Mdt integration boot image and SCCM boot image

I created a MDT task sequence in SCCM and went through all the steps for setting up the toolkit and settings and boot image. After all that, I distributed everything to my DP. When i try to boot to pxe and run that new MDT task sequence it finds the pxe
server, but just sits at "Contacting server" for some time until it times out. If I select the SCCM boot image in the task sequence properties then it works. the one created when i create the task sequence doesn't.
Any Idea?

Sounds like you didn't enable the boot image for PXE. This is a checkbox at the bottom of the Data Source page in the properties of the boot image.
Have you reviewed smspxe.log?

  • Partial integration of WSUS and SCCM SP1

    Hi,
We have an environment with a CAS and nine primary sites. The primary sites are geographically located in different countries. Each country currently manages it's own external WSUS environment, downloading their relevant language packs, etc. Group policy
is applied at a country level to direct clients to the WSUS server.
We would like to install the SUP on our local primary site. I am aware that to do so I need to install the SUP (with WSUS) on the CAS before the role is available on my primary site.
Can anyone confirm the impact of this on the other countries? If they do not install the SUP on their local primary site servers, then I would assume that the external, standalone WSUS infrastructure will continue to operate without issue independent of
    SCCM?
My understanding is that there should be no impact, but I need some documentation to support this. If anyone has any links I would appreciate it.

You won't find any documentation because it's not exactly a supported path but it will work and no else will be impacted. This has nothing to do with a possible conflict though as none is really possible because a stand-alone WSUS infrastructure is
completely independent of the WSUS instances stood-up for ConfigMgr and they won't even know about each other.
Ultimately, the clients will use whatever WSUS infrastructure that group policy points them to -- ConfigMgr doesn't do anything to get in the way of this even if they stand up a SUP in their primary site. without a SUP in their primary site though, the clients
won't even enable their software updates client so there's no overlap whatsoever. As long as the GPO is in place though, it will override anything in ConfigMgr as far as WSUS goes.
Note however though that if someone else wants to start using Software Updates in ConfigMgr in the future, you may run into issues because at that point you *must* share the same update catalog (remember that when integrated into ConfigMgr, WSUS is only
responsible for the update catalog and not updates).
As a side comment, I hope you didn't pay whoever recommended 9 primary sites very much because they robbed you (unless of course you actually have like 500,000 managed clients).

  • Cost of Intune and SCCM 2012 r2 vs SCCM 2012 r2 ICBM

Is there any research/info on pros and cons of SCCM 2012 using intune for internet clinet management vs SCCM 2012 r2 and ICBM?  Things like cost, supportabiliy, etc.  I have seen intune vs sccm not Intune & SCCM vs SCCM and Internet Client
    Based Management.
    Cyndy

    Hi,
I think the reason is that you cannot manage Windows clients using the WIndows Intune Agent and integrate it with SCCM 2012. The integration with Intune and SCCM 2012 is for Mobile Device Management only so there is no possibility to install the Windows
Intune Agent on a client and then manage it through the SCCM Admin Console.
THe only scenario where that would work is if you manage a Windows 8.1 with the OMA-DM agent and enroll them in Intune as a mobile device with a limited set of features.
So ICBM is still the way to go if you need all the features in SCCM or you want one console to rule them all.

  • MDT deploying boot files to wrong drive

We are experiencing a intermittent problem when deploying to hardware using media since upgrading to MDT 2013. Periodically when techs attempt to apply a image litetouch boots, runs through the initial steps, gets all the way past applying the image/applying
unattended, then reboots. The problem is when the machine reboots instead of booting into Windows and finishing configuration we get a black screen that states "An
operating system wasn't found.  Try removing drives that don't contain an operating system". After going through logs and looking further into this it appears MDT is putting the image on the correct internal drive but from some reason the actual
boot folder is overwriting MDT's boot folder on our external media. Also the MININT and _SMSTaskSequence files are being put on the external media instead of C: (I'm not sure if that is normal behavioror not).
Here is my smsts.log if it's any help. If there are any other logs I should include please let me know.
    smsts.log

No we always use USB hard drives. So far the only possible connection I've found is our 1 TB external drives seem to be having trouble. The ones we have that are smaller seem fine. Also even with the 1 TB drives it's not a constant. The drive may do 4-5
computers no problem, then on number 6 it just breaks.
The only thing we changed in our process was the upgrade to MDT2013, everything was fine while we were on 2012. I know flash drives are the preferred method for deployment, and we will make the switch if we have to. We would prefer to stick with the HDD's
however because it gives us room to keep other boot utilities, tools, and perform data backups as well as image all on one drive.

