also not found..

When you sysprep the machine the license will be removed. You can either add it to the unattend file or you can write a script to install the key and force it activate Windows, your choice. The easiest would be to just add the key to the unattend.
I have a script for machines that will be off campus and out of reach of our KMS server. In this example I install the Office MAK and activate it, but as for Windows I just added that key to the unattend. Specialize-->Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup
oShell.Run("cscript " & oENV("ProgramFiles(x86)") & "\Microsoft Office\Office15\ospp.vbs /inpkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX")
oShell.Run("cscript " & oENV("ProgramFiles(x86)") & "\Microsoft Office\Office15\ospp.vbs /act"),0,True

  • After Win update OS is not genuine and my product key is invalid

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba EA60 - 156 equium laptop using the pre-installed software. Suddenly after running auto-updates, windows now thinks its not genuine and my product key is invalid. Having tried to verify online, I was told to contact Toshiba after verifying the key online. Online my copy is genuine, but windows still thinks it isn't.
    What do I do?
    Iain

I heave read that the License Validation from Microsoft could be responsible for such messages.
This tool Microsoft distributes through their Windows Update platform for some time now considers the installed Toshiba factory image to be an illegal Windows XP copy.
I think to avoid of popping up of this message you should remove this license validation tool.
I think the good idea is also to contact the service partner in your country. Maybe they have some detailed information about this issue

  • Thinkpad Yoga - Clean install with Win 8.1 disc and embedded product key

    Hello everyone,
I purchased a Thinkpad Yoga that comes along with Win 8.1 and embedded product key.
Will it be possible to plug-in an external drive and install Win 8.1 from a Win 8.1-disc? BUT I don’t want to use the key that comes with the disc, but the key embedded in the bios.
This is my girlfriends Windows 8.1 disc and license. Nevertheless I could use it for the clean install.
But I'm not sure, if the original key from my Yoga will work then.
    Thanks

I guy on Youtube made a rough tutorial.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI8AnNBIlLQ
    Englisch subtitles available
In the comments he suggests, to download the Iso with anouther win-8.1-key - no matter which one - and to install the system clean. In his opinion the system will get the key from the hardware. He is writing, that there is just a universal iso. So it's no problem to download an iso with another key, even if your system is a Home-Edition and you download it with a Pro-Key.
    I will try this.

  • I ordered Office 2011 with my MBA, but only the trial version came installed - and no product key was ever emailed to me or included in the shipment. Three calls each to Apple and Microsoft have not solved this.

I ordered Microsoft Office 2011 with my Macbook Air, but only the trial version came installed - and no product key for the full version was ever emailed to me or included in the shipment. Three calls each to Apple and Microsoft have not solved this and I am at wit's end. Each company blames it on the other - I don't care whose fault it is, I just want the product key so I can use Microsoft Office!  Please help.

You should have received a DVD in the box (with the MBA).

Call AppleCare (they need to send you a DVD, which has the Product Key printed on the sleeve).

  • Dreamspark Windows 8.1 Pro x86 and x64 Product Key Issue

    Hello people,
I am having trouble with DreamSpark. I have an account from DreamSpark and want to use windows 8.1 pro x64 in my laptop. The problem is that dreamspark gives me only one product key for both x64 and x86 versions of windows 8.1 pro but when I try to install
x64, it asks me to validate x64 via that product key. After typing the key, it gives me an error saying sth "could not validate". However, in the x86 version, it is able to validate. It is annoying because it says  "Microsoft
Windows 8.1 Professional 32/64-bit (English) - DreamSpark - Download" in the title. Does not it mean that the product key below in the page is for both x86 and x64? :S

    Hi,
I agree with Yannick, both x64 and x86 should work fine, but only one is installed at a time,
for example,  before you install the 64bit version, you will need to uninstall the 32bit version, even if it is on another computer.
    You can also run
MGADiag tool - Microsoft to view the detailed Activation Dagnostic Report.

  • Just recovered my dv5 and it says no serial number found and says product key is not valid

DV5-1045TX  Vista 32bit  Can anyone help.
Keeps asking me to avtivate my new product key or
buy one.  This is a genuine HP DV5 laptop I have had for 4 years.

I use the recovery which is on my laptop. Also put my product number in that was on the bottom of my laptop but it still won't recognize it. Weird I have recovered it before a year ago and it was ok but all of a sudden it just won't recognize my windows that is why I recovered it again.

