MDX Support for BPC on BW on HANA

Hi All,
I have the following queries on MDX support for BPC on BW on HANA -
1. What is the current state of Dimension Member formulas (or MDX) with BPC on HANA. Are they natively being evaluated within HANA?
2. Does BPC on HANA support the same MDX features and functionalities that BPC on any other database would ? Are there any limitations here ?
Please advise. Thanks.

Saurabh Diwakar,
Does note 1714013 gives insight to any of your questions?

  • VM support for BPC

    Hi folks,
I've been looking everywhere for some concrete guidelines, but haven't found what I needed - does anyone know whether SAP officially support BPC installs on a VM environment (whether for development or production)?
I would really like to find some official documentation that specifically mentions whether or not these scenarios are supported and/or recommended.
    Thanks very much!
    Jason

    Hi Jason,
You can find the answer to your question into SAP note 1098847.
    Hope it helps,

    Thanks.

HANA is a data source (which could contain non-SAP data)
For other Excel front-ends that may connect to "non-SAP" data look at Live Office or Power BI by Microsoft - see Excel and Power BI connectivity to SAP BusinessObjects Universes | Power BI

  • VMware installation for BPC 7.5NW

    Dear All,
Please let me know what are the prerequisites to install VMware for BPC7.5 NW.
how to get VMware software with license?
Also pls share installation guide for same.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Chavi

    Hello Chavi,
Differently from the information Sctott has, there are some notes explaining that VMWare is supported for BPC 7.5. It is just not a good idea to use it in production so I agree with Scott thant this should not be used in production. See below:
    - Note "1098847 - Virtual Machine Support for BPC" explains that virtualization for BPC is covered by Generic Support Statement for Virtualization (note 1492000 - General Support Statement for Virtual Environments).
    - Note 1492000 says that it is supported but if an issue cannot be resolved, SAP can request you migrate to a non-virtual environment. Please note that in this note you have some restrictions and other important information, so it is very important to read it carefully.
You might want to check notes "1409608 - Virtualization on Windows" and "1599679 - Supported application virtualization for BPC client" as well.
It is good to read all these notes and the first one also suggest Virtualization on Windows, but personally I think having your production environment virtualized can generate performance issues and you can be asked to install it in a dedicated physical machine.
    Hope it helps

  • BPC 7.5 SP4 Support for Windows 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2

The release notes for BPC 7.5M SP04 state that support has been added for both Windows 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2.
For SQL 2008 R2, there is nothing in the feature pack described as "SQL 2005 Backward Compatibility Components" - which was a required piece for  BPC 7/7.5 on SQL 2008. Is the SQL 2008 version still a requirement, or does BPC 7.5 now not need the Backward Compatibility components?
Also, the ReprotViewer executable that is packaged with BPC 7.5 is the one for SQL 2008- will that work when installing SQL 2008 R2?

    Please check the versions of:
    HANA server

    HANA client (on the PAS)
SAP Kernel (both the generic and HDB specific files)
The versions between them should be in sync.

  • What is it supported in BPC about SSIS pkg

I have some problems implementing SSIS dtsx for BPC.
A package with a sequenct container, or with a user variable to use to setting a property, or with a task to call another dtsx doesn't function!.
Does exist any technical documentation (not a user guide, please!) that describes what it is supported in BPC about SSIS dtsx?
    Many thanks.

    Craig,
You can do Partition in AS DB.
There was a bug in AS that didn't keep partititon information but it was fixed.
    Please try it.
Also you can find How to document in here.