  • Running Vbscript from MDT integrated SCCM Task sequence

    Hi All,
we have got MDT integrated SCCM 2007 R3 environment where I am unable to execute moveou.vbs from %scriptroot% folder. The task finishes without any error though computer object is unable to move.
    steps what I followed:
placed MoveOU.vbs into MDT toolkit package (ref :- http://blog.coretech.dk/jgs/vbscript-move-computer-object-to-another-ou-via-command-line-parameter/)
added ST task "run command line" after "use toolkit package"
At the time of OSD, script is exist in "_SMSTaskSequence\WDpackage\Scripts".
I know for many of you this will be really easy but as being a newbie I am struggling for quite a sometime now.
    Thanks in-advance.

Have you reviewed smsts.log to verify that the task is completing successfully?
There's no need to prefix it with cmd.exe either, cscript is an executable that you can run just fine outside of the command-shell. Also, is there a specific reason that you disabling 64-bit redirection?

  • Driver issues with HP Z440 and SCCM 2012 R2?

Greetings, we received our first charges of Z440 workstations last week. We immediately downloaded the HP Z440 driverpack from http://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HP_Driverpack_Matrix_x64.html and imported those into our System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2. Of course we did use the Win 8.1 drivers to inject into our boot image and wie normally imported the Windows 7 drivers for the Windows 7 deployment.Well, unfortunately SCCM WinPE5 does not show any drives installed, even with the correct drivers installed. We even tried to import  the WinPE 5 driver pack and the drivers from SoftPaq download manager, but none of those seemed to work. Is there any known issues with Z440s drivers and SCCM? Please help me out on this, it's pretty urgent. Thank you & kind regards

  • Is it a Bug? Integration between Dreamweaver and Fireworks is broken in somewhere?

I can not upload images related my topic here but you can see

I use CS3 Suite. It is a big trouble for me in working on
real pages. Integration is broken in somewhere else and after that
point it becomes impossible to work on Fireworks through
    Dreamweaver.
I've made test to show this trouble and I narrowed the
problem to the pictures as shown in the figures below,
    1) In figure one I am creating a completely new Fireworks
file as arrow.png with two frames and one slice in it. After I am
saving it as .png I am exporting it as .html with images in /images
    subfolder.
    2) After saving and closing the file in Fireworks, in figure
two, I am opening the html in Dreamweaver and changing the page
properties by writing zeros to page margins and by changing the
    default font.
-----I guess in this point something happens which breaks the
    integration between FW and DW--------because;
    3) In figure three I am opening the .png through Dreamweaver
(by "Edit") and changes the place and size of the slice a little
    bit
    4) When I press Done in Fireworks I see this picture in
figure four in Dreamweaver which shows integration between FW and
DW about table structure is broken. (In this point if I add any
behaviur to the slice DW doesn't recognize it, or any other change
in FW can not be recognized by DW)
    5) In order to show this broken integration in table
sturucture, I am putting a new slice to png when Editing from DW in
    FW.
    6) When I click on Done in DW I see this picture on the
figure six. Beacuse FW doesn't have any effect on html's table
    structure code.

I can reproduce your results, but I don't consider this a
    bug; just a
    limitation of Roundtrip editing.
You can't add or change slices without re-exporting the html
    from
Fireworks. Roundtrip is for image editing, not for altering
    the table
structure. If I edit, and re-export, my table remains intact.
If you want to edit the slices and resulting html, open the
    PNG file
independently of Dreamweaver, change your slices and images
    and then
choose File > Update HTML (this option is not available
    when in
Roundtrip mode). FW will ask you to locate the html file.
    When located,
you will have the options of
Replace Images and Their HTML - replaces the previous
    Fireworks HTML.
Update Images Only - overwrites only the images.
As an aside, the rigid table created by FW is rarely
    desirable for a
    production web site.

  • MDT 2012 measuring amount and deployment time

I'm on beginning of MDT's Adventure. For our Client we have to prepare in a monthly basis image load reports that contain amount of images deployed in requested period of time with information how many each OS installation took time. If it's possible to
collect those information from MDT 2012/WDS logs and if it is possible to automation of preparation image load report process.

You could always do a .count of your logging directory on the MDT DS.  The other option would be a Powershell script that runs at the end of the deployment.  It could be something as simple as --
    #TS Variables
    $tsenv = New-Object -COMObject Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment
    $scriptroot = $tsenv.Value("Scriptroot")
    #Machine Log Path
    $machineLog = machinelog.txt
    #WMI Variables
    $os = get-wmiobject win32_operatingsystem
    $computer = get-wmiboject win32_computersystem
    #VALIDATE MACHINE LOG EXISTS.
    if (!(test-path $scriptroot\$machinelog)){
    new-item -path $scriptroot\$machinelog}
    #ADD CONTENT TO MACHINE LOG.
    add-content -path $scriptroot\$machinelog -value "Machine built - $(Get-Date) - Machine Name : $computer.name OS : $os.version"
    #DONE
    exit 0
This is really basic but you get the idea.  Have it shoot data to a file.  Usually you would want this into an xls file, but that takes a bit more work.  I take no responsibility for this script and it has not been tested, it's more to give
you the idea of the construct for what you would need.  Good luck.

