MDT Capture User State for Outlook .pst

Dear All,
I've a working MDT 2010 on a Server 2008 R2 in my environment. All deployment works, I would like to find a way to reimage current user PCs unattended but only backup the .pst file and restore after the image. Advice to the right direction is much appreciated.
Image and Applications deploys fine.
Regards,
Omar

You might get better traction on this specific issue with the USMT forums.  What MDT is doing with USMT is just a wrapper.

Can I retain the user files/data for a specific time as a copy after capturing user states then restoring them? If so what's the procedure and location of the files?

If you are using a SMP, yes, this is built-in functionality. The files are located in the location(s) specified on your SMP configuration. You'll also need the computer association that created them because it contains the encryption key.

  • How to capture user input for customer exit processing?

I need to calculate the number of working days elapsed in the current fiscal quarter BASED on the USER INPUT on the reporting front.  i.e., say the fiscal quarter started on 1 July 2005 and if the user enters 10 July 2005, I should get the value 8 (Assume that Monday through Friday are all workdays).  If the user enters 12 July 2005, I should get 10.  I have written customer exits and know how to use factory calendar, but <b>THE CHALLENGE</b> is how do I <b>CAPTURE</b> the user input and use it in my exit?  During the varible definition, if I select the check box "Ready for input" then the customer exit is not being processed and unless I check that box I can't get a user entry!  If I look at the import values in the customer exit, I see i_t_var_range with type rrs0_t_var_range.  My strong feeling is that this parameter gets the user input, but I am unable to use it as the customer exit is not being called if I make the user to input the data.  Based on the empirical evidence, I felt that user input and customer exit can not co-exist!!  Please somebody prove me wrong and let me know how can I use the user input to process my "customer-exit" variable.  I would really appreciate any input from the BW community here.

    Hi Sameer,
Most likely, I'm missing something, but I think that the answer is very simple.
    CASE I_VNAM.
    WHEN 'YOUR_CUSTOMER_EXIT_VAR'.
IF I_STEP = 2. “ After selecting of input variable
    LOOP AT I_T_VAR_RANGE INTO LOC_VAR_RANGE
    WHERE VNAM = 'USER_INPUT_VAR'.
    CLEAR L_S_RANGE.
    L_S_RANGE-LOW = LOC_VAR_RANGE-LOW(4).
    APPEND L_S_RANGE TO E_T_RANGE.
    ENDLOOP.
    ENDIF.
    ENDCASE.
In this typical user exit coding you have a user entered value in LOC_VAR_RANGE (originally in I_T_VAR_RANGE) and you construct your user exit variable value in E_T_RANGE.

  • Windows Users Joined to OD Missing Outlook.pst

    Hi there,
We have a fairly new Mac Mini server that has been running smoothly for a couple months now. There are only two Windows machines joined to OD - everyone else runs a Mac. For whatever reason, within the past week these two Windows users had their Outlook.pst files mysteriously disappear. Any ideas what could be causing it?
I wanted to disable roaming profiles for both these machines so I was told to set the profile directory to C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile. There is a screenshot of my config below. Could this be what's causing it?

More precisely, Microsoft does not *support* storing .psts on any remote
filesystem, including their own. A bit stronger than "don't recommend".

eesh, even worse than Novell's archive support for GW. (at least it's supported in certain cases)
However, MS supports .PST in ONE Specific case (and it's a real doozie):
Outlook 2010 hosted remotely by using Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) or Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) configuration
Network access of .pst and .ost files is a supported scenario in Outlook 2010 if all the following conditions are true:
A high bandwidth/low latency network connection is used.
There is single client access per file (one Outlook client per .pst).
Either Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) or Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is used to run Outlook remotely.
Network scalability guidance that is specific to this configuration can be found in the "Cached Exchange Mode in a Remote Desktop Session Host environment: planning considerations (Outlook 2010)" white paper. Although this document specifically refers to Exchange Cached Mode, the scalability metrics should also apply to other Outlook configurations, assuming the criteria that are mentioned in the preceding list are met. • Win XP to Win 7 - Using OSD - Capturing User data from Profiles

    Hi All,
I'm having a few issues with capturing users profiles using USMT moving from Windows XP to Windows 7 as part of a task sequence - we use a SMP to save the data but strangely it wont apply the data on Apply state store. The OS deployment works fine but saving
user's data and moving it too new PC doesnt seem to apply. I am using Stock requests for the task sequence Find user state storage capture user state etc and like wise at the end apply user state and release user state but doesnt seem to work. Are there any
variables that need to be added to get this working or am i missing something stupid? We do use same PC to image and have mentioned about hardlinking but powers that be want to use SMP. How would this work also if when using Computer association(due to the
Windows 7 pc not being setup yet)?
Apologies if im missing something simple

