MDT - Using TaskSequenceID with Desktop-True or Laptop-True

I have now modified this to the following.
I am having an issue with MDT TaskSequenceID with Desktop-True or Laptop-True.
Scope: Three TaskSequenceID e.g. [WIN7x86], [WIN7x64], [WINXPx86] to contain all settings but use [Desktop-True] to apply a workstation to a Desktop OU or [Laptop-True] to a Laptop OU (exempt [WINXPx86] which contains the OU information within its own TS).
If the OU is specified directly under the TS [WIN7] everything works fine so the user account/password and path are correct. I can see MDT is pulling the correct TS as well.
When I add into the mix the following the system will not attach to the domain..
[WIN7x86]
SkipDomainMembership=YES
NetworkLocation=Work
JoinDomain=removed
DomainAdmin=svc_mdtjoin
DomainAdminPassword=removed
[ByDesktop]
Subsection=Desktop-%IsDesktop%
[ByLaptop]
Subsection=Laptop-%IsLaptop%
[Desktop-True]
MachineObjectOU=ou=Desktops,ou=Windows7,DC=removed,DC=uk
[Laptop-True]
MachineObjectOU=ou=Laptops,ou=Windows7,DC=removed,DC=uk
The BDD.log shows it see the workstation (Dell OptiPlex 7010 as a Desktop).
The ZTIDomainJoin.log is showing it is ‘attempting’ to add to the correct OU as well.
Initial attempt: JoinDomain(,PWD,\,ou=Desktops,ou=Windows7,DC=removed,DC=uk,3), rc = 2
The system is not anywhere in Active Directory.
I can log onto AD Users and Computers as svc_mdtjoin and add the computer manually.
My settings at the start are:
[Settings]
Priority=TaskSequenceID,ByLaptop,ByDesktop,DefaultGateway,Model,Default
Properties=MyCustomProperty
Any ideas??
Thanks.”

Hi All,
Massivesystem the idea made me think and digged through the logs again. - Thanks!
OK, I solved the [Desktop-True] problem I was having.
It was down to me (user error).
Previous: ou=Desktops,ou=Windows7,DC=removed,DC=uk,3
Actual: ou=Desktops,ou=Windows 7,DC=removed,DC=uk,3 - see space between Windows 7.
There is one outstanding issue.
Appears my initial thought below was incorrect:
"This week I was requested to build a fresh XP image [WINXPx86] as an interim measure which should be deployed to OU1 irrelevant if a Desktop or Laptop.
For this task sequence I have added the machine to add to 'OU 1' and works."
Any machine within TS [WINXPx86] should go in a container specified - NOT Desktop or Laptop.
When [WINXPx86] runs it uses the ByDesktop or ByLaptop query and places in that OU. Can I work around this?
\\Automate the joining of workstation to the domain
SkipDomainMembership=YES
NetworkLocation=Work
JoinDomain=<removed>
DomainAdmin=svc_mdtjoin
DomainAdminPassword=<removed>
MachineObjectOU=ou=XP Computers,DC=<removed>,DC=uk - aka OU1 above.

  • How to use lightroom with desktop PC and mobile with MacBook Pro ?hav

    At home I have a desktop PC with all my lr files stored on NAS drive I want to be able to access and edit on macbook when away from home.
    1 Is it possible or do I need a Mac pc or change laptop to windows based ?
    2 do I use remote access to NAS or use previews and sync catalogue ?
    3 can lr exist with both file formats at same time ?

    I use a similar setup, with a Windows desktop PC and a MacBook Pro. My photos are on an external drive connected to the Windows machine, and I sync the catalog and smart previews using Dropbox.

