Meaning of the "dot" or "bullet" in list views?

I've noticed that sometimes a dot or bullet (•) pops up to the left of items on the Site Organizer pane. And in the Entries section of a blog page there is a "dot column" (the leftmost) where the dots may also appear. These dots are synchronized: whenever there's a dot on an entry, the dot appears also on the Site Organizer pane.
These dots seem to dissapear whenever iWeb "checks" or connects with .Mac, but I haven't figured out their true meaning —new comments, maybe?
Does anyone know what do they stand for? Thanks.

Okay, I found the answer myself through a thorough read of the "Getting Started" guide. On page 17 it reads:
Tip: When comments are added to your site, a blue dot appears in the iWeb site organizer, next to the blog page (if you are connected to the Internet).
So my first hunch was right: the dots serve as "new comment" flags.

    My file names have disappeared in grid view. Thery have been replaced with a dark bar along the bottom of the previews. If I toggle using the command u it hide the bar but I still can't see the file name. In list view all the file names are OK.

    The dark bar is caused by the option "Show metadata below image".
    Check the settings for the metadata overlays in Grid view (basic and expanded) by clicking the little "badge" icon below the Browser and selecting "Edit". Is the filename still enabled in the list? And in a high enough position to have precedence for other metadata tags, if the space does not suffice to show all selected tags?

  • How do I remove the grouping headings in my list view web part?

    I don't have access to SharePoint Designer and so far, that is all I can find that people are saying to use.  I understand and know how to edit the HTML in SharePoint, just don't know what code to put in and where exactly to put it so that the Document
    Library List View web part is grouped how I want, but doesn't actually show the group titles.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

    Hi,
    I understand that you want to hide list view group headers, based on your description, I can suggest as follow:
    Add this code to a Content Editor Web Part (CEWP) in the list view. Adding a CEWP in a SharePoint 2010 list view will unfortunately remove the list view selector.
    <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
    _spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("HideHeaders");
    function HideHeaders()
    var elements = getElementsByClassName(document, "td", "ms-gb");
    var elem;
    for(var i=0;i<elements.length;i++)
    elem = elements[i];
    elem.childNodes[3].style.display = "none";
    elem.removeChild(elem.childNodes[4]);
    elements = getElementsByClassName(document, "td", "ms-gb2");
    for(var i=0;i<elements.length;i++)
    elem = elements[i];
    elem.childNodes[3].style.display = "none";
    elem.removeChild(elem.childNodes[4]);
    elements = getElementsByClassName(document, "tr", "ms-viewheadertr");
    for(var i=0;i<elements.length;i++)
    elem = elements[i];

  • How to keep information in the comment column while in list view?

    While in list view, as you know, you can change the visible columns like comments for example. Then you can get info for each file and type in some text in the comments box and then when you 'enter' it will then appear in the comment line of the file. However for me, I find that if I input text in the comments box it will show in the column view but when I exist finder or restart to mac the info is gone. What the trick to get it to stay there?

    HI,
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash. Relaunch the Finder.
    See if that makes a difference.

  • What is the meaning of the dotted circle next to a song on a playlist?

    Why is there a dotted circle next to certain songs on a playlist that reflect on my iPhone on iTunes and these same songs after syncing are not reflecting on my iPhone?

    What is the meaning of this -
    Object[] x = {new String[]{"a","b"}};
    I have a function which takes Object[] as a argument.
    And I have data structure like this -
    Name = Zoolander
    Name = Hansel
    Name = Mugatu
    I am not interested in the Name part. This has to be
    converted to - Object[] x = {new String[]{"a","b"}}
    It works if I hard code the values like this -
    Object[] x = {new
    String[]{"Zoolander","Hansel","Mugatu"};
    Thanks in advanceI don't think you need the outer set of braces:String[] x = new String[]{"x","y","z"};will work, and does exactly what you expect it to do.

  • How do I jump to the top/bottom of a List view?

    Hello,
    I am a recent Windows convert.  I have done my best to search forums and website to understand keystrokes, but so far have been unable to find the answer to this question.  Acually, I am fairly certain I must have seen the answer, but did not recognize it as such.
    By way of example (and the place where this concern is most acute for me) is in iTunes, when looking at a list of songs.   I have thousands of songs, and paging through them (found that keystroke combination! :-) is getting tiring.   If sitting on a single song in the list, I want to be able to jump to either the start or the end of the list of songs.   How do I accomplish this?   (short of paging a zillion times)
    And, in case it makes a difference (I am not familair with all Mac keyboards) I am using the keyboard on a MacBook Pro  (so I may not have all the keys found on a full sized Mac desktop keyboard for example).
    Thanks,
    -Neil

    <sheepishly> Yes
    I sat here trying all kinds of key combinations, but the moment I read your answer I realized 2 things:
    That I had never tried that combination and
    It was the most logical since I already was using fn-up arrow and fn-down arrow to page up and down.
    I kept thinking it was still the up and down arrows, but with a different modifier key.  Narrow thinking on my part.
    Thank you!