You are doing what is called a "refresh" OSD scenario...refreshing the OS on the computer while maintaining user state. SCCM automatically creates a computer association in that instance. If an existing Replace (Old to New) computer association
does not already exist, then it will create a Refresh Computer Association to allow the user state to be restored to the same computer. You wouldn't need to do anything special.
The key is that you need to have your task sequence be capable of both capturing the user state at the beginning of the task sequence, then laying down the new OS, then doing the restore of the user state...all within the same task sequence.
If you utilize the MDT integration with SCCM and build an MDT integrated task sequence, this functionality is already built in. Although for simple testing purposes to show the concept, you can simply add to your existing task sequence.
Your task sequence would need to include the following major sections:
Capture user state (including the request/release state store tasks)
Lay down the OS (essentially the components of your regular bare metal imaging task sequence)
Restore user state (including the request/release state store tasks)

  • SCCM 2012 r2 Deploy USMT Don´t Restore User State

    Hi everybody
I am migrating my computers from Win Xp to Windows 8.1,
with SCCM 2012 R2 with HardLink, my problem is that USMT does not restore the user state on all my computers, it does in some and not in others. the only difenrecia between the teams is the computer model and brand (Hp and Dell).
I use USMT 5.0 to capture the user state running on Xp and restored with USMT 6.3 for Win 8.1 (Now run the hotfix from Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2910552 and it´s work )
Also try SMP, capture user state ... but not restores either ...
Anyone have any idea what might be happening

  • Local User State Location

I have recently began testing an in-place Workstation reimage. I have set my task sequence to capture user state with the OSDStateStorePath set to %SystemDrive%\UserState. I also have applied updates to my OS Image.
When deploying my reimage, the updates failed. This caused the User State to not be Restored. Is there any possible way to get that User State back now that the machine has been reimaged? I have searched the c:\ for UserState but it is not there.

You should set OSDStateStorePath to _SMSTSUserStatePath
instead. That folder will be kept during applying the image.
Note: You will also see that this variable is used by default when creating a standard install task sequence and select to store the data local by using links.

  • User State Migration Data Capture Failure MDT 2012 Update 1

    Hello All
Trying to capture data on a Win7 x64 machine so that I can keep the data and restore once the computer is done re-imaging.  This is an offline MDT deployment on the same computer.  See the error below:
CNAME loop detected. (Error: 000025EB; Source: Windows)
    Using MDT 2012 Update 1

Lots of good information out there.  Even stuff that says it's for MDT 2010 also applies to MDT 2012 Update 1 for the most part.  Here's a few to get you started:
    http://deployment.xtremeconsulting.com/2009/11/20/understanding-usmt-with-mdt-2010/
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/jj127984.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/mniehaus/archive/2009/07/01/mdt-2010-new-feature-12-usmt-4-0-hardlink-support.aspx
    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/3758-usmt-mdt/
http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/MMS/2013/DC-B301 (great video with Johan presenting, focused on USMT 5.0)
You should create a default Standard Client Task Sequence and look at the State Capture and State Restore groups to see what MDT sets up for you by default that you may have removed from your current Task Sequence.  But the direct answer to your question,
is that ScanState (part of USMT) is the part that creates a backup.  LoadState is the piece that restores it to a machine.

  • Listing executed statements for a user

    Hi All,
I use Oracle 11gR2. For debugging an application I cannot modify, I need to list all statements of a given user in a time period, say last 3 minutes or from 11:23-11:26. Per session observation is not appropriate, because I don't know when and how many sessions are opened. I would need all of them, and preferably in order of arrival or execution or similar.
thank you in advance, best regards: Balázs Bámer

Oracle does not maintain a user or session SQL history but you can look at v$open_cursor for the sid in question to find additional SQL statements issued by the session. 100% of the SQL will not be present since some cursors could be closed and discarded due to load and time since use.
You can use the log miner feature to scan for DML statements that were issued by the session in question.
If you need to know what a specific user does you might want to set up Oracle built-in audit feature. There are numerous options including capturing SELECT statements or just listing the objects touched.