  • Need help using LR with a 2nd Computer/Laptop

    I just installed LR on to my laptop last night. I currently have all my photos saved to my desktop in e:\photos. I belived the sidecars are in that same folder, and the other stuff is in the default c:\docandsettings (or whatever it is).
    The laptop is on a wireless network and my desktop's e: drive is accessible.
    So last night I wanted to try lightroom on the laptop with the files I have on my desktop. Am I correct in that what I need to do is import files from current location so that I'll only have one version of the photos? If I make changes on the laptop, will the sidecar be changed so I'll see the change when I use the desktop? Or is there a different/better way to do this?
    The other thing I want to do is be able to teather my camera (Canon 30D) to the laptop and shoot that way. I was able to do it using Canon's DPP and EOS Utilities software where the photo is writen directly to the hard drive. But when I plug my camera in, Lightroom opens as well. Is there a way to shoot directly into Lightroom? Or shoot to the card so LR opens the file from the camera without having to do a separate import?

    Yes it will delete everything.
    I'm a little confused at what you are asking at the end.

  • Using lightroom on desktop PC and laptop computer

    When I'm out in the field, I take my laptop and download images to my laptop, triage photos, assign ratings and categories. When I get back home, I want to transfer this information to my main PC which has a giant, backed up harddrive. I also occaisionally want to take a subset of my photos from my main PC out to show someone via my laptop.
    Does lightroom address this scenario?
    No, I don't want to use the "unsupported" sync toy because I want to export portions of my database to my laptop, do some work on my laptop, then transfer the work from my laptop back to my desktop PC.
    From reading some other posts, sounds like this is not supported. How many other people need this functionality? Is there a web site where I can post a feature request?

    There is an earlier thread, don't remember which. Describing simple way.
    You store the Inages in the exact same folder tree structure on the laptop as on the home storage. you 'triage' on the laptop with auto export to XMP on (in Prefs). at home you move the folders to the storage place on the drive there using LR drag and drop.
    Then import them on the main machine from the storage space.
    Meanwhile you have all your images referenced on the lap top from the same storage space so that you can show and see them even when away. (Thay show red in the folder list when off line to the laptop.)
    The home computer will see all your work except collections, Virtual Copies and stacks.

  • Using iPhoto with Desktop/Screensaver

    It must be something simple, but I've Googled and searched the forum and can't figure it out. I see that apparently this newer version of iPhoto prevents easy access to the folders that contain the actual images. But how you do get the Desktop/Screensaver in Prefs to allow you to select from photos in your iPhoto library? At one point I thought it was importing them, but it spun and spun for a long time, so I canceled. I did access the Originals folder through Finder, created a folder and dragged a few photos to it. I was able to access that folder to select a Desktop pic, but isn't that just making copies and eating up drive space?
    Any advice?

    There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 and later*
    You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    (Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
    You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and later* ...
    Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
    To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
    This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
    If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    *If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
    For users of 10.6 and later:
    You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
    For Users of 10.4 and later:
    Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Using airplay with desktop pc

    I have configured my airport express to airplay itunes to my stereo.  it works fine on my windows laptop on my linksys wireless in home wifi network.  I get the icon to choose the airport express speakers and can remote control that librrary using my iphone 4, two family ipads and my ipod touch 2g.
    however, the library on my Windows 7 PC destop (wired NIC) on the same network cannot find the airport express nor can i remote control that library.  the airport utility on the pc can only see the airport express when it is connected to an ethernet cable.
    i am running this with the airport express plugged into an electrical outlet and only the audio jack plugged from the airport express to the stereo input.  nothing is plugged into the usb or ethernet ports of the airport express.

    No.  Had same issue on two win7 pcs.  Fixed by enabling multicast filtering on advanced wireless settings of linksys wrt610n router
    Thank you for reply.  I run a dr. Dre boom box with my airport express and added apple tv to take advantage of 7.1 av sound system. Steaming iTunes from pc to either or both over wifi.

  • Auto profile change using E70 with desktop cradle.

    When using my E70 with a desktop cradle (connected to a Mac) I'd like it to switch into another profile.
    I've tried setting this up under Tools->Settings->Enhancements etc. but to no avail.
    Is there a way to do this or does it require a 3rd party profile management app'? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction (hopefully to a freeware one)?
    Many thanks.

    this works to set value of spec based on more than one characteristic, but still receive an error if a user has chosen a value in SPECS...
    must be a way to accomplish this through table inferences?

