Thanks very much. It's turned out to be a font problem. About 30 of the fonts in my account directory /users/me/library/fonts folder were corrupted. They were somehow being viewed as unix executable files instead of font suitcases. !??! No idea what happened there.
I used Pacifist to reload fonts from my OSX installation disc, but this didn't seem to help. Instead, I found other copies of most of the corrupted fonts in the microsoft office/office/fonts folder, and replaced the corrupted fonts in my home library w/ those.
I was alerted to the fact the the problem was fonts when I tried to open an Excel file; it came back with messages that these various fonts were corrupted and needed to be removed. Strangely, though the corrupted fonts were in my home directory font folder and not the MS Office font folder, Excel was tripping up - i.e., it wasn't using the fonts from the Office folder. Hmm.
Finally, there are still a few fonts that are corrupted, and whose source is a mystery to me. They didn't come from the OS installation disc and they don't come from Office; consequently, I can't fix them. They are: Geneva CE, Geneva CY, GrCourier and N Helvitica Narrow.
Does anyone know where these fonts come from?

Separator between the left and right pane.

The WebHelp generated has a separator (used for resizing)
that divides the left pane (TOC) from the right pane (main
content). This separator has a border and hence is displayed as a
thick gray raised line. I would like for the separator NOT to be a
border and thus it will show up as a thin gray line.
The way to do this is to specify frameborder = "0" in the
<frame> tag for the right pane. However, if I change this in
my Start page (after generation), this frameborder = "0" is just
not getting applied. Can someone tell me what I am missing?

I modified the .skn file to change the frameborder = "0" for
the instance of <frame> with cols. This did reduce the
separator, but not quite.
If you look at the Default skin, I want the thickness for the
separator between the left pane (TOC) from the right pane (main
content) to be the same as the separator between the search box and
the results below. Am I making sense?

Mail header and body of message don't match

I'm having a frustrating time with my mail. I have version 1.2.5. I have 3 accounts that download to it. 1) It is downloading the wrong messages into the wrong folders
2) A message will say it's from a specific person, with an subject, etc... sometimes it is a reply to my message. But the body of the message will be a legit message, but from a different person. They are all people I know.
So, it's screwing up somehow.
It's not spam.
I don't think it's a virus but I don't know.
I've been told by my computer guy that it sounds like a corrupted database. I have deleted it, and reverted to a backup from Monday. I then deleted everything in the in, sent and trash. But it is still happening.
It's also now not downloading the messages from one of the accounts at all.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated ---- can't get any work done!

I had the same problem yesterday and today. What I
did to solve this:
- Close Mail
- Go to your home folder -> Library -> Mail
- Choose the IMAP folder of the account that has
these problems and move (not copy) it to the Desktop
- Start Mail
- Your mail messages will be loaded again
While this will work, there's now a simpler solution. Control click on the mailbox giving you the problem. Select the 'Synchronize "<mailboxname>"' item from the menu. This will synchronize the message index with the messages and you should be good to go. It's a lot simple and faster than the solution above, and less prone to error.
The problem is that the message index is getting out of sync with the actual message cache. Mail.app keeps the headers in a separate file than the actual message, so that's why you may see a legitimate subject line and sender, but when you click on it you see an entirely different (also legitimate) message.
"Synchronize" gets the files back in sync.

How do I get rid of the white space between my header and my spry navigation bar?

I have been grappling with a problem for the past 2 days and cannot seem to work my way around it. I have been working on a page in dreamweaver cs4 that seems to have whitespace between the header and my spry menu bar ONLY in Firefox. Google Chrome and Safari show it correctly. Space between header and body section

Hi All,
I have a RTF template in that i am displaying the header and body section , i have more than one pages in my report so in the first page the gap between header section and the contains start after that is fine, but for the rest of the pages the gap between header and contaisn is more , can you please guide me how to decrease the space.
Ex:

RTF template design issue for header and body section

Hi All,
I have a RTF template having header and body sections.
in header section i have order number, customer number etc.
in body part i am displaying details for the respective order.
But the problem is in header part my query is returning multiple row , so my requirement is for each row i.e order, i need to display the details accordingly.
Ex: Header query returns order number : 1,2,3
in my page i need below way:
Order number :1
a,b,c
order number :2
c,d,e
order number :3
g,h,g
I tried to use loop in header section , but it is repeating only for header part not body part please help me on this.

Actually in my requirement the header level and line level invoice numbers are different, in header level i have different invoices and for each invoice i need to display some other invoices along with some data.
I have sent you the respective RTF file and Sample XML file to your mail, could you please help me on this, i am struggling whole day on this.
the link between the header and line section is header_id.