  • How to fresh-install W8.1 on a VM (on Linux) without OEM disks and having product key programmed in UEFI?

I have an ASUS A55 that came with W8 preinstalled (OEM without disks), now upgraded to W8.1. My laptop was a present for me and came from Germany, so I do not have access to the original ASUS retailer (nor any other else, BTW, due to my present location).
Due to my job I am now obliged to have Linux as my base OS, but I am allowed to keep one W8.1 running within VirtualBox (for instance, for when my daughter comes to visit me).
How do I do a fresh install of W8 and keep my purchased license, given that I do not have the disks?
Also, is there a way to access the product key programmed in the UEFI?
    Thanks

  • Product Key not accepted using WAIK.

I am trying to create an unattended install using WAIK. So far it is working well however it will not recognize the activation key that i am adding to the unattend image i have created.   I have activation keys for both KMS and MAK but it will not
accept either of these.  Is there another key i can use that it will accept?

I always download the ISO disk from  the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service and then burn it to a DVD from which i create the images i use.  It is this image that appears to reject either the KMS or the MAK keys that are also copied from this same
    site.
VL media downloaded from VLSC already has the relevant KMSclient product key embedded within.
If you are intending to use KMShost activation, there is no need to specify a product key at all.
The product keys published on VLSC are your (private) KMShost, and MAK, product keys.
The KMSclient product keys are publicly published on TechNet:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612867
The KMShost product key is only to be installed into your KMshost machine, not into your KMSclient machines.

  • My product key in Windows 8.1 doesn't work

This is the email that I sent to Amazon, whom I purchased the program from. I have yet to hear from them. I plan on writing to them again to make sure they actually got the email. If Adobe could help, that would be awesome, but I'm going to cover all my bases. I've already uninstalled it on my old computer and then tried to install it again on the new one and the product key still does not work because it is an old one where there are letters in front of the numbers in the product key.
    Hello,
I just received a new laptop that has Windows 8.1 on it and I can’t install my previous Adobe Photoshop programs with the original product key I was given when I initially purchased it back in September 2012. I can install the programs…I just can’t input the product key I was given upon purchasing it. Please help. I’m really not sure what to do. I can’t afford to buy Adobe Photoshop again, so this will really bite dust if I can no longer use the program on this new laptop because of product key issues. I do a lot with the Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Dreamweaver CS6 programs in regards to creating graphics and layouts and so I really hate the idea of not being able to use those programs anymore simply because I change computers.
Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
    Veronica

I just got a response from Amazon and they referred me to Adobe.

  • Wrong Windows product key during SP2 installation

Hi all, i have reinstalled the windows XP.
When i try to update the SP2 for the system, mircrosoft told me i am not using a right product key.
Then i follow the instructoin to download a KeyUpdate Tool and i put in the product key which under my notebook, it saids it is not the correct key for the windows that i am using.
At the compare product key site, it shows:
    OS Version: Windows XP Professional
    Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
    Model: Satellite M60
    Product Key: *****-*****-*****-*****-P6R2Y
It shows correctly the manufacture and the model.
However, i am using a Windows Xp Home Edition and the key from that CD is end with *****-*****-*****-*****-Q6JWG.
And the product key from my notebook is end up with *****-*****-*****-*****-GCFKM.
Then I download the Windows Product Key Update Tool and put in both the product key from the CD and notebook.
Both of them dosen't work. I want to know how can I update the Service Pack for my windows. Can anyone help? Thx!
What can i do for that? Thx!!!!!

    Hi
I have read some threads about similar problems with the OS key and the key changing has always helped
Sometimes Microsoft rates the image keys as incorrect or invalid. Why? I don't know... it's Microsoft you know ;)
Fact is that the key on the CD cover can be used only to activate the installed Microsoft Works or OneNote software on the notebook. The key is not responsible for the Windows OS!
The key which could be used with Win OS is placed at the bottom of the unit.
Well, according to your message you used this key and now Im a little bit confused
I think you should make a call to the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country for clearing this problem