  • MDT 2012 - Failure 9701: Unable to find any version of USMT, unable to perform user state migration. Failed to run the action Restore User State. DNS Record does not exist. (Error: 000025E5; Source: Windows)

I am having trouble trying to capture a new Windows 8 image with WDT 2012.
    My Setup -
    Server 2012
    WDS
    MDT 2012
    Windows 8 ADK
    Hyper-V
I have created a new task and I can get the image to successfully deploy the image to a VM but it seems to fail at the Restore User State task.
Once the install Applications task has finished I added a Suspend task so I could customize the image a little. Upon resuming the task sequence is where the above failure message appears. I can see it gets to the next step (which is 'Restore User State')
but that seems to be where is crashes.
Does anyone have any advice on what I might be doing wrong or what I can do to resolve the above issue?

WAIK being installed was probably your issue so I wouldn't bother disabling the restore task. It is used to migrate user data, docs, and settings on refreshes, not new builds. It doesn't affect CopyProfile, just note that data will be migrated on refreshes so
some aspects may change, ie wallpaper, shortcuts, etc but what gets migrated with USMT can also be configured.

    Running OS X 10.8.4 with Server 2.2.1.
Any thoughts on what I need to do to make OSX Server mail play nice with Outlook over the submission port?
    Thanks in advance!!

Ok - so I think I have it almost all sussed. So for all 3 of you who might be reading this, here is what is going on.
    1) As I expected, this has nothing to do with the FQDN/Outlook problem. I actually rejoiced when I finally got far enough to have that problem with my Outlook 2007 and 2010 clients. And I don't like the recommended fix for that either. There is another way - more on that in a minute.
    2) This problem was all about authentication methods. At present, I have OS X Mail Server set for plain text and APOP only. I will be working to fix this soon - but at present I am unable to find any other combination that permits both Mac Mail and Outlook clients to authenticate properly. Mac Mail wants to use CRAM-MD5 by default. Outlook is so incompatible with CRAM-MD5 that even when there are other authentication methods available on the mail server, if CRAM-MD5 is selected on the Server then Outlook fails miserably no matter how you configure the Outlook client. Caveat: this is my own observation and I still have some experimenting to do. If you know otherwise (or can confirm more definitively), then please speak up!
So here is the working configuration at present:
       A) Mail Server authentication set to Custom with PlainText and APOP selected, all others blank.
       B) Firewall permits inbound from ports 25 (for mail from "outside"), 587 (submission for authenticated users, TLS) 993 (SSL IMAP), and 995 (SSL POP).
       C) Mac POP Clients:
          i) For retrieval (POP) In advanced settings, use Port 995, Check "Use SSL", Select APOP for authentication.
ii) For submission (SMTP) : Set port 587 (only), Set Authentication to "Password"
        D) Outlook 2007,2010,2013 clients
           i) For retrieval (POP), Set "Require secure logon using SPA"
ii) In "More Settings/Outgoing Server" set it to require authentication with same credentials as inbound
         iii) In "More Settings/Advanced"
             a) Turn on Encryption for the POP3, this should change the port to 995 automatically. If it does not, fix that too.
             b) Set outgoing server to 587
             c) Set TLS for the encryption type (nothing else will work here)
Once you do 2.A, 2.B, 2.D, you will THEN, finally encounter the FQDN problem.
    3) So Apple and a lot of folks here in the forums resolve the FQDN problem by removing one of the restrictions:
Remove "reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname" from "smtpd_helo_restrictions" in your postfix main.cf file.
I have at least 2 problems with this:
       A) It removes yet another little bit of security from the setup
       B) It involves non-GUI changes to the config...which is dangerous if you use the GUI, as changes within the GUI will often result in overwrites to your changes outside the GUI. So you can easily lose this fix without being aware of it until one of your Outlook users starts screaming.
The problem is really with Outlook and Windows not sending the FQDN in the first place. So how about we force them to do that instead? It turns out not to be too hard. I found a thread somewhere that goes into this and it works. Further, the solution remains on through reboots AND also can be made part of an automated deployment of a standard config. The only gotcha is you have to edit the registry...so you have to be careful. You only need to do this ONCE though, and the two entries are easy to find.
      C) Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/Tcpip/Parameters
           i) Set Hostname to the FQDN of your host (replace HOST with HOST.domain.com - or .net, or whatever)
ii) Set NV Hostname to the FQDN of your host
iii) Close Regedit and Reboot to have the changes take effect
Once you do this, the FQDN problem for Outlook users goes away.