  • Reimaging Computers and SCCM sending duplicate updates

We image computers with Ghost and use the same computer name they originally had on the network once they are imaged.
The intent of the latest image is to be fully updated to this point before it is pushed (Via Ghost) to the computers.
We fully updated the image and pushed it out to a few test PC's and we are using computer names that are already on the Domain and in SCCM.
The problem is SCCM thinks that our imaged computers need updates.
I believe these updates are ones that the computers didnt get before they were imaged, as like I said the image should have all the updates.
We want to assure that the images are updated and SCCM isnt pushing duplicates to the boxes.
My guess is that SCCM believes it is talking to the old system vs the new one with the updates.
Does anyone have any insight on how to fix this.
    Thank you in advance.
    MILADMIN

The problem is SCCM thinks that our imaged computers need updates.
This is really a question for the Configuration Manager Software Updates forum..
but why do YOU think that a NEWLY IMAGED system would not need updates?
I believe these updates are ones that the computers didnt get before they were imaged
I'm intensely inclined to concur. Unless you made that image since Tuesday, August 13th, it's *impossible* that the image would be fully patched! Ergo any system built from that image is, by definition, NOT fully patched and WILL need more patches.
We want to assure that the images are updated and SCCM isnt pushing duplicates to the boxes.
Whether the images are updated or not has absolutely nothing to do with Software Updates.
As for duplicate patches.. for almost 20 years Windows Update and it's associated enterprise products, all based on the Windows Update Agent, have successfully patched systems without sending duplicate updates to a client -- not ONCE! Why would you be concerned
that an architecture that's existed for over a dozen years might suddenly screw your environment up when it hasn't done so in the previous dozen years? :-)
My guess is that SCCM believes it is talking to the old system vs the new one with the updates.
I think you're overthinking the situation. Your guess is totally inaccurate. A *NEW* system has a *NEW* identifier (GUID), and it's impossible to confuse a newly imaged system with a previously existing system.
The *OLD* system, at worse, is orphaned in Configuration Manager and needs to be deleted.
Does anyone have any insight on how to fix this.
So your assumption is that it's broken???

Is it simply a matter of adding these to /etc/group?

  • MSI Package Software Installations and uninstallations by group policy and sccm

    Hi,
I have a domain comprising approx. 30 ADCs, 5000 clients and 50 OUs. Our developers have created a c# Program for fetching some information from client machines and displaying them on their
screen on bootup (presence of 2 particular softwares, antivirus presence and its update date, OS patches updation etc... ). This program(.msi) and .net framework 4.0 is required to be pushed to all client machines. We have SCCM server through which we can
push software to be installed on clients. There are no. of ADCs for controlling different sites and OUs. Now I need to push this msi and .net framework to all clients. Dotnet  framework I pushed from SCCM & it is successful.
Till today I have pushed this .MSI package using Group policy software installation settings using a local sharepath & sysvol.
In Local Share path , MSI source is availbale at only one ADC and all clients  contact this adc only to install software and its taking very long time to boot.
Using Sysvol share path , MSI Source is available at All ADC and All Clients Contact their Site's ADC to install software.Only Win 7, win 8 machines are getting install and software is  not able to install on XP and vista machine. What might be the
problem for xp machine getting it from sysvol path?
The error for XP machines is that Sysvol path is not accessible/ source is not available.
Now I need to have some other fullproof method to apply it. How I need to push this .MSI packages to all sites (ADCs) in my child domain from my PDC.
I want to know the steps & methods for installing & uninstalling this .MSI package using Group policy and SCCM as well.
       Thanks for replying...

    Hi,
Based on your description, I want to confirm whether we have more than one domain. If we have more than domain, it is suggested that we can push the
    MSI package from each domain.
Regarding how to use Group Policy to remotely install software, the following article can be referred to for more information.

In addition, you also mentioned how to use SCCM to do this, in order to get better assistance, we can ask help in the following SCCM forum.

  • Clarification needed - Intune and SCCM side by side

    Hi Forum
I need some clarification on how the Intune and SCCM client will react when on the same workstation. non-integrated.
Will it refuse install? I know its not ideal, I just need to know.
Say I managed Endpoint in Intune and Updates in SCCM. Is this even possible?
    Thanks in advance
    NN

It shouldn't be used like that, either use the hybrid configuration, of Intune integrated with ConfigMgr, or use them stand-alone.
Also, just for testing purpose, I just tried to install the Intune agent on a machine with the ConfigMgr client installed and the installation failed with an error message stating that the ConfigMgr client should be uninstalled first.