  • Open Hub For BPC Cubes

    Hi Gurus,
I have an issue about the open hubs for BPC cubes. I have a need to take my transactional data from my BPC cube to a table. So  I want to create an open hub on my BPC planning cube.
But when i create the open hub on BPC cube, it doesn't read the package. So, data cannot be read. But the open hubs work on my BW cubes.
Is there anything i should do different for BPC cubes ? How can i make the open hub work?
    Thanks in advance..
    Fatih

    Hi Fatih,
Glad you got this working, but a word of warning: As far as I am aware, customer SAP BW development linked to objects in the BPC namespace is not supported. It may very well work, but BPC may also delete and recreate BW objects at any time and without warning, which can leave you in a situation in your production environment that is very difficult to recover from without manual modification of the production BW environment.
The recommended way to export data from BPC NW into a flat table is to use the BPC data manager Export package. You may want to try this option and see if you can meet your requirements this way.

  • Do we need to Upgrade existing BI 7.0 to EHP1 for BPC 7.0 NW.

Can BPC 7.0 NW be installed as App Server with EHP1 and then use our existing BI 7.0 as the database.  Or will our BI system need to be upgraded to EHP1?

    Tania,
There are two basic configurations of BPC NW with regard to BW at customers:
    1. Install BPC on the existing/common Netweaver BW platform (with Ehp1 and at least SP03/05 - depending on version) - this is most common at customers that are either quite aggressive with their application of BW support packages and enhancement packs, or customers who do not have an existing BW installation and are primarily installing BW to support BPC version for Netweaver.
    2. Support two BW instances: One for the datawarehouse and one for BPC version for Netweaver - this is the most common architecture at customers who already have a mature BW installation and who wish to manage BW support pack and enhancement pack application without being constrained by BPC's requirements.
Another reason we see this type of architecture (#2) is because of incompatibilities between add-ons - for example SEM requires the FINBASIS add-on that is incompatible with Ehp1, so you can't run SEM-BPS/BCS on the same system as BPC version for Netweaver. I hear that technically you can do it by overriding the Ehp1 installer but it is not supported and should not be attempted. The release of Netweaver Ehp2 complicates the matter even further, since it is unclear if BPC is compatible with Ehp2.
As far as the question of whether it is too much overhead, that is a question that is going to need to be answered on a customer-by-customer basis. It depends on your budget, the maturity of your datawarehouse, your basis and BW management practices, and the maturity of your support organization, among other things.
If you had a separate BW instance for BPC, then you would still need to load data into that instance directly in order to load to BPC. You would probably want to think of your BW instance for BPC as a datamart separate from you main BW datawarehouse.
    Hope that helps,
    Ethan

  • System sizing for BPC 7.0M MS version

    Hi, Sirs
In the Scalability Guidelines (Section 2.3) of the Master guide for BPC 7.0M
follwing 3 elements are described in the matrix as key factors for system sizing.
    For example, Medium BPC install
    1. Concurrent users = More than 75 concurrent users
    2. Cube size < 1.5GB
    3. Largest Fact table < 50000 rows
We have plan to install BPC 7.0M SP05 and followings are our estimation for system sizing.
    1. Concurrent users = 76 concurrent users
    2. Cube size = 800MB
    3. Largest Fact table  =144000 rows
'Largest Fact table' exceeds the value of Medium BPC install,
but we'd like to use servers which is described for  Medium BPC install.
Would you please inform me the impact of the excess on system sizing?
Thank you for your support in advance.
    Best Regards
    Hiro

It will be any problem if the sizing exceed the recommendation. Actually is a good practice because it allows you to increase the number of users without any changes into landscape later on.
From the performances point of view the system will have the some performances if you will use the sizing recommended by SAP.
On the other hand if you will not follow the sizing guide and you will use smaller server than recommended then it is possible to have bad performances into system.
I hope this it will help.

  • Training for BPC

    Hello Fellows,
I am a sales consultant positioning BPC at many places, furthermore, I am also planning to get training for BPC. I am pretty confused at the moment with the following queries in mind:
Is BPC a technical (programming type) side of SAP?
Does one have to have a strong technical background?
To what extent does BPC differ from BOBJ?
What would be a more reliable side of choice, BPC or BOBJ?
I would be heartily grateful if someone could come out of the shadow and shed some light on the aforementioned queries. Furthermore, it would be really helpful if someone could share few brochures about BPC.