  • List View in the event browser stopped working.

    Recently I was using Final Cut pro X when it crashed, when I re-opened the application I  found that List View in my event browser no longer displayed any content, filmstrip view appears to work but I had gotten quite fond of list view.
    Is there a way to get it running again? I've already tried Restarting, shutting down and booting up again, taking out my external hard disk before opening FCPX then putting it back in again..

    We have the same FCP X issue. Filmstrip view works, switch to List view and it shows nothing. We even tried closing in List view, then reopening, it reopens in Filmstrip. We have rebooted as well, with no effect. Anyone find a work around?

  • Adding "Filter Criteria" to the XSLT List View Web Part impact on "Export to Excel" functionality within Document Library

    Hi there,
    XSLT List View displaying all the list items within the Document Library. In order to implement the Search functionality within Document library out of box "Text Filter" web part is configured as explained below. The solution is similar to
    the one suggested at
    http://www.wonderlaura.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=77
    "Text Filter" Web Part added to the page.
    Filter Criteria (i.e., XSLT List View columns) added to the XSLT List View where the filter parameters take the input from the "Text Filter" Web Part .
      3. Both Web Parts (XSLT List View and the Text Filter) are connected.
    When the search criteria is entered into the "Text Filter" Web Part, it is passed to the relevant Columns of the XSLT List View and the documents (List Items) that match the search criteria are shown within XSLT List View.
    Search functionality working as expected.
    Query: Selecting the "Export to Excel" icon from the ribbon generates the excel spread sheet with no data except Column Titles from the Document library. In the investigation it is
    found that adding the 'Filter Criteria' on XSLT List View is causing this bug. When the Filter Criteria is removed, then "Export to Excel" functionality is working as expected.
    But it is mandatory to add "Filter Criteria" to implement the search functionality with in the document library.
    Help: Help/input appreciated on the work around to get the "Export to Excel" functionality work when the "Filter Criteria"
    exist on the XSLT List View.
    Regards,

    Once again thanks very much for your help Scott. very much appreciated.
    In the investigation it is found that removing the 'Filter Criteria' on XSLT List View makes the "Export to Excel" functionality work. But the 'Filter Criteria' is mandatory to get the 'Document Search' functionality.
    I think that due to technical limitations it should be concluded that 'only custom development can make all work, no code solutions using the SharePoint Designer can meet all the requirements.
    If you can think of any alternative solution that could help in resolving the current issue or fix the issue without any custom implementation please inform. Otherwise this issue would be marked as resolved with your suggested response.

  • Hide "more" button in a list view, only works for first item in the list

    I have the following code in a list view that outputs several dozen items in a web app.  The code only works for the first item, how can I make it loop through and execute the test for each item in the list view?  The {tag_hide more button} is a checkmark field that yields a numeric 1" if checked otherwise yields a numeric "0".
    <div id="more-option">
            <p class="right"><a href="{tag_itemurl_nolink}" class="btn btn-small btn-very-subtle">More &rarr;</a></p>
          </div>
          <div class="more-selection" style="display: none;">{tag_hide more button}</div>
          <script>
    if ($(".more-selection").text() == "1") {
        $("#more-option").hide();
    </script>

    What's the URL for the site where you are using this?  Offhand, it looks like it should work with your first example so you are either placing the script before those elements are loaded or you might try wrapping your current javascript inside the:
    $(document).ready(function() {
    --- your existing javascript here
    This make sure the code runs once all the html is loaded on the page.  Without seeing a URL and debugging with the js console in Chrome I can't give you a solid answer.
    But, I do know that you can probably do this with a lot less markup.  Once we figure out what the actual problem is I have a better solution mocked up for you on jsfiddle.
    When looking at my HTML code on jsfiddle, please realize I setup some dummy HTML and removed your tags and added actual values which would be output by your tags.  The main thing I did was remove the whole div.more-selection and instead, added a "data-is-selected" attribute on your div.more-option element.  Then, in my javascript for each div.my-option element on the page, we loop through them, find the value of that data attribute and hide that div if it's less than 1 (or 0).
    Here's the fiddle for you to look at:  http://jsfiddle.net/thetrickster/Mfmdu/
    You'll see in the end result that only two divs show up, both of those divs have data-is-selected="1".
    You can try pasting the javascript code near the closing </body> tag on your page and make sure to wrap my js inside a <script> tag, obviously.  My way is neater on the markup side.  If you can't get it to work it's likely a jquery conflict issue.  My version is using the $(document).ready() method to make sure all the code is loaded before it runs.
    Best,
    Chris

  • Changing the ImageData attribute of a list viewnode..