  • Same Windows XP product key on two machines

    Hello,
I have a question regarding the Windows XP product key.
I have two Thinkpad T23. The first one came with a product recovery CD (Windows XP Pro) and it works without problem. However, the second T23 I just bought didn't come with preinstalled operationg system. After checking on Lenovo website with the machine type number it shows me that my second T23 is a model that equipped with Windows XP Pro. So I used the productrecovery CD from my first T23 to restore the second T23 to factory setting.
Now that both T23 are running Windows XP Pro I check the WIndows XP product key and the product keys from both T23 are exactly the same! Is this normal? Would this harm the Windows Xp license on my first T23?
I did this because I thought that each Thinkpad with OEM license has the Windows product key embedded somewhere in the hardware and that the product recovery CD would take such information from the system. But now that both machines have the same product keys I'm confused.
    Anyone knows about this issue?
    Thanks  in advance.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Wow, this is a very quick reply!!
So the same product keys shouldn't harm my machines then? For example, when I try to install some upgrades from Microsoft website and there is this little software (which I forgot its name) that will check if my Windows is a genuine copy or not and I was just thinking that having same product keys could somehow break this "genuine copy" thing...
I just want to make sure that this is not a problem or illigal to do. Nobody wants to have a problem with the Microsoft I guess

  • Recovery - Product Key unreadable

I have a Satellite A505-S6960 whose hard drive failed.  Got new HD.  I don't have recovery media and the Product key on bottom of laptop is unreadable.  Is it worth it to get recovery media if I can't read the product key?  I assume product key is needed during recovery, is that a correct assumption?
    Thanks,
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Old thread but lots of interest to new product owners.
This seems to be the generic response to questions about doing a "clean install".
In the previous question, it was stated the HD was trashed, and no Toshiba back up was available.
It's rather pointless to point out something that is irreverent to the question.
Here's the deal, new owners. When the HD gets trashed, and you attempt to install another legal windows copy, the OEM product number will do you no good. Even in doing a Toshiba back up, the product will not be reloaded registered, and you will be without a means to register your back up reinstall.
Hope that you purchased an extended warranty. It will go something like this over the phone. They will step you through the back up process. You will tell the person no back up image is available, and they will provide a service number, send you a box, and you will send you're new computer in to have the OS reinstalled.
Now one would think during service, since the Toshiba recovery disk does not cost (aside shipping $29.00), they the process would be well thought out enough to include the "Free" copy when returning the unit.
This isn't just with this brand. Most all manufactures do business this way now.
Not a happy customer, especially when direct questions are posted wanting information on how to activate Windows after  clean install go unanswered, other than to say "you don't need one".
IF any of this is in error, please provide information as to what product number to enter when reinstalling Windows 7. Make sure it's one that is acceptable to MicrosoFt as they won't activate the product number supplied on the bottom of your brand spanking new laptop.

  • Office 2013: can't retrieve the Product Key via Belarc Advisor

    Hi,
Isn't it possible anymore to retrieve the Office Product Key installed on a computer via third party inventory software such as Belarc Advisor? I used to do that to see the Microsoft Office Product Key installed on a computer for previous Office versions.
However, I tried with a computer where Office 2013 Home and Business is installed and Belarc Advisor didn't show its Product Key. Is it due to the new license management that consists of linking it to a Microsoft account and only entering the account credentials
during the installation process instead of the Product Key? Isn't the Product Key stored somewhere on the computer anymore?

    Hi,
Thanks for your answer although it's a typical half useless reply from an official Microsoft staff...
Actually, I understand that Microsoft doesn't support third party software to retrieve a product key but my question was rather technical and driven by curiosity rather by the need of retrieving the product key. Indeed, I took over a computer park in a company
and I'm performing an IT inventory. During this inventory, I retrieve Windows and Office Product Key. The licenses are genuine but since I'm not the one who purchased and installed these computer, I don't know them. Therefore, a simple solution is to use inventory
software such as Belarc Advisor. But I noticed that it can't retrieve Office 2013 Product Key anymore whereas it was able with previous versions of Office.
So to reformulate the question: isn't the Product Key stored somewhere locally on the computer anymore with Office 2013? Because if no, that would explain why third party software can't retrieve it anymore.
My question is rather technical about the new way of managing Product Key with Office 2013 and driven by curiosity. So I don't need any official technical assistance.
    Thanks

  • I lost my product key!!!

Hey there, I opened my CS3 box today, and my product key is GONE!
Does anyone know how I can get it back, without calling?
Photoshop Cs3 version 10.0.1 and I'm with windows Vista home premium.

If you registered it, you might be able to get it online.
Log into Adobe.com, Click on Your Account, then on the next page click
    on View Product Registrations.