  • How to use WiFi with desktop

    I will be staying with friends for a couple of weeks this summer. They have WiFi, and I am using an iMac (an Intel Apple) which has WiFi abilities, currently turned off. I also have an Airport Express. I'm hoping to be able to use my iMac to access the Internet while there. Any suggestions? I've never used the AirPort or WiFi before, other than with my Kindle.

    If they have WiFi, you don't need the Airport Express if all you want to do is access the Internet. On the iMac, make sure that the WiFi icon is in the Menu Bar at the top right up near the Time.  If you don't have it there, go to the Apple menu at the far left top on the MenuBar. Select System Preferences/Network/Then click on WiFi/Airport and check the box Show WiFi /Airport staus in menu bar. Now the WiFi/Airport icon should be in the Menubar.
    When you get to your friends house, go WiFi/Airport in the Menubar and select "Turn Airport On" In the next window look for your friends WiFi Network and select it. You may need to put in a password if your friend has the network password protected. Put in the password and you should be all set. Your iMac should remember the network.  Hope that helps.

    Are you referencing your Photoshop image files, or Photoshop application files?
    If the latter, cease and desist at once!
    Always install Photoshop from scratch, from the original media: CD/DVD or download.
    If the former, please provide details:
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
    Note that this is boilerplate text.
    If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
    such as your platform (Mac or Win),
    exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
    your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
    the type of file you were working on,
    machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
    what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
    if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
    if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
    someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
    a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • Use on windows7 desktop. will be traveling with laptop. How do I move my current emails and profile from desktop to laptop?

    I have thunderbird on the laptop but don't use alot. Because I will be using it primarily for the next few months, I want to move some of the existing messages and archived files on the desktop thunderbird to take with me on the laptop. Do I need to move profile as well as files? I tried to drag and drop to put on a flash drive but that wouldn't go. Any help is appreciated.

    I gather the best way is to copy the profile. I checked both Thunderbird and they were updated to be the same. I was able to copy and paste a backup copy of the profile to a flash drive. Now when I go to the laptop I am faced with the question about getting it loaded and where to put it. Also I should note that the laptop has 2 users myself and my wife. If I get this on the laptop will that stay on my user or will it wipe out my wife's email? Much to learn!!

  • Using a remote desktop connection with the Macbook pro.

    I use the remote desktop connection on the Macbook pro and am unable to exchange info between the mac and the remote connetion windows. For example, if I am writing an email from the remote connection and want to attach a document, photo etc. that I created on the Mac, it just doesn't work. It seems like the Mac and the desktop connection are completely seperated eventhough they are both on the screen in front of me. the systems I use for work are not Apple compatible and will not work on anything other than windows explorer and in my case the remote desk top connection. Any ideas!

    Try running in 'ClamShell' mode (MacBook Pro lid closed and using an external keyboard and mouse) with the Gateway connected and then run System Preferences/Displays, it should show then ...

  • Can i use my creative cloud membership on laptop and desktop? Or is one membership needed for each device?

    Can i use my creative cloud membership on laptop and desktop? Or is one membership needed for each device?

    Yes you can!

  • No Internet Access on laptop but access with desktop

    I have a WRT54G wireless router.  The desktop has a wireless adapter installed and I can hit the internet.
    I have been able to connect to the internet with the laptop until I updated drivers for the Bios.  After doing that I can no longer access the internet.
    laptop OS:  XP Home Edition
    Desktop OS: XP Home Edition
    With desktop I can log into the router web page, but can not do so with latop.  I can however ping successfully the router ip address 192.168.1.1 with the laptop.  When I run ipconfig/all on the laptop, the DHCP Server is set to 192.168.1.1, but the Default Gateway is not set, and the IP Address and subnet Mask are set.  Should the Default Gateway be set?
    I can access the network with the built in wireless adapter on the laptop which is a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN device.
    Thanks

    have u assigned any static ip address to the laptop....if so , ensure that u have entered the dns address as well...u can get the dns numbers off of the status page on the router ui.......
    also , make sure that the firewall , if any , is disabled ..