Communication between the computer and the disc drive failed

The disc can’t be burned because because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022). This computer has been out of the box for less than a month and this has been a growing problem.

My problem was FIXED at the apple store..... there was something wrong in the system preferences and the genius deleted something that recreated it's self. Surely enough we we're able to burn a 600 mb dmg of nothing onto a few test disks. For anyone having this issue...it's NOT The media, it's some configuration issue within the computer's preferences. I'm telling you all to take your machine to the nearest apple store and have them fix it, if your machine is still under warranty the fix is free. There was no hardware issue, so the optical drive was not replaced.

Separation of the physical and logical structures

I am very new to Oracle database administration. While reading Sam Alapati's book "Expert Oracle9i Database Administration," I came across the concept of the separation of an Oracle database’s physical storage structures from its logical storage structures. In particular, Sam states the following in his book:
“This logical defining of Oracle's database structure has another fundamental motive behind it. By organizing space into logical structures and assigning these logical entities to users of the database, Oracle databases achieve the logical separation of users (owners of the database objects, such as tables) of the database from the physical manifestations of the database in terms of data files and so forth.”
I am not quite convinced about the value this separation of the physical and logical really adds to the task of database administration. Considering the way DBASE worked, i.e. each table used to be stored as a separate file, what would be lost if Oracle’s implementation were similar and each table (i.e. file) were to be assigned to a particular user. I am not sure of the value added by storing the data from more than one table in more than one file, effectively resulting in a many-to-many relationship between tables and files. Please enlighten me. I would really appreciate it.

In general, separating the physical from the logical allows the physical structure to change without affecting the logical (in theory at least). Even a table is a logical structure. We think of rows and columns, but it isn't stored the way we think of it. When we do a select statement, we don't have to write code to read each block, extract the contents, etc.
With partitioned tables, it is sometimes a good idea to split up partitions in such a way to get a performance gain. Like placing the most recent (and most queried) month of data on the fastest storage device. If you stuffed everything in to one gigantic file, you would lose that ability.
If you want to store each table as a separate file, you can do that with Oracle. For each new table, create a new tablespace, and then create a new file for the tablespace. Then come back to this forum in a year and tell us how it's going.

Differential pricing between the US and UK/anywhere else

I'm just curious... can anyone throw any (rational) light on the price discrepancy between the US pricing and the prices for everyone else?
What are the actual differences between the UK and the US versions of CS4 that demand such a discrepancy? Since (for the UK at least) the language is the same, what constitutes a localised version that is worthy of these price differences for upgrades...
$599 CS3-CS4 against £515 ex VAT in the UK (equates to $945 give or take a few cents)
I know some smart response will be "you don't have to buy it", but as a professional, freelance designer I'd have to disagree with you... please just accept that otherwise we could go wildly off topic.
I don't object to paying for software, I just hate to feel taken advantage of because of where I live.

This probably isn't the right forum to get feedback, but, it's the closest I can find . . .
I was left on hold today for over 2.5 hours, waiting for a manager, before the call was dropped. NOT FUN!
Basically, it's an upgrade issue.
In July, I upgraded to CS 3.3 (with Adobe announcing that this was the latest and greatest upgrade). I forked out $600 -- of course, assuming since it was the latest and greatest, that it would remain the latest and greatest for a reasonable amount of time. OOPS! Wrong assumption! 2 months later they announce another "latest and greatest" with CS4.
Up until July, I avoided the upgrade because of the CS3/Leopard compatibility issues. Even with 3.3, I have to reboot (on average) a couple of times a day to re-stabilize my OS. Adobe products bog down the OS and grind away on the hard drive to the point where all applications begin suffering.
So, all-in-all, I purchased a "brand new release" 2 months ago for $600, and there's another "brand new release" announced today. And they want me to fork over another $440 for that one -- every sales and customer service rep saying: "There's nothing I can do."
Was on with customer service again for another 37 minutes while I was typing this. Guess what? That freaking call was dropped just this second.
That's 2 dropped calls over a half an hour, and another dropped call over 2.5 hours.
Frustrating.
Been using Adobe products since 1988, and this is the first time I am unhappy with how I've been treated.
How about the usual array of gadflies stay out of this one and allow people who have legitimate concerns about this sort of thing have some reasonable communication.

I think as soon as the developers discover CoreMotion, all of the apps will migrate to using that so fast it will cause your head to spin.
I think this will cause the obsolesces of more mobile hardware then anything prior to it. The whining and moaning on these forum is going to be so great.