    Hi Nauman,
BPC it's a sw normally used for consolidation, planning, budgeting and cost allocation.
First of all there are 2 different versions, MS based on MS SQL server (i.e. also stored procedures, dtsx packages etc.) and NW integrated in Netweaver platform (connected with BW) without stor. proc. dtsx, but with badi functions.
Is BPC a technical (programming type) side of SAP?
yes you have funtions, components, etc to connect your excel report or input schedules with a database and also logic script, MDX, badi, etc.
Does one have to have a strong technical background?
if you want to build a new project then yes, if you want only create or change some reports then no.
To what extent does BPC differ from BOBJ?
sorry I don't know BO but as I know this is just useful for reports probably powerful then bpc so if you want you can integrate it when you create some special reports.
What would be a more reliable side of choice, BPC or BOBJ?
probably if you work with BPC could be better to study it but it's more difficult then BOBJ, you need more time to know it.
I would be heartily grateful if someone could come out of the shadow and shed some light on the aforementioned queries. Furthermore, it would be really helpful if someone could share few brochures about BPC.
first of all if you decide to study BPC you can see the modules you need for a SAP certification

  • Is Office XP no longer supported in BPC 7 MS Version?

    Hi experts,
Does anybody know if Office XP (Office 2002) is still supported in BPC7 (we're on Sp3)? The Installation guide does not mention it for the Admin and Client prerequisites but it does appear in section 7 (requirements for TS and Citrix).
On the other hand we've found that there are a few SAP Notes in which Office XP is mentioned so we're not 100% sure whether there is an omission in the documentation or either a typo.
    Thanks,
    Ibai Madariaga

    Ibai,
    Thank you for finding this.
As I know, Office XP was not tested fully for BPC 7M but for making sure. I will check it soon and will post it.
    Thank you.

  • Office support in BPC 7.5MS

    Hello all,
Can anyone tell me which office versions will be supported in BPC 7.5MS
Especially information about Office 2003\2007 are both interesting for me.
I cannot find anything about this in the releasenote on ssm..
    Thanks,
    Alwin Berkhout

    Hi Alwin,
You will get this information in the installation guide of BPC 7.5 available in marketplace. Based on that guide, The following list describes the minimum software requirements:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0, 8.0, or later
    Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007
.NET Framework 2.0 (Install the .NET Framework Hotfixes by going to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899511)
XML 4.0 SP2 (included with the Internet Explorer software)
    Pentium IV (1 GHZ CPU)
    512 MB RAM
100 MB of free hard disk space in the My Documents folder
20 MB of free hard disk space for the installed Administration files
    Xceedzip.dll (version 6.5)
    Hope this helps.

  • Support for 32-bit

I have a number of 32-bit files produced by the Merge to HDR routine in PS CS2 and CS3.
I store the 32-bit files as the key creative stage in HDR processing is in the reduction to 16-bit (Image> Mode> 16 bpc in PS) and so it's handy to keep the 32-bit files to make alternate 16-bit versions. Currently it's not possible to import 32-bit files into the LR Library, so I'm stuck with using Bridge if I want to be able to see these files. I'm not asking for the ability to perform the 16-bit reduction in LR, just to be able to locate them in the Library so I can use LR as the starting point for all aspects of my workflow. The Library is so much better than Bridge in so many ways...
Can we have support for 32-bit in LR1.1, please?

I second this motion. I'd really like Lightroom to support the Bridge-style Photoshop workflows (e.g. Photomerge, Merge to HDR) fully, including representation of all produced assets including 32-bit files. In a more perfect world, power-users could even create custom workflow scripts (e.g. in Javascript ala PS CS3 scripting) in Lightroom.
As a Photoshop user, I don't have a pressing need for full 32-bit support in Lightroom itself. However, I find Lightroom highly desirable as a photographer's workflow management solution and front-end to the more powerful tools in Photoshop.