    Hi,
    I am trying to change the Image Data attribute of a list view node after
    a user clicks on it. But it just doesnot get reflected in the listview.
    UpdateFieldFromData()/UpdateWindow() donot do the job either.
    I could ofcourse clone the node, change it's ImageData, remove the old
    node, insert the new one and then do a SetViewNodes(), but that is really
    not the solution!!
    Has anyone been in this situation before??
    Thanks in advance.

    I discovered what was wrong with what I did.
    You have to an UpdateFieldFromData() on the DisplayNode object of the
    listview to get refreshed. Doing an UpdateWindow/UpdatefieldFromData on
    the ListView widget doesnot work!!
    Thanks.

    You should probably let Tech Support know and file a bug.

  • Todo tab: Routes displayed when selecting the List View

    Hi,
    I have a question about the routes that appear on the workspace's  "To do" list view, and how to perform validations when they are  clicked.
    I've created a process that starts with a form being created by a  user. Then, it's validated by a sequence of other users. Each one sees a  different set of routes. On one of the steps of the process, one of the  routes requires the user to input a text.
    The condition is checked on the click  event of the AWS_SUBMIT button, where I've also put the text request. If the user is using the  card view on the "To do" tab and clicks on the item, the form opens and,  when the user submits it, all works as expected. However, if he has the  list view and clicks once on the item, the route names appear on the  bottom right of the workspace, and he's able to select them. As the form  hasn't been opened, there's no control on the selected route, and the  user is never asked to input the text. On the next step of the process,  which depends on this text, the process gets stalled.
    Is it possible to hide these routes on the workspace, disable the  list view, or stop the submit if it hasn't been started without opening  the form? I know you can customize the workspace, would this allow me  to remove the route buttons?
    The version we are using is LiveCycle ES 8.2.1.3.
    Thank you

    Is there any way to hide the submit button(green check mark) that appears on the task card when a user saves a form in their draft folder.
    Users are bypassing the form validation by submitting a form this way.  For instance, a user will fill out the form with values that do not pass validation.  They will save the form in their drafts folder.  The user will then close the form and navigate to their draft folder.  Without opening the form again, they will click the green check box submit button and a form with invalid data will be submitted to the process.
    This is LC 8.2.1.3.

  • Freezing the List View Menu

    Hi Team,
    I have asked to make the SP list and Library views menu freeze.
    But I did not find anything that can be done/doable moreover, I read few articles regarding "How to freeze the List or Library views menu" the answer is it was done by some java scrip/jquery.
    However, many were saying it just works 1(one) time later it gets break.
    Hence are there any different ways of achieving this task? Kindly advise.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Vinay

    Hi Vinay,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to freeze the column header of a list view.
    A suggestion is that you can follow Jing’s demo in this similar thread for a try to see if this is what you really want:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/bab16d46-f145-4bd3-a1da-9db461fc6a8d/freeze-header-row-and-first-columns-in-a-list?forum=sharepointcustomizationprevious

  • Two all day events in list view?

    Is it possible to have two all day events over the same time period in list view? When I try to add a second, the first is then only shown as three dots on each day (the stripe disappears).
    Thanks

    Same problem here; if I EVER find out the solution I will post it here.

  • List view problem

    I use List view. The left column contains icons for Applications, drives, etc., and I can add folders and files by dragging them to that column. But I can't *delete* them, either by dragging them out or hitting Delete or Opt-Delete. What do I do?

    Thanks, but I should have specified further. Neither Delete, Opt-Delete, Ctrl-Delete, CMD-delete (by which I assume you mean the Apple key + delete) nor any of these options with Shift works. What I'm trying to do is delete items from the left-hand column in List view (in fact, I now see that it's in all views) where you can drag folders, files,  individual apps, etc., to launch them directly instead of having to dig down in folders. It's baffling.

  • HELP needed! - burning in list view

    This issue is driving me crazy!
    I burn many Data CDs & DVDs backing up files.
    The preferred format is all to be in LIST VIEW.
    Prior to burning, I ensure all enclosing folders & files are in list view.
    After burning, the top level is in list view, but all enclosed folders have reverted to ICON VIEW.
    This means higgly-piggly non alphabetic files or folders without dates.
    I am using OSX 10.4.9. on a G4/MDD and a 15" powerbook
    Have tried Toast 6,7, & 8. and Disk Utility.
    Also tried locking folder before burning.
    PLEASE can someone, HELP!

    Do yourself a favor (don't you hate that phrase?) and buy Roxio Toast.
    Among other things, it allows you to customize the view of burned disks.
